The Raiders have hired Tony Sparano to coach the offensive line and serve as assistant head coach, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Wednesday.

this is a great debate, as far as drafting line guys vs. skill guys… and you are all right, but it really comes down to value, if there is a guy at #3 but his value is not much better than a guy you could get at #9, 10, 12 whatever, then you attempt to move back and get more picks and draft the comparable guy (or just a bit less of a pick)later in the round and get an extra pick or two (but you have to have a trade partner to do this….if there is no one that wants your pick then you have to get the highest rated guy on your board, in order to receive “the best VALUE” for your pick…

Love Smith for Linebackers Coach/Assistant HC!

Stop going through the motions, Reggie! Sparano is a diet minority.

Put your pants and hire Lovie now!

The real question is, are any of these top 10 picks franchise changers?

maybe…but we have so many holes, we could really use another 2-3 mid round picks…

I believe RM will do his best to trade out and dazzle us with his nose for talent in the mid to late rounds, and who knows maybe even trade a high profile guy to get even more picks (Mcfadden?)….

    wouldn’t hurt my feelings any…

I support Pryor. My wife supports neither QB. She says draft one. So I hit her. :D

Reggie said all the right things, things you have to say. I mean, if he said, “Terrelle will never make it” or “TP is only good as a runner,” or “Hell, no, he’s our number 2 (or 3)” he would have 1) announced to all other 30+ teams that no way would a trade for TP benefit them and 2) he would have announced to Pryor that he should just stay put in his place with no hope of ever contributing to the team.

I swear, some of you guys just live in fantasyland.

star Lotuleli may be worth a top 5 pick, but why isn’t he at the senior Bowl competing?

I don’t like that, it’s almost like they (top 10 guys) don’t want to be exposed or made to look average?

none of the DE’s that are projected really excite me (except maybe the germinator/Werner), there are some late 1st rounders and mid rounders that look equally as good at that posn.

  • J Hill

Anyone know anything about this WR from Tennesee?

Is he worth a top 15 pick?

  • kuhlest

Trufant looks like a beast CB at senior bowl!

The QBs are being extra dumb not playing, imo. Why not play your way into being the top pick?????

Good point, but at the same time when your team goes through two full games without scoring a TD, then it couldn’t really hurt to help out the Offense either.

It really had more to do with G (3 n out) Knapp, With Hue, we should have average atleast 24 PPG, even with a #1 WR

Mcf20–When carter started getting going and at the same time Adams and Ross were getting time. And when McClain was out. That’s when suddenly the defense got a lot better. I’m not against getting a superstar RDE but they coul possibly decide to build on the last three games by resigning carter (he’s a good pass rusher for sure) and build the offensive line.

Not sure. If we stay at #3, it will likely be a DE/LB or maybe qb if they’re in love.

If we trade down, it really could be Warmack or Milliner.

A case could be made that our biggest hole is actually CB, since Adams is pribably one, and Ross could take Huffs spot.

  • J Hill

Young guys Adams, Ross, and Chekwa will CLEARLY be playing big minutes in our secondary last year.

In case you missed it, we are going with WAY more 2 and 3 DL sets on 2nd and 3rd down.

Where you realisically see starting positions open on defense?

I say ILB, CB, and OLB.

I think we need a veteran CB. I’d like to see us go after Anthony Spencer to play OLB.

Use the draft to upgrade the offense.

Yeah they did play better down the stretch, but most of the pressure was still with extra pass rusher, not with normal pressure, JT and DA got better with game planning as the season went on, just imagine them drawing up crazy game plans, once they get a few guys who could get to QBs with out much help, Our O should average over 20 anyways with a better OC, n back to PBS, should get a better RT and WR group should improve

  • J Hill

Best defense is a good offense!

7 minute drives keep the other offense on the sidelines!

  • dr_robert

Basically we went 4-12 so there are several needs.

    DT
    RDE
    CB
    MLB
    OL
    WR
    FB
QB of the future (Wave type or traditional)

Our Defense went from 29th to 18th overall….the last 4 weeks, regardless of competition, we were 4th overall and 2nd in scoring def….Id say that’s trending the right way….Watching Tarver at Senior bowl practice, he seems like a good get to me…..

I think Ross plays a better S than Corner.

I think Chekwa earns the other starting spot.

I think all of Al’s misses on DBs make fans a bit shy when it comes to drafting them or pursuing FAs (DHall/GWilson). Same thing applies to the Gallery pick, even though we have new management and scouts.

Personally, I think that we should trade back and take as many lineman as possible. Skill position players won’t matter if we can’t rush the QB or control time of possession (Aso).

My only exception to this is acquiring a #1 FA WR, but that’s only because I’m reacting to another Al Davis Special–the developmental wide receiver. I’m tired of that cr@p, and even though it gives me Javon Walker flashbacks, we need to get Jennings. DBowe won’t come here unless we pay him a fortune, and we can barely afford to keep the lights on.

  • Mistic1 Tha Supavillain

looking at my 2014 qb list here is my list for the best qbs for that year

    1. tahj boyd clemson far and away the best prospect in the draft will be another wave of the future qb playing in a hybrid offense. It will depend on who is looking for qb next year but he should be the firts guy taken (although i odubt he will be)

    2. Devin grdner michigan at 6″4 200 he is a bit thin but he has a very strong arm and good mobility. he has shown a knack for making big plays when the game is on the line and protects the ball well

    ======

there is a major drop off at this point

murray bray and logan thomas all have parts of their games that are intriguing but all have had major warts as well

honorable mention aj maccaron and james franklin

maccaron is a solid game manger but doesnt wow you with any 1 aspect of his game. his l;ack of arm strength is shocking.

Franklin is a fantatsic play maker but has not been able to be consitent or stay healthy

over all this is a weak class once you get past gardner and boyd

  • mcfadden20.

Oline is mostly coaching, just sign some competent guys and let Sparano turn them into a solid group, if anything we should target for Oside, i think we should get a #1 WR, Solid TE to challenge Myers, Solid backup for Mcfadden, incase of injury, ON D side, i have stated many times, we were disastrous getting to QB’s, nobody wants to see shaugnessy as our starting DE again, i wouldn’t mind Carter back in his place, and Houston should not be the DE, we need to upgrade at that position, Houston should put up 10-20 Pounds and slide INside and we should resign Bryant and pair them together, Resign wheeler, sign a solid back up behind for competition, sign a MLB, draft FS
