Agent says Raiders still on Newman’s radar

The agent for cornerback Terence Newman said Monday his client is giving “strong consideration’’ toward signing with the Raiders.

Newman, who started 15 games with the Cincinnati Bengals last season, met with the Raiders last week and left the facility without signing a contract.

Since free agency began, the Raiders have been signing defensive players: linebackers Kaluka Maiava, Nick Roach and Kevin Burnett and defensive end Jason Hunter.

Through free agency and the draft, the Raiders will be in the market for cornerbacks as well as a free safety to replace Michael Huff, who was released at the start of the new league year.

In an e-mail, Ben Dogra of CAA Football said, “He liked the coaches and overall game plan presented by Reggie McKenzie. Terrence hopes to make a decision shortly after the owner’s meetings. He is considering Oakland and Cincinnati.’’

Newman, 34, played for the Bengals last season after nine seasons with the Dallas Cowboys.

Ravens also wanted Fabian Washington and Chris Carr…

    ————————————————————-

Who actually played well for them.

A lot of people thought they sucked here too.

    —–

they joined a great defensive roster(s) … Huff will be joining a depleted defense that has lost 6 starters so far

  • aig-raiders

Actually, it was because he wouldn’t take a pay cut.

Agreed. AD didnt want to lose that draft pick/ego but he had to make a choice between his ego and money. AD chose to save his money…for once.

wow….great moves by Reggie I must say….we for sure will be a top 10 force in the draft in 2014

    Sims?
    Maiava?
    Burnett?
    Roach?

Boy gonna be a long year…..I guess i will enjoy tailgating again before with my head hanging low walking back to BART

  • J Hill

He is not bad but not at the contract we were paying him. I’d love to get Huff back for what his real market value and not what Al Davis wanted to pay him.

    ————————————————————–

    Agreed.

I can see him going back home to Dallas.

Just imagine the excitement around here next year !

There will be a new HC in place.

Who do we sign in free agency now that we’re 40 million under the cap ?

Who do we take with the overall #1 pick ?

    Manziel ? Clowney ? Trade down ?

Man, this place is going to be a madhouse.

    It’s gonna be great.

Nah, by the time AD traded for Cantball he had already given up on JaMoron.

JaMoron might have managed to hang on for another year if he took a pay cut down to next to nothing, but AD was already over JaMoron and had given up on him.

If AD hadn’t given up on JaMoron, he’d have kept him around one way or another.

    =================

myers had a career year with 805 yds receiving.

Winslow, since his 2nd yr in the league, has only had one season where he didn’t have at least 730 yds receiving, and that was a season he only played 10 games. he has also had a 1,000 yds season, has averaged more yards per catch during his career than myers had in his career season, and he’s a far better blocker.

that’s If he is healthy of course.

Do you understand the concept of player development?? Huh?

It’s not about what he is RIGHT NOW, It’s about what kind of player he can become with the coaching he c an get here. Think what kind of talent the kid has more than what he did lasr year……..my god man.

    It’s exhausting coming in here………

Players have to develope man, why is that so damn hard for people to understand.

I hate when we draft a kid and dump him without getting out of him what in there. It becomes an merry-go-round of redoing what you have already DONE!!!
