Raiders get additional pick in sixth

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Monday, March 18th, 2013 at 7:02 pm in Oakland Raiders.

The Raiders learned Monday they received a compensatory selection in the sixth round in the NFL draft based on free agents lost in 2012.

It is the second pick the Raiders own in the sixth round, other than their own. They also have picks in the firstr, third, fourth and seventh rounds.

Oakland lost its second-round pick as part of the deal for Carson Palmer in 2011, and its fifth-round pick in the Aaron Curry deal earlier that same season.

Compensatory picks cannot be traded.

Wow. I went to that link for that Falcons board and they are really up in arms about losing Vance Walker.

No one can understand letting him go to us.

They don’t understand letting go of a 25 yr. old kid just coming into his own that they developed in lieu of keeping this Jerry guy instead.

    ———————-

ya man.. plus he is only 25 yrs old.. i was posting some of their comments n the other thread.. some raider fans got mad that i was posting positive news on the new raider players haha. Dude looks like a good pickup.. how are bear fans reacting to the ROACH SIGNING in CHI – TOWN?

Pitts defense was the worse it’s been in 20 years.

Both top defenses were SB teams. It doesn’t gauarntee anything it just makes it easier to compete. You still need to score but a great defense keeps it close. If the defense can score itself they can put you over tyhe top as did Saints. That defense won it for the Saints.

The RAIDS ain’t drafting Geno and CP won’t be starting the entire year.

TP is going to get his shot.

There’s little doubt the attitude and desire are there. There’s no doubt the incredible physical talent is there. The passing ability is another matter.

Can TP be a franchise QB ? That’ll ultimately be determined by how consistently accurate he can be.

But I will say this again to the non-believers and those that want to continue traveling down the dead-end CP avenue…

RAIDS win more games with TP throwing for 2500 yards than they do with CP throwing for 4000.

Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

    here’s some truth:

the fewer players back from last year’s awful defense, the better.

reggie has signed 6 new defensive players.

not including kelly, they now have 6 DL under contract. and we’re moving to a 3-4, obviously.

bilukidi and crawford are reggie’s guys. they’re going nowhere.

the 3 new guys were not signed to be cut. and houston is a lock.

the front line is done. shareef/star? nope.

kelly and mcdunce wil be shopped. someone will give us something.

lots of youngsters in the secondary. plus newman and branch.

bergstrom and nix/vet FA fix the OL. winslow at TE.

lots of youth at WR. dmc/reece/stewart at RB.

    hoese/olawale at FB.

geno is a raider. VY and pryor will back him up. pryor will be a WR before long.

    >>>>

Thats some crazy stuff! No thanx…

    How about actual stats instead?

-90% of all QB’s in NFL history that threw for over 4000 yards won 8 or more games.

-CP’s QB rating DOUBLED in ranking last season when he got more than 2.6 seconds to pass.

GIVE THE GUY MORE TIME FOLKS!!!

Any chance Reggie takes a flier on Tom Zbrokowski? I’d love to have him!!

  • dr_robert

    the raiders currently have:

    2 qb’s (need 2 more for camp)
    5 rb/fb’s (2 more)
    7 wr’s (2 more)
    3 te’s (1 more)
    10 OL (5 more)

    8 DL ( including kelly) (need 9 total for a 3-4)
9 LB (including mcdunce) (need 12 total for a 3-4)
    8 DB’s (need 4 more)

3 ST (need 1 more kicker and 1 more punter, or a combo guy)

that would be 76 or 77.

  • dr_robert

    i don’t understand the non-love for geno.

three year starter at a big school
    numbers improved every year

    senior year:
    4205 yards
    71.2 comp %
    42 td’s
    6 int’s

  • dr_robert

    6-3/208

pretty good mobility but not a runner

    what’s not to love?

  • dr_robert

    i can tell u this:

geno won’t make it past arizona, buffalo, and the jets, at 7, 8, and 9.

there will be trade-up possibilities for sure.

or draft geno and ship palmer to one of them. i gotta think arizona wants to win now.

  • dr_robert

and now it looks like the bucs may give the jets the #13 pick for revis, which gives the jets a way to move up.

The guy I want to see next year is Burris. He was a beast rushing the passer in college and a lot of people liked him coming out.

I think he played out of position last year. It was good for him to get on the field and get experience as a rookie, though, even if need forced him to play somewhere else.

It looks by the signings thus far that they’re going to give him more opportunity to rush the passer this year. Looking forward to that.

Yawn,,rise n shine. Uh I see Big Reg is making more moves to fix the horrible run D we’ve been cursed with for many years buy signing good football players at reasonable prices. I read some reactions on a Falcons blog and alot of’em are very upset that they’ve lost Vance Walker. I’d much rather have Pat Sims and Vance Walker (known as Swagger Vance), than over the hill, over paid and under performed Kelly and Seymour. I’m assuming we won’t be taking Sharrif Floyed or Star Lotulelie at #3, so a trade down seems more realistic now to acquire a 2nd rnd pick. Looks like we’ll be drafting OLs and Cbs which works for me. Oh and let’s not jump off a cliff about Kellen Winslow,, he would probably be a camp body, or a backup TE, and at this point of his career he can’t afford to be a jackass so if he works out we win, if he doesn’t then we cut him, and we still win. Welcome to Raider Nation Swagger Vance.

Wonder if McKenzie has given Bernard Pollard a look-see.

Enforcer type safety, big hitter, however, limited in pass coverage.

Raiders missing the head-hunter in the defensive backfield, although, Missile Mike Mitchell is younger and fits the profile.

Doubt it. Word is he’s a pain in the ass and the Ravens couldn’t wait to get rid of him, even though Ed Reed is a FA and they could lose both starting safeties at the same time.

trade the 3rd overall to Arizona for the 7th (at 3, the Cards take Geno Smith)
trade the 7th to the 10th overall for the (Titans take Ezekiel Ansah at 7)

    acquire a 3rd in 2013, a 2nd in 2014
    acquire their 10th overall a 2nd in 2013, and a 5th in 2013

1 (10th) DT Sharrif Floyd falls, and they get their interior rush tackle in rotation with run stoppers
2 (from titans ) they get valuable o-line depth and insurance for Briesel or a RT in the versatile Barret Jones, C/T/G, Bama
3 ( from Cards ) the Raiders get their cover corner in Desmond Trufant or Darius Slay
3 ( ) the Raiders get their pass rusher in edge rusher Sean Porter or Mallicaih Goodman
4 ( ) the Raiders take their replacement Gavin Escobar or Vance McDonald at TE
5 (135th pick from AZ) Raiders take ILB Kevin Reddick or underrated rush end Aldrick Fordham, DE, S.Carolina
6 ( ) Trevardo Williams, LB, UConn or the road grading RT, Ricky Wagner of Wisconsin to fit that knew smash mouth run attack by OL coach T.Sporano
6 ( ) The Raiders roll with undersied pass rushing stud Stansly Maponga of TCU or C Khaled Holmes of USC

A pain in the a$% that basically WON them that game with a KO hit – several Pat receivers wanted no part of the ball following that drone strike on Steven Ridley.

I’m not giving you my opinion on the guy, I’m telling you what the rumors were in Baltimore.

If Ed Reed is a FA and they might lose him, don’t you think it’s at least a little strange that they don’t want to keep their other starting safety around?

Brandon Lloyd is a parallel example. Really good player, but the Pats let him go even though they were losing Welker. Why? Because he was a pain in the ass.

  • guest123

    Good morning Nation!

No to Kellen Winslow. He’s old, brittle, knees are shot, can’t practice anymore. Won’t block for anybody. Just wants his stats and taps the helmet, “coach get me outta here”.

Not even worth vet min. Pete Carrol ran him out of Seattle on a rail against what many considered lesser TE’s. No upside and huge downside of trying to depend on a guy just waiting to go on IR. Pass, please Reggie.

  • guest123

I realize we are in the mix for the “clowney sweepstakes”, but I’d much rather take my lumps with a young green rookie TE learning the ropes. At least he will have gotten the learning curve out of the way and be ready to produce in 2014. Winslow would just walk away. And it’s very likely he wouldn’t last 16 games. We need dependable production, not TE’s set for the glue factory.

  • hwnrdr

    No…I agree…NO to Winslow, Jr!

Pollard is borderline bi-polar, and ALWAYS fights internally with staffs and personnel people.

    Not an option for us.
