Report: Myers signs with Giants

Tight end Brandon Myers, who caught more passes in 2012 than any Raiders tight end since Todd Christensen, signed with the New York Giants Saturday, according to USA Today.

The Giants signed Myers after losing Martellus Bennett in free agency.

Myers caught 79 passes for 806 yards and four touchdowns for the Raiders last season as the receiver most trusted by quarterback Carson Palmer. He was considered one of the top receiving tight ends in free agency, although some scouting services downgraded his blocking skill.

Myers played nearly every snap for the Raiders last season. The other tight ends on the 2012 roster, David Ausberry and Richard Gordon, played sparingly.

Myers joins Philip Wheeler (Dolphins), Desmond Bryant (Browns) and Matt Shaughnessy as Raiders who had productive 2012 seasons but signed with other teams.

In other news, the Raiders confirmed a visit from cornerback Terence Newman, but made no announcement regarding a contract. ESPN reported the Raiders were visiting with linebacker Kevin Burnett, who played the last two season with the Miami Dolphins.

    Burnett signed!? Nice.

  • RaiderRetribution

Raiders officially added LB, Kevin Burnett; it’s on the Raiders official website.

Raiders now have a complete linebacker corp; (if only Wheeler knew).

Usually Rotoworld.com has signings up as soon as they happen.

Found out about Burnett’s signing from Raiders’ official Facebook post.

Good news on the Burnett signing.

In other news, Jerry Mac and Steve Corkran both reported the Raiders were in the Sean Smith chase and dropped out late before the Chiefs signed the cornerback.

Smith got some good coin from KC…

Updating a previous item, Chiefs RCB Sean Smith’s three-year contract is worth just $16.5 million in base value.
The cornerback market was a huge disappointment this year. Smith got paid more than anyone, and his lowly $5.5 million annual average doesn’t even put him among the league’s top-12 corners. Smith received $7.465 million in fully guaranteed money. He can push the deal’s max value to $18 million via incentives. Smith will be able to reenter the free-agent market at age 28.

I was cruising on Facebook at work and the fourth post on my news feed was “Raider Nation, welcome linebacker Kevin Burnett.”

Huff’s production did not match his salary. Gone. DHB’s production did not match his salary. Gone. Shaughnessy’s production did not match his salary. Gone. McFaddens production does not match his salary. He will not be resigned. Palmer’s does. That’s why he is still here. That’s the difference between me, NFL people and you guys.

I mean, what was McKenzie supposed to do, spend more money they dont have to keep players who arent producing, or go to spend money on players and hope they produce more?

Dont expect Kerry Rhodes or Nate Clements or Kevin Burnett or anyone else to come in here…..

    ..you were saying???

    Raiders’ linebacker unit:

    Burnett (brothers)
    Roach
    Maiava
    Burris
    Hunter LB/DE
Burnett (brothers)- could this be the first of a pair [trufants next?); would need to trade back a couple times to get the “value,” somewhere in the teens/twenties; that would mean the Raiders picked up at least a 2nd and two 3rds to go that far back.

without Al Davis, the market for cornerbacks is dropping; yes JT & Lincoln, you can use this too on your radio show; I live in Spokane, and never know if I’m listening to the recording or the live radio show; thank you again, as always for supporting the young men & women (us old ones too) who serve honorably in the Armed Forces of the United States of America!

New #Raiders LB Kevin Burnett was @PFF’s No. 4 overall 4-3 outside ‘backer in 2012. 110 tackles, 2.5 sacks, 1 forced fumble. 30 years old.

  • RaiderRetribution

Reggie is the man with the plan; Mark should give him a raise; except that would not be within the Raiders’ budget.

  • da trinity

    K. Burnett a raider

  • RaiderRetribution

DL: Houston Sims Hunter (bench: Biloduki & Crawford)
    LBs: Maiava Roach Burris Burnett (bench: Burnett);

now would be a great time to sign Gaither as a backup.

If that don’t work we cab bring in Carol Burnett. She good under pressure and usually delivers inthe clutch. We could use the comedy relief.

Adams concussions were not caused by some medical defect that he may have, they were caused by poor tackling technique where his head is too high, hopefully they coach him up in camp because his ball-skills are very good
