Callahan takes umbrage with Brown’s accusation
By Steve Corkran
Tuesday, January 22nd, 2013 at 11:35 pm in Oakland Raiders.
Here’s the story filed by beat writer Jerry McDonald about former Raiders wide receiver Tim Brown saying that former coach Bill Callahan, in effect, sabotaged the Raiders’ chances of beating the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Super Bowl at the end of the 2002 season. The story contains a portion of Callahan’s response to Brown’s strong assertion:
If memories of being pummeled by Jon Gruden in Super Bowl XXXVII weren’t painful enough for former Raiders coach Bill Callahan, there is now this: former players implying that he might have sabotaged his own team in the 48-21 loss to Tampa Bay.
Tim Brown, the Raiders’ nine-time Pro Bowl selection and third-time nominee for the Pro Football Hall of Fame, said Monday on Sirius XM Radio that he believed Callahan “sabotaged” the Super Bowl by altering the game plan 36 hours before kickoff. Brown based his claim, on part, because of the relationship Callahan shared with Gruden, who had hired Callahan to be the Raiders offensive coordinator.
“We all called it sabotage, because Callahan and Gruden was good friends,
Tim Brown (81) says former Raiders coach Bill Callahan may have sabotaged Oakland’s chances of winning Super Bowl XXXVII against Tampa Bay 10 years ago. (AP Photo/Mike Fiala) and Callahan had a big problem with the Raiders, hated the Raiders, and only came because Gruden made him come,” Brown said.
Hall of Fame wide receiver Jerry Rice, speaking by phone with ESPN on Tuesday, sided with Brown, adding, “I was very surprised he waited until the last second and a lot of the players, they were surprised also. So, in a way, maybe because he didn’t like the Raiders he decided that, ‘Hey, look, maybe we should sabotage this a little bit and let Jon Gruden go out and win one.’ ”
Callahan, who currently is the Dallas Cowboys’ offensive coordinator, released a statement Tuesday night, saying, “I am shocked, saddened and outraged by Tim Brown’s allegations and Jerry Rice’s support of those allegations.
“Any

suggestion that I would undermine the integrity of the sport that I love and dedicated my life to, or dishonor the commitment I made to our players, coaches and fans, is flat out wrong,” Callahan said in the statement. “I think it would be in the best interests of all including the game America loves that these allegations be retracted immediately.”
Brown said Callahan’s game-plan switch left center Barret Robbins so disturbed it may have been the catalyst to his infamous trip to Mexico on
Former Oakland Raiders coach Bill Callahan, (Jim Gensheimer/Mercury News) Friday, returning in a haze of alcohol and mental illness the night before the game.
Other players on the 2002 team rebutted Brown in various radio interviews, including quarterback Rich Gannon, linebacker Bill Romanowski, offensive tackle Lincoln Kennedy and fullback Zach Crockett, who is on the Raiders’ scouting staff.
“I like Tim Brown. Great guy, great teammate,” Romanowski told ESPN. “But he is delusional to think that Bill Callahan would give up the biggest opportunity of his life … to be a Super Bowl-winning coach. I cannot even comprehend why something like that would come out of his mouth.”
Kennedy tweeted that Callahan “got out-coached and a lot of us (including) myself were out played. It happens. I just wished it didn’t happen in the biggest game.”
Gannon, speaking on his Sirus XM radio show, said: “He was a good football coach, I think he’s a good man. We had too much invested in trying to become world champions. We all wanted to win. I’m sure Bill Callahan was one of those as well.”
The genesis of planning to turn a team that threw a club-record 619 times in 2002 into a running team for the Super Bowl was a 45-0 win over Tampa Bay in 1999. In that game, Napoleon Kaufman gained 122 yards and Tyrone Wheatley had 111 against a smaller Tampa Bay front.
Why would the Raiders revert to their passing personality so late in the week?
While Brown said Robbins “begged” Callahan not to change the game plan, Kennedy, also a starting member of the offensive line, told 95.7 The Game that he knew nothing about Robbins having any such issues.
Crockett told ESPN the game plan changed after Robbins went AWOL because backup center Adam Treu was not as formidable as a power blocker.
In a text to ESPN, former Raiders fullback Jon Ritchie said, “What we practiced during the week is not what we ran in that game. It could have been due to Barret’s absence.”
Gannon and Kennedy recalled having to abandon the running game partially because of game circumstance. The Raiders gained 18 yards on 10 first-half rushes and trailed 20-3 at halftime.
On their second possession, the Raiders ran Crockett twice into the line, were faced with third-and-long, and punted. Later, a first-down run by Charlie Garner resulted in a 1-yard loss, putting the Raiders in passing situation.
Gannon said there was talk of “being physical and running the football” going into the game but also said, “I don’t know that the game plan really changed … I think we came out, tried to run the football early and didn’t have a lot of success.”
Kennedy said he remembered Callahan saying as the Bucs took command, “We’re going to have to pass to get back into this.”
As for Brown’s version of things, Gannon said, “We often sit in rooms 53 of us, and the coach addresses the team, and not everybody gets the same message. Not everybody hears it the same way.”
Gannon, who threw five interceptions and had three returned for touchdowns, feels the blame falls on everyone who took part for the Raiders in Super Bowl XXXVII.
“If you got on that plane Monday in Oakland and flew to San Diego to participate in the Super Bowl, whether you’re the owner, the head coach, the quarterback or the guy that passed out the tickets, you’re responsible for what took place down there.”

January 22nd, 2013 at 11:36 pm
Tim Brown vs Joe Bugel and OC Ray Perkins, 1997:
“The game against the Chiefs was so frustrating for the team that quarterback Jeff George and wide receiver Tim Brown, a perennial Pro Bowl selection and another outspoken player, began to call their own plays, ignoring Perkins. It was a mutiny, pure and simple, and it didn’t stop when the game ended.” – NY Times, Dec. 14
Tim Brown, 1995 interview:
interviewer: “he’s not a big fan of personnel executive Mike Lombardi. At one point, Brown detoured into a scathing, unsolicited critique about how Lombardi, and not Davis, is the reason people don’t want to play or coach for the Raiders.
A surprised and perplexed Lombardi had no comment.”
Tim Brown, 2013:
Disrespects Marc Trestman’s hire by the Bears by pointing out Trestman gave Jerry Rice a few more targets than Brown back in 2001.
Tim Brown is an attention-you-know-what.

I valued your opinion. I know u used to work as a scout for the Raiders so I honestly wanted to hear your opinion. Sorry I asked.

I’m so desperate for something to get pumped up about with this team I was hoping that one of his biggest proponents on this blog would offer some insight, or relate something I really hadn’t seen with Pryor that might infuse more exitement about the prospect of him being our qb.
That was the impetus for my inquiry to Priest about him.
If anyone thinks I would be down on having a franchise qb playing for the Raiders they have no clue about me at all.

It’s funny to me. I listened to the Reggie interview. If u don’t gave an agenda and aren’tt hanging on every word and then willing to bend it to ur purposes, u would think Reggie said two things.
1) he’s thinking of using Pryor in “imaginative” ways. Like wr. He said they need to figure how they could use him “best”.
2) he’s willing to give Pryor the offseason and preseason to make a case that he could “u know, take over”. This is the part that got everyone going. Listen to it again. He’s saying “could he EVENTUALLY take over”.
I like the kid but he’s not an nfl qb. And I don’t mean a “traditional qb”. I mean he’s not a new wave qb either.

Hey, like it or not, racist claims hit a nerve with most of us. That’s ok. Idiots who feel they aren’t doing well in exchanges resort to racist claims as a diversion reply. It keeps the topic off of jamarcus being a fat lazy slob. Or off of Pryor’s horrible throws.
I read some of the dumbest comments last few months, on this board, than I’ve read anywhere.
Someone actually stated that Reg and Allen didn’t play pryor because they knew he would be a star, and would show them up, lol.

I was hoping martz was the hire. Olson doesn’t excite me. I suppose he’s ok. That’s kinda how I’m feeling about the whole staff right now. I’m just not feeling inspired. I’m hoping to see moves that well….move me. And soon.
I really wish we had 2nd rounder. Then we could be sure to get a potential stud at #3. And then go from there. But we need more than that. So trading down is a big possibility.
It’s just gonna kinda suck to grab a big time pick and them basically have the same draft we had last year. I mean I think we got some good players. But it’s hard to hand ur hat on the bergstroms and burrises of the world. Maybe good players but not exactly game changers.
It sounds to me like we won’t be big players in FA either. So much for a quick turnaround.

Hey, seriously, think about it. Very wise of Reg to say Pryor will get a shot (didn’t see the transcripts. did anyone?)in training camp, to start.
(It’s not like every camp doesn’t pretty much give all their players a shot to see how they do. it’s what training camp is about. It’s how Russell Wilson out performed the qb the team just signed for a big contract)
At the end of camp no more excuses. No more whining. No more crying. Who ever wins the starting spot, is the starter. And then all this crap will go away. kind of, lol.
Hey, if pRYOR wins the job, great. Means he outplayed Palmer. If he doesn’t, the the racist slobs can’t keep running their racist BS.

Mcf20– the kid can throw heat. Not big. I coached him in football too. Was a good little DB. Layed the wood for his size. I mean he’s 19 and he’s like 5′10″ and maybe 165.
But he’s pitching in college and 90+ for strikes will get attention.
Nice family. Good kid. I hope does well. He and his dad made an effort to come talk to me. That’s the kinda people they are. And we go to the same church. So there’s that.

It might not be his last.
Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie said Tuesday night at the Senior Bowl that Pryor will have a chance to compete for the first-string job this summer in training camp.
“He needs to see if he can take a game over in the preseason, make some plays and carry out a game plan,” McKenzie told me and co-host Jim Miller on Sirius XM NFL Radio. “Let him compete. That’s what it’s all about. If it looks like he can help us win, at the end of the day, that’s what it’s all about. That’s what we want.””–Fox Sports.

Timmy Brown is a loose cannon that needs to learn to STFU.
He should retract his statements about Callahan ‘intentionally’ losing the SB, ’sabotaging’ the team, being the cause of Robbins’ losing his mind and going nuts in Tijuana, and wanting to give the SB win to Gruden.
This is slanderous garbage, and an immediate retraction and apology from BROWN is required.
Same thing goes for JERRY RICE.
Did Callahan change the game plan at the last moment ?
Probably.
Did Timmy and some other players disagree with such a change and think it adversely affected the chances of the Raids winning ?
Obvuously.
But there’s a tremendous leap from disagreeing with what Callahan supposedly did – to flat out accusing Callahan of intentionally throwing the game to Gruden, wanting to lose due to a hatred of the Raiders, and blaming BC for Robbins going psycho south of the border.
Let me ask the long term Raider fans here a few simple questions – the answers to which – should be obvious and easily show that TIM BROWN is an AZZ CLOWN.
Is it even remotely possible that Callahan changed the game plan at the very last moment WITHOUT AL DAVIS knowing about it and approving/consenting to it ?
Even if you think this is possible (and if you do, you don’t know the RAIDS or AL DAVIS)…
Do you think it’s even remotely possible that DAVIS BRINGS BACK CALLAHAN the subsequent year if there was any credence whatsoever to TIMMY BROWNCLOWN’S accusations, insinuations and allegations ?
C’mon people, use your brains.
Callahan was surely out-coached and if he changed the game plan at the very last moment made a very serious error – but there’s no phucking way he intentionally lost the game.
End of story.

Raiders willing to let Pryor compete for starting job
PFT
With Carson Palmer injured, Raiders quarterback Terrelle Pryor got what appeared to be a throwaway start in the final game of the regular season.
But it might have been a preview of coming attractions.
Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie told Alex Marvez and Jim Miller on Sirius XM NFL Radio that Pryor would be given a chance to compete for the starting job.
“He needs to see if he can take a game over in the preseason, make some plays and carry out a game plan,” McKenzie said. “Let him compete. That’s what it’s all about. If it looks like he can help us win, at the end of the day, that’s what it’s all about. That’s what we want.”
While Pryor looked raw in his short time on the field last year, there’s no denying he presents a more intriguing option than the rest of the Raiders depth chart.
Palmer is exactly what he is, a good-enough starter who has never won a playoff game. Backup Matt Leinart’s an unrestricted free agent, whom no one would miss.
Pryor at least has potential, as he demonstrated by throwing for two scores and running for another in his one start.
“It was good to see him go in and implement a game plan,” McKenzie said. “He carried it out, played the game through and showed us what he can do. He definitely flashed some things that we’re going to try and see what we can do with him in the offseason. . . .
“That’s fine to be a great athlete. We’ve got a lot of great athletes who can run. I want them to be great football players. I want them to take their game plan and execute it. Just make plays.”
For the franchise that gave us “Just Win, Baby,” Palmer didn’t do it enough, with three of his four victories over the 2-14 Chiefs and Jaguars last year. So even if Pryor doesn’t work out, the Raiders really don’t have much to lose in giving him a chance.

I know I said kaepernick was a perfect blend of white brains and black athleticism. But I made a point of stating I was anticipating what a racist might say.
I did name my only son after Marcus Allen. Is that racist?
Some guys don’t really understand complexity in humor. That’s why arrested developments and futurama were never hits. But full house was.

One way to dismantle that argument is if Pryor competes and wins the starting job.

Cowboys gave Ryan Leaf his second chance, might as well run the table with horrendous draft busts and bring in Jamarcus.

Interesting.
I dont think the fact that Kapernick bascially just lit up the playoffs had anything to do with that, do you?
********************************************************
Uh, no. Pryor will play based on his own merits, not what somebody else does.
That was Al’s problem. Take Cliff Branch as an example. There was only one, but Al spent god knows how many draft choices and free agent dollars on guys that could run fast, with the idea that, “well, Cliff was fast and a game-changer. This guy’s fast too, and should be able to do the same thing.”
Terrelle Pryor is big, strong, and fast like Kaepernick. That doesn’t mean he can do the same things on the field that Kaepernick can. It doesn’t mean he can’t, but there’s more to it than just measureables and what somebody else did that happened to be from the same mold, so to speak.

““You know what I don’t get. There are a lot of smart people around this league. I’m surprised they have not figured it out yet. If you want to have success, why not go get a guy who has done it already and is willing to do what it takes. Why not pay a guy like (Falcons GM) Thomas Dimitroff or (Niners GM) Trent Baalke a little extra money to be your president. It’s happened with a lot of coaches — Mike Holmgren and Bill Parcells. Teams will pay these head coaches $6 (million) or $7 million. Why not go pluck the guys who have done the best job stacking rosters and building the culture in the locker room and finding the right talent? They have proven they can run the ship. You can put a plan in place to delegate authority on the other side of the building. If you can find the right coach and find the right quarterback, you have a chance every year. If I’m an owner looking for someone to run my franchise, I’m looking for the guy who has proven he can fill those roles with the right people. That’s the key to this whole thing.”

You’re right about that. He was put in a pro-set at Ohio St., then ad libbed…but the good thing he displayed was that he kept his eyes down the field. My only concern is that he lobs passes over the top rather than having that nice flat trajectory that can cut threw the wind – He’s got a ways to go. It was good that Reggie McKenzie just admitted he has a chance to shut up all these false opinions like “they’re trying not to use him ” . People were saying that by the half-way point of the season.

Reggie inherited a bunch of food that had expired and/or tasted like crap
then he hired a bunch of douches from McDonalds to prepare the meal

@ Rockstar: The food was expired and tasted crappy, but a good chef knows how to season that schit to mask the flavor so that at least it tastes edible. worse ingredients plus worse-er cooks is just yucky football. Why am I thinking about Papa Johns?
January 23rd, 2013 at 5:52 am
TP being a legit starting QB, on a 3rd round picks salary, would immediately pull us out of salary cap hell.
January 23rd, 2013 at 5:53 am
I was thinking about last season, and how the only way we were able to beat the Jags last year was because Henne came in the game and looked about as prepared as Goethel did long-snapping.

January 23rd, 2013 at 6:01 am
I know right, JFB? Not sold on that hire, and it was my worst nightmare when I heard his name mentioned…but I will give it til the pre-season to judge! Can he bring back the Rams success to us, or will it be Detroit! Hoping for the best!
January 23rd, 2013 at 6:02 am
The same as it did when Cam newton made them look bad and RG3 who JFB said wouldn’t be higher than a 3rd rnd pick.
*************************
First off Priest, I said 2nd round and not 3rd round. And do you remember why I said that? Because I didn’t feel he could stay healthy in the NFL.
That’s what wrong with you, and plenty of others on here, you are so insecure that you are so desperate to score a blog “victory”, you call the fight after the first round.
So while you and Mistic were running around beating your chest in October about RGIII, I sat back and let the fight play itself out. And guess what, it is still early in the fight.
However, I said RGIII would never stay healthy, and so far, I am right. But do you see me beating my chest about it? Reason being is that it is his ROOKIE YEAR, plenty of time still to play out.
Same with TP. I am sure if/when he starts another game, if he plays moderately well, you will be in here telling us all you liked him before anyone else, using all caps and exclamation points, talking about his greatness and bringing up racism and all that.
And it will be 2 games into his NFL career, lol.

Henne actually played better than Gabbert down the stretch and won the winning job. Olson had some success with the Marc Bulger led Rams, going 8-8, then crashed to 3-13 the following season. The Jags had protection issues, thats why their passing was bad, and so did the 2006 Rams – Bulger basically had his career shortened and he went to a back-up after being a Pro Bowler.

Yahoo! Sports has learned that Russell’s mentor through this whole process is former NFL wide receiver Mike Clayton, who like Russell is a LSU product. Over the next couple months, Russell will be training with Brian Martin of TEST Football Academy and TEST West, whose draft products include Joe Flacco and Patrick Peterson among others. In addition, former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jeff Garcia (quarterback technique training), Olympian Ato Boldon (speed training and analysis), Dr. Robert Price of Elite Minds (mental and psychological analysis), former NFL wide receiver Quinn Early (disciplinary work and focus), former New York Giants quarterback Scott Brunner (reading defenses and classroom sessions) and NFL Hall of Fame running back Marshall Faulk (reading defenses) will work as part of the team trying to reclaim the quarterback’s promise.

Agreed. Of the 3 SB winning teams, they did what was thought at the time to be unthinkable. A wild card team win a super bowl was just unheard of. Nobody gave us a chance back in 80. The Eagles were supposed to demolish us. Rod Martin, Kenny King came up huge. I was at that wildcard game against Houston when we shut them down 27-7 and Lester Hayes got that late pick 6 to seal the game. The Coliseum concrete felt like an earthquake that day. I love that 80 team the best.

Hey, thanks a lot Tim Brown. Let’s (unnecessarily) rehash the events that took place 10 years ago on probably the worst day of my life. Seeing Chucky dressed in Pewter and his team carrying the day….(choking back chunks of mini puke in my throat as I type that.) Anyways…
I think at this point, a)it doesn’t matter anymore/who cares? b) it’s all he said / she said, but, this is what I do know, think:
- Chucky’s last game as a Raider was the Tuck Rule. The following season Chucky pedal stomped us in the Super Bowl and that was our last play off game to date. We’ve NEVER been the same since.
- I’m ironically almost relieved in all of this that I now know that we were gonna run the ball and use our physical advantage against TB. (I wasn’t going to pat myself on the back believing that I was the ONLY one who felt that was the best way to go at the Bucs! lol)
- I’ve posted before and I’ll say it now. While our aerial/passing attack was something to marvel at (#hashtag the Pittsburgh game in Week #2)…we fell too in love with it and that was our undoing.
- I do know that if we play any team but the Bucs with our former Coach in the Super Bowl, we win. We would have KILLED the Eagles.
- What were Bill Callahan’s intentions that day? We’ll never know. But….
- Chucky would obviously know our playbook and roster pretty well. Even a stooge like Callahan should have known enough to change calls, etc..that was perplexing
- Even if BC hated (allegedly) his job with the Raiders…I can’t imagine ANY coach EVER performing hari kari in the Super Bowl for personal spite. There was too much personal gain in being a SB champion.
- The biggest reason why I find these allegations hard to believe? Al. Like c’mon, you think Al would have just sat there and played possum? Not a chance. Al has no shame, he’d fire a coach after a Super Bowl! Heck, he would have gotten John Herreira to unfold the able-walker and fit the Motorola to his comb over and he woulda gone on the sidelines and coached! Like there’s no way.
- as for Tim Brown: his stats speak for themselves and as a Raider fan, have to respect and honour them. But you know what else speaks for itself? When Tim Brown had his retirement announcement, (if I remember correctly?) Al was nowhere to be found.
Anyways, hope Reggie and staff are doing their due diligence for this upcoming draft.

Of course, Callahan didn’t throw the game. Tim says something crazy every couple of years. He can’t help himself.
It’s too bad that no former Raiders seem able to articulate what really happened that week and that day. Clearly, the team performed terribly after having a great post-season. I’d love to know what went wrong with the overall preparation.
I knew the game was over in the first quarter when Greg Spires, one of the lesser players on TB’s defense, threw Lincoln Kennedy on the ground and sacked Gannon. Kennedy was coming off two nearly flawless seasons in pass protection, dominating much better players than Spires.
So what happened? Why did Kennedy and so many other players perform so far below their week-in, week-out performance level. It would probably take a really good journalist to get guys like Gannon to spill the beans. It will probably never happen.

If ol Al did not fire Cally after that, then Al knew about the change or asked for the change in game plan.

====================================================
So now its Al’s fault? You can’t be serious. Al traded Gruden becuase he was leaving for Notre Dame and taking Callahan with him. He got Tampa Bay’s 2002 and 2003 first-round draft picks, 2002 and 2004 second-round draft picks, and $8 million in cash. Thats pretty good for a coach that was on his way out. Gruden was not coming back. You think Al was going to fire Callahan on the night before the Super Bowl. That’s crazy. In his presser, Callahan states “I think it would be in the best interests of all including the game America loves that these allegations be retracted immediately.” That’s becuase if these allegations were true then the law suits would be in the billions. Every person that bought a ticket, ad space, or watched the game could sue. It would destroy the NFL.
One thing that Callahan does not dispute is that he changed the game plan. That makes him either the worst coach in the history of the NFL or he took a dive. He arguments are weak and the evidence is mounting.

Brown’s story has riled up his former Tampa teammates who used to stick up for him. On Tampa sports radio, guys like Derrick Brooks feels like this all a backhanded stab at the Bucs. Of course Romo wants to minimize the story.
From wiki;
Robbins regained his starting job the next year in the 2003 NFL season with the same linemates, a disastrous 4–12 for the team. However, his name and those of several of his teammates were found on the list of clients of the Bay Area Laboratory Co-operative that had given performance-enhancing drugs to Marion Jones and others. The Raiders released him in the summer of 2004 after he tested positive for a steroid known to have come from the BALCO lab

Mark Davis has his concerns about Power hungry Reggie and his guy Dennis and he should be very concerned. Reggie and his guy Dennis goal was to assemble a better team than the coach before him, Hue Jackson. Not only did they failed but they failed miserably. Hue Jackson with twice the winning record as the two headed team and an offense that ranked with the top of the NFL showed his worth. Reggie and his guy made some locker room improvements according to Reggie but zero gains as far as player production. Player production has nothing to do with salary issues!!! Hue is gone but that does not change the goal for any Raider new hire and that is to do better than the coach that got fire for not being as productive as the owner projected. At this stage of the Raider change of the guard Hue Jackson Raiders 2, the dynamic duo zero.

I don’t know about Reggie being power hungry. He seems pretty humble when he talks about his role with the organization.
A far cry from the megalomaniac that was Hue Jax.
But I do agree that the short term scorecard of Hue’s track record of getting production from marginal talent is easily better than Reggie or DA.

In this respect, Tim Brown is a douche. He’ll do or say almost anything to get noticed. In this case it has backfired and he’ll have to pay the piper. As far as HOF recognition goes, that ship has just sailed. It won’t be back anytime soon if ever. Unless he retracts his statements outright, he’s going to get sued for defamation by Calahan & he’s going to lose. He’s already started to backtrack but it’s too little too late. Brown really needs to understand that his big mouth is writing checks his a$$ can’t cover and his days of notoriety are over. As far as getting a coaching job somewhere, that’s not happening anytime soon. As far as getting an executive position with the Raiders goes, he’s got a better chance playing Lotto.
Tim Brown has just screwed himself. That’s what happens when you operate your mouth before engaging your brain.
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:21 am
JaMarcus coming back can re-revolutionalize the position of QB. Forget dual threat. JaMarcus is a triple threat at the QB position.
1) He can beat you with his cannon arm
2) After making the right read in the option, he can choose a defender to sit on, taking him out of the game and whittling away their defensive depth
3) Ever hear the term “eat up blockers”? JaMarcus can be the offensive equivalent by literaly consuming hapless defenders that find themselves within arm’s reach in the backfield

An intriguing destination for JaMarcus next year is the New England Patriots. It’s become painfully clear that Tom Brady is a shell of his former self. Even though I’m an anti-Brady guy, couldn’t help but feel sorry for him a litle bit on Sunday. He just looked so helpless. As much as the NE brass loves the guy, the handwriting is on the wall. JaMarcus would be the perfect replacement. With his gun, they might be able to get that elusive 4th SB win. It would take some getting used to for me, but I’d root for him. What do you guys think?
January 23rd, 2013 at 10:51 am
Djjohnny–excellent point. All of the haters/racists loved gradkowski just cuz he came out and had fire and competed and completed passes and generally acted as if he cared if the raiders won or lost. Ridiculous. They don’t understand how cool it is to wear due coats and huge rocks and ropes and drink syrup and eat a lot and sleep a lot and……well I hope we resign him to prove to people like that awful doctor guy that athletic, fast qb’s are……wait. I lost my train of thought. Who were we talking about again?

No. Belichick requires players who work hard, stay in shape, and know the playbook. JaMarcus is 0 for 3 on that score. Besides, NE’s got Ryan Mallet ready to take over for Brady.

Good morning race haters and impostor fans, guess what…..
BIG MACK IS WHOOPIN’ YO AZZ THIS MORNING!!!!!
PRYOR WILL BE GIVEN A SHOT TO COMPETE FOR THE STARTING GIG!!!!
This is huge news. This means that what i have told you is true.
1. pryor more than impressed in san diego, he proved to be a weapon of mass destruction grossly mishandled.
2. The advent of the wave of the futre and the hybrid offense has caused davis jr and big mack kick DA in the nutz and get him on the field. Because this qb and this offense will be a TRUE INSTANT UPGRADE AND MAKE US COMPETITIVE IMMEDIATELY WITH OUT OVER HAULING THE ROSTER
3. carson was on an extended tryout and has not impressed. he is dime a dozen and you can find his type every where, yet there are very very few with skills like pryor and one is in the superbowl
This is a smack in the face for the haters and palmer worshipers, but it must be done.
We will see a return to al davis football next season, and it will be updated with the hybrid game!!!
Hopefully we cut palmer outright so that we can save some cap space and spend the draft and money on defense and o line.
Next time i tell you something write it down and memorize it!!!
HYBRID OFFENSE in 2013!!!
THE WAVE OF THE FUTURE OWNS YOU, AND IT IS TSUNAMI WEARING NUMBER SIX!!!

This means that even if pryor ends up 2 out of camp that palmer will be on an insanely short leash,( long over due).
The minute palmer falters and has one of his turnover filled stupefying meltdowns HE WILL GET BENCHED!!!
Davis big mack and the entire city of oakland will be screaming for pryor.

I’ve softened my stance on the decision Hue made. Still pissed about it because it was disrespectful to our best QB since Gannon, Jason Campbell. At the end of the day though, Boller couldn’t get it done and there wasn’t an alternative if he wanted to turn a 4-2 start into a playoff run. Garrard would’ve been the guy, but he was injured. Cincy had us in a compromising position. So I don’t blame Hue as much as I do blame Palmer for stinking up the joint. I want him cut tonight!!

Good Lord. Reggie says Pryor will be given a chance to show if he can “u know, take over”, which after him saying repeatedly that they would be trying to “find where they can use him best”, would tell a sane person that he meant show in the preseason that he could take over “some day”. But we get the idiot ranting and raving. U have to hand it to him. He’s an ate renal optimist when it comes to his crush on Pryor.

# 9 was about as equal as all the other thing done by Reggie. Any new hire can come here and change things, get new guys, and save money . That happens in everyday life everywhere. Where is the production from all the move you say he made. Did any non-rookie players get better? Power hungry Reggie did not want any thing to do with any gains the Raiders made because the gains were under a head coach not related to him and his guys. Reggie thought without regard to raw analysis recorded in the Raiders progress from years, he could install systematic schemes that did may play to the strengths of his players. Doing things his way is first priority and the Raiders are second place and it shows.

Here is why you say there is open competition for every position, because than everybody works their ass off to win, compared to say this or that guy has it on lock down, then back up just works out like a back up , get it?

++++++++++
Good point, but I highly doubt if we canned D.A we would hire Sparano–
I love the fact that he is an Ex. Head Coach–its exactly what we need, someone who has worked around the league, has experience, and has done the job before. Can you imagine the circus he just came from with the Jets? They say the Raiders are dysfunctional, but nothing compares to everything that New Yawk comprises…
Love this hire, and I love that the coaches are going to fit the players to what they do best. Knapp and crew were FOOLS to do what they did last year–now that we have Rolando Russell outta here, our Defense can get fixed either through the draft or Free Agency, and we can get that side of the ball shored up, and dial in the Offense–
Shoulda done all this crap last year, but oh well–If’s and but’s were candy and nuts…

so nobody thinks that Reggie announcing TP and Palmer will be in an open competition next year is interesting?
====
I’d be more surprised if he didn’t say it. DA and Reggie have been all about getting rid of the image of the Al scholarships and creating competion at all spots, all the time. This is the lip service that I’d expect to get from a “modern era GM” because they all say the same thing all the time.
The same will be said about every draft pick and UDFAs brought into camp. They are there to compete for a job, whether there is a realistic expatation that they actually can win it or not.
And his stated opinion on this increases the chance of TP becoming the starter by approximately zero percent.
Next story please …

Bray
Manuel
Other drafted and non-drafted white and black qb’s.

No mac 20 i dont.. every team has backups but very few put their high priced QB in and open competition with a mid round pick.. but it could be lip service and not really open. we’ll see how they split the reps. in preseason Carson should get most all the reps under normal circumstances.

I liked what Wylie and Wiz did for us, but that said, I’m glad we got Sparano. He’ll establish the power run game and he’s got some good ideas on how to run an offense. I am sure that Olson can learn a thing or two from him. If there’s one thing missing on the coaching staff is some veteran leadership in the trenches. I think he helps show Dennis Allen a few of the ropes he was missing and can help adapt Olson’s system quickly. I’m very much in favor of this hire even if I’m still skeptical of Reggie. Hated the Olson dumpster diving hire but I’m down with this move.

Sparano to be asst hc and line coach ….LMAO!!!
with each announcement coming from almeda the grad fan/ palmer worshipers are left spinning. this latest move is like right cross knocking the impostors smooth the fugg out!!!
Just look at the sequence of events and it doesnt look good for palmer the bungles (soon to be raider) reject.
1. pryor impressed in preseason and out played all of our qbs but was buried by knapp and da on the bench. yet the show he put on vs detroit wasnt noticed by Davis jr. this is why he was still intrigued and later demanded to get him on the field.
2. prepping for carolina pryor gets his first real practice time as the scout qb and impressed teammates and coaches. tis forced the staff to get him actual playing time in “packages”
3. pryor did get on the field in packages and loo0ked good. so good that he was given a chance to compete with lienart after palmer was injured.
4. pryor beats lienart in a week of split rep competition his first real practice running our offense. then destroys the charger defense with a wildly entertaining blend of throwing prowess and athleticism. he made some throws that were amazing and showed with a full season of practice he can be a starter and a special player.
5. Knapp is fired shortly thereafter with a cloud over him based on why pryor was hidden all season along with damcs drop off.
6. olsen is hired and wants to return to power blocking and deep passing. This isnt a good thing for palmer as he flat out stunk trying to throw deep. in fact he posted a horrendous 24% completion percentage on passes that went further than 20 yards down field. pryor in one start and the game vs detroit proved he can get the ball down field better than the now noodle armed palmer.
7. Sparono hired. Sporano was the master mind behind Miamis so called wild cat offense….A ZONE READ OFFENSE WITH OUT A QB!!!! NOW SPARONO WILL HAVE MAJOR INPUT ON O LINE AND THE OFFENSE TO HELP TEACH THOSE CONCEPTS!!!!
LMAO palmer worship is a black hole of uncertainty at the moment and a major segmnent of this board is being punished for their folly by the raider brass.
You don have to be shaft to connect the dots. Make no mistake, these moves clearly tell you what coming and at some point next year pryor will be the starter
BOOK IT!!!

i have already posted on johhny football, one of my favorite college guys to watch.
I think he is a faster version of jeff garcia.
He is a playmaker but i dont see the arm strength to be included in the wave of the future.

Maybe what Callahan did with changing the game plan last minute was inadvertant sabotage and may not have been literally on purpose….but it was sure indirect sabotage.
Gannon is correct in saying the audible signals and changes at the line should have been changed along with sticking to a more run orientated play action attack with screens to the RB’s and then taking shots deep.
February 6th, 2013 at 7:17 am
New Mexico calls this land ours
February 6th, 2013 at 7:22 am
Palmer will take a paycut to stay, we won’t restructure again because he only has 2 years remaining on his deal, and that just puts us on the hook for more cap hit. Right now he is at $8 mill cap hit to be cut, BUT if he is willing to take a pay cut and we keep him, that cap number will come down to 4 mill (+ his salary). It’s a tricky situation, but Palmer has always said it is not about the money. He, IMO has 2 options, stay with us for less money, or go back to the couch. No one is trading for him, and I think he can get more money from us given our situation than any where else.
February 6th, 2013 at 7:27 am
I don’t see how Palmer playing with a higher cap number is better than him not playing with a lower cap number.
We went 4-12 with him, he turned it over a ton and couldn’t finish the season.
I’ll pass on round 2.5
February 6th, 2013 at 7:32 am
I don’t see how, given our cap situation, you could be ok with paying a player $8 million not to be here, if you could get him to play for the same $8 million or less. seems crazy to me.
February 6th, 2013 at 7:38 am
Sorry if I 100% disagree that we were 4-12 BECAUSE of Palmer. That is just fvckin crazy talk to me. Sh1t receivers, limited production from the running game, unimaginitive offense. Awful defense until the last 4 games. Yeah I can see how you would blame ALL of that on 1 guy.
February 6th, 2013 at 7:39 am
The cap doesn’t come into to play with me at the QB position, because I feel it is too important of a position.
I am a firm believer in the old “don’t quit your job until you have a better one” though and I don’t think TP is better than Carson.
So my whole focus on cutting Palmer revolves around drafting Geno Smith as well.
As far as getting him to play at under $8 this year, just sounds like we will be doing this whole dance again in 12 months.
Either commit one more year to him and just leave the contract alone, or can him and take the hit up-front.
February 6th, 2013 at 7:42 am
I don’t blame it ALL on him, and am willing to let some of that fall on Knapp.
But he missed PLENTY of open WR’s, threw plenty of horrendous INT’s, had plenty of moments to fight back and he would throw a 1 yard pass on 3rd and 8, to the only route that was short of the sticks.
Not a winner.
February 6th, 2013 at 7:47 am
Bengals went 4-12 with him, then made the playoff the next two years.
Raiders were 12-11 over roughly a 1.5 year span before, now what like 8-16 since.
Again, not ALL Palmers fault, but certainly a lot of that is.
He turns it over too much, checks out too much, doesn’t inspire his teammates to play better enough, and cost too much.
Draft Geno!!!!
February 6th, 2013 at 8:18 am
I feel Palmer did admirably considering what he was given to work with. The 4-12 Bengals had TO and Ochocinco fighting over the ball, and not getting the job done, and a woefully underperforming defense, it wasn’t like all they did was change Palmer for Dalton and suddenly became a playoff team. If Palmer had AJ Green to throw to, and for opponents to gameplan against, and a defense that didn’t allow 30ppg he could take us to the playoffs too.
February 6th, 2013 at 8:53 am
462,
There’s more than a few here who think it doesn’t matter how bad your defense is, or how weak your running game is, or that your receivers don’t even rank in the top 50 in the league and have numerous drops…all it comes down to is your QB.
Nothing’s gonna change the mindset of “Palmer was 4-11″ even though he can’t personally catch the passes he throws or play shut down defense, or play special teams and prevent long kick and ount returns.
February 6th, 2013 at 9:08 am
It’s funny to see how fans of other teams react to certain things.
With all this talk of Dalton doing things Palmer never did, Cincy is still w/o a playoff win since 1990 season.
