Agent says Raiders still on Newman’s radar

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Monday, March 18th, 2013 at 1:36 pm in Oakland Raiders.

The agent for cornerback Terence Newman said Monday his client is giving “strong consideration’’ toward signing with the Raiders.

Newman, who started 15 games with the Cincinnati Bengals last season, met with the Raiders last week and left the facility without signing a contract.

Since free agency began, the Raiders have been signing defensive players: linebackers Kaluka Maiava, Nick Roach and Kevin Burnett and defensive end Jason Hunter.

Through free agency and the draft, the Raiders will be in the market for cornerbacks as well as a free safety to replace Michael Huff, who was released at the start of the new league year.

In an e-mail, Ben Dogra of CAA Football said, “He liked the coaches and overall game plan presented by Reggie McKenzie. Terrence hopes to make a decision shortly after the owner’s meetings. He is considering Oakland and Cincinnati.’’

Newman, 34, played for the Bengals last season after nine seasons with the Dallas Cowboys.

RM99 i saw that today too. It was hilarious. When CP3 threw the int at the end he was all like “C’mon man!”
    ==================

Imagine what palmer was saying on the sideline watching that defense get run on like it did that day.

I’m gnashing my teeth over the walker signing cuz he can’t rush for squat. My prediction is he has 1.5 sacks this yr. And i’m giving him the benefit of the doubt. But i still wouldn’t have offered dez that much money.

The Miami Dolphins are the NFL’s offseason champs, having signed five free agents to contracts totaling $135 M, including $63 M guaranteed.
    ————————————-
Something tells me they wont be seeing a return on that investment. Thats a lot of money to spend to not see much improvement. How much better are the Dolphins now than last season? I think they lost better players than they signed.

Reggie stacking players on defense to brace for drafting a QB #3 overall.

    Welcome to California Geno.

Yup….thats the word I’m hearing as well…..people saying Reggie loves Geno….so QB of future will learn under Palmer who hasnt had a good past or good present and definitely has no future…..great

  • raiderzmaverick

McKenzie and DA have a very specific MO they’re trying to do. Stop the RUN and run the ball well. It was the successful formula for many years up until about 5 years ago. Then it changed.

Bryant blew Walker our of the water pass rushing… 16.8 to 0.7

    ——————–

and too be fair ATL only used Walker as a 2 down run stuffer.

Walker is gonna be a starter and 3 down player

    >>>>

We are going to be relying on two two-down starters, which could work, but lets not pretend there wasn’t any reason they were two-down players.

Bryant was taking the line over at the end of the year once DA/Tarver finally gave him his chance. The defense was playing well the last four games. This is the explanation of the “gnashing of teeth.”

  • RaidersAllday_LtsGeTit

U want another name?? raiders are rumored to be interested in James Harrison (NO LIE) and BLOUNT .. Raiders OC was with them when blount had over 1,000 yards.

    LET REGGIE COOK

  • mcthompso

I’m much more cool with decent, cheap players than I am with decent, expensive ones. I continue to be a Reggie supporter.

Actually, I support anyone that is running the Raiders. I guess I’m just not swayed by hatred and short-sightedness.

the difference is ATL had a better DLINE and they could afford to do that. I want to see all these new players in Tarvers and Allens system

  • Priesttj12

Vance Walker>Des Bryant, what was I thinking before long we’ll be better than the Steelers and Ravens combined. We’re getting some real world beaters.

    You people need help…

  • John David Booty

Falcons fans are upset about losing Walker. Theyre already thin at DT, and are struggling at DE mostly. Couldnt afford to lose a big body in the middle thats been productive depth.

    He’s probably done.

“The Raiders have shown interest in free agent TE Kellen Winslow.
Per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Winslow’s knees are “finally healthy” and he wants to “keep going.” We’ll believe it when we see it. The Raiders are in the market for a tight end and could offer Winslow a minimum salary contract.”

The depth and competition will be key for this defense. There will be countless abttles for starting roles on defense.

I have 2 starters …. Houston and Branch.

The rest will be battled for.

It appears like the stage is being set to release him, esp. if they take Sharrif Floyd in draft.

  • mikep562

#262 didnt blount just resign with tampa on a 1 yr?
always wanted him to come to oak though to back up dmc we’ll see

do like what we are putting together, cant wait for draft and next season

i’d be on board with Geno, guy is accurate as hell and doesn’t turn the ball over…i’d be good with that

  • mikep562

maybe olsen is connected to winslow?could be, getting him on a 1 yr would be great, dude must be hungry

  • RaiderSam

    another option beside Winslow….

“San Jose State TE Ryan Otten chatted with San Francisco 49ers’ head coach Jim Harbaugh at his pro day.
Harbaugh was in attendance at the pro day as one of 26 NFL teams, which also included the Oakland Raiders. Otten ran a 4.68 40-yard dash and caught 20 passes. He didn’t drop any passes thrown in his direction. He has two private workouts set up with unspecific teams and could add another five pounds when he comes to the NFL.”

McKenzie wanted him last year, but the knee injuries scared him off….

  • RaiderSam

    the typical Al picks

“NFL.com’s Gil Brandt believes Penn State CB Stephon Morris will be coveted in the later rounds “based on his straight-line speed.”
Morris ran the 40-yard dash three times at the school’s pro day, posting times of 4.35, 4.40 and 4.39 seconds, even injuring his hamstring on the final attempt. We will need to go back and watch the corner, but he didn’t draw a lot of attention during the season.”

“Houston CB D.J. Hayden will work out for four teams and visit seven before the draft.
There’s no word which specific teams he will work out and visit with. Hayden worked out for 25 teams in what was an inspirational pro day. He overcame a heart issue to run a 4.33 40-yard dash. It’s uncertain how teams feel about the serious injury Hayden previously suffered, but he most certainly has the talent to be a quality player at the next level.”

OMG, Hayden even went to Houston (Stanford Routt)

  • DKnight007

Straight line speed is overrated when it comes to WR’s and especially CB’s.

With corners in depends how quick and how smooth they can open up the hips, pack pedal and make plays on the ball.

  • NGRaiderfan

Running the football and stopping the run is still important in the nfl. two of the best teams in the nfl last year (Seattle and SF) had the same MO. Niners went to the super bowl. If we can stop the run, force 2nd and long, 3rd and long. obvious passing situations, it will help our defense out just by that. If we can run well and not get into obvious passing situations it will help everything out.

i know passing games are all the hype but being able to run the ball and stop the run is a good start. got to be able to do both though.

  • RaiderMcMike

Keep it up Reggie. Are you guys not sick of seeing the ball run down our throats? Tired of career games against us? I am glad we are cleaning house. Most of the guys we are getting are entering the prime of their career. Age 27ish. Guys who want to play football. Enough with the talent and no heart or love of the game. Keep it coming Reggie.
