Raiders shut out in Pro Bowl selections

By Steve Corkran
Wednesday, December 26th, 2012 at 4:13 pm in Oakland Raiders.

The NFL announced the Pro Bowl selections Wednesday afternoon, and the Raiders didn’t have any players on the AFC team.
Kicker Sebastian Janikowski and fullback Marcel Reece were picked as alternates, the Raiders said. This is the first year since 2003 that the Raiders didn’t have at least one player selected.
Last year, Janikowski, punter Shane Lechler, long-snapper Jon Condo and defensive tackle Richard Seymour represented the Raiders in the Pro Bowl.
It seemed logical that Janikowski had the best chance of making the Pro Bowl among the Raiders players. He converted 31 of 34 field-goal attempts through the first 15 games, with his misses coming from 51, 61 and 64 yards.
Also, Janikowski won the fan portion of the voting, which accounts for one-third of the process. Players and coaches also get one-third of the vote.
Last season, Janikowski converted 31 of 35 field-goal attempts, including a league record-tying 63-yarder against the Denver Broncos in the regular-season opener.
The Cleveland Browns Phil Dawson was selected as the kicker for the AFC. He has made 28 of 29 field-goal attempts so far this season. His lone miss came against the Raiders in Oakland.
Coincidentally, Dawson signd with the Raiders as an undrafted free agent in 1998. He signed with the Browns in 1999 and developed into one of the league’s best kickers. Janikowski joined the Raiders in 2000 as a first-round draft pick.
Lechler’s streak of consecutive Pro Bowls made ended at five.

Why in the F would Jennings or Bowe want to play in this schitt scheme? 3 yd out, screen, 4 yd hitch, repeat… this will be the offense next year even if Knapp is fired. DA will vanilla the hell out of any offense because it fits his milk toast vision of a football team. What a disgrace this guy is to a once proud franchise.

    +++++++++=

    Post of the day.

  • Gdog

Is it possible that Knapp spent so much time teaching the ZBS to his linemen, that he forgot to teach anyone what to do if the ZBS actually worked?

You know, gawd forbid if a RB got past the first level?

  • Thec

Mumbles and the joker will stick with a similir systm, even if they run knapp, which i doubt.

  • The_Judge37

It’s not too fair to expect much from late round guys like Bilukidi and Crawford. But at least they’re being shown patience and being developed unlike guys like Barksdale and Bruce Campbell.

  • Thec

Knapp should have spent time letting A. Saunders run the offense.

napp scheme is schit, and so is he…F in 2 faced liar.

Yeah lets wait another 3 years until the org figurws it…

    F that….Mumbles correct it.

Everyone of our Linemen with the exception of Wiz, has some experience with the ZBS. It’s just bad coaching all around

    551,

Thanks. I’m just showing actual statistics.

I know some of these excuses are valid, i’m just getting sick of hearing them.

“We can’t do this cuz of that, or that cuz of this” and no team has ever had the difficulites Reggie had in the history of sports, etc. etc. etc.

  • tonedeezy

    both AFC TEs are injured.

    Brandon Myers?
I think all Oakland O players should get a little asterisk during voting that says “these stats came in spite of playing for Greg Knapp.”

    Hwnrdr, whats good brother….

I took a hiatus from this blog.

1000% naturally and organically pizzed off at the org.

We have a bunch of comic book characters running the shop.
    Reg = Mumbles
    DA = The Joker
    Knapp = 2 face

  • Whoknows

Reggie came into this thing trying to undue everything Al ever did. That’s why he hired a quote-unquote “defensive” minded head coach.

  • Thec

    fuk reggie mumbles…He is a svhitty gm…

    Mr. Davis 10000% > mumbles

Math wizards in here thinking EVERY team is supposed to improve their record every year.

Disregard roster talent, FA lost, lack of draft picks, Manning showing up next door, brutal schedule…

  • tonedeezy

everyone knocking on DA…this team had a ton of problems.

DA was the ONLY coach who was able to address the discipline issues and the defensive struggles. he did both.
one could argue that he did both by telling Slolando to kick rocks.
remember, neither Reggie nor DA picked Slolando. he was inherited, and he was managed properly imho.

Hue didn’t care about Slolando, because he knew he could blame all of the defensive problems on Chucky B…even though a head coach is supposed to be responsible for BOTH sides of the football…which is one of many reasons why he did not deserve to stick around.

i think we can all agree that Knapp needs to be gone by Monday morning though.

  • Thec

DA knows schit about the offense and yet he trust the evals of Knapp????

Who would trise that slimey 2 faced liar with anything?

I can find 50 Semi’s on this blog that could do a better job than nap. f him and DA

Well Hue didn’t pick Rolando either. We still have plenty of Dicipline issues that show up. But part of solving that problem was Al, who let player do what ever they wanted.

Depending on if we win this week, it’ll be that we didn’t regress anymore. If we lose, then 5-11 will be improvement enough for one more year

    DJ

Does it matter that those GM’s had multiple and high first round picks and Pro Bowl rosters?

They didn’t take over teams that had blown EVERY 1st round pick for 7 straight seasons. Kinda matters Urlacher vs Rolando, Luck vs DHB.

  • Whoknows

Reall Art Shell? Lol. Im laughing because he might have been a better choice of gm. Wow

Right, and I think DA and Reggie deserve credit for changing that.
I would’ve liked to have seen some productivity on offense and special teams as well, but at least the culture is changing, and I think that was the biggest hole we were in….no disrespect to Coach Davis.

  • alex7

    Al

That zone D has given us our best defensive month since 2002.

    Love it.

No more having to pay man specialists like Nnamdi 10 mill a year to still have terrible D.

  • The_Judge37

I really want to believe in Reggie, but mostly because i really can’t think of a better replacement. So i’d like to see what he can do with player scouting, even though he’s off to a terrible start. His coaches however havn’t done anything to warrant patience, and anyone would be an improvement over them.

  • Al_is_theraiders

first year of ten and then….followed by nine and whine….

  • DJ Johnny

Here’s what the other “Rookie GM’s” did in their first yr. THIS yr.:

    -Ryan Grigson Indy:2-14 to 10-5

-Phil Emery Chi. :8-8 to 9-6

    -Rick Spielman Minn.:3-13 to 9-6

-Brandon Beane Carolina:6-10 and 1-5 to 5-4 (took over for fired gm marty hurney)

-Les Snead St. Louis 7-7-1 (taking over 2-14 team)

    -Reggie McKenzie Oak.8-8 to 4-11

I realize when Spielman took over the 3-13 Vikings that he did not have ANY issues to deal with such as talent etc. They were just a powder keg waiting for Spielman to enter the building and magically went from 3-13 to 9-6.

Ryan Grigson at INDY got “Lucky” with Luck and that turned a 2-14 team into a 10-5 club, and Les Snead at St. Louis had the perfect situation fall into his lap when Jeff Fisher begged him to come coach the team to turn around their 2-14 squad.

None of these guys had any issues to deal with whatsoever, but when Reggie inherited this 8-8 “diaster” he was the GM who was truly up against it.

Worst situation in the history of organized sports. I mean, to take over an org. that was 8-8 for two consecutive seasons……and to have to deal with a salary cap situation? He must be the first GM in history to have to let a few players go and have to be creative in replacing them. I know it’s his job and all but my goodness…this ‘unmitigated diaster’ never before seen by any sports organization…EVER was the worst thing ever to happen to a 1st yr. GM.

    10 and then…

For you guys that watch Notre dame play this year…is it only because of their D Line that Te’o has looked good? I mean why was he a finalist for the Heisman? Just asking…
But yes, we need to protect the QB, whoever that may be next year, and be able to run block.
Knapp, sorry, will have to be replaced, or none of that will matter!
On D, if not Te’o, get a good pass rusher in here because that went out the door this year!
    ***************

no, in fact the opposite, as strange as that may sound. i’ve watched him play every game for 4 years. he is a MAJOR part of why they are not only the best defense notre dame has ever had, but how they got that way. his leadership can not be overstated. he is a great run stopper, with quick reactions, aggressiveness, instincts. he worked hard on becoming a better pass defnder and has 7 picks this season, some of which were fantastic diving catches. he is the type of dude who elevates everyone’s play thru his leadership.
