Raiders shut out in Pro Bowl selections

The NFL announced the Pro Bowl selections Wednesday afternoon, and the Raiders didn’t have any players on the AFC team.
Kicker Sebastian Janikowski and fullback Marcel Reece were picked as alternates, the Raiders said. This is the first year since 2003 that the Raiders didn’t have at least one player selected.
Last year, Janikowski, punter Shane Lechler, long-snapper Jon Condo and defensive tackle Richard Seymour represented the Raiders in the Pro Bowl.
It seemed logical that Janikowski had the best chance of making the Pro Bowl among the Raiders players. He converted 31 of 34 field-goal attempts through the first 15 games, with his misses coming from 51, 61 and 64 yards.
Also, Janikowski won the fan portion of the voting, which accounts for one-third of the process. Players and coaches also get one-third of the vote.
Last season, Janikowski converted 31 of 35 field-goal attempts, including a league record-tying 63-yarder against the Denver Broncos in the regular-season opener.
The Cleveland Browns Phil Dawson was selected as the kicker for the AFC. He has made 28 of 29 field-goal attempts so far this season. His lone miss came against the Raiders in Oakland.
Coincidentally, Dawson signd with the Raiders as an undrafted free agent in 1998. He signed with the Browns in 1999 and developed into one of the league’s best kickers. Janikowski joined the Raiders in 2000 as a first-round draft pick.
Lechler’s streak of consecutive Pro Bowls made ended at five.

I’m just able to count blown 1st round draft picks and zero pro bowl talent + manning and NFC south = crummy season.

    Said so since August.

Browns didn’t blow last few 1st round picks and now have a better roster than us.

    You didn’t know this?

Joe Thomas, Trent Richardson, Josh Gordon
    ————

Are you serious? Why do you think the Browns are where they are still? Of course they’ve blown Draft picks, that’s what they do. Last year you could just as easily match those 3 with DMC, Moore, Wiz. Not this year because DA and Co. not just wrecked em, damm near killed em.

Atlanta is the only elite team in the NFC south. After that they’re all just as Mediocre as we were last season, only difference is that we regressed.

Notice how no one can refute such a simple unemotional rational truth:

the problem has been exactly the same since 2003:

    lack of quarterback talent,
    lack of roster talent.

Thank Al for that. Once gm Bruce Allen left…

DA and Tarver’s defense is looking dammm good.

Just like Al and Cable’s shhyyttyy team needed a decent OC, all next year’s team needs is a Krapp replacement.

For you guys that watch Notre dame play this year…is it only because of their D Line that Te’o has looked good? I mean why was he a finalist for the Heisman? Just asking…
But yes, we need to protect the QB, whoever that may be next year, and be able to run block.
Knapp, sorry, will have to be replaced, or none of that will matter!
On D, if not Te’o, get a good pass rusher in here because that went out the door this year!
    ***************

no, in fact the opposite, as strange as that may sound. i’ve watched him play every game for 4 years. he is a MAJOR part of why they are not only the best defense notre dame has ever had, but how they got that way. his leadership can not be overstated. he is a great run stopper, with quick reactions, aggressiveness, instincts. he worked hard on becoming a better pass defnder and has 7 picks this season, some of which were fantastic diving catches. he is the type of dude who elevates everyone’s play thru his leadership.

Thanks! Like I said, maybe I am biased on this but I want Te’o is S&B next year!

Forget outlawing guns……Just raise the price of ammo.

I remember one comedian said, “you won’t have any random killings then. If ammo costs more than the guns, a person would have to be 1000% percent sure that they really want a person dead. Otherwise it would just be too expensive to kill someone with a gun…”

It was a joke obviously, but it seems to actually have some merit.

If Palmer didnt get hurt we would have had a chance to win the game. Of course if it came down to the fourth down play and Palmer tried to force a throw in instead of tossing it out of bounds like Leinart did and it resulted in an int, somebody would come in here saying its Palmers int that lost the game.

  • tonedeezy

some of palmer’s INTs were a direct result of fatigue. i think he threw 54 passes in one game…maybe the browns game?…and that game ended because of an INT.

It took 5-6 games for our coaches to see what the issue was. Again, their talent evaluation is completely suspect and completely lacking.

It has plagued us for years now. After Tarver and KNapp are fired the first money they need to spend is a top notch talent evaluater and make sure our Draft Picks and Free Agents are worth the money.
