Raiders re-sign six players

The Raiders re-signed tight end Mickey Shuler, offensive lineman Jason Slowey, guard Jason Foster, linebacker Jerrell Harris, wide receiver Travionte Session and defensive back Akwasi Owusu-Ansah.
Those six players finished the season on the Raiders practice squad. Therefore, their contracts expired. The Raiders re-signed them Wednesday to what’s known as reserve/future contracts.
Here’s some background info on the six players:

Foster was signed to Oakland’s practice squad on Oct. 31. The 6-foot-3, 300-pound offensive lineman originally signed with the Indianapolis Colts as a non-drafted rookie free agent out of Rhode Island in 2012.

Harris, a 6-foot-2, 240-pound linebacker, was signed to the Raiders’ practice squad on Nov. 28. Harris originally signed with the Atlanta Falcons as a non-drafted rookie free agent out of Alabama in 2012, and spent time on the practice squad with both Jacksonville and New England before joining the Raiders.

Owusu-Ansah was initially signed to the Raiders’ practice squad on Sept. 19, and rejoined the Silver and Black on Dec. 10. A 6-foot-1, 205-pound defensive back, Owusu-Ansah played in 10 games with the Dallas Cowboys from 2010-11, registering 28 kick returns for 599 yards. He was originally selected by the Cowboys in the fourth round (126th overall) of the 2010 NFL Draft.

Session signed with the Raiders as a non-drafted rookie free agent out of Nevada in 2012. The 6-foot-2, 195-pound receiver spent training camp with the Silver and Black and was signed to the practice squad on Sept. 1.

Shuler was signed to Oakland’s practice squad on Oct. 16. The 6-foot-4, 251-pound tight end played in six games with the Miami Dolphins in 2010, totaling two receptions for 44 yards. Shuler also spent time with Minnesota in 2010 and 2011 after entering the league as the Vikings’ seventh-round draft pick (214th overall) out of Penn State.

Slowey joined the Silver and Black’s practice squad on Oct. 23 after spending training camp with the San Francisco 49ers. He was originally selected by the 49ers in the sixth round (199th overall) of the 2012 NFL Draft out of Western Oregon.

Why in the heck would Tom Clements, Dirk Koetter or Pete Carmichael Jr leave the Packers, Falcons or Saints to take THE SAME JOB with the Raiders?!?!?!?

    Really?… REALLY?!?!

Add into the fact that there is a NFL rule that the teams dont have to let assistants leave for anything other than a HC job..

We’d have a hard time just getting Kromer or Lombardi, who by the way is the QB coach for the Saints, because of the rule.

Either he’s the next RGIII or the next Tavaris Jackson…hedging toward the latter, unless he seriously puts in the work in the offseason.

    =========

There seems to be a pretty clear cut division about him.

Start him next year / cause he’s the future…..
    Cut-Trade him now / He ain’t a QB and sux….

I personally think it would be just fine if he was the #2 next year. I can’t say that he “Never WILL” be ready, however, I don’t think he’s ready right NOW…

So what’s wrong with him staying in the system and working with Carson some more? Cause obviously, much of TP’s development CAME from Palmer. We got bigger issues to fix right now.

so, we can get a 2nd and 3rd for palmer, according to YOU. what could we get for pryor? a 7th? as a wr. no gm in the nfl wants him as a qb. but u want to get rid of the guy that YOU say is worth a 2nd and 3rd so we can build around an inexperienced qb with poor throwing abilities.

    *************

i guess i’ll teach YOU something:

The “ghost” motion is a term used when a player removed from the formation (as we see with the “Z” receiver) starts toward the line of scrimmage and then runs through the backfield. This started to gain some popularity when I was a senior in college in the Big Ten and still has a home in creative situations. Add this to the downhill, off-tackle action from the RB and FB (creating a Lead Open look), and this looks like a Lead or a Reverse.

Will Clements want to come here? And remember, he’s coaching Aaron Rodgers…Palmer will be on THIRD oc since he’s been here, and they didnt set the world on fire with their running game, either.

looks like its going to be an interesting choice…maybe left picking through left overs.

    =====

My choice would be Norv, but he is rumored to go to the Jets, maybe he wants to stick it to the dolts and sign on though. There is no denying his play calling ability. That 10 minute back breaking drive last week was all play calling. He won’t come cheap though. Might want more $$$ than DA is making.

So what can we get for Palmer, what #pick?

could trade him out of the division

    obvious choices
Jets (70th pick overall) – would allow Jets to take lower tier pick, and use Palmer as one year bridge to him.
    available players
    Nickel Robey, CB, USC
Corey Lemonier, DE, Auburn – allows us to take OT, or another DE with first
Kawaan Short, DT, Purdue – helps if Seymour leaves
Bacarri Rambo, S, Georgia – ballhawk, keeps Huff at corner
Montee Ball, RB, Wisconsin – insurance for oft injured McFadden

Cleveland (68th) – ironically, i think he’d retire rather than play there
Travis Frederick, C/G, Wisconsin – helps for a possible move of Wiz 2.0 back to G
Da’Rick Rogers, WR, Tenn Tech – big , physical wideout
    Carrington Byndom, CB, Texas

Dallas (80th) – intriguing, because it isnt above Jones to give Romo a challenge, and Norv returning there would be an intriguing OC fit for CP3 – long shot
    Gerald Hodges, LB, Penn St.
Tyrann Mathieu , CB, LSU – return guy and nickel back down to his last chance
    Kevin Reddick, ILB, LSU
    Bacarri Rambo
Ricky Wagner, T, Wisconsin – again, allows us to take Damontre Moore first.
Brandon Jenkins, DE, Fla St. – that extra rush end

  • dr_robert

no big name OC will come here. balance of power would be off. it will be an up-and-comer from one of the playoff teams. a qb coach probably. maybe an OL coach.

  • DennisAllensVisor

Even if you could TRY and convince me that Palmer was worth what we gave up [he wasnt even close], his play since we got him, plus his contract, doesnt equal us getting very much in a trade.

Davis should run a brinks truck to Turner – get Joeckel and hope he can get a rusher later in draft and through FA

Turner wanting to stick it to San Diego would be the best x factor for 2013 – and relationship with Palmer could add another dimension…give him a little creativity with Pryor and watch the magic happen.

dont listen to the naysayers, that would be an EXCELLENT choice.

Charmichael has already interviewed for a HC job, and as probably on the outs as Brees had his worst season (when play caller Payton wasnt there)

light years better than Knapp – thats for sure.

lets review some “up and comers” from the playoffs and one candidate that is decent that should get some run

Carl Smith, QB , coach – Seattle
Ken Zampese, QB, coach – Bengals (was with 2000-02 greatest show on turf team)
Cam Cameron QB – supposedly Harbaugh didnt want him to go, and higher ups got rid of him, b/c Flacco had problems – didnt even return Al Davis call for HC job..Papa said he could resurrect McFadden’s career.
Dirk Koetter, OC, Falcons – may be a shake up if Falcons dont advance and M.Smith may ax him to save face.
Marty Mohrningweg, OC, Eagles – runs WCO but would need more of a pass catching back – offers intriguing possibilities for Marcel Reece.
    (dark horse candidate)
Curtis Modkins – was runningback/assist oc coach for Bills – made star out of Fred Jackson (until his injury)
