Raiders get additional pick in sixth

The Raiders learned Monday they received a compensatory selection in the sixth round in the NFL draft based on free agents lost in 2012.

It is the second pick the Raiders own in the sixth round, other than their own. They also have picks in the firstr, third, fourth and seventh rounds.

Oakland lost its second-round pick as part of the deal for Carson Palmer in 2011, and its fifth-round pick in the Aaron Curry deal earlier that same season.

Compensatory picks cannot be traded.

Raiders twitter just posted a quote from DA saying he believes the heart and soul of any team begins along the lines.

The pick is gonna be whoever Reggie rates as the best lineman available on whatever side

    *********

I hope that DA actually thinks this way. We’ll see on draft day.

  • Scourge

hey, Thec, did’t we chat about this before. can you imagine how cool it would be if we drafted a lineman who’s actually names TRENCHMAN. Then, over time, we sign his 4 OL brothers. The photo of 5 guys on the OL with “TRENCHMAN” on their backs would be cool.

I think 8 of the final 8 teams were in the top 11 in offense.

3 of the final 8 teams were in the top 11 in defense.

Tell me again how defense guarantees wins??? Pitts didn’t even make the playoffs with the top defense!!

    =======================

actually it was a lot closer than that. out of the playoff teams:

6 were in the top 11 on total Def (Den,SF,Sea,Cin,Hou,GB)
7 were in the top 11 on total Off
    (Ne,Den,Was,Hou,Atl,Ind,SF)

8 were in the top 11 on ppg allowed
    (Sea,SF,Den,Atl,Cin,NE,Hou,GB)
9 were in the top 11 on ppg scored
    (NE,Den,Was,GB,Atl,Hou,Sea,Bal,SF)

if you are going top 8

5 were top 11 on total Def
5 were top 11 on total Off

7 were top 11 on PPG allowed
8 were top 11 in PPG scored

On NFLN they did a countdown of the biggest “One Shot Wonders” of all time and Rob Johnson was like 6th I think.

The narrator said (in regard to the Music City miracle game) that “although Johnson had a good game against the Titans, Tennessee’s miracle finish was just one more reason to put Rob Johnson # 6 on our countdown”.

Right there. The narrator openly states he had a “good game” but because of some fluke play that Johnson wasn’t even on the field for and had absolutely nothing to do with, it is a knock against him.

I’m not sticking up for Johnson. I’m not a “fan” of his or anything, but it just shows how stupid it is to throw EVERYTHING…good OR bad on the QB.

Sad part is everybody does it, unless it is inconvenient to do so.

We have posters here that go as far as to blame Palmer for the defense and special teams collapsing in Baltimore in a 55-20 loss saying it is the QB’s job to “inspire” the defense…and obviously Palmer failed to do that.

On the flip side, when a team wins the QB will get the credit most of the time. Even if he goes 3-20 with 6 int’s. If his team wins, he still “led” them to victory.

Just the way it is in the court of media and fans’ opinion.

They pay QB’s alot of $$$ to accept that responsibility.

Pttsburg didn’t have the #1 defense, seattle did, followed by SF, Chicago, Denver, and Atlanta. 4 of the top 5 total defense teams made the playoffs

the top 5 total offenses were New Engalnd, New Orleans, Detroit, Denver, and Washington. 3 of the 5 top offenses made the playoffs.

so neither a good offense alone or a good defense alone will get u into the playoffs. u gotta have both.

I remember one season where SD was 9-7 and they had the # 1 defense overall as well as the # 1 offense.

I guess u could do worse than 9-7. Maybe they won big in their victories and when they lost it was close…just weird.

#1 offense and #1 defense usually has to do with yards. It could be that they had a lot of yards but couldn’t score TDs and/or didn’t give up a lot of yards but gave up costly TDs. Like this year the raiders were 18th in total offense but 26th in ppg.

Scoring offense and defense means more in my opinion. Points are worth more than yards.

  • raiderinparadise

    Yards are tricky.

Look at Saints vs Raiders game last year.

If you look at the yards you just might think it was a good game LoL
