Raiders close `Mt. Davis’ _ capacity 53,200

The Raiders announced Wednesday they will reduce capacity at O.co Coliseum by nearly 10,000 to 53,200 in 2013 and relocate approximately 4,850 fans from the east side high-rise structure known as “Mt. Davis.’’

Raiders CEO Amy Trask described the decision as a “tool’’ to insure games remain on local television as well as promote more of a community atmosphere.

Fans who paid $260 per season ticket on the east side structure will be moved to the west side third deck and their tickets will cost $250 this season _ or $10 per game including preseason games.

Fans near the 50-yard line in the third deck who were paying $610 per ticket will have their ticket prices cut to $250.

The Raiders had just one television blackout in eight regular-season games in 2012 with help from the NFL’s `85 percent’’ rule, which allowed them to declare a sellout (and give the NFL a bigger cut of the ticket sales) if 85 percent of their non-suite tickets were sold by Thursday.

The average regular-season attendance for the Raiders in 2012 was 54,217.

Trask said closing of the east structure would be made in lieu of the 85 percent rule. The club is also planning to eliminate other “tools’’ to achieve sellouts such as 2-for-1 ticket giveaways sponsored by companies such as Compass Media and Hawaiian Airlines.

The A’s have tarped off sections of the third deck since 2006, reducing capacity for baseball to the 34,000 range. The Jacksonville Jaguars have reduced capacity by approximately 10,000 in the same manner.

According to Trask, NFL rules state that once a club closes off a section, it cannot be re-opened for any games regardless of ticket demand _ even in the case of the postseason.

Trask said the Raiders are continuing to focus their energy for a new stadium on the current site and have been in talks with the city and county, with the next round of discussions coming next week.

What a difference a year makes. Last February, this blog had 10 new pages load each week, 40 total including a weekly chat. Go check out the archives…

Can anyone give me a single reason to be optimistic about SBT (Smiling Titty Boy) ?

Hard to imagine a worse debut than the one STB gave us.

Assembled one of the schittiest staffs imaginable.

Stuck with his butt buddy Krapp the entire year when it was obvious that Krapp was destroying the offense.

Didn’t make effective use of the roster (see TP and Taiwan).

Lied to the press about Goethel practicing long snapping. Goethel exposed STB as a lying douche.

Squad seemingly unprepared and BLOWN OUT on an almost weekly basis.

Smiled like the biotch he is after getting his azz handed to him by the hated Mules. Apparently, STB was happier for his friend John Fux, than he was upset about getting buttfkd in Denver.

Someone give me a reason to be optimistic about STB.

Penalties down ? Benching Slo ?

    That it ?

More I think about it, the more depressed I am that STB is back.

Should have been shown the door with Krapp.

    STB = NRM

    NOT RAIDER MATERIAL.

At least Jerry would tip us off that he was going on vacation in late June for 15 days and have Becker throw a bone every now and again while we waited patiently.

Last yr at this time, go look up the blog posts. Reggie was making moves, cutting, talking restructures, etc. What this year he’s doing nothing? All the Raiders moves hide under a tarp atop Mt Davis?

Basically the whole thing is one GIANT Crap-shoot spectacle. There’s arguements and counter arguements to every single thing; for every decision.

    Signing top notch FA’s doesn’t mean sh*t
    NOT signing FA’s doesn’t mean sh*t
Who you draft doesn’t mean sh*t

The only thing that really matters, is where you are when you play the last game…..In the Reg? Post season? Super Bowl?
Hindsight is the most powerful force at work here. When the season is over, the ONLY thing you can say is…

    “That decision was GOOD….”
    And
    “That decision was Turrrible.”

About everything…… The future is unknown, and everything else is a complete variable left to pure specualtion.

Some folks claim victory over correct “Predictions”….Congrats, your plaque is in the mail. You could have just as easily been Dead Wrong too.

Whoever we draft, I’ll be anxious to see play. Don’t care if it’s DA, or Gruden coaching…Both could succeed or Fail. I’ll judge them game by game, and when the season is over… Clean slate.
I guess I just won’t get too worked up over ANY offseason proceedings, but I’ll continue to lose my freakin mind every single Sundsy. That’s all.

someone posted the trailer for this yesterday, here is the full episode

    Jamarcuss road back

Let me say that i was a huge fan when he was at lsu and I was sure we had our franchise qb when he was drafted. We all know the story, and eventually the year before he was cut I decided that i was no longer a supporter of russel. i was a light weigth club promoter in the town at the time and far too many times i would see no. 2 and entourage partying only to see him play poorly on sunday. I also heard the barber shop talk and it wasnt good.

What has come out in thew ash since was aside from the challenges in the raider org, ( lack of experience wrs, oline, poor coaching) Jamarcuss was basically a kid from a 1 pony town thrust into the fast oakland streets with huge sums of money. He also had no adult guidance, to teach him nutrition, or good habits or work ethic, or how to distinguish positive and negative influences and relationships. These are all learned practices. As he floundered he deflected responsibility. An entitled athlete that never had to work for anything didnt handle his shortcomings well, as many young men struggle with. The difference is jamarcuss was a starting nfl qb, so his shortcomings were on national tv week to week, where most young men are unknown to general society.

One thing i can see on the video is his talent still impresses everyone that knows football. Both jeff garcia to marshall fualk fit in this group. However his talent has never been a question.

More importantly in this video you will see that jamarcuss has attained humility, and has accepted the challenge of becoming a better man. He has matured and accepted responsibility for his own condition and the outcome of his own efforts. This is the main ingredient he lacked when he was here.

For him to allow this journey to be recorded and published for the public consumption could be viewed by some as self serving. I will say that there is a dual benefit and purpose. This video also clearly and openly shows his willingness to broadcast his failings, and his effort to rebuild him self.

jamarcuss appears to be doing this not for money, BUT FOR SELF RESPECT AND PRIDE!!

this is a his chance to leave a POSITIVE IMPACT ON THE MINDS OF THE BLACK YOUTH OF HIS COMMUNITY!!!!!

He is sending a message that you must be accountable, you must work regardless of the blessings or natuarl talent you wre born with.

he is showing that even falling from the highest peaks, i the public eye, it is about what you do to correct your own failings.

Jamarcuss doesnt even need to make an nfl roster for this to be powerful for Black men world wide.

Simply giving his best effort while in the face of constant criticism and adversity is an example of Black manhood.

I am proud of this young man. he realizes how he is being viewed by the black youth and he is doing something about it.

I wish more athletes/ entertainers would consider the way their actions impact our Black communities.

As of now his story no longer ends with cut from the nfl. His effort to come back and rebuild himself and restore his name and dignity is the latest and most important chapter of his young life.

No matter how this ends I will continue to use jamarcuss russel as one of the tools i use when speaking to the youth about professional athletes and entrainment, only now i will include a lesson on manhood with it.

Im an extension of his folks in alabama, and he as an extension of myself.

I want for my brother what i want for myself, and i ma rooting for him 100%

True, but a lot these teams that have fantastic skill positions also have terrible offense lines.

How do you feel about Raiders o-line? The Palmer haters say it’s awesome.

Personally, I think they had to think too much last yr. as opposed to just playing football; always worrying about being in the right position etc. I understand that sounds like a weird theory but I think that plays into the issues we had on the line.

That play in Cincy where one of our linemen (can’t remember who) was so ridiculous. He’s just bent over…NOT MOVING AT ALL with no one to block.

They showed the replay of it and it was one of the more blatant indications that something just wasn’t right with this whole thing.

    =============

O God I totally remember that play…Fing ridiculous…it was right between the phantom block in the back call and the bogus out of bounds call…i remember rewinding it and being like “WTf this fool didn’t even move!”

Reggie and DA are on my watch list. I am still sipping the Kool-Aid. I kinda forgive him on the corner issue, he roled the dice on 3 one year contracts and none of the guys stepped up. Do you think Lee, Bartell and Spencer were worthy gambles and that a reasonable expectation was that one/two would have stepped up? Although I still don’t understand why Lee was released?

Yes. To be fair, I thought at the time, the Bartell acquisition was a good one. Bartell was rated very highly as a corner before we got him….one of those unsung players. The thinking was that his neck was healed and he’d come back as he was before the injury.

Spencer? I couldn’t talk myself into liking that one from the start.

  • DutchRaider77

  • hwnrdr

If Russell is doing this for pride, then good fro him. Yes, talent was not a question, but I cannot bring myself to root for this guy only because my expectations of him and he has let me and the Raiders down. To say he had no cast of characters around him is somewhat refutable. Didn’t he have the same team that Bruce had in Pitsburgh? I mean, whatevers…but he never showed me anything really moving forward that he really wanted to succeed here…but I won’t fault the guy for waking up years later and realizing that he really can do this!!!

Why would anyone consider just the base in deciding whether to restructure or cut any player?

    ********************************

Because the base is what you are restructuring.

Palmer, 7th highest base in the NFL AT ANY POSTION NEXT YEAR.
    ===============================================

Again, it’s not like Palmer just signed himself to these deals. Cinncy did, Jackson did and now McKenzie has. 3 different orgs have. And now after a year some fans think it too much. I was going over cap numbers last night. Romo’s is $17mm. Sanchez is $13mm. Cassell is $10+mm. Palmer is $15mm which is about what Rivers gets. Peyton and Flacco are going to be in the $20+mm range. That is kind of the going market.

  • DJ Johnny

Someone said Russell needs to lose 8o lbs. to play again which would put him at 228. I’d suggest he needs to get down to around 250 or so to be at the weight he had coming out of college. Wasn’t he 255 at LSU?

The weight thing will be the biggest indication to prospective teams that Russell is serious about this. Imo.

    JR

Another example of a Raider missed draft opportunity.
The inability to draft well has been the primary reason for the failures of this team for the last ten years.

ROUNDS ONE AND TWO THE LAST 10 YEARS.
2002 Phillip Buchanon, Nap Harris, Langston Walker, Doug Jolley
2003 Nnamdi, Tyler Brayton, Teyo Johnson
    2004 Robert Gallery, Jake Grove
    2005 Fabian Washington, Stanford Routt
    2006 Michael Huff, Thomas Howard
    2007 JAMRCUS RUSSELL, Zack Miller
    2008 DMAC
    2009 DHB, Mike Mitchell
    2010 Rolando McClain, Lamarr Houston
    2011 Stefan Wiz

As far as JR goes, his worth as a person can be demonstrated in many ways. He does not have to be a succesful NFL QB to be a positive impact in someone’s life.
He failed with the Raiders as a QB and it clearly hurt the franchise.
End of story. Let it go. It is very, very old news.

  • logic82

I haven’t read a single report that states; Pryor will compete with Palmer for the role of starting QB. Every statement by RM, DA, and Olson either dance around it or gives faint praise to Pryor and gushes over CP.

Palmer will not restructure. He is probably praying he gets cut. He gets over 9 million if cut. Again, that 9.4 is not just dead dead money. Its real money and will be added to the cap in addition to his other cap monies if cut. The raiders wind up paying about the same money if they cut Palmer or keep him because they have to spend 4 to 7 million to get another a QB. May as well keep CP.

    ===========================

    Nope

russels story of failure and acceptance is bigger than sports. It just so happens he is an athlete and former number 1 pick. This story has been written several times over. i know of several black men that were young and in trouble with the law but found a way to reform themselves and become positive examples for their communities. It isnt about sports at all, sports is only the vessel that conveys the lesson.

Al davis loved the raiders, and employed black people because he thought he could win. i would never try to pin any other reasons for it other than pure business.

russel is working with test facility and Is making an effort to remake himself.

Funny you say “there is no black community”. Then what are we N*gg*s?

I know tons of black people trying to make a difference on the black community, maybe we just operate in totally different worlds.

I dont accept the term N*gg@ negro or amerikkkan, and neither do those that I am working with or those involved int he struggle. You may not be aware or want to be a part but speak for yourself.

Black people make up 12% of the population here, but more than 50% of the prison rate male and female.

Ill continue to work to resolve this, you can choose to stand on not to. Im sure that you care about the black youth in your own family, so we can build from there. I will respect your being a man and good example for your own family, and you can respect our view on community.

Yep and may as well prepare for 5-11…..good post

Romo’s is $17mm. Sanchez is $13mm. Cassell is $10+mm. Palmer is $15mm which is about what Rivers gets. Peyton and Flacco are going to be in the $20+mm range.

All those guys are overpaid except Flacco.

    @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

No he did not! That was the 1st game that season where the offense wasn’t saddled with DHB as the starter. Chaz and JLH started, two guys that JR had success with in 2008 and to end the 2009 season. Louis Murphy was the 3rd WR which he should have been all season as a rokie. The guy didn’t need an All Pro supporting cast, but at least give him Chaz. He was hurt for most of 2009.

I know that. I mean to provoke the ire that Russell deserved among Raider fans. Little talent? Move on. Loads of talent and don’t give a sch1t? Fck you!
    Or you just being funny?

a wise man once said yesterday is dead tomorrow is blind

I got nothing against j Russell I don’t wish him any harm and personally I don’t give a damn what he does.

They will probably redo Plmers contract and spread it out over three years four years

you people that hate, Carson Palmer have to realize this team has to win this year

were trying to get a new stadium pull your head out of your ASS Carson Palmer can when it’s a few games over eight I hope who else are you going to get past when you draft a rookie in the future this whole franchise on one man’s back new people just don’t get it>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

    Logic,

It is WIDELY reported that Carson has no more guaranteed money left on his deal.

    $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

    -Nnamdi: PB CB
-T Brayton: played well for the Panthers as a base end.
-Robert Gallery and Grove: both started for a few teams before their careers ended due to injury. Gallery was the safest pick in that draft that produced many impact players, PBers, and HOFers.
-Huff and TH were good picks IMO.
-Z Miller, Houston, and Wiz are solid 2nd round picks.

    JR

Another example of a Raider missed draft opportunity.
The inability to draft well has been the primary reason for the failures of this team for the last ten years.

    @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

Every person on that list “failed with the Raiders”. And so did SIX coaches during that period! Please tell me when it’s OK to hold the organization accountable!

He also had no adult guidance, to teach him nutrition, or good habits or work ethic, or how to distinguish positive and negative influences and relationships.

To the Raiders not employee an “Adults”?

Hell they had Eddie Anderson following him around for an offseason.

    What a crock of mularkey!!!!
    ==================

You dont follow. The problems for russel started before he ever left mobile.

A team employee being assigned to russel was too late.

No different from a high school student that has trouble in school and only takes on a tutor when he sees he will not graduate.

By then it may already be to late as he has never learned how to be a good student. The tutor in a few months can not over come a life time of poor habbits.

manhood and professionalism must be taught no one is born with it

Jamarcus disgraced Al Davis, and that’s why Al’s last legal move was to sue his dumb azz.

From the very beginning, with the holdout, Jamarcus showed he cared about nothing but the money.

Never has a player disgraced the S & B like that.

I hope his comeback goes as well as Dave Dravecky’s.

HAHA manhood in the black community based on sports? Come on Mistic this is nuts

Russell’s career doesnt impact black people. He was a damn athlete who is dumb as schit and isnt even good.

Al Davis is j-wish and impact black folks so what are you really saying my friend?

Russell has accepted no challenge at 300 lbs ya dig. Only example he serves to black kids is exactly what not to be when they grow up

And stop saying black community! We dont have one! Dont try and challenge me on this you will be smoked bruh
    ===========================

    Nope

russels story of failure and acceptance is bigger than sports.

    *******************************

He is 300 lbs…he aint accepted schit except a free coupon from Golden Corral so your point is therefore dashed!

Al wanted to win and was in business of winning. What he did was impactful whether it was a business decision or not

you only regurgitate what those scam artist n–gas say every fkin year in hopes of getting ya money….damn that schit bruh. We dont have a community at all! You have to run things to have a community and nowhere in this country do we run schit so shut that down please bruh

You aint doin nada for the struggle when you do the Africa schit bruh let me tell you that right now. Those babies dont know who they are and NEITHER DO YOU!
