Report: Raiders meeting with veteran DL

The Raiders reportedly are about to jump in the mix for the services of veteran defensive lineman Cullen Jenkins, which makes sense given Jenkins’ connection to Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie.
Jenkins was released by the Philadelphia Eagles last month rather than pay him a $5 million roster bonus. Ever since, Jenkins has been a hot commodity among teams interested in adding a versatile lineman.
Jenkins, 32, already has visited the New York Giants. He also has visits lined up with the Seattle Seahawks and 49ers, with the Raiders on the radar for Wednesday, according to NFL.com.
The Raiders figure to be in the market for at least one player capable of playing inside on the defensive line, with the departure of Richard Seymour, Desmond Bryant a prospective free agent and Tommy Kelly a potential salary cap casualty.
Jenkins played for the Packers from 2004-10 when McKenzie was part of that team’s front office. He bolted for the Eagles in 2011 and started all 32 games the past two seasons.

    I think it’s either Ross or Adams who’s restricted FA , so we will give them a contract and if other team pays more n the raiders don’t match the offer we could receive a pick , depending on the contract he gets

    This is a ridiculous statement. lst off, one guy was here for a year and a half, and the other guy showed up a couple of days before game time. 2ndly, one guy was “hidden” from the opposition while the other guy wasn’t even supposed to go into the game. Lastly, one game was played in the middle of the season, while the other game was the very last game of the year, between two teams going no where, one of which the coach AND GM were getting axed right after the game. Think any of those factors might make a difference?

    ==============

    Palmer was an 8 year veteran playing in his 100+ nfl game, pryor was essentially a rookie making his first start of his nfl career after one week working with the first team and learning the plays. does that not play into the situation also?
    =======================================

    No. You probably would have wanted to be in Pryor’s shoes more than Palmers. Pryor had been with the org, he knew the offense, and while he wasn’t practicing all year with the ones, he did his best work with the two’s and threes who were in the game. Coming in like Palmer did, was the equivalent of a major league hitter coming to the plate mid way through the season facing good pitching after taking no swings. It is going to take some practice to get the timing down.

    And the point that I keep bringing up is players were not playing overly hard at the beginning and end of Pryor’s start. It’s just human nature. Would you rather be in Cabo San Lucas surrounded by hotties partying down, or having surgery immediately after the game, and then staying at the facility rehabbing for three months? Guys had nothing to prove to anyone. And to SD’s credit, they came out in the second half and played hard. When they did that, Pryor did nothing. That was the most telling thing I saw out of Pryor’s start. Once SD let up, Pryor put up some numbers. Not the thing to write home about if you ask me.

    A former pro basketball player who never played college football has landed a job in the NFL.

    And he didn’t even have to pay $275 to get there.

    Darren Fells, the younger brother of Patriots tight end Daniel Fells, has signed a three-year deal with the Seahawks. The team has confirmed the news, first reported by Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

    Fells played college basketball at Cal-Irvine, and pro basketball in Argentina.

    It’s a no-risk proposition for the Seahawks, who have shown a willingness to take chances. And who have had their chances pay off.

  • http://www.Raiders.com KoolKell

    It’s widely believed that the next wave of quarterbacks to get new deals in the wake of the Joe Flacco contract will include Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan, Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, and Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford.

    But the most glaring contract presently belongs to Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who’ll earn less than half the average of the $20 million mark that more and more quarterbacks are approaching or exceeding.

    Rodgers hasn’t asked for a new deal, and he hasn’t complained about his current contract. A league source with knowledge of the situation believes, however, that the Packers soon will take care of Rodgers.

    “It is his time,” the source said.

    The source also believes that, once Rodgers has a new deal, it will set a new benchmark that will stand for several years.
