All 17 Raiders UFAs free to seek deals

Tuesday, March 12th, 2013 at 1:21 pm in Oakland Raiders.
As the new league year started at 1 p.m., all 17 of the Raiders unrestricted free agents hit the open market.
Most notably, that includes linebacker Philip Wheeler, defensive tackle Desmond Bryant and tight end Brandon Myers, all of whom enjoyed productive seasons on a 4-12 team in 2012.
Others free to sign with the highest bidder include starting right tackle Khalif Barnes and left guard Cooper Carlisle, defensive end Andre Carter, linebacker Omar Gaither, safety Matt Giordano, running back Mike Goodson, wide receiver Derek hagan, cornerback Joselio Hanson, punter Shane Lechler, quarterback Matt Leinart, safety Mike Mitchell, defensive tackle Richard Seymour, defensive end Matt Shaughnessy and cornerback Shawntae Spencer.
Some could still return after they test the market and compare it with what they could get in Oakland.
The Raiders have made no announcements regarding players who have been released, with middle linebacker Rolando McClain heading the list.
Given that the Raiders are already $8 million under the salary cap, players with large contracts such as quarterback Carson Palmer ($13 million salary, $15 million cap number, Tommy Kelly ($6.5 million salary, $9.4 million cap number) and wide receiver Darrius Heyward Bey ($7.7 million salary, $10.6 million cap number) can be dealt with when the Raiders need room to sign more players.

The Bills releasing Fitzpatrick is a $10 million hit against the Bills salary cap. Retaining him would have cost them $10.5 million vs. the cap.
Kind of what I was hoping the Raiders would do with McClain.

Raiders need to find a TE that can block! Meyers was horrible at setting the edge in the blocking.
One of the main reasons DMAC could never get to the corner on the sweeps without being stuffed. Remember that long run last year vs the JETS?? DMAC on 75 yards cuz the edge was sealed off.

if they were going to cut a player, wouldn’t they want to do it sooner then so they would get signed for more money and in turn there wuld be more cap relief for the raiders.
this statement was based on something i heard in the way of when a someone is cut and signed somewhere else, the number they were signed for is taken away from what the team that cut them owes to the player.
