By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Wednesday, March 20th, 2013 at 5:33 pm in Oakland Raiders.

With Mike Mitchell announcing on Twitter that he will be a Carolina Panther, it’s official. The Raiders draft class of 2009 is no more.

To review:

1: WR Darrius Heyward-Bey, Maryland

2: SS Mike Mitchell, Ohio

3. DE Matt Shaughnessy, Wisconsin

4a: WR Louis Murphy, Florida

4b:LB Slade Norris, Oregon State

6a: DE Stryker Sulak, Missouri

6b: TE Brandon Myers, Iowa

    “Raiders

Notable Additions: LB Nick Roach, LB Kevin Burnett, OLB Kaluka Maiava, DT Pat Sims and DT Vance Walker.

Notable Subtractions: TE Brandon Myers, DT Desmond Bryant, OLB Philip Wheeler, RB Mike Goodson, DE Matt Shaughnessy, WR Darrius Heyward-Bey and DB Michael Huff.

The bloodletting continues. For the second straight offseason, the Raiders are shedding talent instead of adding it. This, of course, is by design. Al Davis was one of the most brilliant minds in football history, but had become a sad caricature of himself by the end, leaving behind a hopelessly misshapen and overmatched roster. The contracts were as outsized as the patience was undersized.

But that doesn’t change the fact than an already terrible team has taken a turn for the sad, sorry and defeated. This was a 3-13 roster before free agency began. Now, you almost have to strain to find a single win. It will be even harder if/when Carson Palmer is cut loose.

Roach was an under-the-radar signing, while DHB won’t be missed. But Bryant, Wheeler and Goodson are all on-the-rise talents, while Burnett, Huff and Myers are more than serviceable. Oakland was a bad, bad, bad team. Now, it’s a truly pathetic one. ”

I disagree, but it is what it is…until they prove people wrong and start upsetting teams left and right, its going to be a perception that follows Oakland.

  • inonewordraider

i liked the arron brooks signing when it happened, thought he looked good in NO

but poor guy would get sacked before even getting the snap, our oline was HORRIBLE

  • dr_robert

Missdick thinks if a black guy succeeds, it somehow means he succeeds. He’s a lose and will always be a loser cuz of his moronic way of thinking. Most successful black men would gladly see missdick eat a dick.

Missdick talking play book and ny times. I talk actually watching them play. U never watched mcnabb play at Syracuse. I did.

    no dr slob

I NAMED DELEON HE ARRIVED AT CUSE IN THE MD 80′S AND INSTALLED THE FREEZE OPTION THAT CUSE USED ALL THE WAY THROUGH THE MCNABB ERA. IN 88 MCNABB BECAME A SUPER STAR AND WAS CHALLENGEING TO BE THE NUMBER 1 QB DRAFTED

I WATCHED CUSE SINCE DON MCPHERSON WAS THE QB & USED THE NY TIMES AND PLAYBOOK TO BACK UP MY CLAIM.

what do you have to back up your?

8-9-10 ding ding ding another smashing first round ko at the hands of the supavillian

Free agency grades (or winners and losers) and draft grades (or winners and losers) always struck me as odd and asinine.

Evaluators can’t really gauge the impact (or non-impact) a free agent addition has on a team until the team has played the majority, if not all, the games during a season.

A team can sign a no-name guy and have him breakout. Flip the coin a team can sign a big-name guy and have him turn into a flop.

  • Raiderjambo

Not a big Geno fan, but WTF are “slow eyes”? Use to be we evaluated a QB by his smarts, arm strength and mobility in the pocket. Now we have tape studiers (who’ve probably never played any kind of contact sport), telling us who is a better QB because of his film study! Absolute hogwash! Remember “Ole Raider” fans, the king of film studiers Ron Jaworski, got his butt handed to him by none other than our beloved Jim Plunket!

what does your question have to do with nassib vs manual and geno

are there any black qb’s in the nfl that you don’t think are good?
    _____________
i’m asking because i’m of the opinion that you want black qb’s to succeed and black people to succeed in all walks of life for that matter so i wonder if you’ll ever negatively evaluate a black qb

i think joe webb sucks, and not just because you like him, same for tavaris jackson
    =====================

    who cares?

however if ponder gabbert cassel sanchez locker and the like can be starters so can the others

none of this has anything to do with my take that ej manual and geno smith are on a different planet than nassib

U think a guy named air McNair was an option qb. Ur a fool.

  • jackasspuria

    Mistic1 Tha Supavillain

Like yourself, Cosell is entitled to his opinion.

But dude watches game film of prospects from first snap to last. He doesn’t just get bits and pieces. He watches a game from its entirety to its conclusion.

Game film is a religion to Cosell.

And so, when he breaks down a prospect, I tend to take his word over Mayock, Kiper and others.

Cosell is not perfect, everyone an be wrong. But, he watches film instead of following the masses/popular notions.

    Ourlads’ scouting report on Terrelle Pryor;

TERRELLE PRYOR made the Oakland Raiders’ depth chart: Ohio State, 6053 236 4.45. Three-year starter with record of 31-4. An ascending right-handed pro quarterback prospect with unique and versatile athletic ability. Possesses the talent and skill set to contribute early in his career and provide impact play. Big, strong, and athletic enough to play a slot receiver position while he is learning all nuances of NFL quarterback play. Caught 3 passes for 2 touchdowns in Buckeye career. In 2010 he demonstrated a command of the offense. When passing the ball he had good arm strength and velocity to throw vertical and all NFL three level routes. Good footwork and balance in the pocket. Keeps his feet alive. Good deep ball accuracy at 50 yards plus. He can hit a moving target in stride downfield with few adjustments.

Ball is wobbly at times. Not a perfect spiral. Holds ball up chest to shoulder high. He has developed touch on checkdowns, swing passes, and screens. Quick set up to the throwing point when taking the snap from under center. Approximately a 60/40 ratio of spread shotgun to pro style snap under center. Has a deliberate delivery with a quick wrist snap to get the ball out to his receivers.

The nose of the ball will drop at times on short routes causing the football to dive and fall short of the target. Improved his ability in 2010 to pre-read, sight adjust, and locate secondary receivers. Noticeable improvement in his field vision and awareness in 2010. Appeared to read defenses better out of the shotgun than when taking snaps and dropping back to throwing point. Better anticipation in 2010 but rarely had to throw into tight windows.

His receivers were generally wide open. Poised in the pocket. Was more confident with his protection in 2010. Keeps his eyes down the field. Has courage, doesn’t panic, and is determined to stay in the pocket. Stands tall and steps up when he feels pressure. Spreads the ball around to wide receivers, backs, and tight ends. Throws the complete route tree vertically and horizontally. Can make plays on the move, particularly running and passing to his left”

  • dr_robert

Missdick–back my claim? The historical fact of mcnabb backs my claim. Watch his reel. I compared him to geno. Similar skill set. Their highlights are nearly identical. Most experts compare the two.

On the other hand u compared geno to Tom Brady, an immobile pass-only guy who no one has ever compared to geno.

I win. U lose. As usual.

slha slah s;leh nothing in my yukon corneleiuos voice

mcanbb and geno are completely different

geno barley ran any otpion at wvu he ran air raid spread off shott of run and shoot

mcnabb ran freeze otpiton and could score with his feet from 60 yards

    geno has never done that

brady uses the air raid spread like geno at at wvu

brady and geno’s strength is quick intermediate passing

geno is mobile but that is not the strength of his game

mcnabb strength was improvising and the deep ball he became a wco qb in the pros

please your making a spectacle of yourself dr slob

How many of the draft Geno advocates watched his last game against Syracuse ?

    I did.

Saw enough to doubt whether Geno will ever be more than a mediocre NFL QB.

Saw enough to know Geno definitely isn’t ready to be an immediate NFL starter.

Not impressed with what I saw of Geno’s throwing at the combine or his pro-day either.

Arm strength and accuracy are good, but not outstanding.

His delivery is over choreographed and too robotic.

This is not a pure passer or a guy that will do particularly well when required to move his feet or alter his delivery at all.

GENOT ready to start in NFL.
GENOT likely to be a franchise QB.
GENOT being drafted by the RAIDS anyway.

  • dr_robert

What a complete fool. Ur comparing schemes. Who cares? I’m comparing skill sets. Are u telling me u can only compare qbs who run the same scheme and therefore geno is like Brady? What an ignoramus. Schemes are incidental. Skills are what matter.

Who cares what Tom Brady runs? And where it evolved from? We aren’t talking about comparing offenses. We are talking about comparing a players abilities.

Geno has a strong arm, good accuracy, and while a pass-first guy, has good mobility.

That’s mcnabb. McNair. Moon. Not Brady.

Barkley compres much more to Brady. Accurate. Immobile. Questionable arm strength. Smart.

Leinart compares to Brady. Poorly. But similar “types”.

U continually show that u completely lack any sense.

  • IGAG

Reggie and DA love short stacks and waffles with buttery flavored and lots of jams and syrups. Sometimes even a platter full of hash browns and sausage and gravy over them. A slice of ham and a half dozen fried eggs over hard. A gallon of milk and a full apple pie.
