Seymour, Branch, Brisiel not at practice

The Raiders are 72 hours or so away from their regular-season finale against the San Diego Chargers. As each day passes, it becomes more and more apparent that defensive tackle Richard Seymour, right guard Mike Brisiel and strong safety Tyvon Branch won’t be able to play, at least at full strength.
All three missed practice today, which makes it likely that Seymour will miss an eighth straight game, Brisiel will be replaced by rookie Tony Bergstrom and Branch might give way to Mike Mitchell rather than risk further injury to his sore ankle.
Branch has played the past two games on the sore ankle, though he wasn’t able to finish the game against the Carolina Panthers last Sunday.

– Quarterback Carson Palmer turned 33 today and defensive tackle Tommy Kelly hit 32.
Palmer won’t play Sunday as a result of the fractured ribs and bruised lung he suffered against the Panthers. He was spotted driving away from the team facility as practice started.
Coach Dennis Allen said Palmer also won’t accompany the team to San Diego because of the danger inherent in flying with a bruised lung.

– Quarterbacks Terrelle Pryor and Matt Leinart are splitting reps at practice in light of Palmer’s absence. It remains uncertain which player will start Sunday.
Allen said Pryor and Leinart split the reps evenly at practice Wednesday, though Pryor made it sound as if Leinart received the majority of the snaps.
“Matt started with the first team for a good bit, and I was getting like the last two or three snaps,” Pryor said. “Not much but more than I was. I’m happy about it. It’s an opportunity and I’m looking forward to it.”
Leinart last started a game Nov. 27, 2011, when he was with the Houston Texans. He suffered a broken collarbone in that game and missed the remainder of the season.
Pryor, of course, has not started a game during his two NFL seasons. He has appeared in three games, with six snaps altogether.

I’m not sure if you are suggesting he thumbed his nose at Al or Reggie, and i’m not certain that he was ever interviewed for the gig or even contacted about it.

I have been to alot of games in 30+ years, had some great seats and seen some great hits. That was with out a doubt the most violent smack I ever encountered. That dude didnt even know what street he was on.

Goldson is Mike Mitchell playing with an overall high talent unit. If those two swapped places, we’d all be talking about signing that Mitchell guy from the whiners that makes all those big hits, and wondering how we can get rid of this Goldson dude that can’t cover or wrap up on his tackles

    ********************

If that’s how you rate a player then Tatum was a Mike Mitchell as well. He was surrounded by argubly the best Raider Defense ever.

    =====

Tatum had 37 career ints. For an intimdator, he could actually cover and make plays on the ball when he felt like it.

By the way, my bad. Was confusing Goldson with Whitmer. Whitmer == Mitchell on a very good defense. For proof look at his 5 year Buffalo career before the Whiners, when he was a high first round pick that got a ton of tackles playing on a bad defense. He got no love. Now he’s on a very good defense where he needs to make way fewer tackles and yet he’s in the pro bowl.

I don’t understand why right after DA announced publicly that we “had no pass rushers” they declined to put a claim in on Jason Babin. He only had 18 sacks last yr. and more this yr. than ANY of our guys.

He would’ve cost 1.3 mill. for the rest of the yr. and given us the opportunity to sign longer term if we wanted to. He’s 33. Reggie turned it down and even mentioned in his state of the Raiders presser that we didn’t need him.

Of course Reggie is waiting for that 22 yr. old kid who has 20 sacks a yr. AND will come cheap.

It takes MINOR statistical understanding to know that means you’re GOING TO REGRESS next year especially without 1st and 2nd round picks and losing FA to cap cuts.

It takes minor understanding that this was the 9th ranked O in the league last year.Changed the system, look at us now.Feild goals are the only thing produced.Same players mind you, different coaches.Easy stuff.

Yep. How can someone say having an unknown 1st rounder last year and the 2nd rounder this year would have actually made a difference this past year?

The 2nd rounder is this year, not last years pick!

    - Wiz regressed big time with the move to center.
    – Veldheer regressed some
    – Briesel suddenly looks lost.. why in the hell did we bring HIM in?

So lets just put it this way… every single NFL player of any significance regressed on offense with the exception of CP, Reese, and Myers (and Myers STILL cannot run block to save his life.)

Turning the keys over on offense to a abject idiot had its price.

This can be fixed quickly though. Fire Knapp and the o-line coach and bring in hot hungry SB-quality replacements.

    =====

Did the line overall really regress or did DMac? Again, stats tell at least part of the story.

DMac had 197 rushes this season with an amazing 3.3 average.

The combination of Goodson, Reece and Stewart — wait for it:
118 carries for over 4.9 yards average.

That’s a big enough sample of both DMac and non-DMac to draw some real conclusions from. With less DMac and more of the others, who knows how the season could have been changed by having more effective running game.

Either way, most here are judging the effectiveness of the line by the running game success. And the facts show that the running game was just fine with RBs in there that actually were on the same page with the system they were blocking in. So who really regressed here?
    ————————————————-
When McFadden is in the game, teams focus on stopping him WAY more than they do if another RB is in. There is absolutely no denying that. I think its WAY more likely for an offensive line as a unit, who is being taught a different scheme, by bad coaches who cant implement well in Pollack and Knapp, along with players like Cooper Carlisle and Wiz playing out of position, to be accused of regression over 1 RB, who many believed was #2 in the league behind Peterson before the season started.

If people around here want to convince themselves that Mike Goodson is as good or a better player than DMac, cool. Whatever. I disagree 200%. Like Ive said a million times, Im sure Bill Belichick would have no problem knowing how to use DMac.

Knapp , Pollack, our line, and McFadden are easy for teams to game plan against. If all of you are so convinced McFadden regressed, we’ll see what happens when he goes elsewhere, and plays for competent coaches and game planners.

Stop the We Miss Hue whine. Hue is gone, and should stay gone. Anyone who says otherwise didn’t pay attention last year.

Hue took over Cable’s 8-8 team. Yes, Hue finished at 8-8 but only because of a monumental collapse at the end of the year, that should not have happened.

-Raiders started season 7-4, only to lose 4 of the last 5 games. Just one win in there would have put us in the playoffs. That is on the coaches. FAIL. Bye Hue.

-Hue said he was going to build a bully. He couldn’t build a box with lego’s if you spotted him 3 sides. Under Hue in charge, the Raiders committed 163 penalties. AN NFL RECORD. For 1,358 yds. ANOTHER NFL RECORD. Not only did Hue not instill discipline, the team got worse. FAIL. Bye Hue.

-Raiders, under Hue, gave up 31 TD passes. A FRANCHISE WORST RECORD. FAIL. Bye Hue.

-Raiders, under Hue, gave up 5.1 yds per carry, on defense. A FRANCHISE WORST RECORD. FAIL. Bye Hue.

-Raiders, under Hue, gave up 4,262 yds passing. A FRANCHISE WORST RECORD. FAIL. Bye Hue.

-Raiders, under Hue, gave up 6,201 total yards. A FRANCHISE WORST RECORD. FAIL. Bye Hue.

-Raiders, under Hue, gave up 433 pts. the 3RD WORST IN FRANCHISE HISTORY. FAIL. Bye Hue.

-Raiders, under Hue, was one of only 4 TEAMS, IN THE HISTORY OF THE NFL, TO GIVE UP AT LEAST 30 TD PASSES, AND AT LEAST 5.0 YARDS PER CARRY. Two of those teams were the ‘50 Colts and the ‘52 Texans. FAIL. Bye Hue.

-Raiders, under Hue, became the sixth team since the 1970 merger to allow at least 2,000 yards rushing and 4,000 yards passing in a season. FAIL Bye Hue.

Forget Hue acting like a total idiot, and prima donna, demanding more control. Or him throwing the team under the bus, after stating all along he deserved all the blame. He got fired because he didn’t just do an inadequate job, but, as you can see above, Hue did a horrible job.————————-

The only time Gruden was relevant was when he was Bucs coach? Doesnt sound like you know much about the Raiders. Bucs wanted Gruden BECAUSE of what he did with the Raiders. He took over a 4-12 team from Joe Bugel, turned them to an 8-8 team his rookie coaching season, ended up getting us to 12-4, then 10-6. Sounds like pretty good turn around to me.

You really want Gruden? The only time he was relevant was when he was on the bucs. Every season after that he was a subpar coach. A flash in the pan, if you will. There is nothing to support the fact that he’ll change anything. DA will right this ship, I have faith.

Do I really want Gruden? Of course.

I don’t think we’re getting him though, but if they announced he was coming here I would be ecstatic. It would be the mnost exciting news i’ve heard as a Raider fan in YEARS.

  • oakfshow

    Gruden went 8-8 8-8 12-4 10-6 with us.DA 4-11. end of that goofy discussion.

  • Al_is_theraiders

only thing worse than a reggie bootlicker is a DA sharpie licker…

B&B staff had no talent. No qb.. nothing… this o was fine.. many said it was stacked.. as we led the nfl in big plays last yr.. worst staff EVER!

Lunacy? The Rams went from 2-14 to 7-7-1 IN ONE SEASON. The Colts from 2-14 to 10-5. SF (2 yr’s ago) from 6-10 to 13-3.

While you are at it, make a list of Al Davis accomplishments the last 10 years.

Do you root for the name on the front of the Jersey or the back?

If you are a Raider, I support you.

McKenzie and DA are OUR peoples now!!!!

Doesn’t mean you care any less for Al Davis and everything he stood for by supporting the new GM and HC.

I don’t get the hate on DA. Are you all really that dense, or just looking for someone to blame for the team being bad? Want to know why Condo, Lechler, and Seabass ended up being neglected for the Pro Bowl? Simple:

Condo has had tons of high snaps this year, and has not been the rock he normally is.

Janikowski has missed three field goald, albeit from long distances. However, the fact that there was an option better than him has nothing to do with the coaches.

Lechler hasn’t been as dominating as years past. How the hell is DA responsible for that?

The team in general lacks talent, gonna take more than a crappy draft and a single offseason to fix all that. Get real.
    —————————————-
Is it your opinion that Dennis Allen is a good football coach?

    ______________
I say it’s too soon to truly determine his effectiveness. It’s lunacy to expect a coach to dynamically change a bad team around in a single season. If we don’t show improvement next season, then we can start placing the blame on him. But it’s too early yet.
    ———————————————-
That would be cool, if he inherited a bad team. He didnt take over the 2-14 Art Shell Raiders. He didnt take over the Lane Kiffin Raiders. He took over a team that was 8-8 2 years in a row, and was a single play away from making the playoffs last year. Was that a Super Bowl team? No. Is this team playing worse than it played last year? Yes.

Hes had a full season. This board has gone week after week, game after game, with examples of his ineptitude. We’ve given numerous reasons why we believe he is NOT a good coach.

You have given zero reasons why you believe he is or can be a good coach.

Maybe a season where the entire team is performing worse than they did one season ago is not enough for you to be able to assess whats going on. Fine. But its been enough for me to see that this guy doesnt have what it takes.

Some things take longer for some of us to realize than others. Oh, well.

No point arguing on this board anymore with people that think Dennis Allen is the guy. Its pointless. He clearly isnt, but I guess some people want to see him lose even more than he already has.

    We’re all different.

Proof right there that you’re not really a True Raiders fan. Real fans know the Raiders jersey doesn’t contain the Team Name or Logo on the Front.

    You kidding?

I think 95% of Raider fans would take Gruden back in a heartbeat ahead of the unproven DA and his crappy coaching staff!
    =====================
Why would Gruden want to come back to a place he left? Team is worse off than before. Dysfunctional from top to bottom. Bottom 5 team in the NFL. Too many headaches. Won’t happen.
