Raiders interview Martz for off. coord. vacancy

The Raiders interviewed Mike Martz for their offensive coordinator vacancy in an attempt to find an upgrade over the fired Greg Knapp, a person familiar with the situation said.
They also spoke with Juan Castillo about the prospect of taking over for fired offensive line coach Frank Pollack.
To this point, the Raiders have not released any information about their search for replacements for Knapp, Pollack, special teams coordinator Steve Hoffman and linebackers coach Johnny Holland.
All four were fired the day after the Raiders completed a 4-12 season, their 10th straight season without a winning record.
Martz last worked in the league as the Chicago Bears offensive coordinator in 2011. He was fired after a two-year stint. He was the 49ers offensive coordinator in 2008 and served in the same capacity for the Detroit Lions in 2006-07.
Raiders coach Dennis Allen said in his year-end news conference that he isn’t in a hurry to find an offensive coordinator.
“I don’t have a time frame for getting somebody in,” Allen said. “I want to make sure we get the right guy, and however long that takes for us to get the right guy, that’s how long that that takes.”
Allen also said he isn’t averse to working with an offensive coordinator that has experience as a head coach. Martz coached the Rams from 2000-05 and solidified his reputation as a guy that can get the most out of his offense.
“I’ll be comfortable with a guy I feel like gives us the best chance to be successful in all areas,” Allen said.
Under Knapp this season, the Raiders struggled establishing a consistent running attack and scoring points.
Pollack and Knapp came under fire for their implementation of the zone-blocking scheme upon their arrival last offseason.
Castillo was the Eagles offensive line coach for 13 seasons before then-coach Andy Reid promoted him to defensive coordinator before the 2011 season. The move backfired and resulted in the Eagles firing Castillo in October of this season.

Kiss my white a$$,Priest, you jerk. You are a damn liar.Go back and show one comment where I have dissed Pryor.I made my feelings known from the beginning-sit him for 3-4 years so he could develop and learn.I could kick myself for backing you all these years.I’m not afraid to admit I was wrong and most on here had you pegged.

OK! had not read this Lefty12, So you want me to kiss your WHITE ass huh? OK that is cool at least we know now where we stand……..thanks for letting me know.

    ===========================================

Watching him live I thought he was terrible. Coming back and having the posters here say how well he played, I thought maybe I saw this wrong. So, I watched the tape. And he was terrible. Again, 8 of 22 for 79 yards in “real football time”, just is not good. Yards per attempt is a big stat for me. RGIII is throwing for 8,9,10 yards PER ATTEMPT. I would take half that. But less than 4 yards an attempt prior to garbage time? There is just nothing here to wrap my beliefs around.

  • Priesttj12

I’m all about winning a 4-12 record doesn’t sit well with me and I couldn’t care less about the damn excuses and blaming a dead man. Either you get it done or you don’t………..period

For some reason it’s really hard for emo fans to comprehend:

“Again, 8 of 22 for 79 yards in “real football time”, just is not good.”

And that’s a career norm: low %, INTs, fumbles

  • Twinkle

And as far as this color sh!t goes…..this is a black football team….just in case anyone here hadn’t noticed. Our late and great owner demanded this.(I am white btw)It is why Houston had to play 2 games a year in Oakland.AD dog bless him would not bow down to having our players sit at the back of bus.He is why I love his team because he was a far greater man than I could ever be.

  • dr_robert

Throwing for 4k yards may be easier these days but still only 11 guys did it. And Palmer did it in 14 games with Brandon Myers, denarius Moore, and Dhb. Say those three names again. Now look at the receivers for the other ten 4k guys. And NO new wavers did it.

But guys see 46% and a 70.8 rating and fall in love.

    Hilarious.

PREDICTION: IF Pryor ever does get an extended chance to start, whether injury or whatever, and he totally sucks, and gets benched?

PRIEST WILL DISAPPEAR FOR A LONG WHILE, JUST LIKE HE DID WHEN JAMARCUS WENT BELLYUP, AND THEN RETURN AND BLAME THE COACHES FOR PRYORS FAILURE, EXACTLY LIKE HE DID WHEN JAMARCUS BECAME THE BUST OF THE CENTURY.

    oh..almost forgot…PERIOD.

Because you don’t have the sense enough to understand it was his first start and he had zero chemistry with his rec’s but that doesn’t matter he’s supposed to make miracles without any preparation worth talking about. The kid got zero reps through week 16 yet you expect a HOF performance. Not only is that ignorant it’s plain embicilic.

  • dr_robert

Priest thinks 4-12 means remove ur best player and replace him with a “project”. Welcome to 0-16!

  • lefty12

Priest, you’ve accused me of wanting the kid to fail-false.You’ve accused me of being against him because I have an agenda-false.You now accuse me of criticizing every throw-false.I did say in the SD game his passes floated and everything he threw looked like a duck-generalization of a games worth of work. The only reason i mentioned Pryor was he was the topic of conversation because we finally got to see him in game action.I never broke down all of JC’s throws.I criticized him because I didn’t/don’t think he is a very good QB.I did and still do think Palmer is a good QB.He was hindered this year because of Knapp. If he is kept and doesn’t play better next year I’ll criticize him as is warranted.

  • dr_robert

Priest–u think u saw nfl quality throws from Pryor? Seriously?

  • Priesttj12

    Seymour Bush

Go back and watch Palmers first action without chemistry with the rec’s and see who played better. he threw 3 picks and one was a pick6 he played horrible for his first 3 games learning his teammates and the offense yet he was experienced.

YOU expect a basic rookie getting his first start to be sharp and on point. That is the problem I have with all you guys it’s a double standard when the QB is black

10 straight years of not having a winning season.

  • Priesttj12

Yeah because there is a double standard here and it constantly goes on. Make excuses for Palmer doing absolutely NOTHING to win games yet criticise a QB who does perform.

Sure Palmers passes LOOK great they are very asthetically pleasing but we don’t win jack. So who the hell cares what his passes look like. He loses games………………..period

  • Priesttj12

Lefty12, We don’t HAVE TIME or him to SIT and learn anymore we can’t win games. Don’t you get it if Palmer were winning games NO ONE WOULD BE COMPLAINING!!!

WE went 4-12 with him making 11mill we ca go 4-12 with Pryor learning why wait and lose when we can get started and win………..what about that don’t you get?

If Palmer can win games I’m all for it……..period

  • dr_robert

Imagine ur a salesman for a car lot. In fact ur the best salesman there. U have managed to sell at a rate that is average for top salesmen in the area even though u are selling Yugos. Ur having a a sales meeting and the boss is reading customer comments. He says that changes have to be made cuz a lot of complaints have been coming in about a particular salesman. Ur nodding ur head, thinking ok, it’s about time. Then he points at u! He says people want u out and he’s gonna replace u with the new kid who has a hard time remembering the names if the cars. U say “but I’m the leading salesman. I have a sh1tty product. And no support.” He says yeah but this kid sold a car last week. U say “yeah but it was at the end of the night and he was the only one here and he almost screwed it up.” And I sold 22 cars in 14 days.

Then u realize that the kid is Asian. And the customer complaints are all signed by Asian people.

  • alex7

I think 4,000 yards moves the ball quite well, and 22 TDs puts it in the end zone often enough to help win.

Unfortunately the D still lacks talent.

Teams and organizations lose games, not one player.

    Same since 2003.

  • alex7

lol at priest and QBs winning games…

    while Pryor is 0-fer.

  • alex7

Do you realize how HARD it is to complete fewer than half your throws when you’re only averaging 4 yards per attempt?

I mean, that takes serious effort.

And he did it nearly 7 times at Ohio State too.

Plamer had chances to win games and either didn’t or couldn’t get it done. I don’t care how pretty his passes are or how many yards he throws for if he cannot lead us to win games. Get his ass outta here, I don’t care about the excuses and the wherefores Jason Campbell wasn’t afforded thos excuses and neither wil Pryor so why should he be given a pass?

If Pryor starts every bonehead fool in here will criticize every thing he does even if he wins. But Palmer was praised for losing. Sick of the double standard if you wnat to criticise JC do the same to Palmer………….period

Think about how little sense that makes.

  • RaidO

What team would take Palmer as a starter now?

The jets? Cardinals? Not the Cheifs because Reid likes mobile QB’s.

Palmer would be a backup somewhere.

lol Priestt :) You don’t see NFL TEAMS paying stat-kids to help in their front offices?

Are you not aware this is happening? MLB and now NFL?

none of our starters on O…

    NONE…

would start on these playoff teams. Whats your point? We still have starters and backups.

  • mcfadden20.

Wins and losses are team things, Ds and Special teams make huge differences, D’s can stop the other team deep in their own territory and force a punt, and special teams can take that punt, and even if they gain about 14 yards and bring it up to midfield, instead of 4 yards and at 40 yard line, that makes it more closer to field goal and less yards to go to get TD, n also late game heroics only happen when you have good WR’s , Seattle’s secondary is really good, do you guys think Matt Ryan has those late game heroics if he had our Wide Receivers instead of White, JOnes. Gonzalez? and the same Oline? most of those pass would have been turned into ints

  • raidertalk

Oh Man Mike Martz (sorry just saw the news). That guy will get Palmer killed with this offensive line. Mcfadden couldn’t even get passed the line of scrimmage with out being hit and Palmer had one of the least amount of seconds to throw the ball. Seven step drop, would KILL this offense.

  • Priesttj12

Palmer is talented RaidO his problem is he just doesn’t manage games well. he can throw it with the best of them he can read defenses with the best of them. He has elite skillset, his isuue is he doesn’t play well in the clutch when it’s winning time.

These guys can say whatever they want but I know what a QB can do for an entire team. He can change the dynamic for an entire team. That is what we traded for that is what I expected to see this year. And Palmer did NOT perform to expectations………….and that is all there is to it………………period

  • alex7

    RaidO

Has a QB never restructured a contract that your best logic is just to cut him…right now?

you DON’T know what a QB can do for a team.

You thought Jamarcus would win. You were wrong. You have zero credibility.

Games, as we ALL KNOW, often are decided by a kicker making or missing a kick, or a defense holding or blowing a lead. The QB is sitting on the sideline with little control over the final W or L very often.
