Raiders get additional pick in sixth

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Monday, March 18th, 2013 at 7:02 pm in Oakland Raiders.

The Raiders learned Monday they received a compensatory selection in the sixth round in the NFL draft based on free agents lost in 2012.

It is the second pick the Raiders own in the sixth round, other than their own. They also have picks in the firstr, third, fourth and seventh rounds.

Oakland lost its second-round pick as part of the deal for Carson Palmer in 2011, and its fifth-round pick in the Aaron Curry deal earlier that same season.

Compensatory picks cannot be traded.

Pollard will sign for a pretty small contract somewhere, maybe 2 years 4.5 million, and they will cut him after one year.

  • guest123

Some free agents are still out there because they are headcases, malcontents, locker room cancers, divas, etc. I don’t care if they have talent. I hope Reggie looks them over head to toe and stares each of the problem children in the eye and tells them to keep looking. Not welcome here.

  • Just Fire Baby

Pollard is one of the types who will be going along fine, the team is winning, and then he shows up to work on Wednesday literally wanting to fight his DC because of some 3rd down play he felt slighted on.

Vet locker rooms can corral him for a season, here he would dominate the locker room and it would eventually go sour.

Especially a locker room that is bound to go through tough times and maybe an extended losing streak. Bad attitudes starts to permeate from one vocal idiot and then unfortunately rub off on everyone. This is how coaches get fired.

I was really hoping for a 2nd 6th round comp pick. Some rumors that there may even be an additional 7th round pick to go with the 2 6th’s. But in the end we just get one 6th.

Looking at the Falcons boards (not all of them…I don’t have the time) I would definitely say they are way more upset about losing “Swagger Vance” than we are about losing Des Bryant.

Speculation is Oakland either paid way more money or offered starter role….or both.

My jury is still out on Reggie, but I love the complete re-do of this Raider defense.

It’ll be really nice to see all these new players out there….trying hard….playing w/ less mistakes and being more fundamentally sound…..we hope.

Even Burnette. He actually has a pair of pick 6′s to his credit (one against Palmer…yes I know which actually shouldn’t count since according to you guys he throws one every time he drops back to pass) but he’s somewhat of a playmaker it seems.

One thing I don’t like is signing Adams to only one yr. deal. If u like him…be willing to back it up a bit.

If Adams “balls out” he’s gonna demand a huge deal next yr. You don’t throw him out there hoping he doesn’t play like an all pro so u won’t have to pay him.

That’s the issue I have w/ one yr. deals like that.

Re: Adams, I think the one year deal is indication that he doesn’t like him enough. He needs a “prove it” contract. Next year if Reggie see’s his mistake, he’ll be swimming in cap space to sign Adams. I don’t see the downside of one-year deals now that we know the cap space won’t be an issue next year.

The RAIDS ain’t drafting Geno and CP won’t be starting the entire year.

TP is going to get his shot.

There’s little doubt the attitude and desire are there. There’s no doubt the incredible physical talent is there. The passing ability is another matter.

Can TP be a franchise QB ? That’ll ultimately be determined by how consistently accurate he can be.

But I will say this again to the non-believers and those that want to continue traveling down the dead-end CP avenue…

RAIDS win more games with TP throwing for 2500 yards than they do with CP throwing for 4000.

Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

Can we wait till something actually happens before getting in people’s face about it?

I remember some total azzwipe Packer fan on PFT site I think..or similar “debating” with Bears fans about a game that was coming up the next day and he said “Favre throws for 350…4 td’s and Packers wipe the field with you fagz….DEAL WITH IT!” as if it already happened. Bears ended up winning the game.

  • boss01

@seankjensen #Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie tells me Nick Roach’s versatility “jumped out”. Expects him to be every down player.

Your new starting MLB is here.

  • guest123

Ravens don’t have much money. If they end up signing Huff, it will be for far less than his dead money number with us. For all the crap Huff takes on this blog, he’s not as horrific as many claim him to be, but not nearly worthy of his draft pick status or previous contract value. He’d be a good stop gap for the Ravens while they re-tool on the cheap.

    71.2 comp %
    42 td’s
    6 int’s

It would be a no-brainer if we desperately needed a QB. But QB is actually the _ONLY_ position where we have a solid starter pro-bowler AND an exciting prospect backup. Name the other position this is even close to being true?

Plus we still have holes all over the roster. Its not like we just signed 4 pro-bowlers this week.

If Reggie hates BOTH our QB’s (which I don’t believe for a second to be true) I would rather he trades down a few times and snags one of the lesser known QB’s. Geno is the guy for a team with no QB options.

I agree.. I think he could be a perfect fit for the Ravens… if I were him I would sign a one year veteran minimum contract just to show what he can do on a team where he isn’t expected to be THE GUY. If it works he can demand top dollar next season. I have never been sold on him, I always thought he was always a step late, but I am pulling for him.

totally agree. BUT it’s a huge possibility that the new coaches have a plan for the new raiders and they want their own qb to see it through. we just need to accept this and start looking at geno in a different light because it could happen. 99% of us want a trade down to fill holes but it’s not a bad idea to brace ourselves for this scenario because its probably 50/50 chance

Earlier today I posted on the Oakland Raiders Message Board “Where the Raider Nation Lives”

I posted that there were rumors flying that Reggie McKenzie had hammered out a deal with the Bengals to trade Rolando McClain for a used Gatoraid bucket and a tampon dispenser for the Raiderettes locker room.

    Clearly a joke.

Some of the “mods” replied with their panties all in a bunch. They were indignant that I would dare post anything humorous on their board.

Later on I got a message telling me that I had been banned for life.

    I am crushed.

If we trade back but still in the top 12 you can add:

    Geno Smith
    Ezekial Ansah
    Xavier Rhodes
    Jonathan Cooper
    Lane Johnson

Not as impressed with Dion Jordan as others are, although I wouldn’t hate the pick.

Nice write up on Pat Sims from the Bengal forum “Stripe Hype”.

The Oakland Raiders have agreed to terms on a deal with former Bengals defensive tackle Pat Sims. It’s a great signing for the Raiders, who were in need of interior d-line help after Desmond Bryant left to sign a 5-year deal with the Cleveland Browns.
Sims is young, talented and actually has room to improve. (He’s just 27 and will be going into his sixth season in 2013). A stint on the PUP list due to a hamstring injury limited him to nine games last year, but he still registered 21 tackles, his first career interception, and a forced fumble, but it was his 6’2″ 335 lb frame that made the Bengals defensive line very challenging to run against. He graded at with a +2.0 in run defense according to Pro football Focus, which was a good rating considering he registered just 209 snaps in 2012. That translates to a +8.0 rating over an 800 snap season, which would have made him the third-best run defender on the Bengals behind only Michael Johnson(franchised tagged) and Geno Atkins (best DT in football)
Sims has earned the opportunity to sign a multi-year deal to be a starter on an NFL team, and when it comes to the Bengals, he wasn’t going to get either with the team already having Geno Atkins, Domata Peko, Devon Still, and Brandon Thompson under contract.
Personally, I’d rather have Sims at $2-3 million per year versus Peko at the $4.5 million average he’ll get in the next two seasons.
Alas, it was still a good run with Sims. Good luck to him in his future endeavors.
