Raiders sign three free agents

By Steve Corkran
Thursday, January 3rd, 2013 at 3:42 pm in Oakland Raiders.

The Raiders signed three players after working them out: running back Jon Hoese, nose tackle Johnny Jones and wide receiver Isaiah Williams to reserve/future contracts.
Here’s what the Raiders have to say about the three players in a press release:
The 6-foot-2, 247-pound Hoese was in training camp with the Green Bay Packers in 2012. He was originally signed by the Packers as a non-drafted rookie free agent out of Minnesota, and spent time on Green Bay’s practice squad in 2011. His last name is pronounced HAZE-ee.
The 6-foot-4, 317-pound Jones was with the Packers for the past two seasons. He spent the majority of the 2011 season on Green Bay’s practice squad and was placed on injured reserve during the 2012 preseason. Jones originally signed with the Miami Dolphins as a non-drafted free agent out of Marshall in 2011.
Williams, a 6-foot-2, 204-pound receiver, spent time on the Arizona Cardinals’ practice squad in 2012. He has been with four different teams, including Pittsburgh and Seattle, since entering the NFL as a non-drafted rookie free agent with the Baltimore Ravens in 2009 out of Maryland, where he was teammates with current Raiders WR Darrius Heyward-Bey.

Chiefs hire Andy Reid, great offensive mind, and are looking to bring in Monte Kiffin for DC. Thats a lot of football intelligence and experience for a team talented enough to send 5 players to the Pro Bowl this season.

San Diego is interviewing Tom Gamble for their GM position. Tom is respected in the league, and has the ability to bring some good coaching talent with him. I think he’s done a real good job with the 9ers personnel and helping them build a solid team. We’ll see what happens there, but SD is looking to improve from what theyve been doing.

Broncos are in the playoffs, won the division, enough said.

Oakland Raiders. We dont have an O-line coach or an OC, two EXTREMELY important aspects of a staff, and would also be a huge advantage to us in the Senior Bowl coming up. We also have no Special Teams coach. Yet, we dont even hear a single word about potential candidates.

Whats going on Raiders? Im not impressed with what Im seeing so far this offseason. As horribly as they handled 2012, you would think theyd be hard at work trying to improve this staff, but we dont even hear a peep, while the other teams in our division are actively at work.

I need to hear something, anything regarding a plan to improve the coaching staff for next season.

Good Afternoon Nation!!! 3600+ posts. Cork is really messing with us.

He might be under special orders from the Raiders to teach us patience.

  • Dakota

He Dakota, what do you think of McFadden’s chances of redeeming himself next year?

  • guest123

Wow! there’s a lot of twitter chatter going on that RG3 is so hurt now he may miss the entire 13 season. Ouch!

  • http://www.raiders.com Raider O

Lol @ Dakota & Llama man.

  • Dakota

Well, Dakota, that is a good question. I think that if the Raiders hire the right OC, and return to the PBS, McFadden will be back. And I think McFadden going into the offseason healthy, should result in him returning to 100% health next year.

So Dakota, do you think Hue will be an NFL HC again?

  • Dakota

Well Dakota, obviously I think Hue can impress in an interview, so obviously he can get another HC gig, if, obviously, he can get some interviews. Hue obviously has some potential.

    >> seems to me that the AFC west just got a lot better with the new NC. john fox, andy reid and we all know there could be a big name coming to SD. DA better step up or he’ll be stepping out.

Dakota, why should we draft Joeckel when we have so many holes on the defense?

    >> Hue might get a job coaching a fantasy football team like i do. he has tremendous potential to excel in that endeavor.

    Goat of the Week

Andy Dalton, QB, Cincinnati. Pretty simple. All you need to do after the Bengals’ 19-13 loss is look at Dalton’s third-down passing numbers: 1 of 8 passing for seven yards, no touchdowns, no interceptions and one drop.

Dalton’s been a good player in getting the Bengals to the playoffs in his first two seasons. But for the second straight year the Bengals looked like the lone JV team in the 12-team playoff dance. Dalton has to play better in big moments. He sure didn’t Saturday afternoon in Houston.

    @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

King is right. Cincy just seems like a JV team with Dalton at the helm. Reminds me of the few games when Bruise was the starter here. Cincy needs an upgrade big time!

Dakota, why should we draft Joeckel when we have so many holes on the defense?

    >> theory may be that if you can build a beast OLINE and run the ball that THAT makes your defense better by default and allows you to control the LOS and TOP. if they want to draft OLINE, they better an LT AND a CENTER and move WIZ back to Guard, see if veldheer can play RT.

  • Dakota

Well Dakota, the Raiders actually suck on defense and offense, so if Joeckel is the best player on the board at #3, you take him and don’t look back.

Taking Joeckel and playing him at LT and moving JV to RT would improve our LT play and our RT play in one move. Then we just have to move Wiz back to LG and sign a FA C, and our line will be much improved. Palmer saved us about 25 sacks this season by getting rid of the ball a split second before getting hit….he needs more time.

If our offense improves next year it stands to reason that so will our defense. It would take the pressure off the D if the O could keep the ball for more than 4 downs, and put some points on the board.

    >> all a matter of opinion. i see your point, but they could just as easily draft the best pass rusher available at 3. i would expect RM to attempt to trade down.

  • Dakota

Dakota, why is everyone ready to give up on McFadden, Moore, Palmer, Ford and DHB when almost everyone now realizes Knapp was one of the worst OC hires in NFL history?

  • Dakota

Well Dakota, because Raider Fan is a fickle being!

  • Dakota

Dakota, you knew Cable was a POS HC after two games. You knew Hue was going to get fired weeks before the 2011 season ended. You knew Knapp was a disaster the minute he was rehired as OC. Why then do people doubt your call on Dennis Allen?

  • Dakota

Well, Dakota, I think there are certain people on this blog who are mildly retarded. That is the only way I can justify their continued support of Dennis Allen.

  • Dakota

Dakota, why are you at home watching American Wedding on a Monday?

    Dakota,

How do we solve the crisis in the Middle East?

  • Dakota

Dakota, that is an excellent question. I believe that if we Americanized the entire region with McDonalds, Wal-mart, and re-runs of Jersey Shore, the people there would be so fat and content that the thought of ridding the world of the J3ws would be the last thing on their minds.
