Allen wants Raiders in it for the long haul

It may not be the message the fan base wants to hear after not having enjoyed a winning season since 2002, but coach Dennis Allen believes in patience and building a foundation for lasting success.

Talking to reporters at the NFL owner’s meetings in Arizona, Allen lauded the business models of teams such as New England, Atlanta and Baltimore.

“We’re really not into microwave economics, where you’re trying to get everything done right now, you’re trying to get out and make a big splash and you say, `Well, we won March,’ ‘’ Allen said. “We want to win November, December and January. That’s what we want this team to do (eventually).

Talking about the importance of building through the draft, Allen said, “If you want to look at the teams that have been able to draft well, they’re teams that, they’re in this year, they’re in next year, they’re in the year after that and the year after.

“That’s what we want to be . . . we don’t want to be a flash in the pan, where you show up for a year, and here we are, a playoff contender, and the next year you don’t hear from us. We want to build a team that’s going to compete year-in and year-out.’’

Regarding Carson Palmer and his $13 million salary, Allen declined to address the quarterback’s contractual issues, stressing that Palmer is currently the Raiders No. 1 quarterback but that every position would include competition.

An Allen Q&A from today’s press session at the owner’s meetings can be seen at this link on Raiders.com.

    Raiders Draft Un-Known from Div.III
    (AP)

The Oakland Raiders today announced the signing of UDFA Cody Platzprick out of Div.III Austin Peay. Platzprick is a 5’6 148 lb WR who earned the nick name “Ole Stone Hands” due to his propensity to drop nearly every pass thrown to him.

He made only 13 catches out of the 126 attempts thrown at him in his senior yr.

What makes the signing even more curious is that there is still question as to whether Platzprick will even be available to play due to his pending conviction in an attempted murder case in Alabama where a convenience store worker was shot in the back by Platzprick after the worker approached Platzprick outside the store as he suspected he had stolen a stack full of gay magazines.

After being approached Platzprick allegedly pulled out a european standard issue AK-47 and began firing at the fleeing employee.

“Listen. I’ve made mistakes just everyone else. Don’t judge lest you be judged. That’s what my mammy always told me”, Platzprick said.

Head Coach Dennis Allen commented on the signing by stating “Platzprick brings alot to the table. Sure he can’t catch, or block worth a hoot, but we feel he can help us somehow. We hope the league doesn’t suspend him, or that he’ll spend a long time in jail”.

The Raiders reluctantly confirmed the signing on their website.

Alright, seriously I hope DA will prove alot of us wrong. I just lost alot of faith in him after the product they put on the field last year. I know Knapps krapp had alot to do with it but DA was the HC and he over saw some of the worst Raider football I have seen. yeah I know, the last 10 years have ben bad but something was way off last year, even compared to the last 10.

Lets hope that getting the new regimes “own players” in here will help out DA get his message across and they buy into what he’s tryin to do. I think that might of ben part of the problem with some of the old regimes players, they didn’t buy into what he was sellin and either did a large portion of the fan base, but getting blown out like we did doesn’t give us alot of confidence, so hard to blame fans for not having much confidence in him. I still think he can change that really fast, as long as this years team competes in, we don’t have to win a bunch but we have to atleast compete while we are on the field

  • irjonny

Extend DA!! Make Reggie Owner!!! Draft Geno!!

  • irjonny

no seriously…draft geno. i’ll have season tickets next day.

geno is really really good despite what haters in here say. very smart too

Mayock ranks EJ Manuel 2nd best QB in draft and raves about his pro day today. He’ll def be shooting up the boards b/w now and draft – might effect our ability to trade down.

    ^^^^^^^^^
Yup. From a 3rd rounder to a for sure 2nd rounder….perhaps even late 1st rounder now for EJ

  • realtruraider

I would be ok with Geno, this new regime obviously wants their “own guys”. The QB is the most important part of the team and Reggie came from a team that had Favre for along time and then Rodgers. He, like everyone else knows you need that franchise QB to really be competitive in this league year in and year out. Palmer at this point in his career ain’t that guy and Reggie might have a chance at getting that QB sooner rather than later. I hope we don’t have alot of years were we are in position to pick the best QB in the draft and Im sure Reggie doesn’t either, maybe the time is NOW!

  • realtruraider

Was watching Path To The Draft today and saw some clip at EJ’s proday, I saw Raiders OC Olson and QB coach Flip in the back ground ummmmmmmm

  • RaiderRetribution

“Fine by me;” Reggie’s response to McClain’s agent.

Rolando is of no concern to the Raiders at all.

  • realtruraider

After what he posted on face book last year about the Raiders org, why should he be of any concern?

  • DKnight007

I think EJ may wind up being better than Geno if an OC utilizes EJ correctly.

I think EJ has better leadership skills and is of course bigger and stronger and can pass and run well.

I wonder how he processes info though and can he read defenses and audible.

  • irjonny

hmm i wonder if dummy rex ryan would trade revis for mcclain

I don’t think Mrs. McClain would trade Revis for McClain.

  • davidivad

Pryor is an amazing athlete who was crazy good all through high school and college and his passing ability is underrated, passing stats are about as good as Geno with the added ability to run and even catch. I know Palmer will start the season, but throw Pryor in at times, and if Palmer still can’t find the endzone(which was the reason for many of our losses) give the kid a chance. Based on college success and athletism you would be a fool to take Geno or EJ over Pryor so drafting a QB is insane (especially when we need a d).

Jason Tarver HC of the Raiders (in 2014 or absolute latest 2015) – book that. He’s the next Chuckie – watch him coach – he’s got the fire, the passion and the brains to pull it off. That’s a real Raiders coach right there fellas.

    Yep, agree.
I was the first on here to say this, mid-season of 2012, and was laughed at. But it’ll happen eventually.

    Rude,

once again, I think you are confusing yourself. that makes consecutive weeks. Are you not able to remember things that YOU type?

you type something like “With Pryor or Geno we are a 3-4 win team.”

I reply “newsflash: Palmer we WERE a 4 win team”

then you follow with this ??

“This whole 4 wins argument is getting old and doesn’t apply real logic.

With Pryor or Geno on last years team, we win 1-2 games.”

Ok so you brought up the 4 win thing with other QB’s as a projection. I think you back to reality and tell you we’re a 4win team right now then you get mad and say the 4 win thing is getting old and doesn’t apply to logic? then why did you bring it up? and how do you know? from Pryor’s 1 start, the first of his NFL career? and Geno? another unknown. Then you turn back time and say these kids couldn’t even get to 3 wins on last year’s team which doesn’t apply, lol

I don’t like to resort to name calling bro, but your material in here is straight up mind boggling. Seems like your last memory and your next thought are always fighting with eachother. If you want to keep Palmer – fine. It’s easy to see why you’re in that category. You don’t have a clue as to why you want to keep him apparently … or just can’t seem to type it out appropriately

  • RaiderRockstar

Four out of whack contracts remain
    Palmer Kelly McFadden & McClain
    You’re so vain
You probably think this post is about you
    Don’t you

    ***

    LOL @ Retribution !!

  • edward teach

The reason we keep Palmer is that there is no better alternative right now. You don’t take Geno Smith with the third pick in the draft when your team needs so many other pieces, and Pryor is NOT ready to be an NFL starter.

Folks point to Kaepernick as “evidence” that Pryor could step in and lead us to victory. I would challenge those folks to watch the Super Bowl, and then tell me with a straight face that Pryor can make the throws that Kaepernick can. Not in a million years.

  • raiderlization

Genos got chicken legs and will be hurt befor you know it! why do you look at stats to determin what a QB can do. Stats can be manipulated.

  • raiderlization

Like I have said Pamer has shown us in all of his years what? that he is a QB? Not a winning QB, not a accurate QB, but an expensive QB. You dopes that think he will lead us to the playoffs are just as dumb as Dmervilles ex-agent! What body of work have you seen? Pryor is not better than Palmer stat wise sure but he has an imagination. Palmer is stale and only cares about his stats, not winning as he has proved time and time again that he can’t score in adversity he can only fail by forcing passes resulting in INT’s. Pryor atleast we don’t know. it’s like a boxer he is good until he is knocked out. Well Pamer has been down several times, no more title fights left in him just pay days! This will be the end of D.A. if he goes into this season with Palmer at QB. Thank god we have four coacehs that have HC experience on the roster we wont have to look far. D A say hello to Greg Knapp!lmao

  • raiderlization

Alex Smith can’t make the throws that Kapernick made! Not even Payton Manning! lisien to the talking heads and the short game that welker brings to Manning due to him not being able to throw to the outside WR’s! So? You say this to say what? Palmer can’t make the throws Kapernick makes he throws INT’s! LMAO It’s not about copying or imitating it’s about his game and he won in the past with over 60% accuracy let him have a chance you put up with a lot worse with Grads,McClown,Jabuster,Brooks,Campbell,Garcia, ect.

  • Just Fire Baby

I don’t get where people say that in 2014 there will be better QB’s than Geno. I disagree highly with that. In Smith you have a guy with ZERO durability issues, off-the charts intangibles and smarts, and perfect size.

    The 2014 draft class has:

Aaron Murray- I am a huge fan, but he has size issues that Geno doesn’t, and has had some college stinkers in big games.

Johnny Manziel – Better runner than Geno, but he can’t spin it like Smith can. Major, major off the field red flags as well, that Smith doesn’t have. The pre-draft process will not be kind to Manziel.

Teddy Bridgewater – I don’t think he has the arm talent as Smith, although it is close. Bridgewater has also gotten banged up in college, another season with some lingering issues this year and he will have that chasing him around a little

Tahj Boyd – Nowhere near the thrower Geno is, and was told he was a 3rd or 4th round pick this year, thus why he went back to school.

Star’s Pro-Day is today! Time to get some news on our new DT/NT…dude is the most explosive and powerful player since Haloti to be available for the draft…And we ALL know how important he was to the Ravens…especially their linebacking corps…
Unless someone wants to hand us half of their draft..we absolutely MUST draft this kid. Sideline to Sideline pursuing DT’s/NT’s are a rarity, and we could have this guy for the next 5 years(Because after that we all know we will probably lose him to free agency)

    Lets go get him REGGIE!

    ——–
Actually I’ve been very consistent with my stance. Instead of just reading but actually comprehending you would understand this. I’ll break it down for you to help you out.

I feel when Reggie first came in we were an 8-8 team. We proved that by going 8-8 in the previous two years.

DA comes in and we end up 4-12. I contribute the 4 losses to poor coaching since we basically had the same talent.

I believe with the team we currently have we could be 8-8 with proper coaching. Since our talent on offense is still basically the same and our D couldn’t be much worse than Chucky B’s Defense.

However, without Palmer (and Pryor or Geno instead) we are a 4 Win Team and without proper coaching (like last year) we would be a 1-2 win team.

Its really not that complicated. In my opinion the difference between a good QB and a bad QB would equate to half as many wins. I think the one position you should not bargain shop for is the QB.

So take some time, comprehend what I’m writing. If you still don’t get it, that is unfortunate for you. You might be able to receive some assistance from here: http://berkeley.universitytutor.com/Reading%20Comprehension?sort=price

I remember really hoping that we would trade up to the top of the second round for Kaepernick after the first ever draft where they split the first and second rounds. Nephew Wiz has been a solid pick for us, but I remember being very dissapointed in not trading up for Kappy. Still wish we had done that. Not hating just cuz he’s a fairy niner. not his fault.
