Report: Palmer ‘unlikely’ to restructure contract

Quarterback Carson Palmer helped out the Raiders last year by restructuring his contract. He isn’t intent upon doing so again this year, according to a report Monday.
An ESPN report said Palmer is “highly unlikely” to redo a contract that calls for Palmer to earn $13 million in base salary this season.
Last season, Palmer helped the Raiders save more than $9 million in salary-cap room by restructuring his contract.
Palmer’s base salary dropped from $12.5 million to $825,000, in exchange for an $11,675,000 signing bonus spread out over five years. In terms of dollars, Palmer ultimately will receive the same amount he originally was scheduled to make.
As of now, Palmer counts $15.335 million against the cap for 2013, with $2.335 million coming as a result of the prorated portion of the signing bonus – spread out over five years — from last season’s reworked deal.
The Raiders already have restructured a few contracts this offseason as a means of freeing up cap room. Restructuring Palmer’s contract a third time – the first time came after the Raiders traded for him in 2011 – would give the Raiders even more cap room for 2013.
If Palmer balks, the Raiders options are limited to: cutting Palmer or paying him what he is slated to earn as of now. Palmer would count $9.34 million against the cap if he gets cut, though the Raiders would get out from under the $13 million base salary this season and $15 million base salary for 2014.
Palmer could not be reached for comment. A Raiders spokesman said the team’s policy is not to comment on contract situations.

If Raiders stay at #3 then McK better take Jordan, Ansah or Star.

If he takes Floyd, I’m going to be pissed.

  • ESETERIK78

Unless there’s one player that Reggie is really in love with, I can’t see him NOT trading #3. Reggie’s a big man and he needs to buy in bulk. I think some teams going to come around and offer Reg multiple picks for it, and he’s going to do it.

  • oklahomaRaider18

So when do you think Reggie will pull the trigger on signing T.Porter&M.Jenkins???

  • HayesDaze37

The hypothetical move with AZ would mean they take our #3 pick in the 1st and we take their 7th pick.

That means they can address their O-Line, getting one of the best on the board…while getting the veteran QB they covet.

Arians can probably get equal returns from a few QB’s in this draft class…there’s no reason for him to go high on Geno, or another equally-rated project, when he needs somebody ready to go last year.

JFB likes to point to Palmers low sack numbers as evidence of an acceptable ‘O’ line, but Palmer can make the hot read and get rid of it quick. And had to a lot. That is part of the problem.

If Arians has a shotgun-type gimmick , specializing on the hotread and decent slot receivers like he had with T.Y. Hilton of Colts – i could see that happening. He’d have Rashard Mendenhall, too.

will they do the deal, or just wait out Reggie?

Floyd will overwhelmed just like most top 5 DT’s that are drafted high usually are. Floyd also has short arms so that means if will need to develop swim moves.

Who cares if Jordan is coming off injury. He will be ready by the time camp breaks.

This team needs versatile pass rusher who can also cover. Team doesn’t need another 3 tech. They have a 3 tech in Houston already.

    B-Man,

How’d u come up with Aaron Rodgers? I went to a convention up in Green Bay two yr’s ago and I was talking with this lady that lives there and she INSISTED that Rodgers and Ted Thompson were gay lovers and that it was common knowledge there.

Everyone at the table laughed it off as a joke but she was totally serious.

I never put stock in it at all. Honestly I really don’t care but it jolted my memory when u mentioned his name.

    ======================================================

An off season list some one came up with maybe two off seasons ago. Basically who you thought was the Most Under appreciated Player or undervalued that would bounce back the next year. An injured Mcfadden wouldn’t count ‘cuz he wasn’t undervalued, he just didn’t produce. DHB’s and Schillins would count. Pretty fuzzy guidelines with some players eligibility decided by te blog collective. Or whoever was there during the discussion.
This year, for example, Mcfadden still probably wouldn’t be eligible(although a case could be made) and Brisiel probably would be. Taiwan Jones would be an interesting case if he became a corner and did well. Need the collective on that one.

Geno Smith lost six of his last eight games in college while putting up stats.

Palmer puts up stats like crazy and doesn’t win either.

Don’t see the point of drafting a QB at 3 when we have many more issues than QB currently (assuming we don’t cut Palmer).

Doubt it. Palmer was 4-13. That’s not any good so Reggie is gonna send his butt down the road. Pryor is the guy. Late round QB pick for #3 and some washed up has been will find his way here for our #2. But Reggie is going to build around Pryor.

Palmers W/L record as a Raider blows.

  • Chili Bean

DAs’ W/L record is brutal. But he’s a Reggie pick so expect him to stay.

Palmer overall as a Raider: 6-17. Not good. Especially considering half those 4K yards last season were garbage stats in garbage time.

Who’d ever thunk our 2012 defense coulda been worse than the 2011 defense?

But hey, lets give Tarver a little grab ass. He didn’t give up 99 yards back to back when the money was on the line. Of course, 2012 never had any money on the line.

Palmer is 6-17. The thought was promising but the W/L sucks.

  • Chili Bean

    http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/blog/eye-on-football/21948914/would-cardinals-be-interested-in-carson-palmer

I’m good with Pryor, but it really is to bad Reggie had to drag Palmer through Knapps mud when he coulda built a season around him. Reggie and DA botched the crap outta that one.

  • Chili Bean

    6-17 don’t cut it as a QB.

  • Chili Bean

I have no problem with Palmer and Reggies cap issues, whether or not Palmer restructures, don’t give a hoot about any of that. Cap cielings? BFD. What bothers me is the 6-17. And, Reggie ain’t doin squat to get Palmer any help. Reggie is gonna give the ball to Pryor and let him scramble for his life cause our O-line sucks big league balls.

  • Chili Bean

    Palmer 6-17
    Pryor 0-1

Not to tough a choice for Reggie, given the fact he ain’t done squat to get Palmer any O-line protection, WRs’, a dual threat back system, or anything else. The writing is on the wall.

  • Chili Bean

Raiders get 1 compensatory pick and the niners get three. Ravens get 4. Good job Reggie.
