Raiders shut out in Pro Bowl selections

The NFL announced the Pro Bowl selections Wednesday afternoon, and the Raiders didn’t have any players on the AFC team.
Kicker Sebastian Janikowski and fullback Marcel Reece were picked as alternates, the Raiders said. This is the first year since 2003 that the Raiders didn’t have at least one player selected.
Last year, Janikowski, punter Shane Lechler, long-snapper Jon Condo and defensive tackle Richard Seymour represented the Raiders in the Pro Bowl.
It seemed logical that Janikowski had the best chance of making the Pro Bowl among the Raiders players. He converted 31 of 34 field-goal attempts through the first 15 games, with his misses coming from 51, 61 and 64 yards.
Also, Janikowski won the fan portion of the voting, which accounts for one-third of the process. Players and coaches also get one-third of the vote.
Last season, Janikowski converted 31 of 35 field-goal attempts, including a league record-tying 63-yarder against the Denver Broncos in the regular-season opener.
The Cleveland Browns Phil Dawson was selected as the kicker for the AFC. He has made 28 of 29 field-goal attempts so far this season. His lone miss came against the Raiders in Oakland.
Coincidentally, Dawson signd with the Raiders as an undrafted free agent in 1998. He signed with the Browns in 1999 and developed into one of the league’s best kickers. Janikowski joined the Raiders in 2000 as a first-round draft pick.
Lechler’s streak of consecutive Pro Bowls made ended at five.

i will give you this…Al gave these guys big compensation because he thought we were close…but now that reggie is running things we are farther then ever…so if they do dump them, its an admittance of failure…
    ——-

The 4-11 season is a pretty good admittance of failure, might as well dump them.

Tommy Kelly is a cancer, he needs to be cut.

I look at McK kind of the same way as I do Pryor. There simply isn’t enough information yet to make any sound judgements. Drafting always has been and always will be a crap shoot… and he was in cap hell.

I do like Streater, Wheeler, and Burris… but he completely whiffed with Briesel. Lets see how he does this off-season.

His first order of business is forcing Allen to get a real top notch SB-quality OC. His choices are limited because you can’t bring in coaches under contract in moves laterally… so I am thinking a young OC from college that has HCing aspirations. Someone hoping to make a name for himself. Knapp was just a has-been retread that was desperate for one last chance.

For some reason coaches like that never work out with the Raiders.

Fire Knapp. Trade our number three pick down, and pick up a solid FA number one WR, and veteran blue chip FS.

    Thats my McKenzie wish list.

the problem with our dl is the ends never require a double team..thats how bad they are

  • Al_is_theraiders

501…disagree but if he goes ok…dont think we will get a better player unless ge drafts one with a high pick.

you’re on of my favorite posters. Think you’re one of the more logical guys on here. Funny too.

Disagree with you about Streater. I think that guy will be big time. He needs to iron out some things but I see Rod as our go-to guy.

  • The_Judge37

One thing i will give Reggie is that we’ve got real NFL style LB’s. Instead of Al’s stand up Defensive Ends.

  • Al_is_theraiders

another thing i dont understand…why is everyone so high on burriss? the guy misses more tackles than he makes….granted at least he is in position to try and make the tackle…

  • Al_is_theraiders

    we had that guy….thomas howard.

I’m not saying he wont be good, I hope he is. But i’m saying is he’s not exactly lighting the league on fire, and we’ve seen this already from guys like Ford, Murphy, etc.. and ever new WR we get that we WANT to fall in love with.

For a UDFA, then yes, Reggie hit big.

  • LA to TheBay

understood, but he didnt have a negative effect on the colts, didnt dhb have an issue too? i dont think satele would have changed our season significently. the point im trying to make is reggie really hurt us with his bad decision on brisel.
    ———

Satele was a FA, DHB under contract. DHB had a DWI, Satele was flippin out at a mall.

Agree with you though. Massive whiff on Briesel by Reggie. But in his defense (as a contrarian by nature), Briesel graded out pretty well and Houston fans did not want to let hm go.

Rod seems more natural to me than Lou Murphy and more of protypical #1 — certainly more so than Ford. I also think Murph’s attitute factored into his trade.

Burris is another guy that will be nice and got invaluable experience. he’s gotta learn to wrap up though. And quit blowing his pass D assignments.

He plays at least a half this Sunday, IMO. I’m guessing he will make some spectacular plays along with some horrific mistakes. The thing that interests me the most is if Knapp will be smart enough to design an offense that will showcase his running ability.

My guess is he won’t. He will pretend he is another CP, and run the same insipid plays CP had to.

  • Al_is_theraiders

our starting wrs should be dhb, moore and ford….the others are backups.

  • Charlie

Unfortunately we paid way too much for average talent especially on the lines.

I do think that an immediate impact DT in the draft (would not allow us to trade down) is essential. He will require double teams helping, Kelly, Bryant and Bilikudi by default.

We need to get lucky with our third rounder which needs to be a DE. If that guy can have an immediate PASS RUSH imapact we could have a decent front. We also have to get lucky that we can get a year out of Carter at 33.

The fact is that the standard of excellence in our division is Peyton.

The best defense with him is keep him off the field.
The next best is really harrass him in the pocket.

I have no immediate solution for Barnes at RT and I am HOPING Bergstrom can replace Carlisle.

I am skeptical of any meaningful FA help.

  • LA to TheBay

I disagree. Streater has a big body, uses it well to shield ball form defenders, can make the catch at the highest point, can jump like a dang panther, and is pretty hungry.

    Makes plays when targeted.

He’s certainly not there yet. Just putting my scouting cap on I suppose. Looking at his ‘ceiling.’

    =============

Indeed, except the Boots and roll-outs work well for Pryor. He seems to consistently shed the first defender, and he’s always good for a good juke to make somebody fall down. I think those serve him better than designed runs IMO

  • Gdog

Chaz was fast and also a great downfield blocker. Streater is the worst blocker I have ever seen at WR… and it makes me wonder if they even work on it in practice.

The attention to details like that is something this offense is sorely missing in comparison to Hue’s club, IMO.

The TE’s and WR’s run blocking were night and day difference.

Its why we are nearly last in the NFL in running.

  • Al_is_theraiders

For sure man. Once he gets more comfortable, we should see him braking off routes, and figuring out the soft spots. Like you said, he’s not there yet but, he does show that he’s got potential to rise.

One thing I can say about old Kevin Boss……Underutilized? YES…But that boy could block. He’d crash the DE into the tackle and open a huge lane. He Sprung DMAC for that big run against the Jets last year.

Streater is 10th in catches among rookie WRs. He has 30+ catches and 4 TDs. Not bad for an URFA

In a pass happy offense full of rookie WR’s and incompetent coaches, it’s expected. DHB’s teams had an identity that the WR’s bought into.

Almost all started out in the middle and cut through a hole left which was caused by second level blocking.

The really long runs had the WRs taking out the CBs and safeties.

I’d bet a gazillion dollars Knapp hasn’t worked on this in practice.

    From PFT:
“The Bucs haven’t been the same team since they nearly beat the Falcons in Tampa…”

Odd parallels; we haven’t been the same team since we nearly beat the Bucs, and some people would say we played our best game against the Falcons. Perhaps there’s a chained curse of some kind?

My personal low point for the season was losing to the Browns. I know they played everyone tough this season, but we were never even in the game!

just cant understand what reggie had done to earn anyone’s confidence. yes he deserves a draft, yes he came into a difficult position, but his moves have mostly been poor. i hope it was a rookie gm thing, but time will tell.2012 the year of the excuse 2013 no excuses..

    “Rookie GM thing”?

Here’s what the other “Rookie GM’s” did in their first yr. THIS yr.:

    -Ryan Grigson Indy: 10-5

    -Phil Emery Chi. : 9-6

    -Rick Spielman Minn.: 9-6

-Brandon Beane Carolina: 5-4 (took over for fired gm marty hurney)

-Les Snead St. Louis 7-7-1 (taking over 2-14 team)

    -Reggie McKenzie Oak. 4-11
