I think he completely threw out need and went with "best player available" figuring his one-year-wonder patchwork players were going to be decent at the corner position. He was wrong.

Here are a few posts from the day of the draft last season where I plainly called out RM for not drafting a DB....

I was the only one on this entire BLOG that day who didn't have his head up his azz.

This season....RM will again prove that this job is beyond his expertise....

In order to get to the playoffs we are most likely going to need to win our division.

To win our division we are going to need to beat the Chargers, Chiefs, and Broncos.

The Chargers Chiefs and Broncos will have our Nickle Corner on the field at least 2/3 of the snaps when we compete against them….and that’s if the game is close….If we are winning…it will be a higher percentage…if we are losing…it doesn’t really matter…

So…to beat those teams we are going to need to cover at least 3 WRs and a TE….or 2 WRs and 2 TEs….

To do that we need corners…

Refer to post #186 and #193 for what recent experience we totaled from our supposed 2012 starters…

And today…we didn’t draft anything remotely close to a cover skills player….

Just Sayin

This is a pass happy league now a days…

Going into a season with corners who didn’t have quality time the previous season is a huge risk….

A risk that is not necessary.

All this talk of our QBs and we should be discussing our GM……

Why?

A draft is a huge portion of his duties, and neglecting our greatest need, Defensive Back, is a problem.

I am a little confused that “REGGIE” wasn’t asked why “HE” didn’t draft a DB. Why ask Coach Allen, is it his job?

NOPE

I am not sold on Reggie McKenzie.

The jury is still out in my mind. I have not heard anything but optimism from anyone and everyone.

Based on what I have to go on….I am undecided.

Leading up to the draft I like every move.

His inability to address a huge need in our secondary for a long term solution at this point is a mistake.

He still has time to correct it.

Damn give our GM some credit. The guy stepped into a mess.He was left with little draft picks over paid players Salary cap issues. Can,t solve it in one season. So Many haters in the world. Why do some of you even cheer for this team anyways always hating.

Stepped into a mess?

How so?

He is in charge of the Oakland Raiders. Or is he?

He is paid a huge sum of money and is replacing a legend. I’d say that comes with some criticism. I am providing that. If he does something of value, I will address that with the same amount of praise.

How is it a mess?

He fired the Coach the first day.

He wants to throw blame….so I can too!

Backstageatapuppetshow,

I know you have been agitated for awhile regarding our CB situation. It seems Reggie has done everything else spot on. If we truly have a need (notwithstanding what you believe) to bolster our CB crew, I am sure Reggie has a remedy ready and waiting, and in time that will unfold.

As far as you “speaking for Mr. Davis”: why not go out and just stick your head in a operational buzz saw. Davis was in a state of dementia and almost total incompetence for the past 10 years. Even if you wanted to speak for AD, you couldn’t: the lights were on but no one was home.

Don’t try to pretend that you are old enough to have been a fan in AD’s early and middle years, when he was a genius. I know by your flawed arguments and the language you use, you aren’t old enough to have experienced those years.

Our CB unit will be fine Backstage, just wait and see

Backstage,

No disrespect intended.

However, your age is important since you never witnessed the Raiders of old in AD’s early and middle years. Raiders were the greatest show on Earth. Them just coming onto the field was half the battle: smell the fear and smell the blood of Raider opponents. The Raiders’ greatest talent was their talent to win, led by their maverick owner, the greatest owner in the history of professional sports, AD.

However, AD lost it in his later years. To understand the Raiders and AD one must analyze them and him in the early, middle, and later years.

You can “speak for Mr. Davis” but you are merely speaking at a shadow of fallen greatness, and speaking for someone who effectively was lost after the year 2000.

You are very sincere Backstage, and an excellent contributor to the blog.

Thanks Hardline…I appreciate your words.

I am 37 years old. I can appreciate what I know of a man who dedicated his life to what he believed in….

He and I share this same quality.

You forgot to mention that he dominated every area of his life and every area of this business and organization.

Reggie McKenzie does not possess this skill. I do.

I am disgusted by Reggie’s mistake within yesterdays draft picks by neglecting a huge area of need and believe Mr. Davis would want me to speak to it….

Reggie already received a personal email on the matter…and will wake in the AM to know that I publicly shared my disgust on this blog.

Reggie can never fully RUN this team. It is beyond that. The Raider Nation runs this show now. It is bigger than one man.

Reggie is merely a hired figurehead….

Brees had two 7-9 seasons with 4000+, (NO defenses stunk in 07′ and 12′ too (26th and 32nd))

Farve never was lower than 8-8 with 4000+

Marino had one 6-10 (defense stunk in 1988 (26th)) otherwise was usually in over ten wins with 4000+

Fouts had three seasons over 4000+ averaged 11 wins.

Manning had one 6-10 year over 4000+ (defense stunk in 2001 (29th)) everything else around 12 wins…

Brady broke the bank in wins with 4000+

What other QB’s am I even missing that threw 4000+??

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

Great points. More reasons that Palmer shouldn’t be mentioned in the same breath as Brees, Favre, Marino, Brady or Manning. Lol!

>>>>

Statistically the average wins in a season for a 4000+ yard passer is prolly over 11 wins!

And this “genius” wants to dump ours!

For a dude that tossed up a whopping 155!!

that dude that tossed up 155 yards only had like 60 yards going into the 4th quarter of a season finale in which the opposing team knew the GM and HC were going to be fired
********************
So are we supposed to believe that SD wasn't playing hard but all the Raiders were playing full out? Those same players who couldn't block for CP or hold on to any of his passes? They must have been saving all year then, huh?
