Five players not at practice today

By Steve Corkran
Wednesday, December 26th, 2012 at 12:08 pm in Oakland Raiders.

Quarterback Carson Palmer, right guard Mike Brisiel, cornerback Phillip Adams, defensive tackle Richard Seymour and strong safety Tyvon Branch aren’t practicing today.
Palmer definitely won’t play Sunday against the San Diego Chargers in the regular-season finale. Seymour haas missed the past seven games, and it’s likely that he won’t play this Sunday, either.
As for Brisiel (concussion), Adams (groin) and Branch (ankle(, they stand a decent chance of making it back in time for the Chargers game.
Terrelle Pryor and Matt Leinart are taking reps with the first-team offense today, with coach Dennis Allen saying he will see how both perform in practice this week before deciding which will start in place of Palmer.
Palmer suffered broken ribs and a bruised lung against the Carolina Panthers, and he already has been ruled out.

I see KK had some left over eggnog…

The world is full of QBs that had success in college and couldn’t make it in the pros. Ohio State probably has more than anyone else. They win 10-12 games virtually every year, regardless of who’s under center.

I’ll say it again; you simply cannot state with any credibility that Pryor has made zero progress under DeFillippo. In fact, both Allen and Knapp have said publicly that he HAS gotten better.

I just wish that people in here would remember that Pryor was an acknowleged project when he was drafted, and that miracle overnight development, particularly at his position, just doesn’t happen. I’d love for the kid to put it together and hope he does, but I also saw him play in college and in my humble opinion he has a lot of work to do to get to NFL starter level.
    ——-

I know he’s a project, and i don’t expect him to be RGIII or even Cam at this point. But coaches saying he’s improved, then contradicting themselves by saying he’s “Not even Close” is another thing.

All i’m saying is they’re not even giving him a chance with a guy like DeFilippo and Knapp. Neither have had any history of success, they’re resumes support that.

Knapp has never lasted longer than 3 years as OC, his offenses production and rank drop each year.

DeFIlippo has not lasted more than 2 years at the NFL or Collegiate level. But maybe it’s just coincidence that he’s coached the worst QB’s in NFL history at every stop.

  • The_Judge37

I don’t want to come off as completely supporting players and blaming coaches. But rather that bad decisions have been made at both ends. Bad Drafts, bad FA’s and Bad coaching hires are all to blame for this embarrassment of a season.

  • Dan78

Lincoln Kennedy had some harsh words regarding Pryor… Said he is not the answer, and that he thinks Reggie will find us a QB in this draft, wow…

    ——-

Why does everyone want us to build in the mid rounds. I’ve heard, “Let’s get our QB, RT, OG, and CB in the mid rounds”

  • Charlie

    John

My position is that the Raider situation is unlike any that has occurred in the history of the NFL.

We got a rookie GM and HC because of it.

It is obviously speculation on my part that a seasoned GM or coach would not have done much better GIVEN OUR REALITY.
    We obviously will never know.

We do know that we had to offer 4 year deals to guys that had never done it before to get them to take on what is obviously more than a one year restoration project.

That all being said, I am pointing out that this a very serious, complex issue that is far bigger than if Knapp stays or goes and will take 3-5 to get us to the playoffs.

    ********************************************************

Not a contradiction at all. He can improve and still not be close to being considered starter material.

Cam Newton, RGIII, Russell Wilson, et al, all showed the ability to throw the ball with accuracy and consistency in college, and have demonstrated the same ability in the pros. Regardless of athletic ability, they would not be having the success they are having were they not able to execute in the passing game. Look at Jake Locker; everyone raved about his athleticism and arm strength coming out of UW. However, if you watched him play there you would have seen major accuracy issues and questionable decision making in almost every game.

Pryor has work to do, and maybe a lot. I suppose that could be disappointing if you want him to be your starter right now, but it is what it is.

  • The_Judge37

I want Pryor to play just because I already know what Lienart has to offer. And it would make the last game of the season at least fun to watch, which is all i ask at this point.

Personally i’d rather they just make the switch, and get some production out of him as a Pass Catcher.

  • Priesttj12

Sure Crabtree is a pure rec’r but he has been as much a disappointment to the Niners as has DHB been here. They thought they had a top notch #1 in Crabtree and he’s not been even close to that. He’s slow and catches underneath passes and you can get that in a mid-rndr so to be honest neither player has been worth what either team paid for.

You can be a fan of either or a hater of both but not a whole lot of difference between the two in terms of career so far.

As far as Pryor is concerned people need to understand what the interest means. No One is saying He’s ready in the first place but those anti-Pryor fans just don’t get it. Of course he’s not ready he hasn’t played more than 10 downs in the NFL. So stop telling us he’s NOT READY. We know that!!

All we’re saying is we’d like to see them GET HIM READY how many times need we state that for those with plugged ears get the message. Fans want to see what the GM wants to see whether they have a player they can develope.

It’s as if you guys either can’t read or don’t comprehend the concept. Players need to be developed and in a 4-11 season why not see what the young talent has to offer. If you don’t like that dmmit don’t watch but the GM has spoken and so have the fans.

Another thing the kid has improved based on the OC’s own assesment NOT OURS. He has said he works very hard and has improved what about that doesn’t meet your approval and why would they be considering starting him inthe face of Palmers injury if he wasn’t someone they thought had a real shot. Why wouldn’t they just start Leinart and be done with it?

For cryin’ out loud……..some of you need to get a freakin’ clue about this. Pryor is and entriguing prospect an dif that bothers you. …………tough!

He’s a true Raider in that he’s the only QB we have that was drafted by the late owner. Yet too many of you want him in the basement instead of where he can be seen. The GM never mentioned he wants to see Leinart once did he? He wants to see Pryor so why do you think that is? Because he sucks or he has talent……..period

  • The_Judge37

    ——-

I want him to be the starter over Matt “Lame Duck” Leinart, that’s all.

My main point was not that Pryor should be a starter by now, it’s that his position Coach is a complete failure at every job he’s held.

Allen: “We got a chance to see what Matt could do” and maybe it’s time to see what Pryor can do.

    Vic Tafur‏@VicTafur

Leinart’s poor decision-making Sunday may have forced the issue. The edge he had was experience and comfort in offense, and didn’t show it

That and Mark Davis prolly tried to slap DA.. still wondering why not just give pryor all the snaps?

Maybe he does learn something from Game film.

Everytime you watch a replay of Leinart’s throws, the Duck Hunt Dog pops at the bottom of the screen and laughs at you

Maybe our little crew cut coaches are having some other problems with Pryor?

  • Priesttj12

ET, Jake Locker and T Pryor are worlds apart IMO Locker had one of the worse senior seasons in recent memory for a1st rnd pick. How they picked that guy is a freakin mystery.

Pryor was selected in the 3rd rnd yet the GM wants to see what he has in the kid. You saying he can’t throw accurately has no bearing on what the GM sees dailey. There is an obvious reason he has said and mandated his being dressed and playing. The HC on the other hand and OC don’t know how to use the kid which is blatantly obvious. It’s probably the sole reason we haven’t seen much of him to this point.

  • Priesttj12

Yet the Pryor haters would prefer to watch that crap from Leinart than Pryor even get a snap……….go figure!

I think that demand came from Mark Davis…

  • RaidersAllday_LtsGeTit

If u dont think Mark Davis wants to see Pryor play u are mistaking. Even in that presser after the saints game he said he liked palmer but had his ideas on who should be starting at qb.

U think he was talking bout lienart? LOL no.. he was talking about his dads last draft pick.

  • Priesttj12

Reggie commenst were I need to see Pryor play to see what he can do, how much he plays is up to the coach. he’s giving the coach respect so it doesn’t look like he’s interferring in the coaching process. However Reggie as I have said many times is a Pryor fan IMO. I think he would like to have a lot more film on Pryor for which to make some org. decisions. The HC is preventing that process and Reggie has had enough………..period

  • http://profootballtalk.com Raideraholic (AKAHairyBush)

I do not believe Dennis Allen has any intention on starting Pryor this week. What he says to the media is purely lip service to appease the critics. He is just making it seem like he is really looking at the QB situation, when in reality he knows leinart will be under center this sunday.

    unfortunetley.

  • http://www.Raiders.com KoolKell

Well does Pryor have a neck tattoo?

Because yeah, that could be a deal breaker with DA.

  • Priesttj12

I think the demand came from BOTH Mark Davis is not going to allow a talent like Pryor to be wasted. Reggie also has to make sound org. decisions he cannot do that without something on film.

Both want to see him IMHO!

  • LA to TheBay

I’ll have to have a talk with ol #72 about that. I’ll make him see.

Pryor will give you a couple of throws where you’re like WTF (he11, so does Carson) but several on a rope in a tight window and he has an arm, so he can pass the deep ball too. Saw a ton of Pryor at OSU. If used properly, what a weapon. Would take a smart, creative coach.

  • RaidersAllday_LtsGeTit

I would get rid of KNapp/ DA way before Pryor

  • Priesttj12

It’s not that his job depends on anything of the such, but I would think if he refuses the GM’s request it would not go over very well………what do you think?

  • Dan78

Bingo… so we all agree coaching is what is holding this team back.

  • The_Judge37

I have no doubt Matt Leinart will be named starter. He’s a FA next year and they want to see if he’s a cheap replacement in case they want to move on from CP.

Also because of the track record of incompetence from this Coaching staff, It should be no surprise they would like to see one more game with Matt, just in case they missed something in his previous 7 year career.

  • No Mas Diamante

Makes sense to start Pryor and get an evaluation of his skils: He is already signed for next year… Leinart only had a one year deal and is not going to be here next season.

WHich is why they want to see what Leinart has to offer. Could do that by evaluating his previous QB gigs, but then that wouldn’t be this Coaching staff’s style.

  • Priesttj12

The contraversy about Pryor playing is so strang to me it’s as if he’s playing for another team they hate.

If he was a corner or a HB or a WR would there be this much debate? Why is he so contraversial because fans want to see the guy? WHY??

Do you guys understand that if this kid is successful it HELPS the Raiders??????? Does that even compute with some of you?

It’s like you would rather see an Lechler than Pryor, if Lechler was starting would there be this much debate and anger?………I just don’t get it.

The seaosn is OVER play everyone they want as far as I’m concerned it’s essentially as preseason game.

As far as personnel decisions go, I give the regime a passing grade based on the McClain situation. Dude might look a beast on a highlight reel of plays that resulted in a ruptured spleen, but we all know that he was a TERRIBLE middle LB.
The name Omar Gaither might not sound sexy to any of you, but the bottom line is, NO TEAM has hit a home run straight up the gut on us since he replaced Slolando.

Yes, crazy for anyone to expect a player to EARN a spot on a team instead of just being given it in blind faith.

If Pryor outplays Leinert this week practicing with the ones, we will see him play more.

    As it should be.

That said, its obvious by the 22 yard pickup last Sunday, that Pryor should have been worked in the gameplan all season. 4-5 plays a game.

    I’ve said this since pre-season.

Nobody with a brain demanded Pryor START over CP though.
