Halftime: Chargers 17, Raiders 7
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Sunday, December 30th, 2012 at 2:47 pm in Oakland Raiders.
The Chargers countered Terrelle Pryor’s first touchodown pass with an 81-yard drive that consumed 9:43 of the second quarter, ending with an 11-yard pass from Phillip Rivers to Antonio Gates for the touchdown.
Pryor drove the Raiders 80 yards in 12 plays before hitting Darrius Heyward-Bey with a 9-yard score _ Oakland’s first touchdown since the Denver game.
He made nice throws on the run, 10 yards to Rod Streater to his right, and 17 yards to Brandon Myers to his left.
Mike Goodson and Takeo Spikes were both ejected following a fight on Oakland’s scoring drive.
San Diego kept its epic drive going with a 6-yard run by upback Eric Weddle on fourth-and-1 with Mike Scifres back to punt.

If the passes float but get there, why is it even an issue?
—————————–
Rivers is throwing floaters today, too. It’s the weather conditions. If you zip a wet ball at receivers, they’re going to drop even more passes than they already do.

He is poised. with an offensive designed for him we could have a shot. love his attitude. The anti-cam newton.

Pryor looks ok.Not great but not terrible.Still a work in progress but he is showing potential.
December 30th, 2012 at 2:49 pm
why would you call a run right there?
December 30th, 2012 at 2:49 pm

December 30th, 2012 at 2:49 pm
Not bad at all for Pryor. I hate that he slipped. Coaches could’ve called a play that would’ve let him throw it out of bounds.
December 30th, 2012 at 2:49 pm
Raider Sam–another liar? I didn’t say he sucked. Never happened. I said he had questionable passing ability and it was unlikely he would do well. I said I was hoping for him to show any ability at all.

December 30th, 2012 at 2:50 pm
Pryor had two drops. He is solid. watch the 2nd half. bet he goes off.
December 30th, 2012 at 2:50 pm
Pryor played well. Not bad at all.
December 30th, 2012 at 2:50 pm
Pryor is now showing the poor decision making that I suspected. That was a mental meltdown on the 2:00 minute drill.
With 40 seconds and no timeouts, you do not run up the middle and slide for a measley 5 yards. Throw the ball out of bounds to stop the clock.
On the 3 and 1 with 12 seconds, he has no business running at all, let alone failing to get out of bounds. You either look for a very quick hitter outside that is out of bounds or incomplete or go deep corner of the end zone.
He just robbed SeaBass a perfect opportunity to break the record with a 65 yarder due to a bonehead play trying to get a meaningless 1st down with 6 seconds left.
Mental deficiencies are showing.
December 30th, 2012 at 2:50 pm
No timeouts.. pass the ball dìck
December 30th, 2012 at 2:50 pm
He slipped, I’m willing to give him a pass on that one. Because of how good he has played so far. Though his passing needs a little tweaking, I think he has done way more than enough to show he can play on this level.
But like I said earlier, one game is not going to tell us what his future will be like. All he has shown so far, is that he can play on this level. As to how good and consistent he can be, well, we will need to see a lot more to tell that.
So far though, I am happy with what I have seen.

DA or another coach should just tell Pryor to let her rip.
Forget if its an INT.
Show us what you got.
That’s what the Colts have said with Luck. Let her rip, if its a pick, it’s a pick. Play your game and throw that ball.
December 30th, 2012 at 2:51 pm

Nobody’s fault? Why was he running at all on a play with 12 seconds left and no timeouts. The ONLY option you have there is a pass that either gets you out of bounds or incomplete to stop the clock. Even if your goal is to run out of bounds, that still takes a lot more time and it risks fumbling or failing to get out.
Fault is 100% Pryor’s and it’s all signs of poor decision making.

Agree. Veteran play by DHB though to pull it off. It was a poor throw with way too much air, but at least he was able to stay clean in the backfield and get the ball there.
The big test now will be to see how he deals with the half time adjustments. You can rest assured the Chargers defensive brass is breaking down film and looking for his tendencies. I know they’re drooling over those shotput like throws and all the opportunities it will give them to get underneath them.
He also hasn’t shown enough threat as a runner to scare them, so they may be backing off one spy from here on out to add more depth in coverage. If that is hte case, then the right read for him IS to run more. Let’s see if he can make that read.

Are the Raiders rebuilding? Go with TP
December 30th, 2012 at 2:59 pm
Man, the hate is deep tonight. One slip from a supposed “#3 QB” on a mud field, and people call for his head.
Not crowning TP or anything, but c’mon, give an honest assesment of him. He has shown way more positives than negatives, and has at least done enough to satisfy expectations.
Some people are just too full of themselves to admit they were wrong about him I guess…

a roll-out to the sidelines certainly allows him to throw it away. Just slipped, nobody’s fault.
====
$$$$$$$!$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Omg. It’s only a bad decision because he slipped. People would be calling him a genius if he got out of bounds. There is nothing wrong with taking off to the sidelines with a clear line of site of the sideline. It was not a mental error. Seen QBs take off a million times in that situation and have it pay off. He friggin fell.

If anything, the failure was on the part of Dennis Allen or Knapp by not just kicking the FG at 12 seconds. They should have figured that if they trid something plan on a worst case outcome before calling the play.
TP6 is doing just fine for his first start with few practice reps. If anything, we now know that TP6 will be the #2 QB next year. Whether Leinart comes back or not will depend if he wants to come back at veteran minimum.

Yeah, DHB could have helped out. But in the end it was just a bad throw.
I really hope the wet ball is why he’s throwing like this almost every time. You really can’t have an NFL career throwing floaters.

Wasnt a bad throw. He actually threw it EXACTLY where DHB was. Watch the play, and watch it again. DHB didnt make a good attempt for the ball, and Jammer actually had to make an OUTSTANDING PLAY to make the INT.
That wasnt a simple INT right into the hands of the DB.

That INT was 50/50 on Pryor and DHB, IMHO.
====
You guys are hilarious. If DHB doesn’t make a brilliant, subtle push off and then a falling backwards catch previous, Pryor has no TDs and and 2 picks. He underthrows a very poor, hanging ball to a covered receiver and it’s the receiver’s fault?
He also has “fired” about 3 balls now into receivers across the middle with defenders draped on them. One was almost a catch and fumble (saved by a roughing call) and two have been incompletes. You have to put the WRs in position to catch the ball, and better yet hit them in stride so they can run out of trouble.
his decision and weak arm are going to get a lot of Raiders WRs on the IR.

Stop it.

Ball was short. Was a duck. What were you watching?
————————————–
The play. Multiple times, from different angles.
DHB is facing Pryor, of course its in front of him. Pryor isnt supposed to throw it OVER his head in this case, goodness. Watch the play again. DHB is in position, the ball is headed right in his direction, Jammer is BEHIND DHB. DHB STANDS there, not moving forward or making a play toward the ball, but rather just jumps STRAIGHT UP, as he stupidly always does, waiting for the ball to get to him. Quentin Jammer MAKES A PLAY by jumping in FRONT of DHB for the deflection, which he then was able to secure before it hit the ground. That was ALL on DHB. He made no attempt for the catch, just waited for the ball, and also didnt make a play to prevent Jammer from catching the deflection.

December 30th, 2012 at 3:32 pm
Also, he threw a “fade route” for the TD. Green Bay does it all the time. You’re starting to use words like “IF” instead of looking at the reality
====
Sit down and learn some football son:
A fade route is thrown over the top to the outside, where the WR’s route keeps the CB to the inside. The throw comes in over the top where ONLY the WR can make a play.
That ball was thrown in the area of a fade, but it was thrown more like a hitch pattern, except with too much loft. The problem is, DHB wasn’t running a hitch, he was holding the sideline for the throw on that side. The ball ended up to the inside of DHB, where the CB was in great position for the pick. DHB’s push saved his ass.

Stop it.
===============
Ive given my entire view of the play, full details.
Now what were YOU watching?
============
Did TP lead the receiver? No, dumbass.
did the defender step up and take the ball? Yes, dumbass.
Did the ball float? yes, dumbass.
Was it a floundering duck? yes, dumbass.
Clean your glasses. DUMBASS.
——————————————
HAHAHAHA, you are a clueless clown. Ive always felt bad when this blog went wild on you, but you are a b!tch AND an idiot. I’ll be ignoring youre dumb @ss going forward, but last word, let me respond to your idiocy.
ScrubKell “Did TP lead the receiver? No, dumbass.”
Sigh. How the hell do you lead a WR thats already in position to make the catch? Wow. Lead him where, to the end zone, where the secondary was ALREADY over top? Yeah, smart one. If Pryor “leads” him over top, the ball is into triple coverage. He threw underneath the coverage, INCLUDING JAMMER, who was STILL BEHIND DHB when the ball got there.
“did the defender step up and take the ball? Yes, dumbass.”
Umm, no. The defender stepped up and deflected the pass so that DHB couldnt catch it. He was not physically in position to “take the ball” as you said. After the awesome deflection by Jammer, he STILL didnt give up on the play, while DHB did, and he pulled in the deflection. He DID NOT cleanly intercept the actually pass, as you have just lied and stated.
Talk out of your mouth to me sideways again, you f#ckin scrub, I want you to. Everyone here knows youre a hoe cake. Bring it on, you sad little man.
