Brisiel’s contract restructured

The Raiders are approximately $1.5 million under the salary cap as of now. They got there, in large part, because right guard Mike Brisiel agreed to a restructured contract.
Brisiel’s base salary for 2013 dropped from $4.35 million to $1.35 million as part of the new deal. Brisiel signed with the Raiders last offseason.
He is slated to earn $3.85 million in base salary in 2014, ’15 and ’16. There’s still work to do for general manager Reggie McKenzie between now and the start of free agency, which begins Mar. 12.
However, getting Brisiel on board with a cap-friendly deal for 2013 is a nice start. Now McKenzie can go after other sizable contracts such as those of quarterback Carson Palmer, wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey and defensive tackle Tommy Kelly in an attempt to free up more cap room.

sure he made bad throws. he was under pressure A LOT .. there were A LOT OF DROPS as well. this cannot be disputed either.

this is just what i saw in person. i watched the receivers a lot live. he had to hustle and get the ball out before getting blasted, thus he dunked it off to Myers or a RB because of it.

that’s just what i’m talking about when not having pieces around him doing their job. of course he made bone headed throws even when he had time. many QBs do. it’s unavoidable.

    How many starting jobs?

    32.

How many teams in need of a starting QB.

How many teams drafting a QB of the future?

How many teams feel they are just a QB away from a serious run?

KC seem to believe that A Smith is one of those guys…lol

Fact is not many teams are going top fork over money for a 33 year old QB.

SO…how do we address Palmer value. You access market value and negotiate accordingly.

It’s obvious that Palmer will take less because of the market.

How many suiter”s were there for Peyton?

Not comparing the two, but rather pointing out the market condition for a Primo QB.
    ==============

    doesnt change anything len

manning had lots of suitors even teams that already had qbs (niners)

    palmer?

he will have to take less money because he isnt valued at 13 mil here.

there are plenty of teams that need a veteran qb az, cle, jax, buff, minny and so on. If he thinks he can get more money from one of those teams ( i hope he does) then he wont budge and will force a release.

The fact is that palmer simply isnt worth as much as people here think he is. At least that what big mack told him lol.

I would be curious to see if a qb starved team throws a check his way.

Palmer will have say in contract talks
    March, 4, 2013
    By Bill Williamson | ESPN.com

One of the Oakland Raiders’ most pressing issues in the coming days is to address the contract of quarterback Carson Palmer as they try to get under the salary cap.

Oakland is trying to redo the contract of the 33-year-old quarterback who was acquired in 2011 for a 2012 first-round pick and a second-round pick this year. Palmer has a salary-cap number more than $13 million.

Oakland coach Dennis Allen said at the combine that the Raiders plan on Palmer going into camp as the starter. But that contract has to be redone. Here’s the rub: What if Palmer doesn’t want to take a pay reduction?

There haven’t been any indications that Palmer will be difficult during these talks, but there’s always a chance he can balk at the idea of taking a pay reduction. If he did that, Palmer and his agent would be banking on one of two things happening: Oakland relents and keeps his salary or Oakland is forced to cut him and Palmer would get a good contract elsewhere.

Teams such as Arizona, Buffalo and even Cleveland could be interested. Consider this: If Oakland is offering Palmer $4-5 million and he thinks he could get $6-7 million from the Cardinals to throw to Larry Fitzgerald, would Palmer take that chance?

In the end, Palmer holds the cards. If he doesn’t want to cooperate with Oakland’s demands he doesn’t have to.

If that is the case, the Raiders would receive $9-plus million in cap relief, but they would have another need on an already long list. That would mean Terrelle Pryor would get a long look and it wouldn’t do anything to stop the talk Oakland would take West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith with the No. 3 pick.

Again, we have no reason to think these talks will get off track, but any negotiation is a two-way street and that can cause complications.
