Former Raiders WR Rice backs WR Brown’s Super Bowl ’sabotage’ accusation

Former Raiders wide receiver Jerry Rice just appeared on ESPN’s NFL Live show. During a phone interview, Rice backed fellow former Raiders wide receiver Tim Brown’s accusation that coach Bill Callahan “sabotaged” the Raiders’ chances of winning the Super Bowl against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers by changing the game plan the Friday before the game.
This story just keeps getting stranger by the minute, with numerous players chiming in on the subject. It’s worth noting that Jon Ritchie, the fullback on that team, also feels the same way, while linebacker Bill Romanowski, right offensive tackle Lincoln Kennedy, safety Rod Woodson and quarterback Rich Gannon disagreed with Brown’s seemingly outlandish accusation.
There will be plenty more on this as it unfolds, including any comment from Callahan, who now is with the Dallas Cowboys. Also, beat writer Jerry McDonald is working on a story for later today.
In the interim, here’s what Rice had to say:
Q: Was the game plan changed Friday before the game?
A: “Yes, it did. I was very surprised by that because you work all week long running the football, then all of a sudden on that given Friday, we decided that we were going to come out and throw the ball over 60 times. What Bill Callahan, and what Tim Brown is accusing him of is that, why would you wait until the last second to change the game plan.”
Q: In any way, do you think Callahan tried to sabotage the Raiders’ chances of winning the Super Bowl?
A: “With Tim Brown, he had been with the Raiders longer, and I recall when I first went to the Raiders, for some reason, and I don’t know why, Bill Callahan, he did not like me. He was that type of coach. Some of the things that happened, with him walking off the field during the game, not being happy about certain situations, I was very surprised that he waited until the last second, and a lot of the players, they were surprised also. So, in a way, maybe because he didn’t like the Raiders, he decided that, ‘Hey, look, maybe we should sabotage this a little bit and let Jon Gruden go out and win this one.’ ”
Q: In saying that, you’re saying that Callahan would, perhaps, risk his career to let the Bucs win?
A: “Yeah, I know exactly what I’m saying. This is a discussion that Tim and I had. Being veterans, we know that you don’t wait until the last second to change the game plan. It has a lot to do with the center, too. He was like, ‘You can’t do this to us right now,’ and maybe that was the reason why he ended up going over to Mexico and he was a no show during the Super Bowl.”
Q: So, you think Callahan’s changing the game plan prompted center Barret Robbins to go to Mexico on the Saturday before the game?
A: “Well, without a doubt because, the center is just like a quarterback on the field. He has to get all the calls right. All week long, we worked on a certain defense. Then, on that given Friday, (Callahan) decided to change the game plan to a passing game. With Barret, he was frustrated, he was, like, ‘You cannot do this to us at the last second.’ Maybe that’s the reason why he decided to not show up.”
Q: Have you and Tim Brown confronted Bill Callahan with your stance about him sabotaging the Super Bowl?
A: “We never had the opportunity. But, as a veteran and as a guy that had been around for a long time, you don’t want to question your coach at that time. But we just found that it was very unusual to change everything, when we had Tyrone Wheatley and also Charlie Garner, and we had probably the best fullback in the league with Zack Crockett. So, we had a game plan and all of a sudden you change that game plan. Basically, we didn’t know exactly was going to happen in that Super Bowl.”
Q: Just to clarify, you believe that Callahan potentially and deliberately hurt the Raiders’ chances of winning that Super Bowl?
A: “Well, this is what I’m saying. I just felt it was very unusual. Tim Brown, he was like the guy in Oakland, and if he was suspicious of something like that, I really have to believe Tim Brown because this guy was everything with the Oakland Raiders. He had been there a long, long time and this was a discussion that we had after. I just found it to be very unusual because you want to go into that situation knowing exactly what you want to do, how you want to approach that defensive opponent, and we changed everything that Friday.”

Also as far as Tim and Jerry goes both felt this a long time ago and have said so many times. The week that Callahan called them the dumbest team Tim Brown came out and said everything he is saying NOW.
I remember Tim even saying this on the radio that week. He didn’t say he tried to sabotage the SB at all Tim Brown said that Bill callahan hated the Raiders and Jerry didn’t say he hated us but he did agree that there was something about the raiders that Callahan didn’t like.
This is all old news that people have forgotten that is being rehashed IMO because I’ve heard all this stuff before.

I’ll take Tim Brown and Jerry Rice’s word over Callahan any day. I always thought it was strange that he didn’t change ANY of the playcalls or signals vs. a coach that created the language for that offense. I also thought it was strange that Gruden would even give a crash course in that language to his defense. Any normal coach would expect the playcalls to change in that situation. Becuase any normal coach WOULD change the playcalls in that situation.
What did Chucky know that the Raider Nation didn’t?

callahan and /or al davis changed the gameplan.
the players were pizzed.
robbins freaked out and went nuts.
gruden stepped in as scout qb during the week, calling out all the plays.
the bucs were calling out all the plays.
brown and others already didn’t like callahan and were probably mad at gruden for leaving, so they called “sabotage”. thta’s what it felt like.
if anything, callahan, after meeting with al davis and gannon, decided to go with their mvp to try to win the game. makes sense in a lot of ways.
but callahan made two huge coaching gaffes. panicking and changing ur plan last minute. and even bigger, not changing the lingo.
that’s a big red flag right there. what was he thinking? and why was gruden calling out all the changes at practice?
it’s hard to know what’s coming when the run is called in the huddle. but when u know all the line calls for passes, it’s easy pickings.
gannon and the raiders didn’t stand a chance.
of course the defense also sucked that day.

I like this story coming out cuz it might force Hub Arkush to face up to the Gruden rumors he started.
He’ll be on the air in Chicago in about 25 minutes.
That dummy totally went into hiding on his “breaking news” that Gruden was coming to Oakland.
He defended his story and his “sources” even after Zak Gilbert (Raider PR guy) angrily and vehemently denied them, saying he’d been e-mailing with Zak back and forth and that he “stands by the original report”.
Crickets from that Gallagher look a like since then.

Interesting point. And before anyone says it would have been impossible to change the calls before the game, remember that it was apparently enough time for the TB defense to LEARN them. Keep in mind Lynch’s quote during the game.

It’s not just the game plan, he didn’t change the audible calls on an offense built on audibles. Imagine how effective Manning would be if the defense was given a cheat sheet with his playcalls before the game. Teams change the language up all the time but Callahan didn’t. I remember a quote from TE Roland Williams even approaching Callahan and asking him about it. That plus changing your gameplan to cater to the strengths of a defense your going to face?? I smell a rat. And I think Gruden was in on it too.

In the past I have accused Dennis Allen as being a Lane Kiffin clone. I was wrong and would like to apologize to Lane Kiffin. Dennis Allen is a Callahan clone. Even Lane Kiffin wouldn’t throw a game. Callahan and Allen………..not so sure.

It is the implication that it was done deliberately so that they lose the SB I still don’t buy. IMO, Callahan changed the game plan last minute because his dumbbass remembered, “oh wait, Gruden still knows all of our running calls at the LOS, shizzer, we better pass the ball and scrap the no huddle”. IMO Callahan changed the game plan out of desperation and stupidity but it might as well have been deliberate. His intentions don’t matter one iota now.

I’m not sure why they would have a game plan to go run-only anyway? TB was first against the pass, ok, but they were still 5th vs the run, and we hadn’t run that much that year.

These allegations by Brown — which were bolstered today by another player on that team, Jerry Rice — are stunning. So far, Callahan hasn’t responded. But he needs to speak out and give his side of this story. IMO, Callahan changed the game plan last minute because his dumbbass remembered, “oh wait, Gruden still knows all of our running calls at the LOS, shizzer, we better pass the ball and scrap the no huddle”.

Dude, think about it. The problem they have is that the gameplan changed at the last minute. That practice isn’t conducive to winning. Players are creatures of habit. Get the gameplan, practice it all week, and play on Sunday. Sounds like BRobb was pissed as hell about it.

Every other team that has faced a cover two defense in the superbowl RAN THE BALL. That year’s offense could beat you passing or running the ball. Just ask KC. We all know what the Raiders did to them on the ground. Plus it made sense to pound the ball against a team that was built to stop a passing offense. I also heard that Richie is backing Brown and Rice.

In the losses vs the Bucs that year the QB’s were:
Aaron Brooks (NO Saints beat them twice)
Tommy Maddox (Pitt)
Donavan McNabb (Phil – only passed for 127 yards)
None of those QB’s passed for over 260 yards during the game.
So someone please explain to me if no team beat the Tampa 2 defense with their passing game then what possessed Callahan to not only change the gameplan 30 hours before the superbowl but change it to something that no team had been successfull with that entire season against the Bucs.
Add to the fact that the Raider Offensive line out weighed Tampa’s by an average of 340lbs to 260lbs and you tell me what the F#$k is going on here?

Listen this is old hat I guess everyone has forgotten the fact that not only did Bill Cally WALK off the field TWICE yelling at the players . he actually SAID “I DON’T WANT TO BE HERE because THEY DON’T WANT TO WIN HERE. BILL CALLAHAN said those words hisself. He said himself I shouldn’t have come here.
This is all while Jon Gruden was still the coach before when he said this and Jon talked him into staying. Then he does what he does a year later he literally QUIT on his team and walked off teh field again then later does what he did on the Friday of the SB game. Next during tyhe offseason he changes the offense to a verticle offense completely upsetting the offensive players especially brown and Rice because both are used to playing in the WCO under Gruden. Tj I agree that Callahan hated the Raiders. But it bothers me that Callahans hate was greater than his desire to hoist a Lombardi. The dude would of been a super bowl winning coach. It just boils down to Callahan may have been a burrito short of a combination plate. It’s always been a mystery why he didn’t change up the signals when Gruden knew he used his script all season. Tj I agree that Callahan hated the Raiders. But it bothers me that Callahans hate was greater than his desire to hoist a Lombardi. The dude would of been a super bowl winning coach. It just boils down to Callahan may have been a burrito short of a combination plate. It’s always been a mystery why he didn’t change up the signals when Gruden knew he used his script all season. Very strange indeed.

Not even possible, Cally was one of the brightest coaches around. His ability to design plays and offensive concepts is what led Mr Davis to hire once he saw that he could lead the team. Remember Mr Davis observed him during the Senior Bowland camps before naming him HC he actually called him senior or captian of teh coaches before making him HC. Bill was a brilliant coach just not HC material is all.
But people need to understand as far fetched as this seems what he did while coaching for us was even stranger. No coach who wants to lead a team to victory does what he did.

I think it is pretty simple.
Callahan was not “Sabotaging” the game, and didn’t want to lose on purpose.
But he did hate the players and the way the organization was run enough to make sure that if “they” won in Bill’s eyes, it was going to be his way.
So he had his my schlong is bigger than yours moment on the Friday when he bizarringly changed the gameplan. Everyone complained, he didn’t care; my way or the highway.
That’s why Bill went to Nebraska, and made one of the nicest and most forgiving fanbases hate him.

Timmy has never been afraid to share his opinion, and sometimes that lands him in hot water. That said, I think there’s probably some validity to this story. The game of football, more than any other sport, is about preperation and studying your opponent. Who in there right mind changes the game plan at the 11th hour leading to the Superbowl? I’ll tell you who,….The Dumbest Coach in America.
It’s weird that this story is just now surfacing because as a life long Raider fan I was left looking for answers after that game. It’s a shame that we’re talking about it 10 years after the fact. Maybe the real question should be, “Where was the investigative journalisim from our beloved beat writers?” How many interviews with Tim Browm have passed where they’ve failed to ask simply “What do you think happened that day in San Diego, Mr. Brown?” We all know ‘ole #81 would have laid it out there for us.
I don’t want to take anything away from the Buc’s because they flat kicked our asses, but knowing what we know now I think it’s fair to say that perhaps, at a minimum, they would have been better prepared.
I’d like for Charles Woodson to weigh in on this…

People don’t purposefully “sabotage” their own futures. The idiots saying that BC would have preferred Gruden winning over BC winning are absolutely nuts.
I watched that game. We were up against one of the most stellar defensive units in the history of football, and when we did run in that first q, it was like hitting a brick wall.
I can easily see why they went to the pass, and continued going to it as we fell behind.
However, the idiocy of Tim is nothing more than his hatred of Callahan, on the day BC was named the play caller of the Cowboys.
Rice is Tim’s friend, and Jer isn’t so bright, ya know?
Timmy has a history of getting his feelings hurt, feeling slighted, and misreading situations. Always has.
Not that I love Skip Bayless or anything, but yesterday before the story was big news, Skip tried to maintain some diplomacy (which is hard for him) by saying that he covered the Raiders then and he liked Tim as a person very much but knew that Tim had weird takes on a lot of things and was prone to hyperbole.

Not sure why changing a game-plan would have effected one of the more veteran teams to ever play in a SB.
Callahan should have ran more in 20/20 hindsite… but no way would a change to a passing attack effect this team one iota. It could have run that passing offense in its SLEEP. Don’t believe me look at the Pitts game from that year. WCO 101.
What they should have changed is the audibles, play calls, and pump fakes.

As for the “dumbest team in America” comment…wasn’t that about our penalties? I can’t remember, but I DO remember thinking at the time, “He’s right.” I remember being pissed that the Raiders always picked the most inopportune times to get stupid penalties.
I like what the good coaches teach–that getting penalties like unsportsmanslike conduct just to show your manhood (ha!) is the ultimate in selfish conduct.

Simple, Most people don’t know this but it was rare when Mr Davis would change a gameplan. If he did it was always on defense and the offensive players know this. Now as far as his coaches changing it he would’ve said take it to the players and see if it csn work. That would be totally up to the coaching staff’s ability to make it work. Mr Davis probably meddled with gameplans about 10% of what people really think he did unless he didn’t trust the coaches ability to recognize matchups. That stuff gets way overplayed he would do it but not nearly to the extent people think.
He was like a coaches coach even the HC he never stepped on Gruden or Flores or most his coaches but I could see him stepping in on a DA or Tom Cable if he thought he saw something they might not.
I’ll tell ya’ Hue jackson LOVED him because he could bounce things off Mr Davis so could Gruden both knew how to sell him on the gameplans if they thought he needed to know.
You see with Mr Davis it’s how confident are you as a coach as to how much he would assist or implement what his thoughts were. Kiffin never listened to him and what was worse he loss games because of it.

Two things I noticed about Allen’s interview:
1) he dissed his OT’s. said he wished he had three good ones on game day like he will Saturday.
2) he was effusive about Margus hunt. Talked about how “we” could use him potentially. Talked about how u have to consider his upside.

Neither is Jerry or Tim they said Sabotage was discussed Tim IMO has never said he point blank sabotaged the team. He said they they all wondered about it and sabotage came up. Looking at what Cally did how can you blame them for thinking he might have done it.

Flacco is one of the best QB’s in football.
Last 7 playoff games, he has 6 with a 95+ QBR, 3 of them over 115.
13 TD’s to 2 INT’s over that time, facing the best teams in the AFC, mostly on the road.
He is the best QB in the NFL without a ring, no debate.

Gronk is an example of people getting way ahead of themselves with young players after one season.
Why I caution people to pump the brakes on all 3 rookie QB’s from this draft class that made the playoffs.
Gronk broke all kinds of NFL records last year, looks to be made of granite, and yet was injured all year, looks to have a lingering forearm bone issue, had neck issues coming out of college, and now all that “greatest TE ever” talk looks ridiculous.

Apparently an elite QB would’ve taken THIS Raider team to the playoffs. Yes that’s right.
Instead of actual games they should just put robots out there and have the QB’s play against each other.
I guess players other than QB are pointless cuz it all comes down to the QB.

Never said the guy was great. He puts out some real stinkers now and then. But he has an elite skill set. Top-5 NFL arm and some movement skils. When he’s good, he’s really good. What I love about this SB that it blows up the myth that you need an elite QB to win it all.

Well, Flacco plays for a better TEAM. A lot of flaws can be overcome by playing like a complete unit. Something the Raiders haven’t done in a decade.
Also, Flacco has been turnover free this playoff run. I can’t remember the last time Carson didn’t have a turnover in a game and we actually won.

A Flacco fan here. But you’ve got to admit that he’s played better in the playoffs the last two years then he did the previous three. They blew out the Patriots at NE three years ago when Flacco threw for like 35 yds. The next week, they got smoked by the Colts (may have been a shutout). No one can deny that he’s gotten steadily better though.

WHy do guys always fighting that this position or that position is important, all freaking positions are important, yes QB is more important, but if you don’t give him receivers, running game, Oline , than he’s nothing, same with running back, if the passing game is not a threat Ds will key on you and etc etc , same with receivers, you can have C Johnson , but if the qb is not good or is not getting protection he’s useless, same with a beast pass rusher, if a DB is playing 20 yards away from receiver, QB gets rid of the ball quicker and he’s useless, same with Cornerbacks, you could have D Revis back there, but if the pass rush is not getting there eventually his guy will open, i can go on and on and on, all positions are important, there is no easy way into playoffs, you have to get better at each n each phase of your team

Finally hopefully Reggie has come to his senses CSN reports that Reggie has announced that my BABY Terrelle Pryor will compete NOT for just the backup role but the STARTING POSITION next year.
Hopefully this is the final position and Pryor is firmly entrenched on this team and in their future. Because obviously Reggie has been fielding several calls for Pryor’s services.
KK astutely opined that due to Kappy’s exploits in the Playoffs that Pryor’s stock has risen. That apparently is the case because I gaurantee they hav eheard from several teams inquiring as to his availability which I was hoping would make Reggie understand how highly touted Pryor is amongst NFL pro personnel and execs.
So there you have it sports fans the new and improved wave of the future style of QBplay has officially come to the Oakland Raiders………..Yahhhoooooo!!!

Yeah, that’s right. Had his 1st decent playoff game in the 1st round against the Chiefs. Ravens still getting knocked for not being able to beat the Steelers. Bad turnovers against the Steelers the next week and took a lot of heat. Then he struggled against the Texans, but T.J. Yates struggled more. Played great against the Pats before The Drop. Very good playoffs this year. Has played on a damn good team with a great D. Perfect way to break into the league for a guy as talented as him.

Reggie did this to let everyone know the chance of Pryor being traded are slim he is slated to compete for the strating position is all. Palmer was said to be the incumbent starter by DA before the season ended and Reggie just made it known that is IF he wins the job.
There was no competition for the starting position until today. Palmer was thought by many to be a LOCK…….well think again because it might be the boy wonder TP6.
As far as those thinking he has a noodle arm we will soon find out as he gets into camp and proceeds to win that job outright………..period

Kap does not = Pryor.
Kap has mastered the unique skill of forward pass with a “spiral” motion. Pryor uses the more traditional end-over-end pitch.

Terrelle Pryor’s arm is like Gabe Kapler’s power.
Kapler used to put on world-class batting practice shows, mashing 400 foot homers no problem.
Then proceeded to be a punch-and-Judy slap hitter during the game.
Pryor can power it down the field during practices and what not, then has shown through his college career and 1 NFL game to prefer to throw 15 yard sky-hooks then Kapy like fastballs.

I think you are exactly right. I think it’s fantastic that there will be open competition for the starting position. I hope it’s true and fair.
I mean this as honestly as can be said, if Pryor beats out Palmer in open competition I will be doing jumping kacks and somersaults of happiness cuz I will know we have our franchise QB of the future…and present.

As far Kap’s success making pryor’s stock rise? Had convo with buddies during game about how Kaps, and Wilsons success actually hurts Pryor, not helps. Comments were wilson stepped in day one, full package, on all cyhlinders. kap stepped in, and beat green bay with his legs, and next game beat atl with accurate passing. pryor is a project, who has a history of sub-500 games through his career, even against weak teams.
Teams don’t give up much for projects.
We should keep pryor, and bring him along like harb did Kap.

Palmer has had a very strong and accurate arm his entire career imo. His decision making at times is another subject.
The knock on Pryor has been that he does not have that.
IF Pryor can throw it better than Palmer then the intangibles of running and being a dual threat are there.

I saw a Raider game once…it was against Dallas, I think it was a preseason game. This guy named Pryor was the fastest guy on the field. He would duck and dive and avoid all the pass-rush of the cowgirls, get loose and…Thrown the ball end-over-end to the feet of wide-open receivers.
This guy at the end of the game said “I sucked, everyone else was good, but I sucked.”

Callahan’s a punk. Worst super bowl coaching ever. Running the ball down their throats was the right approach – to change it last minute is unacceptable.
After tanking the Raiders, he went to Nebraska and tanked that program. Huskers only now coming out of the damage he did.

It is actually the past 3 years he has improved in the playoffs, 13 TD to 2 INT’s, and that timeline also coincides with Hue leaving as his QB coach.
That NE-Colts season was 4 playoffs ago, 2009. Hue Jackson at the helm. 0 TD’s 3 INT’s, 220 yards passing in 2 games.

I will take 10 INTs in 16 games on a first placed schedule over 14 INT’s in 14 games against a 3rd placed schedule.
Carson’s stats also have pretty much 8 home games to 6 road games.

Does Balt have receivers like Boldin and Torrey Smith or does Flacco have guys like DHB (Mr. Dropsie) or an undrafted rookie who caught 19 passes in college and another reciever who’s not even rated in the top 60 in the league?
None of that matters though.
QB’s should just play with robots cuz nothing or no one else matters on a team.

Quit being so overdramatic, every position counts, you can’t be woefully inadequate at ANY spot and win a Super Bowl.
But all kinds of QB’s have willed a crappy team to at least the first round of the playoffs. Hell Carson did it the beginning of his career.
He ain’t that player anymore. He wilted last year, threw bone-headed picks at the worst time, and couldn’t finish the season, in spite of being hit fewer than only 3 other QB’s in the world.

I would love to trade down far enough to get a 2nd round pick, and draft Te’O in the 1st, Franklin in the 2nd and Honey Badger in the 3rd.
The best MLB, RB and kick returner in the draft.
Can’t go wrong with that right? Draft some interior lineman in the 4th round and later.

Last year I read a lot of comments saying DHB was the hardest worker on the team, who has the most to prove, which guaranteed his success. IMO, they all work hard, and want success. Those that don’t don’t last long

Yeah, I suppose you could. The problem is I don’t see it manifesting itself through attitude when I watch the Raiders. Palmer may be the strong silent type, but I tend to think he’s way too laid back–I never see him get upset about anything. He needs to go back to Orange County and be Lane Kiffin’s QB coach. His fire for leading and winning is out. That, and he holds the ball like a loaf of bread. Just my opinion.

I look at what a QB does AND WHEN he does it. Palmer comes up small when he’s needed far too often. His teams have been 4-12 two of the last three seasons. Getting pretty hard not to link him up with those records, especially when his new team got worse, and his old team got infinitely better. You seriously need to see someone about this Palmer worship problem you have.

Meaningless Week 17 games are the worst thing for fan bases.
How you get talked into Scott Mitchell for big bucks, Joe Aska as your starting RB, and thinking Billy Joe Hobert is the future at QB.
TP may or may not be that guy, but what he did against San Diego only puts his game on film for teams next year.
He will have to be MASSIVELY better in the future to even be considered a starting NFL QB.

Debo–I don’t live Palmer. He’s average-to-good at this point. He’s basically flacco on a bad team. But I see things objectively and intelligently. I understand that stats measure performance. I also know a good passer when I see one. He occasionally forces things and can be reckless. I blame that on him knowing he has to do it all if its gonna get done. I actually feel he’s a smart, savvy, tough competitor. He deserves support from fans.

This whole Brown/Callahan is old news and it’s getting legs NOW???
I remembered on this blog during the KIFFIN days (yes, been here THAT LONG) someone posted a youtube video of Brown telling the exact same story. Why now?
If Brown is lying or exaggerating, that makes no sense. Why reiterate this story NOW especially when the Pro Bowl balloting is like less than two weeks away? To stay relevant name-wise for the ballot voters? Did he not take notes after Bonds, McGwire, Sosa?
Notice a pattern here? The only denials coming forward are those players who are part of the NFL media. Why would Rice come forward and risk his reputation? I guess the question is what former 02 team member NOT on the booth currently has denied the account?

I thought there would at least be a fight when Training camp opens but I guess they have just lost heart for it.
It’s a simple case of reading writing on the wall. This is not gonna be a contest once camp opens. Pryor and his work ethic all offseason and his obvious skillset threatens the masses.
Even Reggie having fielded calls from all over the league for Pryor’s services came to realize maybe what he has on his hands is much more valuable than he ever thought. Watching Kappy’s magic has suade so many to look for a unigue athletic freakishly talented QB to be the face of the franchise. After all look what Kappy who mirrors Pryor’s talent has done for his franchise so maybe Palmer once was the darling of every NFL teams desires but times have changed and it’s wise to see if TP time is the right wave to ride.
I admit I was very concerned that Reggie would allow someone with a few picks to come and steal our future away. But thanks to Reggie common sense does reign at 1220 Harbor Bay Parkway.

Jerry Rice trying to analyze the actions of a mentally unstable Barrett Robbins is pretty disgraceful, in my opinion. Talking about Callahan is one thing, but Rice has no idea what made the guy lose his mind. I feel for the person B. Robbins, but I cannot ever forgive the football player. That was the most terrible feeling as a fan attending a Super Bowl and watching your team lose.

His decision making…another subject. So if Pryor beats him out it will show he is throwing good passes and has improved in that regard and now we have a dual threat.

Said he was too stupid he was dumb couldn’t learn the playbook and couldn’t get in and out of the huddle they have disgraced this kid in every way imaginable. technically, every year there is “competition” for the starting spot. Most coaches talk about how players have to earn their spots, even starters.
I’ll gladly put down $100 that a healthy CP3 on the team starts over Pryor and his 12 for 30 with 4 yard average.

Now remember McKenzie told reporters just last week that he’s tight-lipped about roster moves, draft picks, etc.
IF, and it’s just an IF, McKenzie was interested in either drafting Geno Smith, or trading for Matt Flynn, pumping up your 46% backup QB would make sense.

I was the one asking for Pryor just to be given a chance but people in here just ripped the kid to shreds for no reason other than one that I can think of.
Now he obvously will be given that chance I suggested he get. Now it’s up to him to put in the work and show that he has improved.
I think the Raiders took the time to watch that film and took into consideration all the odds against him and yet he performed admirably. They have seen the light. That kid is a great leader and competitor. Also he is much better as a passer than anyone wants to admit. In short the kids got serious game and now they know it.

We should draft Jamie Collins. The experts think J Jones is the next V Miller but I’m not sold on the kid. I think Collins is the next V Miller. He was a DB before switching to LB, and he has 40 TFL and 17 sacks the last 2 years.

I’m biased towards Pryor because he is Al Davis’ last draft pick and it would be great if he could be successful and mitigate Al’s legacy over the past decade.
Still, I’m not getting my hopes up. We need to see more. The kid should have been put in for the last 3 games of the season so we could get a better idea of how teams would respond to him.

the statisticians being hired by NFL franchises have proven that games started and completion % are the two NCAA traits that matter most when evaluating and projecting a QB into the NFL.
(Gimmicky offenses nullify it, but Pryor was in a standard O so it doesn’t apply here.)
Therefore, Pryor’s high # of terrible accuracy performances against the few decent defenses he faced at Ohio State are a big RED FLAG. He comes out in preseason and his NFL debut and continues the trend.
That’s not even subjective. That’s just what statistically HAPPENED.

Perhaps the coaches knew that, going forward, Palmer was light-years ahead of Pryor and the need to win the final few games to build momentum for 2013 was more important than seeing what they already knew – that Pryor is too inconsistent to start in the NFL.
Isn’t this logical for why the coaching staff wouldn’t need to force Pryor to start?

I’ve said it many times, that I would LOVE Pryor to be a total stud and take us to the playoffs and I don’t cast any more doubt on him than I would ANY backup QB we have.
Don’t include me in the list of people who called people dumb or that he can’t play qb. You will not find any posts of me saying that. You may however find the ones where I was saying he should be starting as early as week 14 so we could see what he can do.
I’ve ripped on plenty more qb’s way worse than Pryor…who I have not ripped on.
Have I questioned whether he can be the guy? Of course. No more so than I would any other QB who hasn’t had his shot yet.

Alex, to see what they have in him. He’s essentially a rookie and was 3rd only because of Leinart’s familiarity with Knapp. Think they’re bringing Leinart back to play ahead of Pryor? lol. Not happening.

Sometimes I wonder if Mis1tic n all these guys are even black people , they could some aliens , trying to pit black vs white n ,stir up the nation fans , n every other motive they have, you guys feel that way sometimes , you know what I mean, it could be the mod (whiner fan) like MR Sullivan 44 trying to divide us fans into colors n sh1t , Idk , we should def just learn to ignore all their posts that had Pryor this or Pryor that, if Pryor is good , than nobody would b able to stop him from getting a starting gig, Dennis n Reg wants to save their jobs , they will put the best players out there, n may the best man wins, at every position , no point debating about stupid stuf

I wonder who will be out backup qb next year behind Palmer. A vet or a draft pick. Hopefully someone who, if Palmer got hurt, could throw it deep to our new wr Pryor.

No thanks on Pryor can u imagine him throwing it 40 or 50 times a game like Palmer did this year no thanks YUCK PRYOR will never make it in the NFL as a QB he can’t throw move him to wide receiver already we r wasting our time with him as a qb Palmer is the man just gotta run football more Palmer schits all over Pryor
