Woodson grew up after he left the Raiders

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Friday, January 11th, 2013 at 10:53 pm in Oakland Raiders.

Green Bay Packers defensive back Charles Woodson attained a level of production and respect he never had in Oakland.

The fact is, when Woodson left in free agency, his career was on the rocks. Even Tampa Bay coach Jon Gruden, who loved Woodson’s talent, did not authorize a big contract during free agency for the 2006 season.

Instead, Woodson signed with the only team that offered serious money _ the Green Bay Packers. And after relocating to the central United States with a team that would seem to have little to offer a player notorious for enjoying himself, Woodson instead thrived.

I remember writing a column before Woodson’s departure lamenting how a Hall of Fame talent would never reach the Hall of Fame. It’s not lot like I’ve never been wrong before, but it turns out I was way off base.

A link to Saturday’s story on Woodson after talking with Tim Brown and Rich Gannon . . .

  4. ProRaider Says:

Here are the possible variations of a search for a OC are playing out:

    1. Reggie and DA are clueless and the lack of trust between the two complicates matters. They have no understanding of the protocol.

    2. Reggie is waiting to see if DA embarrasses himself at the senior bowl before he decides weather to retain him or not.

    3. Reggie already has Gruden on board and is just waiting for the senior bowl game to be over and then fires Allen.

    4. Reggie has secretly packed his bags and has moved on.

    5. The calm before the storm. Something is festering big time. Again, no news is not good news.

    6. The frustration of the season is still weighing heavy on Reggie and he can’t get past it. Not sure if finding a OC is a priority right now.

    7. Reggie is banking on the entire Packer staff coming to Oakland (absurd, but so was the hiring of DA and the approval of knapp).

    8. There is a power struggle going on. Think about it. Why no word on possible coaches to replace the ones that were fired. And, did DA have Reggie’s blessing to fire knapp, or was DA goin HueJax on the Raiders?

    9. Maybe their taking the ‘better keep silent and appear dumb than to speak and remove all doubt’ approach.

Just some food for thought gents.

Woodson needed GB. Would have wasted away here doing whatever the flip he pleased. I still remember his interviews where he just basically laughed off the notion of reviewing game film.

ProRaider, I wish #3 was the case, but not very likely at all. They are waiting for some of these teams to get eliminated. Problem is…the guy that hired Knapp is in charge of hiring his replacement. Knapp was his first choice last year.

The only big thing that could be happening…and it isn’t…is we find out the Gruden rumors were actually true and they can’t make the announcement now cuz the Senior Bowl thing screwed it all up as far as the timing.
    ________

How do you know it isn’t? That is a very logical point. It makes more ‘hopeful’ sense than my diatribes.

Definitely keep those thoughts coming. I like what you and GG are posting. It’s fun to speculate. Sports is supposed to be entertaining.

It sure beats the incessant ‘be patient for the next 5 yr’s’ crowd. They may be right, they may be wrong, but it sure is boring to see that stuff repeated day after day.

Good ole Greg ‘we teach what we know’ Knapp. How anyone could look at our offensive roster, then look at Knapp and say ‘yeah, he’s the guy we want!’ is incomprehensible. And yet, that is exactly what DA did.

Problem is we’ve sweated out the last twenty two years. This wait for five year approach is for the birds. People say that when they are not sure of the outcome. Get Gruden in here and we got it goin. DA and Reggie took a step backwards. 5 years ain’t gonna be enough time. Besides, I think those two fight a lot. Lack of trust, lack of mutual cooperation, lack of professionalism.

I have a hard time believing it. Knapp was hired I think either the day after or 2 days after DA was introduced as head coach. I find it far fetched that they had gone through 5 candidates in the span of a day. Nah, don’t believe that for a second.

Lefty, are you saying DA and knapp had a bromance and knapp turned out not to be who DA thought he was? Or did Reggie have something to do with breaking them up? Not all love at first dates live happily ever after. Maybe Reggie has a complicated affection for DA and that is why DA is still here. And until the Raiders say why they’re keeping so quiet on all this, we can speculate any thing we want. Till then, I’m taking the line that they are clueless.

Until Reggie/Allen start making brilliant or even just smart moves, hires and acquisitions, having a history of such behind them, it’s hard to imagine them making any such smart moves in the present day.

I glass is half full it, staying positive of them making good/brilliant coaching hires, gameplans, roster acquisitions, and draft picks.

But until then I also imagine things just keep getting worse. Them making bone-headed coaching hires, draft picks, roster transactions, and seeing more on-field failure in 2013.

Things continuing to be frustrating and a joke.

Just dawned on me that the hold up on the OC could be because these guys are stuck.

Reggie hired DA because he wanted to mirror Green Bay. Those are the players he knew and he understood how to evaluate players for that system.

DA and Reggie both LOVE the ZBS and now they are stuck because it didn’t work under Knapp.

If they bring in another ZBS coach and it bombs they will both be looking for work, but if they bring in someone with a different system then Reggie is f’ked because that’s the only players he knows how to evaluate.

Maybe they just don’t have a clue how to move forward. They were so sure there plan was going to work that when it failed it blew their mind.

The coaching/play calling has been horrible the better part of the last 10 years on one, if not both sides of the field. And for the love of God, can they figure out how to cover a screen play on defense. Teams shred us on those.

Senior Bowl Date: January 26, 2013

Packers could very well win this weekend, and the next.

Could be another 3 weeks of zzz’s before hearing anything on the coaching front — be it any possible HC change or staying the course and hiring an OC.

Like someone posted just before…there’s nothing holding Reggie back from hiring a LB or ST coach (not related to a new OC).

    Why no interviews whatsoever??

Maybe it’s true there’s a possibility of a whole new HC post-Senior Bowl.

Nothing stopping Reggie/Allen from hiring a LB, ST coach outside of an OC search.

Only reasonable suggestion…Allen trawling the Senior Bowl for coaches to hire.

7.4 mil over the cap, ten years of losing, and a lot of proven OCs just arent interviewing…McKenzie has to put a structure in with very few proven people around him – no Eric DeCosta, no Greg Gabriel …

it is what it is… a lot of wishful thinking and not well coordinated drafts – paralysis, no innovation, etc. IT IS SIMPLY NOT THEIR ERA

at some point it would have all come together

the great rookie, the veteran comeback player, the gutsy coordinator that motivated a “misfit” offensive line, that one coordinator that fashioned a new approach

none of these archetypes that create winners came together, amid turnover, giving up on players, and over paying the wrong players … somehow the mystique dematerialized and by 2012

Turns out this chick was a Raiderette during our playoff/Superbowl run…look her up!

She be talking smack about them Cowgirls and how gangsta the Raiderettes are…chick is funny!

If Eddie Lacy came here, I wouldn’t be suprised if he almost instantly became our best offensive skill player.

    No top-shelf talent on offense.

Might be the 1st time in a long time! But no doubt Lacy would be an upgrade to TJ and Goodson!

There is none. It was supposed to be Marcus Lattimore. (then that nightmare trainwreck accident that made his lower leg look like a sock being pulled out of a dryer)

Lacy or Montee Ball will go first late 2nd mid 3rd – then its Stepfan Taylor of Stanford

Good morning buddy, Both systems work, you hire the people to run the one that fits your personnel.

  80. Raider O Says:

    Chico,

I like Michael Dyer. He broke Bo’s freshman record at Auburn.
5′9, 205+, and runs with speed and power.

  81. Bob Marley Says:

I don’t have an issue with the “lack of activity” regarding the OC and ST Coaching search, as long as we get it right and I like that the organization remains secretive in their ways, that’s how it’s supposed to be.

  82. Just Fire Baby Says:

Didn’t Michael Dyer get hooked on Spyce and then rob someone at gun point?

  83. Just Fire Baby Says:

    Good morning Bob.

Correct sir, both systems can work, and great RB’s like Lynch and Ray Rice can run in either system no problem.

But……some people like to take sides in the debate, and so it is kind of cool that we have 4 games that match one system against the other today.

    The debate rages on!!!

  84. Raider O Says:

    Chico,

I know he had off the field issues , but I don’t know exactly what happened. He was suspended at Auburn and was kicked out of ASU too, but I’m willing to draft him later in the draft. 5-7.

  85. r8eray Says:

O, the only RB coming out of Auburn this year is McCalebb…maybe next year!

  86. Just Fire Baby Says:

Yeah….did a little reseach on Dyer.

He IS NOT a draftable player. Maybe UDFA type.

    Sounds like Cecil Collins 2.0

  91. Just Fire Baby Says:

    Really, why not?

He has been kicked out of two schools, been arrested a few times, multiple gun violations and by next preseason won’t have taken a carry in over 18 months.

I’d say that is a pretty decent reason to not waste a draft pick on him.

OK, maybe our last 7th round pick, I’ll cede that.

Sounds like more trouble than what he is worth.

    Enough of these gun-toting Southerners!!!!

  94. Bob Marley Says:

    JFB.

You mentioned that if Hue were to get the NYJ job, we might be able to trade Palmer to them.

I think from a football standpoint it makes sense, Rex is on the hot seat and Palmer gives them a better chance to win now than Sanchez but…

The Jets are facing huge salary cap issues, they owe Sanchez like 8 million next year, I don’t think they can’t possibly add Palmer’s salary, even if he restructures.

In fact, I think the player that might interest them is McFadden, Hue knows how to use him and they say Shon Greene won’t be back, McFadden has a big salary next year as well but not close to Palmer’s and since D-Mac is in the last year of his deal, they could work out a long-term deal and lessen the cap hit in 2013.

You put D-Mac behind a decent run-blocking unit like the Jets and under Hue’s system and he should thrive again.

    What would we get?.

    I’d say a 2nd rounder is possible, so is 3rd and a 5th or maybe two 3rd rounders, 2013 and 2014.

Then there’s the Falcons, Turner is done, Jacquizz is too small and Snelling hasn’t been capable of overtaking Turner’s snaps.

If Atlanta falls short of the Super Bowl again, coming of a 13 win season and home-field it’s going to be because they can’t run the ball, you have to think they would be willing to add more punch to their running game and McFadden with Roddy ad Julio outside makes for a formidable trio of weapons.

The Falcons have finished paying up picks from the Julio trade, so they have a full slate.

    M Clarett!

  96. Just Fire Baby Says:

Anyone remember Cecil “the Diesel” Collins?

Played real well as a freshmen in the SEC, got kicked out of school, went to a D-II school, got in more trouble, went to the draft, and within about a year was in jail for years.

Same story as Dyer up until this point.

I don’t think we could get a present 4th round pick for McFadden.

If we took it in later years (2014, 2015) then maybe the pot would be sweetened.

Too many injuries and lack of production in his career, not too mention $5 million guaranteed next year, which puts him close to the top 5 paid at his position.

Morning, folks. I see some of the regular am crew are here.

  102. Charlie Says:

I do not see us moving Palmer.
    Pryor is simply not ready.

I could see us trying to move Dmac. He is an interesting talent but he needs massive amounts of space to be effective. I am not sure what his YAC is but it seems low. The injury issues are well documented.

I am a big supporter of the power scheme with primary ball carriers like Bush, Wheatley, Hubbard and Van Eeghan.

Change of pace guys like Clarence Davis, Charlie Smith and Charlie Garner are needed but they are complementary pieces.

Dmac gas a big contract which is a problem. Of further concern is our oilne.
I would be happy if we used our number one on the oline but our dline is in worse shape.

  103. The Big Banana Says:

Norvell to the Browns? Darn, 1 good candidate off the list.

  104. Just Fire Baby Says:

Nobody is going to give up a decent draft pick, $5 million in guarantee’s for someone who they are not sure who can give them 10 games before he comes a FA.

They would rather just try to find the next Alfred Morris and pay him 350K for a few years.

  105. Just Fire Baby Says:

When you google “get my goose on” it brings up all kinds of article on Clarett showing up to Bronco’s camp with his own “Water bottle” full of grey goose.

    LOL……great draft pick Shanarat!!!!

  106. Bob Marley Says:

Last season we passed on drafting 3 “character” guys that turned out to be very good players, undrafted LB Vontaze Burfict and RB Bryce Brown and 7th round CB Alfonzo Dennard, now I’m good with going “safe” on top picks, but from round 5 and on, you have to take a few shots with some of these talented but troubled kids.

I mean Nathan Stupar offered no upside whatsoever, you find his type anywhere, we could have afforded to take a shot on Burfict, Dennard or Brown, I hope from now on we take a shot once in a while.

  107. Charlie Says:

You will not see us go anywhere near questionable character types with Reggie drafting.

With the money that is being tossed around, players you draft need to be self motivated, professionals IMMEDIATELY to have an impact.

This was one of Mr Davis’ failings as he aged.
Players like JR and McClain were not mature enough to deal with the money they fell into. Back in the day, NFL players still needed to work hard. Some had to work a job in the off season to support a family.

In this day and age, coaches can teach many things but motivation is not one of them.

  108. Just Fire Baby Says:

Once this franchised is triaged, we will take so more chances.

Right now we are still on life support and no risks can afford to be taken, IMO.

Once we have strong leaders on both sides of the ball, then Reggie will be able to draft the Burficts of the world.

As we saw with the article on Charles Woodson, and as we saw happen this year, and all you hear Pryor, Reggie, and Allen talk about is having strong leadership in the club.

Once we have that, then we’ll see a turn around, and our organization able to develop risky draftees.

  111. Charlie Says:

    Marley

If you have a solid core of self policing guys in the locker room you can take on a project once in a while.

With the exception of Palmer, I do not believe we have that type of guy in the locker room.

The Raiders of old used to take on a project about once a year. With a core group of Shell, Upshaw, Brown, Otto, Conners you could do that.
    Not now.

  112. Just Fire Baby Says:

    Bob,

The big test for those players is the offseason.

Burfict had no off-the-field baggage, he was just damn near bi-polar on it and showed up to the combine fat.

Not one team drafted him, so it wasn’t just us.

  113. ProRaider Says:

Jeff Fischer is gonna have one heck of a coaching staff. Smart coaching = wins. Fischer (besides Gruden and HueJax) were my two hopes when Reggie was hired on. But ‘his guy’ Allen has spoken volumes about the competence of his ability to find the right type of coach. Hopefully Reggie is smart enough to see his gaffe and DA has a pink slip in hand before he leaves Mobile. Maybe Gruden is in the wings. But this coaching game of musical chairs is frustrating when you see all these other teams putting together thier staffs.

  114. Charlie Says:

    Just fire.

That has been the Shanahan MO for years and it used to be ours.

Build the in box talent with high picks and then pick up Marv Hubbard in round 11 or Van Eeghan in round three and run the ball.

Not sure how much of that was Mr Davis or Ron Wolf.

  115. Just Fire Baby Says:

Shanahan hasn’t won, what, one playoff game in 15 years?

That model has been proven to be highly ineffective, IMO.

    Nobody would trade for McFadden?.

The Bills traded Marshawn Lynch in 2010, at the time he had lost his starting job and was a back-up for Fred Jackson, he was coming of a career low 420 yard season and a 3 game suspension for violating the NFL’s personal conduct poilicy, with the ensuing risk of a longer suspension if he screwed up again.

Buffalo got a 4th round pick in 2011 and a 5th round pick in 2012, a huge steal but Lynch carried a ton of baggage at the time.

McFadden’s stock right now is higher than Lynch when he was dealt, I think we could trade him and fetch better value, a 2nd or 3rd and 5th, a couple of 3rds maybe.

  119. Just Fire Baby Says:

I am pretty sure Reggie and DA have a wink-wink deal with a couple of coaches from these staffs still in the playoffs to interview as soon as their season is over.

Al waited until Jan 27th to hire Hue after 2009.

Saunders can run the drills in Mobile, perfect gig for a 67 year old consultant.

    Pro Raider

I will not bore others on this blog with the background of our cap issues, lack of picks and abysmal roster talent that I have documented at length on several occasions.
Our situation is unlike any team in the NFL in the last 20 years.
Please dont get me started on coaching. It is 20% of the game.

Player talent is what determines wins and losses.
Let me know when coaching salaries make up the majority of the Raider payroll then we can talk.

  122. Just Fire Baby Says:

Lynch almost had as many yards in his 3 yards as Darren has had in 5 years with us, and one less TD.

    And no history of injuries.

But yeah a 4th and a 5th. I said McFadden could maybe get us a 4th, so that is about right.

  123. Bob Marley Says:

I don’t see the trouble in spending a 7th round pick on Dennard or signing an undrafted kid such as Burfict or Brown, any player you get at that point has like a 5% shot at maing the team anyways, I’d rather take the talented guy with upside and character issues than the Nathan Stupar’s of the world, like I said, late picks or undrafted, I agree with going with solid kids in rounds 1 to 5 or 6.

Uhm, we don’t, let’s not get into imaginary situations, fact is we did not get them, spending a 7th runder on either would have secured them.

  127. Charlie Says:

Yet many on this blog thought Cable was a buffoon when in Oakland. Amazing how smart a Russell Okung can make a coach look.

No, I think it was Seattle building in the box talent with high round picks over the last several years that helped Lynch. Seattle simply has a better line to work behind than Buffalo.

I like Cable but like any coach he needed talent.
He has it on the line in Seattle.
He had much less line talent in Oakland.

  128. Bob Marley Says:

And guys, I’m not making a big deal out of it and I’m not even trying to call out Reggie for it, the rest of the League missed on them too, I’m just saying I’d be a bit more agressive and willing to take a shot on that type of kids…maybe when I’m running my team, lol.

  129. Just Fire Baby Says:

I don’t see the trouble in spending a 7th round pick

    ************************

To us fans of course, and in a practical sense it really doesn’t when you factor in the % of 7th rounders who actually even play in the NFL.

But when you are dealing with people at the top of their professions, like an NFL GM, they think every 7th round pick they can turn into a future impact player.

BTW, Bryce Brown was drafted the pick BEFORE Nathan Stupar, and Denard about 10 picks before, so they weren’t on the board when we took the great Stupar.

  130. Raider O Says:

Like issue mant times, we should focus on DL, and we don’t need to invest a lot in our OL when we lack impact players.
How many teams won SBs this decade with avg OL and without investing high picks in the OL?

  131. Bob Marley Says:

Citing a source, the Cleveland Plain Dealer’s Mary Kay Cabot confirmed Shefter’s report. This move fits the Brown’s anticipated shift from a 4-3 to 3-4 base defense.

If Pagano does go to Cleveland, he’ll likely join former Chargers head coach Norv Turner, who is expected to be named the Browns’ offensive coordinator when he returns from his family vacation in Hawaii.”

San Diego’s Defense played well all year.

  135. Seymour Bush Says:

Dennis Allen alluded to the fact that eventually the players run the team and we are not there yet. So bringing in troubled guys would be a disaster. Charles Woodson was exactly that here: sleep through meetings, party the night before games and overall eff around. That’s the way it has been around here for DECADES. And no one is held accountable. Do any of you think Justin Smith goes out partying til 8am Game Day morning? You need certain guys to set the tone for your team. We don’t have those guys, and bringing in really troubled 7th rounders is not the answer in my mind.

  136. Bob Marley Says:

  137. Raider O Says:

Those teams have faded a bit because of poor line play.
Depth on the lines is important and those team suffered some injuries on the lines and their lack of depth showed thsi year.

Ben and Eli can do just so much. You have to give these guys support in pass protection and running.
Big Ben is getting knocked around quite a bit and at his age he can not take those hits.

Our lines are in very bad shape and we can not afford any misses.

The earlier Lynch argument is another example of how a good Oline can elevate an entire team.
The Seahawks and Redskins have gotten back to the playoffs by using high picks in recent years to build the in the box talent.
Most of the league does it.
The Raiders used to do it as well.

I am confident we will be returning to it with Reggie.

Yeah, the Bengals are the model for player leadership…Marvin Lewis and Mike Zimmer made Burfict a Pro, same as with Pac-Man.
    ==========================================

They’ve rolled the dice on those types of players and you can’t exactly say it has worked out incredibly well for them. Pac Man played really well for them. So has Burfict. But they haven’t won anything. And guys like Geno Atkins is the type of player I am talking about. Is Tommy Kelly a leader?

The big test for those players is the offseason.

Burfict had no off-the-field baggage, he was just damn near bi-polar on it and showed up to the combine fat.

Not one team drafted him, so it wasn’t just us.

Reid is a bad example my friend.
He may not have a ring but he he is the franchise leader in wins (140) and winning percentage (.578) and led the Eagles to six division titles and five NFC Championship Games.
I will take that over our last decade.

Marley fell for the standard Andy Reid “media coach speak” where he (as always) accepts responsibility for everything that goes wrong with the Eagles including a drop in concession sales. I live in the Philly area and I have seen it for 14 years.

    Here is what really happened.
    AUTOPSY OF A COACHING SCAPEGOAT:
On January 11, 2010, General Manager Tom Heckert was hired by the Cleveland Browns in the same role. He was replaced by Howie Roseman, who was promoted from Vice President of Player Personnel.
    2010 Win 10 Lose 6
    2011 Win 8 Lose 8
    2012 Win 4 Lose 12
Philadelphia has signed a number of high-profile free agents over the past week (August 2011), including cornerbacks Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and Nnamdi Asomugha, defensive linemen Jason Babin and Cullen Jenkins, quarterback Vince Young, offensive lineman Evan Mathis and running back Ronnie Brown. Reid attributed that to a plan executed by team president Joe Banner and general manager Howie Roseman.
“Andy didn’t share himself with the press because he wanted to protect his players and the way he coaches,” Lurie said. “Having worked with him 14 years, he’s a gem of a person. This man was amazing to work with, smart and dedicated himself.”
Reid met with his players afterward and was sent off with a standing ovation.
“It’s unfortunate. I feel we personally let him down,” wide receiver Jeremy Maclin said. “It’s a sad day.”
Added rookie quarterback Nick Foles, “It is up to the players to make plays”.
“The only thing that’s changed since then is that Reid, who also was fired on Monday, talked to the Chiefs for 9 hours on Wednesday and then began negotiating the terms of his hiring. It sure appears as Pioli read the tea leaves that this was going to be Reid’s show and decided it was best to move on. Now Reid can hire a de facto general manager – one former yes man, Tom Heckert, just got fired as GM in Cleveland – and go about his business the way he did for the most of his time with the Eagles.”
Bottom line is “Howie” was put in as GM in 2010 and butted heads with Reid. “Howie’ tried the glitz and glam approach with HIS dream team concept and the rest is history. The organization has been in steady decline since and Reid had enough. Reid did not suddenly get stupid! Neither

Me and you are on the same page Charlie when it comes to this topic, it is beyond me the so called “Football Fans” dont understand that even if you have a steller Qb,Wr,Rb, they wont be able to function at their highest capacity without a good to great oline. If a QB is always wary of the rush(CP3) and on his back how can he get the ball to that great wideout(Dwayne Bowe is a good example). It also affects the defense, if your Oline is bad than your entire offense is likely to be bad which leads to many three and outs which means your defense will be on the field for the majority of the game(Raiders fans should know this)and know matter how good that D might be they will eventually get tired and give up points(see the 9ers D before Harbaugh) So you see the oline has an affect on the entire team. BTW look at Bama’s oline I know its college but thats what a dominant oline will do for a team Nick Saban knows this and will always recruit the best olinemen which is why I say draft Warmack(trade down) and Barret Jones(with the 2nd we aquire)that would help out this offense greatly which would in turn help out the D.

If the Raiders had decent playmakers and a solid defensive side of the ball, I think Carson would have helped the Silver and Black post a “return to glory” type of year. As it was – injuries, hamstrung by lack of draft picks, overinflated salaries and divas who just couldn’t (or wouldn’t perform), we got what we probably should’ve gotten – pretty crappy results. So if we invest a few quality pieces in this offseason, undo some of the things that the old man did in his dying last couple of years with the team, bring in some decent coaches, then I think we can stage a turnaround similar to what Indy did this past year. It doesn’t take long – it just takes the right formula of talent, structure, and focus. I believe …

  172. eastoaklandraider Says:

Green Bay’s oline was not bad the year they won the SB and neither was the Giants when thet won their SB, both teams have invested in their olines over the years. The Packs oline this year has be desimated by injuries this season as well but as you have seen as of late they have been playing much better as they have gotten healthier. We wuill see how good or bad the do against the 9er front.

  173. Bob Marley Says:

Drafting OL is huge, specially Offensive Tackles.

    2012 Playoff teams.

24 starting Offensive Tackles, 16 were either a 1st or 2nd round pick.

Every team but GB has at least 1 starting OT drafted in the 1st round.

    Indy: Castonzo, 1st.
Cincy: Whitworth, Smith, 2nd and 1st.
Bal: McKinnie, Oher, 1st and 1st.
    Hou: Brown, 1st.
NE: Solder, Vollmer, 1st and 2nd.
Den: Clady, Franklin, 1st and 2nd.

Minn: Kalil, Loadholt, 1st and 2nd.
    Was: Williams, 1st.
    Sea: Okung, 1st.
    Atl: Baker, 1st.
SF: Staley, Davis, 1st and 1st.

Then you have GB with a Left Tackle drafted in the 5th round and an undrafted free agent at RT, but the Pack did spent 2 of their last 3 First round picks in OT’s (Bulaga and Sherrod, both injured).

  174. Charlie Says:

The Oline is the heart of your team.

Move the chains and score points are the way to beat Peyton and other good QB’s. You must keep them off the field.

What shocked me and I really did not expect this is how Knapp seemed to force feed his grid over the talent instead of adapting it to the talent he had. You would think an OC with that kind of experience could fit in a pbs or zbs or a mixture as the situation warrented. That would give us: Melton, Werner, Houston, Shaugnessy and Bryant across the front (not bad, in my opinion). We can work on bringing in linebackers, but if we retain Burris and Wheeler both, I think we’ll be okay. If we can trade DMac for a second rounder, go for the highest rated defensive back on the board. Third Round – highest rated player among either offensive linemen, linebackers or defensive backs. That’s just the first step(s) …

As I said you might find a Gene Upsshaw in round five but the odds are better in round one.

BARNES Free agent cast off from Jacksonville. 30 years old. The Denver game is all you should need to see that he can NOT compete at the NFL level. Requires major max protect against good dlines which limits our offensive options.

CARLISLE 35 years old. Probably retiring after this year. Can Bergstrom backfill?

BRISIEL Free agent 29 years old Average performance at best this year

SHAUGNESSY Complete non factor as a pass rusher. Ineffective on rush defense as well. Continues to lose playing time to Carter who is 33.

KELLY 32 years old. Undrafted free agent signed most lucrative deal for a DT in NFL history. Easily neutralized by good Olines. Only applies rush pressure against weak fronts. Has been part of Dlines that are routinely shredded by good running backs at an embarrassingly high statistical level. The Tampa game should tell you how quickly he can disappear.

SEYMOUR 33 years old Body is shot. Cannot practice let alone play. Will not be in NFL next year. Disastrous.

Houston, Wiz II, Veldheer show promise. The rest would not be starting anywhere else in the NFL.
It will take two drafts just to deal with these holes.

How’s that #1 pick at LT helping the Jags offense? It was better before he got there. Jake Long in Miami?

The reality is all 8 of these teams made it to the divisional round with zbs or pbs. TNo system is inhereently superior. Then there is the passing style differences among the teams with some West Coast and others more like Air Correal etc…

I think the key is to match your system to your talent and build a system around your talent. I know ths sounds too obvious. What shocked me and I really did not expect this is how Knapp seemed to force feed his grid over the talent instead of adapting it to the talent he had. You would think an OC with that kind of experience could fit in a pbs or zbs or a mixture as the situation warrented. For the life of me even if he wanted to go zbs eventually is why did he not just graudually mix in some zbs and keep what was working.
    ……….

because Reggie,DA, and Knapp had a plan. They didn’t care how much they lost the 1st few years, they just assumed it would eventually start working.

However, Mark and the fans lost their patience and pushed for something to be done.

I’m glad they did because you know what they say about “assuming”. To assume makes an azz out of u & me. There was no guarantee it would ever get better and McFadden was being wasted.

Now, Reggie and DA must understand that they can’t throw the baby out with the bath water. They have to use what they have now while implementing for the future.

This is a really important point. CP3 often would force balls and get them out of there to not take sacks. Some of his interceptions came on tips because lineman were getting too close too soon. In contrast Aaron Rogers if you watch him will scramble around and take a sack for a 3 yard loss rather than risk an interception.

Get out some tape and watch the 2002 Oakland Raiders, Gannon could eat a sandwhich back there most of the time and allow Rice, Brown or others get open while CP3 was running for his life.

Some of CP3’s passes were dropped even though thrown accurately by WRs because he had to throw too soon. Simple how many times you got sacked is a deceptive statistic!

Regarding line play stats vs. film:

I have to agree with East Oakland Raider here. Get NFL rewind and buy the extra coaches tape. You can see how bad pass protection effect CP3 with quicker thows and the ball getting there too soon. Scouts and coaches when they break down on film see this stuff. This is why Barnes and Carlise will likely not be coming back and we will try to address the OL in the offseason. By the way no team unless absolutly devasted by injuries will pick these 2 up.

Another guy that masks bad line play is PM. He just gets the ball away quickly and audibles out of threats.

In fact after I thought about this CP3 probablly just had his best year considering what he was working against with no real play action and the line situation along with WRs drops.

  229. Charlie Says:

The line determines how creative a coordinator can be.

The Raiders used to be the most feared and succesfull team in the NFL.
They did it by physically punishing other teams on the line of scrimmage. We employed physically gifted lineman and linebackers who were very ill tempered.

Alzado, Shell, Upshaw, Keating, Davidson and on and on controlled the game and we won. End of story.

While I am taking a chance here (without looking it up) my guess is the PFF scale is not too kind to the right side of our line but very kind to the left side of the line. It is the right side of the line that is a problem.

If I have an agenda I would like us to draft/sign a Center get Wiz back at Guard and be emergency BU center and then hope that Bergstrum works at RG and also get someone that can play RT. If we did that we would be better.

I mean do you seriously think Barnes and Briesell played well this year???

We respect stats but they can be misleading.

How much comes in garbage time?

How are the stats impacted by game score, competition strategy, circumstances such as weather and INJURIES TO PLAYERS!!!!!!!!

I HAVE SAID IT AND WILL CONTINUE TO SAY IT.

Our record over the last ten years with SEVEN DIFFERENT COACHING STAFFS DOES NOT LIE.

We have very poor talent and have been in that position for a decade.

If you do not believe me, perhaps you will believe Madden:
“It’s going to be structured around the personnel part and getting good players,” Madden said. “It’s all about players. We can talk about this thing and that thing and having good cheerleaders and all that. That’s all nice but you have to have players. If you have players, you’re probably going to win. If you don’t have players, you’re not going to win. … They’re going to go out and get the best players, and if they don’t have them, then they’re going to keep trying until they get them.”

RaidO, when talking about the oline its hard to use stats in your argument and stats can be misleading at times.
    $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

It’s not hard to use stats, if you know how/ what to use/ look for . Sacks allowed, hits, hurries, etc … Can tell you the entire story.

    ————–

No, it doesnt and if you think this is an elite pass blocking line than the stats are misleading you.

Carson Palmer was hit, FACT, the 4th fewest times in the NFL last year, and he has cement for feet.

If we had a QB of even just Aaron Rodgers mobility, or Brady like quick release, we might have set an NFL record for fewest QB hits allowed in a season.
    **********************

Do you even watch GB games. AR when there is good coverage will hold on to the ball migrate to the LOS and take sacks rather than risk interceptions. That is his style. Because of that he takes a lot of hits. He is an awesome QB but he would have been killed with our WRs and the right side of our line.

AR has great WRs that typically get open and he is good at finding the open reciever but he would have defintely got hit more here.

  246. Just Fire Baby Says:

I mean do you seriously think Barnes and Briesell played well this year???

    ************************

Briesel absolutely not and why I have been advocating drafting Warmack. Gives us the best instant upgrade probably on our whole roster.

Barnes played 9 games, and our offense seemed better than 9 games he played than the 7 games he didn’t. People always bring up his penalties, but it just shows a bias as he has NEVER been the most penalized O-lineman on our team in a season.

PFF graded Veldheer and Wiz almost elite, Barnes slightly above average.

  247. Charlie Says:

How has keeping plays alive been working for Ben the last couple of years?

They failed to make the playoffs because their line play is falling off. Another year like the last couple and Ben will be out of league in a nursing home.

  248. eastoaklandraider Says:

Look at the QB hits allowed stat. Bronco’s first. Right behind the Raiders are these great lines you keep telling me about, Vikings, Seahawks, Bengals, Patriots.

    ————-

Its simple JFB look at those teams records and look at ours.

  249. Just Fire Baby Says:

I would bet that of Barnes, Wiz and Veldheer, at least 2 of the 3, if not all 3, would start for Green Bay tonight.

  250. 1960AutumnWind Says:

“Hue Jackson loved Khalif Barnes, started him every game and ran more running plays to the right than left.”

Hue Jackson thought CP3 was such an awesome QB he gave up a first and a second and saddled us with a terrible Cap hit. Does that mean CP3 is awesome then?

  251. Just Fire Baby Says:

    ******************
I agree with you on Wiz and Veldeer not on Barnes. I do agree that at times last year Barnes was a good run blocker but was inconsistent and not a good pass blocker. Briesel was also garbage this year and that is a wiff on RM’s part and Carlise has simply lost a step. The fact that you do not mention them I think shows even you know there is some weakness there.

  255. Charlie Says:

One of the most misleading stats of all time was our 2006 Raider defense.

Our O and Oline that year was so bad that opposing teams literally shut it down on offense in the second half if they had so much as a 7 point lead knowing we could not scoreon offense.

YOU NEED TO KNOW FOOTBALL AND WATCH THE GAMES.
WE CAN NOT COMPETE WITH PLAYOFF TEAMS IN THE NFL.

It starts with getting some good players especially on the line of scrimmage.

  256. Just Fire Baby Says:

Do you even watch GB games.

    ***************************

He doesn’t force balls, but that pocket is collapsing, all the time.

Tonight he will be running around all game, and still be elite.

  257. Just Fire Baby Says:

The fact that you do not mention them I think shows even you know there is some weakness there.

    ************************************

Man Briesel sucks, I have been on that soapbox since the AZ preseason game. I was one of the first to start ragging on him in here.

Why, while I put up the fight on the O-line thing, I still cede that drafting Warmack would be huge as it represents an instant massive upgrade.

Carlisle is on his last legs, but he is never penalized and really, really good at the 2nd level and in the screen game.

Barnes has started 87 games, for multiple organizations, HC’s and OC’s. He will be a starter somewhere next year, probably here.

I don’t think he is anywhere near as bad as people want to make him out to be.

  258. Just Fire Baby Says:

No former NFL OC is going to relocate to Oakland given our current status and after seeing what happened with Knapp.

The problem with a college guy is needing to command quick respect form a vet like Palmer. Palmer has forgotten more than what many know about the NFL game and what can really work at this level.

    Reggie:

“I want to win up front, and that’s on both sides of the ball, with the big boys. Or with somebody hitting them upside the head. Pass rush. A good push up the middle and somebody he’s going to be scared of. We’re going try and get, guys, we’re going to try and upgrade at a lot of positions, depth-wise, and get some impact players. That’s going to be on me.”

Basically what you have proven here is that if a GM is batschit crazy lucky and hits superbly on every pick, each and every draft has the ability to completely turn a franchise around in epic proportions.

Hands down its 2003 or 2004. Both of those years had we hit on all of them would have made us insanely good. Combined with the fact that we probably keep Woodson and Moss on the team and Sapp doesnt implode due to a winning atmosphere. We would have been stacked.

But as with any theory or opinion, you have to back it up with evidence, and to do that I am going to compare Cliff Branch’s career with that of two receivers from the same era who are already in the hall of fame, Lynn Swann and Bob Hayes.

    Bob Hayes years 11 receptions 371 Yards 7414 Avg 20.0 TD 68 Rings 2

    Lynn Swann Years 9 receptions 336 Yards 5462 AVG 16.3 TD 51 Rings 4

    Cliff Branch Years 13 Rec 501 Yards 8685 Avg 17.3 TD 67 Rings 3

Now any reasonably objective person looking at these statistics could only conclude that these three players are clearly in very much the same group, and if you had to pick one player to be excluded, it would be Hayes, not Branch. Cliff played longer, had considerably more receptions than either, more yards than either, better yards per reception than Swann, and had just one touchdown less than Hayes.

Hue Jackson seems likely to stay with Bengals as an assistant coach
By Jason La Canfora | CBS Sports NFL Insider
    January 12, 2013 2:42 pm ET

Bengals assistant coach Hue Jackson would be next in line to take over the team’s offense if coordinator Jay Gruden gets a head coaching job and could stay in Cincinnati regardless, according to league sources.

Jackson does not have an interview with the Panthers, contrary to a report, and Carolina might end up promoting quarterbacks coach Mike Shula for its coordinator job following the departure of Rob Chudzinski to Cleveland.

The Jets have expressed interest in Jackson for their offensive coordinator opening, but Jackson has not scheduled anything there, either. The opportunity to stay with the Bengals and work with quarterback Andy Dalton seems more attractive than entering the cauldron in New York with a coach on the hot seat and embattled quarterback Mark Sanchez.

Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis is a strong supporter of Jackson and values his work, and teams do not have to allow candidates to interview for coordinator jobs; in fact, many are blocked.

    —————————————————————————–

Yes, most good coaching candidates are blocked from leaving teams. There are a number of coaches who have expiring contracts though. Isn’t the senior bowl and the combine where a lot of coaches go to lobby for jobs?

I know. It sucks doesn’t it. I mean the SF is real good stuff. I’m not sure if ” mumbles” sucks or not.

I’m not sure if DA sucks or not. The early returns say yes but i’m willing (as if i have a choice) to see what he does this coming season.

A HUGE red flag came up with his strict adherence to the zbs when he saw it wasn’t working.

I’m trying to lock onto something I like about him. Him benching McClain was a positive sign as well as dismissing Knapp. The handling of Pryor was messed up too. There was no reason not to have Pryor start the last 3 games imo and in general, I don’t like the half azzed committment to Palmer. Either he’s our QB or he isn’t.

When u have so much invested in a QB like Palmer you give him the weapons he needs to win with. A 5th rd. pick like DMoore and an undrafted rookie who caught 19 passes in college is not much of an arsenal.

The offseason is probably time for Jerry Mac and Stevie Cork to get some vacay.

I have seen both on the 49ers beat since Raiders’ season ended to give the normal 49ers beat writers some time off.

Plus, Mac and Cork are probably still recovering from the weekend after they had to cover a team win a playoff game.

Wish it will be soon for the two to cover a Raider playoff win…

Well, sure. They could cut and paste a bio of Pederson or Trestman in about 30 seconds or so, though.

We keep up with most of the comings and goings as well as they do (that’s not a criticism, it’s just easy to do). It’s just that we like to talk about those things among ourselves and when the blog doesn’t function properly it’s a hassle, is all.

More on the perception the Eagles’ GM is clueless…

According to CBS’ Jason La Canfora, there is a “growing perception” around the league that Eagles GM Howie Roseman is “woefully out of his depth.”
Per La Canfora, numerous “esteemed (coaches)” have advised multiple candidates to replace Andy Reid “not to take the job precisely because of Roseman’s presence there.” There are “rumblings” that Roseman lacks “nuance and foresight,” and is “turning people off with how drunk with power he’s become.” The Eagles are known to have targeted at least 14 candidates, and conducted 10 interviews. Reid, meanwhile, is settling in with the Chiefs.

Hope not, that was his Second mistake, first was hiring him.

If DA wants to be able to forget about the offense and just focus on Defense, then he shouldve stayed a DC.

DA kind of left Knapp holding the bag in terms of the lackluster offense.

I would love to see DA hands-on in all aspects, as well.

  429. r8eray Says:

It will be up to Thompson to decide whether to go on with Hawk and his $5.45 million salary cap number or use a top pick to find a complement to Bishop, who is coming off a torn hamstring and has a lot of hurdles to clear before proving he’s the player he once was.

Thompson also probably will part ways with Woodson, who with a $10 million salary cap number is way too expensive to keep around for a 14-year veteran that has suffered two broken collarbones.

Thompson is not one open to change, but he did commit to rebuilding the defense last spring with the six draft picks and he might need to break his resistance to free agency to turn this defense around. Salary cap space would be available if he dumps Hawk and Woodson.

    I dunno

  513. Just Fire Baby Says:

I know I am about the only one in here who thinks so, but I like the Falcons this weekend.

And if they did win, how impressive would it be to beat the #1 then the #2 scoring defenses on the way to the Super Bowl?

  514. guest123 Says:

You guys complain about having the #3 pick. But at least there aren’t any “can’t miss” guys at the top of the draft. Consider if you will the 2007 draft. Historically bad draft for QB’s. Maybe 2013 is a draft you are glad you avoid if you need a QB.

    JaMarcus Russell
    Brady Quinn
    Kevin Kolb
    John Beck

  515. hwnrdr Says:

I agree Ghost! JFB, I was kinda upset that the Seahawks didn’t pull it off at the end because IMO, they were the best matchup for SF. However, I am not counting the “Dirty Birds” out…I would like to see a Legend bowl, with Ray and Tony going at it!

  517. hwnrdr Says:

  518. guest123 Says:

I disagree with that Falcons call. Niners will smoke them this weekend. Falcons defense gets shredded regularly by mobile running QB’s. Cam Newton torched them this year. Falcons will lose and lose big time.

  519. hwnrdr Says:

Looks like Chargers to hire Mike McCoy

  520. theghostronin79 Says:

Yeah, that would be a good one. I don’t particualrly “LIKE” the Ravens but….Gotta respect Ray. I’d like to see him go out on top. I have to say, I’ve never seen another player with his passion.

  521. guest123 Says:

    Good Morning Hawaiian Raider!

I put my pick in for Björn Werner, 4-3 DE and 3-4 OLB and overall beast sack machine out of FSU. But that’s just my opinion.

Oh boy…really don’t need any more ammo for Brady!

  525. Just Fire Baby Says:

If we stay at #3 I think it should be Werner or Moore. Jarvis Jones might have the best rookie year, but I think his ceiling might be the lowest, with his age, injuries, and really lack of an overall skill-set (he can’t play the run).

Trade down opens that up a bit, and call me crazy, but Te’O should still be in the mix.

Just like I don’t knock Clay Matthews down now for being ineffective in one game against the best O-line in football, I do the same for Te’O.

    That kid can play.

  528. Just Fire Baby Says:

Funny that it is Ayanbedajo or whatever using those terms, because he had a huge SI article about him and his role in the Gay and Lesbian community.

  529. hwnrdr Says:

Yup, no to Martz and Olson…JFB, I have to agree with you…I stil wouldn’t mind Te’o. He had a bad game, but he was always around the ball! Gotta give him that!

  530. guest123 Says:

    Good call on Te’0

But it would have to a precipitous fall for Reggie to get too excited about trading up for him. We have needs all over, and he’d be a nice complement to Phillip Weaver if we somehow can keep him.

  531. Just Fire Baby Says:

I am all in on wanting Martz.

He has had the most recent success.

2010 Bears team were playing for the #1 seed in weeks 15 and 16, and put up 40 and 38 points.

First round of the playoffs, 35 points on the Seachickens.

Three straight must-win money games with 35+ points, with no Brandon Marshall or just about any talent on the O-line.

  535. hwnrdr Says:

Yeah but JFB…unless we fix our lines and upgrade our receivers, do you think Martz’s system will work? And if they go with Martz, do you think they will trade Pryor?

  536. guest123 Says:

Martz most recent experience was total chaos for the QB. Last time anyone asked Jay Cutler about Martz, he told them to tell Martz to F himself. Add that to the fact he’s 2 years removed from the game, and the game is now moving toward the pistol set with running QB’s like Kaepernick, Wilson, RG3, Cam… I think Martz is a dinosaur of another era. Like if you asked Buddy Ryan to come out of retirement to coach defense. Some guys need to stay retired.

  537. hwnrdr Says:

    You are Crazy!

  542. guest123 Says:

I remember when we drafted Wiz II in the second round. Al foolishly traded away the first to NE and left us waiting till halfway thru the 2nd. Meanwhile we all were hoping that Kaepernick would somehow fall to us. The Raiders scouting dept was all over that, but no ammo. Kaepernick is the future of QB’s in this league.

The Read-option out of the pistol formation is the perfect neutralizer of the pass rush. Watch the LB’s frozen in their tracks on the exchange/fake exchange with the RB. It puts them in no mans land defending the pass or getting to the QB. Huge running lanes open up and if you have a QB that can pass accurately and can run, it’s a lethal formation. Defenses haven’t solved it yet. Maybe one day they will, but for now, this new wave is going to tear up defenses for a while to come.

  543. Raider O Says:

Te’o is big and slow, had issues shedding blocks against good talent, and he couldn’t tackle well. Sounds familiar?

  603. guest123 Says:

I could care less about the combine. I care a lot more about game tape and playmaking ability than 40 times, bench reps, and broad jumps. Even pro days are not telling of how a player executes under duress. Can’t wait for the draft though.

  604. Purvisman/Intrepid/Eternal Optimist Says:

Gotta jury rig all my automatic llama waterers(10 of ‘em) to dribble so they don’t freeze up without wasting too much $water$. They still freeze over so I have to go chip the ice off in the morning. Six days in a row now. Over an inch thick Sunday morning. Better than burst pipes and hand watering, tho’. Should warm up tomorrow, I hope.

Did that to my right ankle July 5, 2001. Stood up, put my foot down and went down. Zero support. Grabbed the fence and stood up again and looked at my foot flopping around like it wasn’t even connected. Doc didn’t say compound fracture, he said shattered. Had to steal some bone from my hip to have something to screw back together. Must have done a good job ’cause I’ve had zero problems with it.

I have been juicing for 15 days, never felt better, and I have gone down 2 belt sizes already and 20lbs.

Mean green juice = 5-6 Kale leaves, handful of spinach, a pinch of parsely, half a cucumber, thumb of ginger, a carrot, a celery stalk and a green apple.

I drink 2-3 of those a day, and I do one fruit juice for breakfast. Eat a good dinner and I am all set. The only sh1tty part is lugging my juicer back and forth to work every day. I am going to buy a second one just for the office when I get my bonus next month.

Yep, I understand all that, Bcz. I’ve eaten plenty of sushi. What I was saying is its typically raw or indeed cooked, but mostly served cold or lukewarm in either case, and served as a single piece all by itself and not as part of a larger dish.. I know I am about the only one in here who thinks so, but I like the Falcons this weekend.

And if they did win, how impressive would it be to beat the #1 then the #2 scoring defenses on the way to the Super Bowl?

I like ‘em too, JFB. That win against the Seahawks was the type of win that gets teams over the hump.

    ++++++++

Possibly. Nothing is set at all here as the decision has yet to be made on the head coach. But a source said that candidates Darrell Bevell and

    **Marc Trestman**

are both at least open to the option of retaining Marinelli and perhaps some additional members of the defensive staff. It’s not known if Bruce Arians is thinking the same way and it can’t be ruled out.

General manager Phil Emery was clear that he planned on letting his new head coach do what they considered was best. Some believe a clean break from the previous regime is the best move to make. Others like the idea of maintaining continuity – as best as possible – for a defense that has played at a high level. But the defense will not be the same without Lovie Smith, the man who ran the show on that side of the ball.

It will be interesting to see what happens and no doubt the assistants that remain under contract to the Bears are anxious to see what shakes out

I suppose it depends on your own goals. Juicing is a supercharged shot of exactly what your body needs to perform it’s functions at peak effeciency. The end of the documentary basic comes back to eating healthy, having restraint and making sound choices. Moderation is the key in everything we do.

Seattle is so set it’s ridiculous.

They have 10 picks coming up in the draft, and their QB is set for awhile. Is it going too far to call Russell Wilson “elite” at this point?

Also, if they get rid of their backup QB (Flynn) they save another 10 mill they can use to beef up other areas.

The only hope that anyone has of Seattle going backward is if defenses “figure out” Wilson. Otherwise they should be loaded for awhile.

I am not certain of their cap situation though, but it sure must be nice to have a franchise QB fall into their lap.

Seattle isn’t strapped by Flynn’s salary so much that have to move him. With Wilson on a rookie contract for at least another two seasons (before he can renegotiate his contract), the overall expense to Seattle’s quarterback position is still reasonably affordable. That being said, backup quarterbacks aren’t usually paid $7.25 million either, which is what Flynn is due in 2013 (although only $2 million is guaranteed).

  742. guest123 Says:

Flynn has some trade value even if they have to eat some of his salary. The defense is furious. Wilson is for real. I like his game and instincts better than RG3. They need some WR’s but they have a lot of picks. I’m surprised they lost to ATL. They should have ran more clock before going ahead. A couple of weak QB sneaks would have milked the clock. Would have been fun to see them in the SB vs the cheatriots.

Put Dwyane Bowe and a 2nd rd WR with Streater and Ford, and Palmer would be a top 10 QB.

Pryor wouldn’t see the field for 4 years or so.

Wonder if Cleveland would trade a #1 to bring him back home?

And then we’ll go on the avg 35 points a game, but give up 42 on the D.

    Trade down, draft Warmack.

Draft a WR with pick #2.
    $$$$$$$$$$$$$&

Who needs Pass rushers and CBs? NTs are overrated too? lol
    You are killing me dude.
Since we have a few young WRs, why not sign a solid vet, and draft pass rushers since its not a good year for WRs?
I agree that we need help on offense too, but we still have CP, DMC, and Reece. We have no impact players on defense.
IMHO, Reece can be an impact player, if we use him right. He can be our A Hernandez/ Pats.

To the Patriots, or any of these top offenses, yes we might. Just like the other top defenses like Houston, Denver, Baltimore, etc did these past couple of weeks.

We don’t have a 2nd (assuming you mean with trade down), but I’m surprised you are willing to invest a 2nd round pick in a WR with Bowe, Moore, Streater, and Ford on the roster.

I really only believe in Streater, O.

    My dream scenario, O.

Trade back to 8′ish. Pick up a 2nd rd pick in the process.

Trade Pryor to Cleveland for their #1 or Palmer to the Jets for their #1.

    Draft Warmack at 8′ish.

    Draft a RDE/OLB with the other #1

Draft a WR with the 2nd rd pick.

Im thinking moving back 5 spots would net both our lost picks….Moving DMAC if it happens might mean an additional mid-rd pick….I wouldnt mind landin Zach Ertz either…..Myers isnt that good.

If we get our 5th rd pick back I would use it in a second on Ace Sanders from South Carolina….punt/kick return problems solved….Trindan Holliday 2.0….and can play slot!

I am not certain of their cap situation though, but it sure must be nice to have a franchise QB fall into their lap.

called good drafting. didn’t fall into lap, they picked him. kaep didn’t fall into whiners lap, they moved up and drafted him. we drafted dhb. we drafted russell. nuff said
