Ravens’ Johnson grateful to Hue, Raiders

Former Raiders cornerback Chris Johnson, who asked for his release last season while recovering from a family tragedy, was grateful to former coach Hue Jackson and the organization for the support he got after his sister was killed and his mother was shot in an alleged domestic dispute.

Johnson, a reserve cornerback for the Baltimore Ravens, said Jackson, along with defensive backs coaches Rod Woodson and Kevin Ross as well as Raiders legend Willie Brown, checked on him constantly. Johnson also feels indebted to late owner Al Davis, who made him a starting cornerback at age 29 and paid him accordingly.

“I’m very thankful for what Mr. Davis did for me,” Johnson said. “I love that organization, the organization was good to me and my family.”

Johnson thought the decision to fire Jackson was a mistake, and asked about his observations about the differences between the Ravens and the Raiders, he did not pull any punches:

– “Hue was an outspoken coach, and that’s what you want as a player, you want somebody to go to war for you and talk and let him do the talking and the players are going to do the backing up. Hu was the best coach I had since I was out there. I mean, we went 8-8, we was a good, solid team, you could see the identity of the team. I don’t know what was said, he wasn’t for the team or whatever, that was a straight lie. Hue had the best interests for the team and there were some of the guys in that locker room _ some of the key guys in that locker room _ that weren’t leaders. Here, on this team, Ray (Lewis) controls that locker room.”

– “I’d put it like this, if you put Ray Lewis in the Oakland locker room, probably a good 20 people wouldn’t be on that team, because pf the way Ray runs his ship, and manning up the guys. In Oakland the guys weren’t like that I mean, I’m not going to call no names, but the high guys you’re supposed to put the position on, they weren’t leaders, you talk a good game but they weren’t playing a good game. Ray does that. That was more of the thing that was wrong with Oakland, they were getting guys that didn’t love the game.”

Johnson took in his 14-year-old niece, while his nephew is living with his mother, now fully recovered physically.

The nightmare will be revisted later this month when Esters goes on trial on Texas.

“It’s going to bring all the emotions right back up,’’ Johnson said. “We’ll try to deal with that after the Super Bowl. Hopefullly on Sunday we’ll be able to hold up that trophy.’’

I think Ausberry got himself into the doghouse somehow. Only way I can explain it. That or he just wasn’t executing the plays to the coaches liking.

I also don’t see how Ausberry doesn’t beat out Meyers.

  • bcz24

especially if you have a qb that can maximize what they bring to the table the way jc did, or like pryor did in his lone start
    ******************
The Legend completed 7 passes for 95 yards to WR’s in his lone start and his 2 TDs were for 5 and 9 yards, so he obviously wasn’t maximizing their deep threat potential.… if that is maximizing their potential, then our WR’s are much worse than I thought
All of our WR’s would be good complimentary pieces, but we don’t have a true #1 receiver. This is a big drawback for our offense.

  • mcfadden20.

Poor M1st1c probably hates every white QB, now he likes Flacco, what a joke

  • mcfadden20.

JC maximized our Wide receivers potential? with his 150 yards per game? LMFAO

So we are going on to tarps now too huh?

Yikes, does it get any more obvious that we need a new stadium, ASAP?

Hard to judge offensive guys on our team w/ Knappy running the O.
Everyone regressed on offense w/ the exception of Myers and Veldy.

  • Dan78

Guest im borderline line Star or D Moore… But a lot of people mention Jarvis Jones as our pick…

  • Dan78

I wonder if Raiders will sell sponsorship and plaster it all over the tarps…

  • Just Fire Baby

Ausberry can’t block and can’t seem to run too many routes.

As a 23 year old senior at USC, he had 25 catches.

He will be lucky to be on an NFL roster next season.

  • Dan78

How about you DMAC if you had a shot at the top Defensive player on the draft who are you taking…

  • mcfadden20.

I’ll be fine with Damontre Moore, but if he’s not there, i’ll be okay with trading down and getting 2nd/3rd best pass rusher and accumulating 2 extra picks

I say tds from your top wr talent is far more important than yards, and is in essence maximizing the talent

also streater myers and reec were targeted and had opportunities to make plays.

pryor spread the ball around and with starter reps i think they will only improve on his lone start.

Also i think the wr reece and dmac become far more dangerous on broken plays as they will have a chance to operate in space after the catch, that is how dmoe scored

yep he maximized the talent of the group with less than a week splitting starting reps

Ausberry doesn’t run good routes, has marginal hands, doesn’t time his jump right, looks athletic without so much being coordinated. Can’t block for schite. Celebrates after every catch like it was a TD. Not a natural TE, don’t know what they saw in him to think he could adapt his game after a career as a WR.

I don’t see Ausberry in the long term plan.

  • mcfadden20.

Last 5 Superbowl winners had how many rushing yards combined? i think some one posted a stat, something like -1 or 1 yard, GTFO with that stupid Wave OF FUTURE BS LOL

I believe it’s smoke Reggie wont show his hand he is trying to make the chefs draft for geno or have someone jump ahead of us and take him… This happens every year teams start the rumors…

  • Just Fire Baby

Ausberry is really good at recovering onside kicks, so there is his niche to carve at an NFL pension.

You don’t see him running anything other than something vertical. Deep along the sideline, or comeback along the sideline.

Not much else. Nothing over the middle, no crossing routes.

Can anyone tell me how Ausberry performed and was used in college?

For the life of me, I can’t figure out why this guy isn’t a star. What are his downsides that he wasn’t a star in college (I am presuming he wasn’t, maybe I’m wrong) and hasn’t become our first string TE?

    =============

Well, there’s two of us. He did decent at USC in a crowded receiving corps. Didn’t set the world on fire but, he was reliable.

I remember his 1st catch last season; a little 5 yard dump…. The LB was coming in from the side and OZ tossed him to the ground like he was swatting a fly, then ran up field and put a move on the DB and gained an extra 5. I think that play went for 17 after breaking a tackle and eluding another…..

I don’t know why the FU*K they didn’t use that Hog Molly more than they did either…..

It depends w/ what our base D will be.

    In a 4-3 I like Werner.
    In a 3-4 I like Mingo.
Wouldn’t be mad if we drafted G. Smith, tho.

  • mcfadden20.

Dual threat is nothing, everyone is putting up points on board, because the league has gone soft, you can’t even touch a receiver anymore, you have to think 500 times before making a tackle, but still at the end of the Pocket QB won again, better luck next year to all the dual threat worshippers

  • Dan78

our Main problem is the D-Line… That’s where our first pick should be at…

  • Just Fire Baby

Yup last 5 Super Bowl winning QB’s (Flacco, Eli, Rodgers, Brees’, Big Ben) had -1 yards rushing combined in those games.

    Flacco didn’t attempt a run.

If we stay at #3 and Geno isn’t on the board, Mingo is my pick.

Out of Jones, Werner, Moore and Mingo, odds say one is going to be a massive bust, and I think Mingo has maybe the least “Bust” potential to him of the mix.

A guy with a Humvee body like that needs only to run a few yds, find a soft spot in the middle, and stand there waiting for the ball to be delivered. There should be no way for anyone to be able to reach around him to bat the ball away.

I’m baffled because he has the perfect body to always be the qb’s first down maker…but he’s not.

And, as for blocking…why would a guy like that not be a superb blocker…unless he just doesn’t care to be?

Spread it around you say, 3 WR’s caught balls. Our STARTING WR’s had a combined 3 receptions. Come on man, you can do better than that. Oh and why does The Legend get a pass for not getting all the reps that week? Palmer doesn’t get a pass from you when he wasn’t even in the NFL for the whole week leading up to the game.

again this is an over simplification.

There have been 100 x more so called pocket qbs, therefore they have had far more opportunities to win it all.

As the numbers of different style qbs increase so will the opportunities for them to win.

    Its simple math nothing more

*****If Reggie and DA have plans about reducing the seating capacity, does that mean they do not know how to put a winning team on the field so they can fill the seats?

    ******************************

I think it is more to do with him being a career WR.

Tough to play WR in college, than be asked to go block Demarcus Ware on the edge occasionally.

Do any of these “hybrid” guys, at ANY position, have long-standing successful careers?

Can’t think of too many. Troy P, Ngata, maybe Colston. Sure I am missing a few, but seems most of these tweener/hybrid guys at best have a few good years before fading away.
