Raiders sign veteran offensive tackle

The Raiders on Tuesday signed veteran offensive tackle Alex Barron, marking their first foray into bolstering the offensive side of the ball since the 2012 season ended.
Barron, 30, last played in the NFL in 2010, as a member of the Dallas Cowboys. He missed the 2011 season with a knee injury and failed to make it past training camp with the Seattle Seahawks in 2012.
Barron, 6-foot-7 and 320 pounds, has started 75 of the 87 games he appeared in during his seven-year NFL career. He is versatile enough to play on the left or right side of the offensive line.
The Raiders are setting up a conference call with Barron for noon. Once that has taken place, we will add some quotes from Barron on what he expects with the Raiders.

Hey Steve or Jerry – any confirmation on Tracy Porter visit? Any idea on asking price. Did Terrance Newman ever find his agent? CB is a major remaining hole to fill with this team.

Really the epitomy of lazy to just rehash something from Raiders.com regarding a retread OL that is unlikely to even make the roster. Please do not put up the telephone conference with him.

walker and sims signed 1 year deals at almost vet min……I doubt they picked raiders OVER anybody…if they did it was just for a year so they wouldnt get locked into a low salary and can get to the market again next year

If Arizona, the Bills or anyone else wants Palmer they will have to trade for him. McKenzie will not release Palmer before the NFL Draft. Carson will do one of three things. Retire, take a pay cut and stay or be traded to someone else. Any team waiting for the Raiders to cut Palmer will be waiting along time. The draft will be long over. Teams who need a QB won’t be able to wait for Palmer. They will be forced to draft one.”

thanks, i just think the scrutiny is in the wrnog place and i think reggie and dennis allen won’t let him go.

With their jobs on the line they just can’t.

If they do, they have balls the size of beach balls with just pryor and 0 back-ups in place.

two things that most every raider fan in here would agree on:

Tony Sparano and Olson improve run game in power scheme.

Defense will be better against the run with new front 7 additions.

and with that palmer will become a winner.

Palmer is 6-17 as Raider. He knows he’ll be 8-31 after this season cause Reggie and DA are dumping this team like rotten tomatoes. He needs out now while he still has stock value. Pryor much better suited to scramble out of a defective o line.

    Palmer 8-31
    Pryor 0-1

    ……………………..

Greatest ‘drafts’ ever fit the next ten years. And a lot of luck.
    Ravens get 4 comp picks
    Gayniners get 3.
Reggie gets one comp pick. C’mon man. Get busy. And send DA to a coaching clinic where proven winners can teach him a thing or two.

Man, what a disaster this would be. I’ll believe it when I see it, but I wouldn’t put it past McKenzie and his penny-pinching, get-my-own-guys ways.

Have to laugh at Raiders fans who can’t recognize Palmer is the best QB, by far, we’ve had since Gannon and one of the top 15 QBs in the league. Geno Smith would be a terrible reach pick and Pryor is a big-time gamble. Next year’s draft has a solid QB crop so maybe McKenzie’s plan is to see if Pryor can do something and if not we’ll just suffer a 2-14 type season and get Teddy Bridgewater or Manziel with the No. 1 pick next year.

Not a terrible long-term strategy, but this year is going to be ATROCIOUS if we just let Palmer walk and beyond that is a mystery.

    - 28th in scoring defense
    - 28th in rushing offense
    - Below average o-line and WR play
    - 8th ranked passing offense

And Raiders fans want to slam the QB.

    Incredible.”

John Gruden is an expert on quarterbacks he didn’t do very well in Tampa Bay

he kept drafting quarterbacks until he run is posterior out of their.

  • dr_robert

But u all need to stop and think objectively for a moment. Forget what u WANT to happen and think about what really is happening.

Reggie wants to rebuild the team with HIS GUYS.

    He brought in HIS COACH.

He currently has the #3 pick in the draft.

He has not had the chance to draft a difference maker yet.

It’s his very first 1st round pick as a GM.

He currently has an aging vet at qb with a large contract. And a passing-challenged project that he didn’t bring in.

It looks like he can draft the top qb in the draft. A guy a lot of people are buzzing about. A chance to draft HIS GUY and put a stamp on the franchise for the next decade.

Or he can draft a lineman who may or may not change the team.

    C’mon guys. It’s obvious what’s gonna happen.

    Like it or not.
