ESPN: Raiders hire Sparano to coach line

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Wednesday, January 23rd, 2013 at 12:11 pm in Oakland Raiders.

The Raiders have hired Tony Sparano to coach the offensive line and serve as assistant head coach, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Wednesday.

Sparano was recentely let go as the offensive coordinator of the New York Jets. His resume also includes being head coach of the Miami Dolphins and offensive line coach for the Dallas Cowboys.

A Raiders official said the club was not confirming the hire.

I’m going to have somebody in here to try to compete with everybody. So I’m not going to get into who is two or three, or number one for that matter.” big mack

remember when i told you that this meant pryor will compete to start next season?

LOL bush, dr slob, alex 7 aig jfb, zymurge, dakota, and mac buttcheese 20 bcz 24 are all sick to their stomachs with this latest turn of events.

They creep ever closer to pryor making palmer utterly expendable as he cements his legacy as the all time raider trade bust!!!

    lmao

BIG MACK AND THE WAVE OF THE FUTURE OWNS YOU!!!!

I think they pull the plug on us now and then for giggles.

I’m so sick to my stomach. How can this be happening to my beloved Palmer? Why him? Oh the humanity!

  8. dr_robert Says:

Right not I just feel so owned by the wave of the future. What should I do?

  9. John David Booty Says:

Well done. Sparano is an awesome O-line coach, but I’ll admit, I never imagined he would take the O-line coach job in Oakland. But after not getting any OC calls, I guess he needed to take work where he could get it. He would have been a bad choice as an OC for us, but as an O-line coach, I look forward to seeing what kind of improvement Veld and Wiz develop under Sparano’s tutelage. I like what he did with Dallas’ line when he was there and hope he can bring that same energy here.

I havent been too pleased with this Regime, but hats off for this one. Sparano automatically becomes the best coach we have on our staff, Saunders not included, as he isnt hired in a coordinator capacity.

    Great hire.

  10. Mistic1 Tha Supavillain Says:

drafting pryor was sheer genius from the old man

proving that even in his dying days he was waaaayyy ahead of the curve, as qb like pryor are suddenly en vouge and tearing the nfl apart!!!

when pryor ends up the starter at some ponint next year, if he plays well we can consider him the draft steal of the decade!!

    a 3rd rd supplemental pick?!?!?!

    WOW

Now the other QB’s you favor are “like Pryor”??

  14. 303Raider Says:

I like the Sparano hire. Dude had good running games in Miami.
Let Pryor compete for. The starting job, why not?? We might go 8-8 with Carson next year. If they think they can fix Pryors accuracy issues, I’d rather go 6-10 with him next year to position ourselves to compete for the division in 2014.

  15. REALLIONAIREB Says:

    Lmao @DocRoberts

  16. REALLIONAIREB Says:

Idk if TP gonna start but they sure look like he’s gonna be apart of the offense huh doc rob?

  17. Dakota Says:

Sparano has announced that JV will move back to center, and Wiz will be our new LT.

    Raider on.

  18. dr_robert Says:

So in reality, it would seem Reggie/Allen are doing an interesting thing. They’re trying to get use out everyone they have. Hiring Olson would seem to be an attempt to gear the offense toward Palmer/DMc and hiring sparano (it pains me to say this) would at least hint that they intend on “finding the best way to use” Pryor, given sparanos history with both traditional and wildcat offenses.

Not seeing a pistol guru anywhere. So looks like I was right again.

Pryor’s future for the raiders seems to be “special” packages, eventually leading him to wr.

    CONNECTING THE DOTS

olsen want power blocking and deep passing pryors and dmac strength palmers weakness (24% cmp passes longer than 20 yards, yuck)

sparano hired for o line ass hc, the master mind behind ronnie brown and the wild cat fad

dmac is the original wild hog

pryor ran spread read in college

streater and dhb excellent blockers streater was in option in college

streater dhb ford and moore all of them their strength is going vertical

wilson newton kappy and rgIII have monster seasons the last two seasons and kappy is in the superbowl with a bullet

I think it is very easy to see what is happening here, and i am 100% on board with this.

Love the sporano hire and olsens take ” fit what the roster does best”.

This is going to be fun

    What an imagination. Fascinating
    ********
I was thinking the same thing. It must be amazing to be Mistic. I mean with all the prose and hyperbole in that magnificent work of fiction he wrote about TP… He believes this is all reality. Did you know when TP touched the football, it instantly turned to gold, and rainbows shown in the sky like trails off his spiral. TP was perfect that day, he threw for 964 yards and 11 touchdowns and ran for another 358 yards and 14 touchdowns… He was a perfect 25 for 25 on the day, only because he caught all of his own passes though. The son shone more brightly that day. It did. It was a day of legend.

  24. JLofty Says:

  29. dr_robert Says:

Lol. Wasn’t he saying how horrible the Olson hire was a couple days ago. Suddenly it’s all rainbows and unicorns.

  30. Relentless Says:

I’d like to see how our offense will improve this year. Anything is better than Knapp Krapp. But I’m not sold on Sparano. He hasn’t had much success in his last stops. And I’m still not too fond of Olson. But like I said still much more hopeful than when we had Knapp. All we need now is a LB coach.

  33. severeraiderz Says:

Our best hire since last season and that includes the hiring of Dennis Allen. Im willing to give him a pass on this past season, but if we’re not a much better team by game 6 of this year it’s time to relieve him of his duties and promote Sparano

  34. bcz24 Says:

Wait, why would I be sick to my stomach if they found a way to use Pryor? I am not you Mistic. I don’t WANT anyone in a Raider uniform to fail to prove my point. I don’t ROOT AGAINST my players to win the ‘blog prognosticator of the year’ award. I don’t care WHO wins the games for us as long as there is W in the paper on Monday morning. I said I didn’t like that we spent a 3rd round pick on Pryor, never said I wanted him to fail. I guess you wouldn’t be able to understand that though would you… it wouldn’t fit neatly into your agenda.

hahaha wow mystic is wetting his pants cuz pryor will be used in a few special packages lmfao ya he will prob get 3 to 5 snaps a game thats it strictly back up material u r a retard and have been owned for months the little black nazi will be so dissapointed when the season starts i almost feel bad for him

  39. antispy3 Says:

Luke Joeckel will nod doubt go #1 overall to the Chefs. Brandon Albert better get used to the idea of playing guard or RT. Eric Winston wasn’t very good for the Chefs. Sure glad he turned his back on Oaktown. . .

The Raiders should trade down in the first round, obtaining a third round pick in the process. They should trade down just far enough to still be able to pick Eric Fisher, the Lt from Central Michigan. He is a great athlete, has the requisite skill set & provides a mean streak. . .

I think the world of Jared Veldheer. He is athletic, strong, intelligent 7 a hard worker. However to me his best position is RT.

With Tony Sporano coming in I think he will help coach up the OLine, which has to get younger to get better. if they can draft Long from Oregon & he starts out @ LG then with Tony Bergstrom the Raiders will have one of the younger more talented OLines in the league for years to come.

If they continue to suck in 2013 @ least they have the potential to draft Clowney, the world beater DE from South Carolina. . .but, obvioiusly we all hope they aren’t fortunate enough to draft that high come April 2014. . .

You’ve heard it first, second & will continue to hear it from me in the months, weeks & days leading up to the 2013 College Allocation draft; Eric Fisher, OL Central Michigan, #1 pick by our Oakland Raiders. . .

    Book it. . .

I hope you are right! He would be like Kap except bigger, faster and more durable. I have not seen his inner Steve McNair come out yet but I think he is working really hard and shows potential.

For the life of me I do not understand why everything on this board has to be so on/off I mean I like CP3 and I like the potential of TP as well. I think with the 18 million cap hit and TP’s inexperience – he is not going to be the every down starter but with Saprano we might see him come in a lot and really shake things up.

QB position in my opinion is not the problem – it just about almost every other position on this team.

  82. antispy3 Says:

From all indications from Tampa Olson did the best with he had as an oline scheme.

With Sporano being a Parcells guy & a proponenet of the power blocking concept expect the Raiders to employ that philosophy with the incoming regime. . .

With the addition of Fisher & Long via the draft the Raiders would be indicating this is the future of the Raiders OLine. . .which it should be. . .

I’m all for Pryor as the Raiders starting QB, dependent on his improvement in the offseason. Olson is a fine QB & so-called skill position coach & Sporano is a fine OLine coach. sounds like a combination. . .

Wouldn’t mind Glennon in the mix but He will be gone in the second round or sooner, as it just takes one opinion to circumvent the order of nature. . .or potential draft talent. . .

This is Oakland where the QB’s are in a mentor-protege relationship and a coaching staff that is open to shaking things up. Having wildcat or read plays for TP would force other DC’s to prepare for a whole package of things they do not have to worry about now.

Frankly, after watching TP on the last game of the year, I think he is already better than TT.

Raiders willing to let Pryor compete for starting job
Posted by Darin Gantt on January 23, 2013, 7:33 AM EST

With Carson Palmer injured, Raiders quarterback Terrelle Pryor got what appeared to be a throwaway start in the final game of the regular season.

But it might have been a preview of coming attractions.

Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie told Alex Marvez and Jim Miller on Sirius XM NFL Radio that Pryor would be given a chance to compete for the starting job.

“He needs to see if he can take a game over in the preseason, make some plays and carry out a game plan,” McKenzie said. “Let him compete. That’s what it’s all about. If it looks like he can help us win, at the end of the day, that’s what it’s all about. That’s what we want.”

While Pryor looked raw in his short time on the field last year, there’s no denying he presents a more intriguing option than the rest of the Raiders depth chart.

Palmer is exactly what he is, a good-enough starter who has never won a playoff game. Backup Matt Leinart’s an unrestricted free agent, whom no one would miss.

Pryor at least has potential, as he demonstrated by throwing for two scores and running for another in his one start.

“It was good to see him go in and implement a game plan,” McKenzie said. “He carried it out, played the game through and showed us what he can do. He definitely flashed some things that we’re going to try and see what we can do with him in the offseason. . . .

“That’s fine to be a great athlete. We’ve got a lot of great athletes who can run. I want them to be great football players. I want them to take their game plan and execute it. Just make plays.”

For the franchise that gave us “Just Win, Baby,” Palmer didn’t do it enough, with three of his four victories over the 2-14 Chiefs and Jaguars last year. So even if Pryor doesn’t work out, the Raiders really don’t have much to lose in giving him a chance.

Whoever said it was an embarrasing week to be a Raider was right. But this day changes all that. Sparano hiring was a coup. One that I had hoped for but didn’t want to mention to get my hopes up for.

  117. Silverandblack666 Says:

Scam Newton sucks he was exposed this year after they took his training wheels off.

RG3 is great and fun to watch but he is so small and already having major surgery I don’t see a guy with that small of a frame being able to last that long running the ball in the NFL.

Its funny but all the Can Newton RG3 talk the last 2 years by Mistic and his crew of lackies and not one mention of Kaepernick until he was tearing it up.

  118. Mistic1 Tha Supavillain Says:

The only qbs in ‘open competition” are the qbs that have not performed well enough to keep their jobs out right.

is big ben in ‘open competition’?

no but the matt cassels and palmers of the world are

  119. dr_robert Says:

Judge– yeah but he’s also assistant HC. Of course that’s a title they like to give out to former head coaches as a kind of honor. But I think his work with the wildcat as well as traditional schemes says a lot about wanting to be able to run a normal Palmer/DMc offense and still be able to use Pryor in the wildcat/spread. It will give him a chance to what he does and also be ready if Palmer goes down.

  120. RAIDERMAN99 Says:

Not just offensive line coach, but assistant head coach, huh ?

    Nice.

Think being master of the wildcat has anything to do with this hire ?

Krapp didn’t have the brains to utilize TP. Smiling Titty Boy didn’t either.

    I know Sparano would have.

Wouldn’t it have been nice if the RAIDS had installed some packages for TP ?

Given him some field time and experience ?

No, I guess it was better that he was inactive virtually the entire season and MATT LICE was #2 because he knew KRAPP’S offense.

What vision ! What imagination !

TP TIME IS COMING SOONER THAN YOU THINK !

  121. RaidersAllday_LtsGeTit Says:

    excellent coment on pft

“He needs to play to gain confidence. Keep fine tuning his footwork and mechanics, but his biggest need now is experience. He made some bad throws because he looked unsure, and just lobbed the ball instead of firing a strike. In any capacity next season, he’ll definitely bring excitement with his big play ability. Starter or not he needs to be in the gameplan.”

someone from the uk chimes in

“Looking forward to Pryor. I hope he becomes a franchise guy. We love beating storylines to death. what better one then Al’s last pick who everyone wrote off leading the team for years. Then I’ll give him some new tats for some Raiders memorabilia.”

“Maybe, just maybe, Al’s last pick can become a winner for the Silver and Black.I think he’s got a decent shot based on his work ethic and obvious physical ability.”

    another fan

“If you looked at the San Diego game, his biggest weaknesses (touch and pocket presence) are still correctable. Another year working under QB coach Flip and a year working with an OC that has groomed young QB’s before could be just what he needs to make the leap.”

  122. The_Judge37 Says:

It would take big Money to get Long away from Miami. Money that the Raiders won’t/can’t cough up.

What i’d like to see is Reggie mix up his Tightass ways with a little bit of Al Davis cap manipulating, but it probably won’t happen this year.

  123. RaidersAllday_LtsGeTit Says:

    now get this guys.

    and draft Chance Warmack.

  126. Relentless Says:

R8 I heard that Long’s play has been regressing this year. But it also might be because Tony left the year before. As for TP I don’t understand why so many peeps hate his play. He brings a quick footed style that CP doesn’t have. CP buckles under pressure in the red zone and fumbles or throws an int. Yes he gets great yardage and moves us upfield but folds when we are in the red some. TP was able to easily get us a TD. It never hurts to make a change and see if someone else can do better. At this point and after this many years we can’t get any worse.

  127. ian85 Says:

We can debate whether this is a thing where everybody competes year in year out no matter what the position, but it’s a point saying you’d never hear a gm say it was open comp in GB, New Orl., NE or Balt. or NYG, or even Dallas or Chicago…

Let Pryor compete for. The starting job, why not?? We might go 8-8 with Carson next year. If they think they can fix Pryors accuracy issues, I’d rather go 6-10 with him next year to position ourselves to compete for the division in 2014.

    ====

Improving Pryor’s accuracy is about as likely as improving Palmer’s downfield speed. They’re both hard wired at this point. Accuracy comes first and foremost from quick decision making to determine exatly when, where and how the ball should be thrown to arrive at the right spot at the right time in the route. That takes split second reads. Pryor’s mental processor will not get any faster than Palmer’s legs.

That’s not true, Decision making improves with Experience and Practice. Pryor’s problem is not consistantly planting his feet and throwing, whether he can break that habit will determine his success.

    Good point.

McKenzie could of come out and said “Palmer is our QB” but he didn’t.

    Palmer is not HIS guy.

We can debate whether this is a thing where everybody competes year in year out no matter what the position, but it’s a point saying you’d never hear a gm say it was open comp in GB, New Orl., NE or Balt. or NYG, or even Dallas or Chicago…

    ———————————

Well said. and about our OC.. he hasnt had a chance to meet with pryor yet.. just wait till he does. Pryor will take over and having him dialing up plays for what he does best.

Palmer might not even be healthy despites what is out there.. and how will he hold up week 1? Palmer is being phased out.

  158. PurpleDrank81 Says:

Brian Winters was 1 of the best Tackles in College but due to playing at Kent State he never recieved any love. He looks like more of a guard in the NFL. This guy is a pure man beast and would do very well in the Power Blocking Scheme. If we drafted him we would have a pure mauler at guard. All I heard during the year from scouts was that he didnt play against solid defenses but now he’s at the Senior Bowl wrecking shop.

    ********

No it’s embarrassing to be brought up as the loser of that SB. Analysts and fans of other teams mock TB and keep talking about how the Bucs kicked the Raiders A$$ that day. That’s nothing to be proud of. It makes me sick to hear that again. I’d rather be that my team were ignored. Sad week

  161. The_Judge37 Says:

People need to remember Pryor is only 1.5 years into the League, with only one full offseason under John “I taught Jamarcus Russell and Mark Sanchez all they know” DeFilippo as a coach. And in that 1.5 seasons he’s only played in one game.

  164. 1960AutumnWind Says:

    Regarding the Brown story

There is no way Brown knows the motive for Calahan doing what he did. The fact is that he did drastically change the game plan right before the game! That is a fact coroborated by several players. Also factual is the Bucs knew the calls. That is cooroborated by both sides. No matter the motive Calahan totally let the Raiders down and his performance as coach for the SB has to go down as one of the worst coaching performances ever! And that goes for the “genious” Trestman that probably talked him into changing the scheme. The run it down their throat strategy pummled the Chiefs right before the play offs that year and is a great way to attack a cover 2.

He was scared of the Rush. He was looking more at the O-Line than down field. The only time he looked comfortable was when he was able to scramble to a side and cut the field in half. The very few times he did stand strong in the pocket and step into his throws, you could see his arm strength and accuracy. But it was his first game, which is why it would’ve been so much more benneficial to let him play in Carolina rather than Lame Duck Leinart.

Great hire. Sparano might know the pistol who really knows we’ll have to see. Pistol has the same ideas as wildcat, shotgun, and the spread offense. Thats why its so dangerous.

When the wildcat was a success. I cant remember the year. But teams mostly used it for just running the ball. Put an actually QB(with running and passing skills) in the wildcat with a running back behind him. Its “almost” the same formula. Sparano just might be the pistol guru.

IDK why SParano hire is getting a backlash, The guy was a head coach (well wasn’t a successful one) OC (wasn’t successful either) BUt He’s one of the best OL coach in football, all the other experience including head coaching wouldn’t hurt when he will only have to coach 8-9 guys

When the wildcat was a success. I cant remember the year. But teams mostly used it for just running the ball. Put an actually QB(with running and passing skills) in the wildcat with a running back behind him. Its “almost” the same formula. Sparano just might be the pistol guru.

Where is Long projected to go in the draft?

    4th

“NFL DRAFT SCOUT RISER: 3. Kyle Long, OT, Oregon: If there is one thing we have learned from past drafts, is that the NFL loves bloodlines. If a prospect is related to someone who played at the professional level in any capacity, that’s a big plus. The NFL is full of football families with the Mannings (Archie, Petyon, Eli) and the Matthews (Clay Sr, Clay Jr, Bruce, Clay III, Casey, Kevin) probably the most recognizable.

But the Longs are about to send another family member to the NFL. Kyle Long, the son of Pro Football Hall of Famer Howie and younger brother of Rams’ edge rusher Chris, isn’t a top prospect or defensive player like his elder kin. A two-sport athlete in high school, he decided to play baseball at Florida State and with a mid-90s fastball as a lefty, who could blame him for choosing his first love. But that only lasted a year as he struggled with academics and spent too much time partying, resulting in a DUI arrest.

After returning home, Kyle enrolled at Saddleback Junior College and later transferred to Oregon, moving from defensive end to the offensive line. With one final season of eligibility remaining, he has yet to start a game for the Ducks in 2012, but has seen extensive action with each week, playing most of Saturday’s game at left guard for Oregon. He is still very raw, but according to his father and brother, Kyle was blessed with the most natural talent of the three and the NFL will love his upside.”

That could be a problem, as a team source tells the Herald Long “likes the idea of being the best at what he does and one way he proves to everyone that he is is by being the highest paid at what he does.” According to the source, there’s a “considerable amount of professional ego.” With neither side sounding willing to negotiate on the other’s terms, it’s looking more likely Long will walk.

A source tells the Miami Herald the Dolphins made a “low-ball attempt” to lock-up impending free agent LT Jake Long during the season.
The Dolphins have sent mixed signals on the former No. 1 pick, but it’s clear they’re not going to sign him to a deal his pre-injury reputation would have commanded.

Obviously JC was an upgrade….. C’mon. He was one of the better QB’s we had in the last decade. I was HAPPY when we traded for him. No one could have known he’d get hurt. We were on a roll, the year went into a ditch that day. But bringing Palmer in, was a good move at the time.

If you lined up Campbell / Grads / Palmer next to each other, I pick Palmer any day of the week…I would. You throw Kapernick into that line-up, I’m picking Kappy over the OTHER 3. Nothing more to it. You could even throw Pryor into the line-up, and I’d STILL choose Kapernick.

JC lost his starting job in 2010 to poor play against the Rams. (Really, he didn’t know the play book). Are you saying that Grads didn’t separate his shoulder and wasn’t placed on IR in 2010?

“Owner Al Davis suggested earlier in the offseason that he was moving on from Bruce Gradkowski because of the free agent’s injury history.

Davis concedes that Gradkowski has it what it takes to be a successful QB in the NFL. On the other hand, “as good as Gradkowski is for a single game, we can’t hold up the injury factor from happening,” said Davis. “He incurs injuries, and that worries the hell out of me. And I like continuity.”

Expect to hear that line alot this year sir. unfortunately. We still don’t have a damn identity on this team. Wondered around an entire season tryin to figure out who we are….. STILL don’t know. Personally, our inability especially in the punt return game the last few years has been mind-numbing.

Since JLH returned a punt in 2009 for a TD, we have had 7 lost fumbles and zero TD’s in the punt return column. Hell, sometimes we can’t even fair catch a punt, and let a 43 yard punt roll into a 58 yarder.

    ___________________________________________

Sounds simpler than that: they’ve hired someone to work with the O-line, the ones we’ve got and the ones we’re about to get through the draft.

The lines, the lines, the lines. We have to establish an identity as a team that CAN push people around. We may not have the talent to do that from DE or DT yet, but we do have some guys on the O-line that should be getting more mileage out the meat they bring to it.

this is a great debate, as far as drafting line guys vs. skill guys… and you are all right, but it really comes down to value, if there is a guy at #3 but his value is not much better than a guy you could get at #9, 10, 12 whatever, then you attempt to move back and get more picks and draft the comparable guy (or just a bit less of a pick)later in the round and get an extra pick or two (but you have to have a trade partner to do this….if there is no one that wants your pick then you have to get the highest rated guy on your board, in order to receive “the best VALUE” for your pick…

Not sure. If we stay at #3, it will likely be a DE/LB or maybe qb if they’re in love.

Personally, I think that we should trade back and take as many lineman as possible. Skill position players won’t matter if we can’t rush the QB or control time of possession (Aso).

My only exception to this is acquiring a #1 FA WR, but that’s only because I’m reacting to another Al Davis Special–the developmental wide receiver. I’m tired of that cr@p, and even though it gives me Javon Walker flashbacks, we need to get Jennings. 1. tahj boyd clemson far and away the best prospect in the draft will be another wave of the future qb playing in a hybrid offense. It will depend on who is looking for qb next year but he should be the firts guy taken (although i odubt he will be)

    2. Devin grdner michigan at 6″4 200 he is a bit thin but he has a very strong arm and good mobility. he has shown a knack for making big plays when the game is on the line and protects the ball well

    ======

there is a major drop off at this point

murray bray and logan thomas all have parts of their games that are intriguing but all have had major warts as well

honorable mention aj maccaron and james franklin

maccaron is a solid game manger but doesnt wow you with any 1 aspect of his game. his l;ack of arm strength is shocking.

Franklin is a fantatsic play maker but has not been able to be consitent or stay healthy

over all this is a weak class once you get past gardner and boyd

  550. mcfadden20. Says:

Oline is mostly coaching, just sign some competent guys and let Sparano turn them into a solid group, if anything we should target for Oside, i think we should get a #1 WR, Solid TE to challenge Myers, Solid backup for Mcfadden, incase of injury, ON D side, i have stated many times, we were disastrous getting to QB’s, nobody wants to see shaugnessy as our starting DE again, i wouldn’t mind Carter back in his place, and Houston should not be the DE, we need to upgrade at that position, Houston should put up 10-20 Pounds and slide INside and we should resign Bryant and pair them together, Resign wheeler, sign a solid back up behind for competition, sign a MLB, draft FS

I think all of Al’s misses on DBs make fans a bit shy when it comes to drafting them or pursuing FAs (DHall/GWilson). Same thing applies to the Gallery pick, even though we have new management and scouts.

Al just drafted ALOT of DB’s every year. But we’ve never really had to worry about CB’s in the Al Davis era. From Willie B, to the Judge, Mike Haynes, Terry McDaniel, Woodson, Eric Allen, Nnamdi

Lets remember, the heisman winner is returning. But a guy who put up some of the most ridiculous numbers college football has ever seen, is behind a guy who started a third of the season cuz Darnell Robinson was hurt. Gardner, btw, had played we the while year until then.

What a clown. He’s the best.

    2006 – #5
    2007 – #3

Then he left for Miami and turned that team from a 1 win season into a playoff team.

If you’re surprised to see a wide receiver drafted this high in a year where many are saying the talent at the position is lacking, don’t be. Cordarrelle Patterson is a value at No. 12 overall.

The Dolphins’ best wide receiver right now is their quarterback, Ryan Tannehill, who spent two seasons split out wide at Texas A&M. Even with Brian Hartline showing some production this year, the Dolphins need to spend at least two picks on wide receivers in the early rounds.

Patterson is set up to dominate in this year’s class, as he’s the most physically gifted of the wide receivers and one of the few players who combines size, speed and downfield ability. If any player at the position has the potential to move up into the top 10, it’s Patterson.

and now we know. he looks them up. if he sees a black kid, on the list he goes!

  621. DJ Johnny Says:

…one more thing on Patterson; this is a kid who not only can make the big catches but he runs back punts and kickoffs and takes it to the house…or at least a long ways.

I wonder if Reggie will look at him closely with the fact Reggie is a former Vol himself.

  622. Just Fire Baby Says:

Hunter was the more touted guy coming into UT and into this year right?

Agree that he looks the part of a big-time stiff though.

  623. tuckrulefool Says:

Sure gannon..dream on…water boy doesnt throw 5 (FIVE) INTS in the biggest game of his career..you are more to blame than most for that debacle….sorry if u cant admit it…then again as long as u were a raider i NEVER heard u accept full on blame for anything…EVER…

“If you got on that plane Monday in Oakland and flew to San Diego to participate in the Super Bowl, whether you’re the owner, the head coach, the quarterback or the guy that passed out the tickets, you’re responsible for what took place down there.”

  624. ian85 Says:

so heres the real qb list for 2014 guys if manziel comes out he will be the first QB taken then no doubt it will be arron murray followed by aj mccarron after he wins another titile then mystics precious tahj boyd will be the 4th QB selected no doubt losing deandre hopkins to the draft this year will hurt boyd next year murray has everybody on offense returning minus taveres king but hes going to have monster numbers in 2013

  625. SaintKaufman Says:

The 2013 Pryor led offense soundtrack!

That’s right kids, who’s got the ball? It’s going left, nope, going right, nope, going left, nope getting sacked! JUST DON’T THROW IT!!!

  626. mcfadden20. Says:

( Cam Newton) blah blah… wave of future… EXPOSED … HAHAHA.. BLAH Blah… RGIII.. ZONE option…. BLAH BLAH… I WAS right ALL Along… BLAH BLAH.. (Insert Black QB’s name ) BLAH BLAH… PAlmers total TDS total turnovers … Blah blah … etc. etc… WIlson… Blah blah

  627. J Hill Says:

    Nash is the problem, JFB.

He can’t do ANYTHING without a screen. Too slow to get in the lane, and too unathletic to do anything with the ball when he is in the lane. Has he scored? i know I’ve seen AT LEAST 4 turnovers.

  628. ian85 Says:

man mystic just takes a pounding on here lol u think he would just take his ball and go home dude takes more facial shots than a cheap whore on a saturday night

looking at my 2014 qb list here is my list for the best qbs for that year

    1. tahj boyd clemson far and away the best prospect in the draft will be another wave of the future qb playing in a hybrid offense.

    ======

there is a major drop off at this point

murray bray and logan thomas all have parts of their games that are intriguing but all have had major warts as well

honorable mention aj maccaron and james franklin

maccaron is a solid game manger but doesnt wow you with any 1 aspect of his game. his l;ack of arm strength is shocking.

Franklin is a fantatsic play maker but has not been able to be consitent or stay healthy

over all this is a weak class once you get past gardner and boyd
    =====================================================

Just read most of this on a couple draft boards. Nice copy and paste.

  630. ian85 Says:

cant believe that dumbass said manziel would come out in 2016 wtf is mystic smoking everyone knows he was a redshirt freshman this year obviously mystic doesnt do his homework on white QBS what a fcking moron

  631. dr_robert Says:

wow, missdick goes to cbs’ prospect rankings. figures out which ones are black. starts touting them and acts like he discovered them.

    how pathetic. EXPOSED!

  632. CDERaider Says:

Sporano given the title ‘Assistant Head Coach’ as well as oline coach. Great move by the Raiders, Sporano’s motivating in your face style is a perfect complement to DA’s stoic approach. Plus, he is a run-first power blocking advocate which is exactly what this team needs to get the offense back on track. With Saunders still on payroll focusing on the passing game, we might have something. Palmer is a better QB than Sporano ever had in NY or Miami and DMAC as good or better as he’s ever had at RB, things are looking up.

Raiders offense could be back in the top 15 next year if Reggie can get a legit RT and LG.

  633. ian85 Says:

anwyays back to some real football talk patriots right tackle sebastion volmer is a free agent would love it if the raiders signed him veldheer and volmer would give us some nice tackles for many years

no. according to him, he is fighting white supremacy being here, fighting the fight.

    what…….a……….loser

  635. ian85 Says:

corderelle patterson si a stud he was the number one juco reciever last year before coming to the VOLS kid can light it up plus like someone said earlier he is a return guy nice size and speed also i believe hes 6 foot 2 220lbs if we had a second we prob could get him

  636. ian85 Says:

hahaha well DR he is losing that fight lol

  637. The Amazing Spiderman Says:

The QB class of 2014 is rife with talent and this so called “wave of the future” barely makes a dent.

    1-Aaron Murray Ga
2-Tyler Bray Tenn (in this yr’s draft)
    3-AJ McCarren Ala.
    4-Zach Mettenberger LSU
    5-Tajh Boyd-Clemson *
    6-Logan Thomas VaTech *
    7-David Carr-Fresno St.
    8-David Fales San Jose St.
    9-Brynn Renner North Carolina
    10-Jeff Mathews Cornell

That’s the top 10 list from CBS SPORTS for the class of 2014

Notice there are only TWO (2) “Wave of the Future” QB’s on that list.

So much for a “Tsunami” of “Wave of the Future” Qb’s.

You don’t like the list? Take it up with CBS Sports. You know..the people who do this sort of thing for a living, as opposed to some psychotic cartoon character named idiot poster who only talks about a certain type of QB.

    EAT IT!

  638. DJ Johnny Says:

I don’t see Manziel on that list, unless CBS had him coming out in 2015.

  639. ian85 Says:

hahaha well said spiderman i love it great list

  640. RaidersAllday_LtsGeTit Says:

    1. Johnny Football

    2. Teddy bridgewater

    3. Keith Price Qb (washington)

all top qbs for next year too.. way b4 that list cbs put out

wave of the future remains.. bridgewater can throw and run.. only he wants to stay in the pocket to throw.

Johnny football.. well .. well NUFF SAID

  641. RaidersAllday_LtsGeTit Says:

walter football has Aj mccaron 14th ranked qb next year

    A.J. McCarron, QB, Alabama
    Height: 6-4. Weight: 210.
    Projected 40 Time: 4.79.
    Projected Round (2014): 6-FA.
9/4/12: McCarron is a carbon copy of other Alabama quarterbacks who are game managers, but real passing threats. Like John Parker Wilson or Greg McElroy, McCarron is not a standout passer, but he is intelligent and doesn’t lose the game for his team.

McCarron had the luxury of a tremendous running game and defense to carry Alabama to a National Championship in 2011. He completed 67 percent of his passes for 2,634 yards with 16 touchdowns and five interceptions. Perhaps Alabama will let McCarron throw the ball more as a junior and senior.

  642. RaidersAllday_LtsGeTit Says:

    walter football

    has

    1. Clowney going to the Raiders

    2. Johnny football going to the Jets

    3. Teddy Bridgewater Louisville going 3rd

  644. backstageatapuppetshow Says:

The football side of the building is a joke….

I was waiting until the season ended to share my final thoughts on RM….but he has failed…

If McKenzie had correctly realized his hiring of ALLEN was a mistake that would have been fine, he could have moved on and tried again….after all, hiring a Head Coach is ONLY 1 part of his job….talent evaluation and conducting the personnel department is tough enough….However, failure to SEE that the man he hired is COMPLETELY IGNORANT is NOW unforgivable as he has chosen to support him.

If I was Mark Davis….I would FIRE everyone….

    Start OVER…NOW!

The PLAN that was SUPPOSED to be in place is little more than a GLORIFIED fire DRILL….

1st, Mark Davis hires RM based on the recommendation of Madden & Wolf….two men who are far past their prime with little to no accountability to the decision.

2nd, McKenzie hires his GUY, DA….

Mind you this is all part of a plan…

3rd, DA decides on Knapp, Tarver, and Hoffman….

4th, Season ensues….team finishes 4-12….arguably the worst Defense in the organizations history….the TEAM hitches it HAT on the ZBS, tells the fans to be patient….

Fans are patient….and McFadden has worst season in the history of his FOOTBALL life….

5th, prior to the season finale, DA says Pryor isn’t even ready to be a backup in the NFL…..then the NEXT week….Pryor starts a game and leads the Offense to 3 TD’s when we hadn’t scored in 3 weeks….

6th, Allen says Pryor has earned a right to be evaluated…

7th, DA fires Knapp and Hoffman….when it twas the defense that was arguably the worst in the teams history….

8th, we hire Jags QB coach to take over Offense…a team who we beat this season….

9th, we hire Sparano to lead the Offensive Line….a guy who’s career is on the way down….not up….

Mind you….this is ALL part of a MASTER PLAN….

Reggie McKenzie are so INTELLIGENT that they KNEW that Sparano and Olsen would be jobless this season….

Hey REGGIE AND DENNIS….do you play CHESS?

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fZXtCHoRb50

    Welcome to the NEW ERA!

  645. CDERaider Says:

‘Wave of the future’ QB doesn’t work unless you can pocket pass consistently and don’t get hurt running. When you get ACL’s in your first season. RG3 is done after next season unless he move to exclusively pocket passing. He’s had 3 knee surgeries now – another one and he’s done. Wilson and Kap are stout physically and won’t get hurt easily. To some extent, Pryor is the same in that way, he’s big and won’t get hurt easily – but he needs to prove he can throw with sound mechanics in the pocket and not run on every down. He hasn’t proved that yet – even in college. But I love him in the red zone as another weapon for us next season.

  648. Derek Says:

FACT: Carson Palmer is a decent NFL QB, but not a winner. He never has been and NEVER will be. He is far too trunover prone in the clutch. Winners thrive in the clutch, losers choke. Noteam in the NFL could or would win Superbowl utilizing Carson palmer as their starter.

Cincy became a MUCH better team once they replaced Palmer with an average QB who’s not as mistake/turnover prone.
