Raiders turn sights toward cornerback

Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie spent much of the first two weeks of free agency addressing the front seven on his team’s defense. Now, McKenzie has shifted his sights toward doing something about the dearth of talent at cornerback.
The Raiders reportedly are interested in veteran cornerbacks Mike Jenkins and Tracy Porter. Jenkins played for the Dallas Cowboys his first five NFL seasons. Porter spent last season with the Denver Broncos after spending his first four NFL seasons with the New Orleans Saints.
As of now, the Raiders are without a proven starting cornerback on their roster. Ron Bartell and Shawntae Spencer started at cornerback in the opener last season, but they now are free agents that aren’t likely being asked back by McKenzie.
Earlier this month, the Raiders checked into the prospect of signing veteran cornerback Terence Newman. As of last night, Newman said he still hasn’t decided whether to re-sign with the Cincinnati Bengals or go with the Raiders.
Regardless, it’s likely that the two players that start for the Raiders in the 2013 regular-season opener aren’t even on the roster right now. Signing Jenkins and/or Porter would change that right away.
This year’s draft features more than a handful of highly regarded cornerbacks, so McKenzie could find additional help through that avenue.
Some mock drafts project the Raiders taking Alabama cornerback Dee Milliner with the third pick of the first round. It says here, McKenzie either trades away the No. 3 pick for multiple draft picks or uses the selection on an offensive or defensive lineman.

    Down south

    See my 273 post.

You guys make the 2011 team sound like it won the super bowl!

That offense got dominated down the stretch by good teams.

We scored againt the Lions but still could not run out the clock.
I actually agree… however… first half of 2011 DMC the #1 back in the league… then he goes out for the rest of the season and Palmer comes off the couch…
you are absolutely correct about the line… we need 2 quality starters and 1 Micheal Bush like back to take some of the punishment between the tackles off of DMC… and run downhill in the 4th quarter…

We also need a TE and #1WR… but that is just going to have to wait until next year… with Turner and 2 quality linemen… I would feel pretty good about the offence this year…

Palmer should be here to stay, period. Geno isn’t a better option than bolstering our Defense. Anyone saying otherwise doesn’t know how perilous it is to have 2 unproven QB’s as your options for starters.

Why do you guys get on here and bash the Raiders everything they do is wrong
Well IF TOU so damn smart how come you’re not runing a team

why don’t you get on the blog of the team you like

the obviously don’t like this one

No players are good enough for you I just don’t get it

Or the opposite MUST be true…..we LOVE this TEAM….and HATE to see it RUN INTO the ground by this ground of NEPOTISTIC MEN…so we spend our TIME (our most valuable commodity) to spread the knowledge that this TEAM is GOING ABSOLUTELY NO WHERE….
backstageatapuppetshow has illustrated his point by giving us a prime example of “GOING ABSOLUTELY NO WHERE”, ie his never ending, chicken little, sky is falling rants. He’s a glass half full kind of guy, unfortunately, his glass is half full of whine.

    Sounds personal to me?

I think they should hold on to palmer a while because there are 31 other teams ou
