Jackson says Al Davis wanted him as his GM

By Steve Corkran
Tuesday, March 5th, 2013 at 7:16 pm in Oakland Raiders.

In an interesting read from Sports Illustrated’s Jim Trotter, former Raiders coach Hue Jackson said late owner Al Davis offered him a general manager role long before Reggie McKenzie assumed the role at the behest of Davis’ successor, son Mark.
Of course, we’ll never know if Jackson’s portrayal is fully accurate, so it’s up to each person to read into the story what they want. Hence, we’ll give you the link to the story and let you make up your own mind.

I have a small 900-watt microwave. Most cooking times on food containers are for 1000-watt machines. To calculate the time needed to cook a microwave meal in a 900-watt machine is *not* as simple as 1.11 x the 1000-watt cooking time, is it? It’s got to be more complicated than that. Anyone know the right calculation?

I’m thinking maybe (1.11 x the 1000-watt cooking time) x (the number of llamas born in California in the last two months + the # of times Kell’s been called an old troll) x (Carson Palmer’s disapproval rating amongst Terrelle Pryor fans herein/reported length of Beeech’s manhood) x (the # of periods Ian85 uses in a week ehrein + the # of times IHOP is mentioned – the # of times Denny’s is mentioned) within 3 standard deviations.

Cork will always pop out given any chance to bash Hue. He of course immediately suggests he’s lying about being offered he GM job. Bash Hue all you want (sure you haters will jump all over it) but he’s the best HC we’ve had since Gruden and makes DA look like what he is – a total joke. Hue might have to wait, but he will get another chance again, certainly at OC and in a few years, HC. He’s that good and young enough to recover from being run over by an insecure and stupid Mark Davis and the jokers we call the ‘Bay Area media’ who even now won’t let sleeping dogs lie. DA absolutely stinks up the joint and they haven’t peeped a bad word about him because they love it when the Raider suck and he’s such a lapdog and lets them do what they want. The local media hates the Raiders because Al crapped on them for years, as they totally deserved, and they won’t let up – ever. Just throw on CSN bay area or 95.7 the game, or read Kawakami or Rotto, etc etc. Then compare that to the absolute fawning worship they pour on the Fruity’s across the bay and have done for years – its nauseating.

  17. CDERaider Says:

Cork, why don’t you just come straight out and call Hue an f*ing liar? Not all of us share your hatred for the only coach who has gotten this team anywhere close to legitimacy in over a decade.

Speaking to CSN Bay Area Tuesday, Carson Palmer admitted his Raiders future is still up in the air.
“Not sure what’s going to happen,” Palmer said. “Would love to be back in Oakland and compete.” ESPN’s Adam Schefter confirmed last week that the Raiders want to cut Palmer’s $13 million salary, but by how much remains unclear. With perhaps the league’s worst roster, it wouldn’t be stunning if the Raiders opted to cut the cord on their aging and overpaid quarterback.

    Offer him the vet min.?

If declines the offer… start TP and draft EJ (3rd) or Klein (6th).

posibility, buthe’ll be back. If not it would be Geno. At that point you can’t count on EJ in the third being there. Hope palmer is back and settled before draft, but if not Having two moble QB’s in a similiar mold is very intruiging.

Palmer might be thinking let me get cut and go to the browns to dish out pay back?

  52. DJ Johnny Says:

Well, if this turns out to be it for Palmer and Pryor is the starter then Priest, Mistic and others better be right about him.

I’ll go get my Pryor jersey…which would be strange cuz it would be only the 2nd one i’ve ever bought.

DJJ, wait to see how well Pryor does before buying it.

Oh yeah. Just funnin’ around really.

It’s turning into a really interesting situation now. Now I have no idea what they’re going to do.

I thought signing Palmer to a reduced deal was a fait accompli and he would be the starter…I had it at 80%. Now after hearing Palmer talk about it, my % has gone down considerably.

It’s not that I am gonna be devastated if he’s not back, I was looking forward to seeing if they’d get him some help and see if we could get back to 2011 production and he’d have a “legacy” year…realizing this might be his last shot at redemption, but now…I have to admit there’s a certain amount of excitement of the unknown. Will we get the shiny new franchise QB Geno Smith now? Will we roll with Pryor and shock the world when everyone finds out it was Al’s best pick in the last 20 yr’s.?

Yeah..it’s kind of exciting contemplating a new course.

All I care is that it’s a fun one…By “fun” I mean winning too.

  59. DJ Johnny Says:

Watching NFLN earlier they had Baldinger and Casserly on talking draft and they both have Geno going 7th to the Cardinals.

This is turning into a yo-yo. First, he wasn’t even 1st rd. worthy…now we have two legit analysts having him 7th overall.

My main concern is not being laughed at by the experts and hearing “Al Davis is alive and well in Oakland…hahahahaa” or “Same old Raiders…you’d think they would’ve learned their lesson with Jamarcus Russell”…etc. etc. etc. but…it is nice to hear Geno being considered as less of a stretch now.

IF Palmer goes then the Geno talk will kick into overdrive for us. You know it will.

He did come off as power-hungry, but this is a mans game an you gotta be tuff. waaaa for all the whiners who dont like it. Hue or the last joker we had at OC? Really???

  65. tonedeezy Says:

This is the guy who pulled the trigger on the “greatest trade in all of sports”….the same trade that is still haunting us…possibly for 3 more years…

Al did some crazy things, but Al wasn’t crazy enough to offer this guy the first GM job in two decades.
    No way.

  66. tonedeezy Says:

Seriously though, for all you Hue lovers out there (I’m assuming you are all Al guys too), you can’t possibly condone this POS coming out and telling such a huge lie about Coach Davis.

No way Al offered him the GM job…maybe they talked about it the year Hue became HC, but no way was it talked about before Hue was ever a Raider.
    No way.

Press probably don’t hate us. They just think we are a weird NFL team who went out of their way to offend the press. That said Kwakamai needs a punch in the head….where’s Herrera when you need him?
