Agent says Raiders still on Newman’s radar

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Monday, March 18th, 2013 at 1:36 pm in Oakland Raiders.

The agent for cornerback Terence Newman said Monday his client is giving “strong consideration’’ toward signing with the Raiders.

Newman, who started 15 games with the Cincinnati Bengals last season, met with the Raiders last week and left the facility without signing a contract.

Since free agency began, the Raiders have been signing defensive players: linebackers Kaluka Maiava, Nick Roach and Kevin Burnett and defensive end Jason Hunter.

Through free agency and the draft, the Raiders will be in the market for cornerbacks as well as a free safety to replace Michael Huff, who was released at the start of the new league year.

In an e-mail, Ben Dogra of CAA Football said, “He liked the coaches and overall game plan presented by Reggie McKenzie. Terrence hopes to make a decision shortly after the owner’s meetings. He is considering Oakland and Cincinnati.’’

Newman, 34, played for the Bengals last season after nine seasons with the Dallas Cowboys.

PFF has loved our signings this offseason. Think about it we found like 4 or 5 good players that are getting paid less combined than the contract handed out to Byrant. LOL. ”

Lets see one high price guy like bryant.. or 3-4 guys.. I’ll take 3-4 guys and Vance could match the production..

    >>>>

Yea true. Hopefully a couple of them will work out. Still hate losing good young talent though.

I like our LB situation much more than last year, no doubt. Burris needed to be a backup. He might do better just coming in for spot duty.

  • tonedeezy

i used to think that the reggie haters were just being loyal to Al, but now it is clear that they just want to see some more Javon Walker/Deangelo Hall FA signings…

these moves might be boring and conservative, but they are smart signings.
sorry guys, go find another franchise to root against.

Bryant: run D = 16 stops on 257 run snaps

    DT V.Walker run D in 2012: 15 stops on 224 run snaps

But why cant Reggie pay more !!! Sarcasm

  • Relentless

Newman says he is seriously considering the Raiders but hasn’t signed yet. I’ll tell you why, he’s looking and “hoping” for others suitors to come along and offer him more or he’s waiting for a possible contender to pick him up. He knows neither Oak or Cin is going to the superbowl or for that case the playoffs.

Who know how much it means, at this point all these signing are merely starters by default since the roster is empty on that side of the ball.

So I’m watching Sound FX on the NFLN today, and there’s a segement on there with Seymour mic’d up from the Buc game.

Pretty funny watching him talk some smack after the RAIDS actually stop a run, saying ‘they can’t run that no more’…. promptly followed by excerpts of Doug Martin annihilating the run defense on his way to 251 yards. Ouch.

His reaction to CP’s pathetic game ending pick was pretty good too.

Vance Walker is a good football player. He played well behind Babineaux last year. This will be his first real opportunity to try to be a starter. I think he’ll be hungry. These are the kinds of signings Reggie can make his name with.

Ive been really pleasantly surprised by the moves Reggie has made so far. Because he has already improved the D, without spending much. So we still have a lot of room to work with, not to mention a whole draft ahead of us. Reggie is slowly but surely redeeming himself. Giving me some hope for the draft.

He still hasnt made up for hiring Dennis Allen, but we’ll see how that goes.

I’m gnashing my teeth over the walker signing cuz he can’t rush for squat. My prediction is he has 1.5 sacks this yr. And i’m giving him the benefit of the doubt. But i still wouldn’t have offered dez that much money.

Smith as the starter but these other guys in rotation in new packages developed by the wildcat man himself.

telling you. the league is changing as far as atheletic qbs go. i think reggie is about to create a never before seen offense that may change football. just theorizing here
