Report: Palmer ‘unlikely’ to restructure contract

Quarterback Carson Palmer helped out the Raiders last year by restructuring his contract. He isn’t intent upon doing so again this year, according to a report Monday.
An ESPN report said Palmer is “highly unlikely” to redo a contract that calls for Palmer to earn $13 million in base salary this season.
Last season, Palmer helped the Raiders save more than $9 million in salary-cap room by restructuring his contract.
Palmer’s base salary dropped from $12.5 million to $825,000, in exchange for an $11,675,000 signing bonus spread out over five years. In terms of dollars, Palmer ultimately will receive the same amount he originally was scheduled to make.
As of now, Palmer counts $15.335 million against the cap for 2013, with $2.335 million coming as a result of the prorated portion of the signing bonus – spread out over five years — from last season’s reworked deal.
The Raiders already have restructured a few contracts this offseason as a means of freeing up cap room. Restructuring Palmer’s contract a third time – the first time came after the Raiders traded for him in 2011 – would give the Raiders even more cap room for 2013.
If Palmer balks, the Raiders options are limited to: cutting Palmer or paying him what he is slated to earn as of now. Palmer would count $9.34 million against the cap if he gets cut, though the Raiders would get out from under the $13 million base salary this season and $15 million base salary for 2014.
Palmer could not be reached for comment. A Raiders spokesman said the team’s policy is not to comment on contract situations.

I want Palmer right here this year…or until someone takes his job from him ON THE FIELD.

However…if we can stay in the top-7 this draft, and get a high 2nd this year, along with a few other usable picks this year and next…it’s time to cut the cord on Palmer.

Without a big deal like that mentioned above…Carson Palmer needs to steer this ship.

The best possible scenario is Pryor turns out to be a guy who can win games. Then u don’t worry about drafting a QB next yr.

I’m not enamored by Pryor’s passing either but I’m not convinced he can’t improve on it either.

The camp and preseason will go a long way in determining what his future will be.

We’ll see if the tutoring and workouts get him to where we need him to be, but his work ethic, humility, and drive go a long way…with me at least.

We’ll see in about 17 weeks? Ugggh. Long wait.

give you the quarterback? why throw away a pick on the equivilant of aaron brooks when you could get the equivilant of Ngata in Star with the #3 this year, and the equivilant, (or better) of Steve Young in Manziel next year? Because you’re a short sighted, impatient, fool? That’s the only reason I can see for such an idiotic choice… Geno is a back up, and if he is forced into a starting role , he will be out of the league in three years.

Arizona isn’t going to trade for Palmers 13 million dollar contract when they can just wait for him to be cut and get him for half as much.
==================================================No one seems to get that. Let alone throw in draft picks. Even if they got into a bidding war with one or two other teams, they’d probably be the favorite with better prospects and west coast proximity and still get him at 10 million or so.

Teams can work out a restructure with Palmer after the trade.

Just like we did when we traded for him.

It does limit our trade bargaining though, thus the return for Palmer will be as pathetic as his time here in Oakland.

Just a few more players I can see be on the radar for us by Reggie to look at drafting or as UDFA signings .

Draft insider Tony Pauline believes Stony Brook WR Kevin Norrell “has some Victor Cruz to him.”
Norrell ran a 4.53 forty during the school’s pro day and measured in at 5090/208 pounds. Pauline has “always liked him on film,” and a comparison to the undrafted Cruz is certainly high praise for a player flying under the radar.

Tulsa H-back Willie Carter ran his forty in the 4.45-4.52 range during the school’s pro day.
Carter is drawing interest form the Packers and Eagles, per Pauline. At Tulsa, Carter was used from a variety of sets, specifically as a detached receiver. He sports a thick frame and runs hard after the catch. He’d be worth a shot as a camp invite.

Missouri Western DE David Bass has private workouts scheduled with the Panthers and Rams.
Bass was considered the most consistent pass rusher at the Easy-West Shrine, using his stocky stature to gain leverage and keep offensive linemen on skates. He was also one of the few to display counter moves after his initial momentum was stopped. Expect a mid-third day selection.

NFL Network’s Mike Mayock has moved Missouri DT Sheldon Richardson up to the No. 2 player at his position.
The move is just up one spot, but only Sharrif Floyd is ranked higher. Utah’s Star Lotulelei is ranked among the 3-4 defensive ends. Sylvester Williams, Kawann Short, and Johnathan Hankins round out the top five players at the position according to Mayock.

Georgia CB Sanders Commings posted 23 bench press reps at the school’s pro day.
This would have been the most among corners at the NFL Combine, however, Commings sat out the event due to a slight labrum injury that occurred during Senior Bowl practice. Per Tony Pauline, Commings has already met with the Patriots and Saints and has upcoming workouts with Titans, Panthers, and Eagles and the Jaguars have shown interest. Commings fits best in a press man scheme.

Tennessee WR Zach Rogers ran forty times of 4.49 and 4.50 seconds at the school’s pro day.
The Vols’ third receiver measured in at 6’1″ and 182 pounds. He also recorded a 9′ 7″ in broad jump, a 32 inch vertical, 4.30 short shuttle and 6.72 three-cone. We really like Rogers as a late round possibility, even though he had a quiet pre-draft process.

NFL Films’ Greg Cosell believes Stanford RB Stepfan Taylor is an “intriguing litmus test.”
“Tough, durable inside grinder with no special athletic qualities,” Cosell tweeted. Taylor isn’t fast, but he runs hard and made defenders miss at the second level. We expect the big Stanford runner to be a third day selection.

Princeton DE Mike Catapano ran in the low 4.7s and measured in at 6’4/271 pounds during the school’s pro day.
Catapano has an incredibly strong upper body and uses it to press pass blockers as an edge rusher. He’s a bit too tight for out liking, but Catapano has solid tape and didn’t look overmatched at the East-West Shrine game. He also recorded 33 bech press reps, 37.5 inch vertical, and a 7.03 second three cone.

Colorado OL David Bakhtiari was worked out by a Cincinnati Bengals assistant OL coach during the school’s pro day.
Bakhtiari stood on his numbers from the Combine. We expect the early declaree to make the switch inside to guard, since he possesses a natural aggression but tends to lose when overextending.
