Pro Bowl selections announced today

The league will announce the Pro Bowl selections today at 4 p.m. PST on NFL Network. This might be one of those rare seasons when the Raiders get shutout.
Kicker Sebastian Janikowski won the fan portion of the voting for the Pro Bowl, which counts for one-third of the total. The players and coaches also get one-third of the vote.
Janikowski figures to have the best chance of being selected from the Raiders. He has converted 31 of 34 field-goal attempts this season, with his misses coming from 51, 61 and 64 yards.
Even that isn’t a sure thing, given the Browns Phil Dawson is 28 of 29 and the Ravens Justin Tucker 29 of 31 on field-goal attempts. Tucker also plays for a team that is 10-5 and headed to the playoffs.
Janikowski was selected to the Pro Bowl last season for the first time in his NFL career. He made 31 of 35 field-goal attempts in 2011, including an NFL record-tying 63-yarder against the Broncos in the regular-season opener.

DA will also announce his starter today?

    Question for the posters here:

If you had to identify ONE act that the Raids can take to immediately improve the outlook for 2013, what would that be ?

Mine would be to terminate Gregg Krapp.

    TERMINATE WITH EXTREME PREJUDICE.

    # 1 wish for me: Fire Knapp on Dec 31st.

I am not going to renew my tickets until late in the offseason.

    Easy question. Terminate Knapp.

The Pro Bowl?… How exciting ….yawn..!

  • DKnight007

Werner can play both as a 5 tech DE in the 3-4 and as a 4-3 RDE. Werner is strong and athletic, but a bit raw, but is versatile.

The true test of D Moores value is if he can play as a stand up 3-4 pass rush OLB. He might be too light at 250 to play as a full time RDE in the 4-3.

We know the great intangibles and leadership Te’o has to offer. Worrying about his speed is silly. He is the complete opposite of McClain. He can do do it all, including rush the passer.

Can Star make enough plays and get to the QB? He can play well versus the run, but can he put pressure on the QB? That would be nice. He can be the two gapper the Raiders have needed for awhile now.

He can play in the 4-3 and of course as the NT in the 3-4. Getting him would allow the Raiders to finally show more 3-4 looks.

D Jordan will probably be more of a 3-4 stand up OLB…..he is too light to be a full time RDE, unless he gains some muscle weight. He is athletic and long and reminds me of JPP a bit.

Luke Kuechly is smaller and faster than Te’o.
    Luke is 240 and Te’o is 260.

    ^^^^^^^^^
    Te’o is 250…not 260.

Te’o is just as good as Kuechly.

D Moore, Te’o, Werner, D Jordan or Star should be the Raiders pick this year.
    $$$$$$$$$$$$$$

The sites I visited have him listed at 255 or 260, and not one site had him listed at 250.

    ^^^^^^^^
Maybe 255 by the time the Combine rolls around. He won’t be 260 though.

    many differences from last year.

    1) barnes hurt
    2) carlisle slipping
    3) wiz injury/position change
    4) brisiel struggled

Coaching staff is the biggest differance from last year. They suck big money.

    ^^^^^^^^
Yep. DA and his coaches suck overall.

Like I said if DA stays, then Knapp and Hoffman need to go and maybe even Tarver demoted to LB coach if they can get Ed Donatell to be the DC.

I would gladly take Norv as the OC ahead of crappy Knappy.

They may have caused no Raider to be a Pro Bowler.

I’ve just noticed the Pryor-Leinart poll.
89% of the fans say Pryor.
If Junior plays Leinart and sucks, then tells us Pryor is not ready to be a starter in the NFL, that’ll be a major slap in the face to all.

He already has, one of stories on the ticker this morning was Dennis Allen saying, Pyor has not “grasped” enough of the playbook to be a starter.

Seems like the only people that want Leinart to start are the coaches, Leinart and Leinart’s mom…

  • The_Judge37

If Pryor is every bit of the hard worker they say he is, then it’s on the coaching staff for having an entire offseason, preseason, and regular season practices for not having him “Close to ready” as DA puts it.

  • mcfadden20.

Not starting Pryor might be the best thing for him , he will be going into 3rd season (contract year) still confident in his abilities instead of being crushed because he was fed to wolves, e will work his butt off even more and maybe just maybe he will turn out to be a fine QB or may yet turn out to be a nice WR

  • Charlie

For the hire Chucky and terminate Knapp fans I offer the following:

I have agreed from the beginning that getting an experienced HC would have been much better than starting off with a new inexperienced regime. I would have preferred continuity with Hue or Cable but that is over and it is time to move on.

We got our staff based upon good recommendations from around the league for young, intelligent, energetic, process oriented teachers to help build a winning team.
DA; Significant promotion and 4 year deal
    Tarver; Significant promotion
    Knapp; Lateral but returns home
THOSE GUYS CAME HERE BECAUSE IT WAS GOOD FOR THEM EITHER FOR PERSONAL OR PROFESSIONAL REASONS.

    News quote:
“Still, the simple truth is that Knapp was not the Raiders’ first choice. He was hired after the Raiders interviewed a couple other candidates, and even that was long after pretty much every other team in the league had their coaching staff already set.
There remains a distinct possibility that Knapp will return in 2013. Maybe for the sake of continuity, or because it’s not as simple as most fans think to “upgrade” at a coaching position.”

Can you name another organization in sports where multiple candidates for the head job (let alone a coordiantor job) have told their prospective employer to get lost?
Off the top for RECENT Raider “opportunities” I can think of Petrino, Sarkisian, Arians, Whisenhunt and Payton. Just flat out blew us off. These guys never had been an HC in the NFL and they told us to forget it.
DA got a 4 year deal because he could have simply bided his time with Denver, possibly win a second Super Bowl with Peyton then have been an even hotter commodity for a Job in Philly or Chicago. Clubs that have nowhere near the issues we have now. Think DA did not have that cross his mind when he required a 4 year deal???
A guy like Gruden or Del Rio would have been great but they can afford to be much more selective because they have already done the job and know the challenges we face. Why would any experienced HC want to come here???
    1. MASSIVE CAP ISSUES
    2. NO first round pick since 2010 and missing our second round pick in 2012 and 2013.
    3. Grossly over rated and over aged players especially on the line of scrimmage.
    4. Without the title of GM this experienced HC only has limited input into cap issues and player selection. (As Parcells used to say when courted for other HC jobs having already been one, “If you want me to make dinner, you need to let me buy the groceries”).
Further, Gruden and Del Rio both fell victim to the fact that AS GOOD AS THEY ARE; THEY WERE UNABLE TO WIN WITHOUT TALENT!!!!! Gruden especially knew the problems that plagued the Raiders and he could make about as much money broadcasting with a much higher quality of life.

    ********************************************************

Lol. Who was on the short list that they “caused” to miss the Pro Bowl?

And please don’t say McFadden. He misses half the season every year no matter who the head coach is. Seymour is “injured” the whole second half and doesn’t even play. Lechler and Jano are the only other Raiders that are even considered.

Are you saying it will be the coaching staff’s fault if one of those two doesn’t make it, or is there someone else on the roster that would have if not for Allen and company? I’m looking at the roster and I sure don’t see what you appear to be seeing.

  • RAIDERMAN99

Might be interesting if there was something like the Anti-Pro-Bowl.

Instead of sending the best players to a beautiful locale like Hawaii, you force the worst chumps to play in a bad weather sewer of a stadium.

Raids would have at least one player selected to THAT squad.

Ro-no-go Greenbeanie would be a captain.

Krapp would definitely be a coach.

In fact, he could coach both teams.

And there could be a ‘lifetime achievement’ spot on the roster, reserved for only the most historically pathetic crapbag of all-time.

JaMoron would be hard to dethrone there.

    Poor JaMarcus.

  • DutchRaider77

The only thing I could possibly see starting Leinart over Pryor is that “they believe” Pryor is so bad that his play would inhibit the evaluation of all the other young guys they plan to play.

That’s false , their 1st draft pick is still riding the pine while guys like Barnes /smith keep getting starts, Palmer is much as Al D guy as well, the line is still the same , they don’t use Crawford over shaugnessy , linebackers are pretty much what we have , CB’s Adams ands Ross are showing huge promise , DVd is not doing anything , practice squad could have been a nice boost or chekwa

You guys don’t understand , what DA is doing is good for Pryor , if Pryor was given a starting job right now, he would just e satisfied and stop working on his craft, that’s why Da is slowly increasing his reps so that he keep working to get some more playing time, you guys are idiots, n why ruin Pryor with Knapp as his play caller? Might as well save his confidence for a new play caller

Matt Leinart had a great game yesterday ! Too bad the receivers suck and run bad routes. THat INT he threw totally was not his fault . He is the only bright spot on the offense. Too bad Knapp sucks at play calling , or else Leinart would have had a couple TD’s and 300 yrds !

    Thanks Mcfadden 20

Have been simply trying to point out to those that will listen that this a major multifaceted mess taht will take 3-5 years to resolve.

Though I believe the heart of a team is the Oline, I believe the quickest path back to repecatbility with the Raiders is focus on the Dline with our top picks this year.

The Oline will need to wait till 2014 and we have to hope Bergstrom will fill in for Carlisle.

Reggie’s quote below gives a good indication that is what we will do. His first pick (albeit a 3rd rounder) supports a line focus as well.

Two things _ I want to win up front, and that’s on both sides of the ball, with the big boys, but also I want to somehow affect the quarterback position and that’s by with good coverage, and corners and a free safety that’s going to pick ‘em off, or with somebody hitting them upside the head. Pass rush. A good push up the middle and somebody he’s going to be scared of. We’re going try and get, guys, we’re going to try and upgrade at a lot of positions, depth-wise, and get some impact players. That’s going to be on me.”
