I think the coaching situation with the Raiders is the same as their situation with their players. They don't have a lot of money at the moment to get the guys they really wanted. I think they went with what they could afford.

The defense started to improve once they got rid of that huge hole right in the middle. That huge hole named Rolando McClain. Am I the only one who noticed once he was out of the middle things started to get better?

Something I found interesting was this: Why, in the zone blocking scheme were all the other backs able to gain yardage but McFadden wasn't? I don't think McFadden is that good. He's a race-horse, a thorough bred and if you can get him into the open field he can use his speed but how often can you get a back into the open field? I much prefer Reese to McFadden. Reese gained yardage every time he was in there, zone blocking or no zone blocking. Reese can also catch the ball, play wide out, he can even tackle. The biggest thing? He doesn't get hurt every other play.

It's time for Seymour to be gone. Houston is their best defensive linemen. Tommy Kelly is OK but for his size he doesn't do much except get stupid penalties and jump off-side. I'd keep him and put him over center on field goals and extra points because he's so tall.

Wheeler, Burris, and the new guy in the middle make for a pretty good, active set of line backers. They want to play and like to play as opposed to someone like McClain.

Ford will be back next year, Streater is there, Hagan, and Moore. I like this group. DHB is on the bubble in my book.

The D-back were hurt all year. I think next year they'll be better. The second tier guys started to gel at the end so that can only help the overall depth of this team come next season.

Jano is still there but Lechler might be gone because of money. Sad but punters are not that hard to get and if with Shane's pay they can get a punter and another guy, that is best for the team.

I like the O-line. I think they did a pretty good job considering Palmer had to throw so much because McD couldn't do much and the D had trouble stopping people. I'm not sure how I would go in the draft but I do like Reggie's philosophy to go with quality guys who love the game, think team first, and just want to get better. Allen's long term approach is also good. This is a process. It's one step at a time, brick by brick.

Over the course of the season I saw progress, then plateau, then more progress towards the end. Early on the mistakes of one week were not repeated the next. There was some digression weeks 6 and 7 but I think Allen was getting the most out of his players considering all the injuries. There were much fewer penalties and even though they were losing they were getting better. So there was overall improvement early on, a slight regression, plateau, and then more progress on the defensive side of the ball late in the season.

Thank you Raiders. I enjoyed watching the process. Keep your heads up. Keep striving. Keep going forward. It will be a lot of work but bit by bit things will come together and then suddenly, the Raiders will once again be a team to be reckoned with. Go Raiders. Just win baby. Pride and poise. Play smart. Play hard. Be the bigger man. Dominate. Have heart. No give. No quit. 60 minutes. Till the whistle. Clean, hard, strong, smart football.

Oakland Raiders. Silver and black. There is nothing better.

Mercury News: The way this blog is set up isn't very good. The comments run in a huge line and if I wish to reply to comment #1 my reply is down here at 917. It makes no sense. Also, why is it when I go to a Raider's article I cannot comment below but if go to any other article the comments option is below? It's aggravating and makes me not want to use your site. If I click on an article the text should come up quickly and by itself. I shouldn't have to wait for the entire page to reload, including all the ads and other baloney no one cares about. The design of your on-line paper is very bad and clunky. If you want to compete make the damn thing easy to use. Right now it isn't. It could be so much better than it currently is. I don't mean for this to sound angry or condescending but I'm frustrated by the design and interface of your site. As I said, it's not very good.

I see people suggesting we should bring Norv back.

Are you out of your freaking minds?

I have thoroughly enjoyed watching Norv dstroy SD from within for years. Sad to see him go. SD might get good again.

It was like watching Newt run for pres.

And some boneheads think we ought to hire him? Hey let's go get Art Shell too.

Reggie and DA should not have gone fully away from Davis' vision, should have embraced it, for that alone they should be fired. Plus they gave away so much potential in the preseason in exchange for 3rd tier players . . . The patchwork, leftovers in the secondary was tragic.

I have nothing against Greg Knapp as a person, but I am surely glad that he is gone! But we surely, need to address the situation about Peyton Manning. What in the world will we do about Peyton Manning? I don't have a clue.

"(Jerry Angelo) made a number of poor moves and trades until his eventual dismissal by Dan Snyder in 1999"

"first round draft of offensive tackle Chris Williams from Vanderbilt was mired in controversy as Angelo and team doctors knew Williams had a herniated disc before drafting him. It turned out to be a complete wasted pick"

"Somewhere along the way, Al Davis went completely insane, hired and fired coaches over and over again"

1. poor moves and trades
2. wasted draft picks
3. firing and hiring coaches over and over again

Way to go DA! It's about time! Hey D.A., if Hue Jackson's ego does not get in the way, why don't you bring him back? He was a great offensive coordinator.

You know what...

Its clear DA is on notice...RM too...they now have NO excuses. KRAPP is gone..they have all ofseason to get THEIR man (that better ft our personnel this time). No 2nd 3rd and 4th choices.

I wanted the CLOWNE COACHE CADRE gone...but I do think our D has shored up. Ganted we started from dumpster fire status but Tarver should be given another year. If you dump DA Tarver goes too.

I was worried KRAPP and OL and ST coaches would remain.

I am reluctantly willing to give D0A 1 more year...RM too...

This is it though. No '5 yr' BS plan/built in excuse. I also think we need to move away from expeNsive old stop gaps (read: definitely palmer/seymour, probably kelly and maybe huff). This helps our cap and draft options enourmously

I want to see this guy also become more adaptive and less pigheaded. he was as flexible as a stalagtite this past year.

OC OL and ST choices should be 'okayed' by RM as well.

NO MORE FREE REIGN/PASSES.

Not for THIS guy anyway.

anything less than 8-8 = INSTAFIRE

2013---> NO EXCUSES...

One big PS: Gruden truly available? ELIMINATE ALL TEXT ABOVE...GOOD BYE DA HELLO CHUCKSTER!

"than please explain how rgIII kappy and wilson are in the playoffs with these offenses?"

+++++++++++++++

They're all NFL caliber quarterbacks.
Let's watch and see how the college stuff plays long term. That was my point.

I was talking about a college offense for a COLLEGE caliber quarterback and the prospect of success with it LONG TERM.
