Report: McClain gets OK to seek trade

UPDATE: The Raiders declined to address whether McClain had been given permission to seek a trade, citing their policy against discussing contracts or trades.

Middle linebacker Rolando McClain has been given permission to seek a trade out of Oakland, according to an NFL Network report.

It has been clear that since McClain’s suspension last season for conduct detrimental to the team _ which occurred after he learned he was losing his starting job to Omar Gaither _ that the first-round draft pick in 2010 was not in their plans.

It has become even more apparent this offseason, with the Raiders signing linebackers Kaluaka Maiava, Nick Roach and Kevin Burnett in free agency to go along with 2012 weak side starter Miles Burris.

Dealing McClain is a difficult proposition. He is due a salary just over $4 million and has had problems off the field. In theory McClain could accept a trade at a reduced salary.

If McClain’s agent cannot find a suitable trade partner, the three-year veteran will be released with a salary cap hit at a reported $7 million.

Wow, the Steelers just signed Bruce Gradkowski to a three year deal.

Tomlin met personally with Gradkowski to “woo” him into signing and gave him “Steelers Winner speech.”

Not saying that Tomlin is a better evaluator of talent than Mistic and Debo though.

Hilarious. A final f#ck you to McClain.

Reggie: “Yeah, go on out there and see what kind of trade value you have.”

Knowing good and well he has ZERO trade value, and if a team gives up anything for him, it will be no more than a 7th.

I don’t get the analysis they gave for us. “what are they doing at quarterback”

i mean we have a 4,000 yd passer coming back, even though he is grossly overpaid and needs to restructure to stay. we also have a young guy who came in and played ok, not great, not horrible. I’ve definitely seen worse (notably the starting qb for the #1 ranked team in this power ranking, he was pretty horrible a couple games early last season).

at least we have viable qb options. AZ, Buf, and Cleveland all have bigger qb concerns than we do. these fools love to hate on the raiders.

i really hope Pryor turns out. that way we don’t have to draft and groom a new QB. Palmer will help him along and TP will work his azz off for the spot.. if he gets to a point where he almost takes Palmer’s spot this upcoming season, i will say he’s about ready and we can drop Palmer

i’d rather spend draft picks on guys like Star or Jordan rather than Geno.. or next year getting Clowney instead of a QB. we need those guys a lot more for our defense. fact of it is, Palmer or Pryor can lead our offense if they’re in the right system. Olsen is going to bring that back this year regardless of who’s starting.

Absurdity. At least Pryor was good in college. Stanton has sucked in the NFL and was mediocre at Michigan State. Last time Stanton was good was in HS. Not saying TP is gonna be an All-Pro, but Id take my chances with him and his athleticism, and seeing if I could get something out of him, over Stanton. The QB evaluations in this league and in the media are downright ridiculous.

I know he hasn’t produced for us but fellas I would hate for him to go to another 3-4 an be a SOLID inside backer like he was at Bama especially if were gonna use more 3-4 looks! Don’t need to eat anymore money so we need to get SOMETHING for him. Who know Flynn for Rolando, Pete likes to take chances on players!? THink we’ll get Grimes?? Or at least Jenkins Corner can;t go at it with just rookie corners unless we have a BRUTAL front 7 and don’t think that’s gonna happen even though could be very solid

he was only good in college because of Saban and his overpowering defense. ANYTIME OL focused on him, he’d get STOOD UP everytime. that was the big red flag about him coming out of college. he couldn’t get off blocks. LOW AND BEHOLD he had those problems in the NFL… and he will continue to. when it MATTERS MOST to stop a RB from moving the chains, he FAILS miserably, even when he had a straight shot at the guy.

you don’t have to worry about him being a stud on any team. he’ll be a career backup.

    DL : Sims, Walker, Hunter
    LB: Maiava, Roach, Burnett

6 additons, all solid players … all done with little money.

Oakland signed 3 good LB’s for less than what Miami signed Wheeler for.

and 3 talented run stoppers on DL for wayyyy less than what Cleveland paid for Bryant.

Bad teams overpay for average talent, thats why they stay bad teams.

Reggie is doing great with his piggy bank.

Tommy Kelly the next order of business, I expect.

    TRUTH!

and that’s why Star is the pick @ #3 overall.

we are losing 2 more DT’s(4 total) and we gained Walker and Sims.. who haven’t exactly been starters. Walker will probaly be a starter here, but regardless, we need more studs up front.

Someone will take a chance on McClain but not at that price. They will wait until he is released. The damage to the Raiders is a lost #1 draft pick who should be holding down the middle of the D. It’s almost rebuilding everything from scratch now.

Accurate assessment of McClain. I think sometimes we tried to hope that he would be alright, just because he had on a Raiders uniform and we were tired of our 1st round picks bombing, but Rolando just was never very good for us. Aside from a couple of big hits, most notably the Darren Sproles hit, what else did he ever do for us? We seen the type of player he is the last few seasons. Not a very good one.

the WWF suplex on Amendola … and the sproles hit… yeeeaaaa… that’s about it…

he’s not a good LB, period! he is what he is. year 3 more than proved it for me. even if he had a horrible D around him(true story), he was NEVER a leader on the field.

FACT: our run D was better when he was off the field and Gaither or Burris was in his stead. the overall defense was clearly playing harder and going after the ball. McLame would play on his heals all day.

I think he’s a beast too. Jared Allen 2.0 Would be my choice as well. But all them mocks have him falling into the low teens. I’d love to pick him up after trading down and picking up a second rounder. At #3, I think that’s foolish given his perceived draft value.

  • willy91137

this is the way I look at it we keep them Carson Palmer this year got a full year to look at Prior.

Prior works out good don’t have to draft a quarterback and maybe spend a year groom and him.

so we will be head in the game I’m sure that’s what Reggie’s got in mind

that next year will have all of our draft picks up and a lot more Money

so maybe we can get a running back and wide receiver and some offense

or offenses lineman make sense to me and(I’m sure the doctor thinks it’s all wrong) ##########################

i think 3 is more valuable than 6, esepcially if a qb is involved. qbs are generally worth more than CBs like it or not. we should be able to get at least a second this year for our number 3. trades are crazy. everything is different. remember when atlanta moved up to get julio jones?

“Atlanta gave the Browns five — five! — draft picks: their 1st- (27th overall), second- (59th) and fourth-round (124th) picks this year and their first- and fourth-round picks in 2012.”

thats a lot of picks for a receiver. but it worked out for them i think bc he is a top 3 wr in the nfl. str8 gamebreaker. and teams will give up a lot if they feel the player is worth it.
