Raiders sign veteran offensive tackle

The Raiders on Tuesday signed veteran offensive tackle Alex Barron, marking their first foray into bolstering the offensive side of the ball since the 2012 season ended.
Barron, 30, last played in the NFL in 2010, as a member of the Dallas Cowboys. He missed the 2011 season with a knee injury and failed to make it past training camp with the Seattle Seahawks in 2012.
Barron, 6-foot-7 and 320 pounds, has started 75 of the 87 games he appeared in during his seven-year NFL career. He is versatile enough to play on the left or right side of the offensive line.
The Raiders are setting up a conference call with Barron for noon. Once that has taken place, we will add some quotes from Barron on what he expects with the Raiders.

It is even worse than that, only 4 winning sesons since the salary cap introduced in 94. The cap is what made AD ineffective. He never handled it well.

    ————————————–

Actually, free agency is what made him ineffective. 1989 on has mostly been a disaster.

Reggie is setting everything in place to get Zeke Ansah it’s coming clearer and clearer he wants a DE and while this kid can be said to not be as ready as maybe Werner or someone else his upside is ridiculous.

I’m not seeing Oline I think Reggie wants the best pass rusher in this draft.
    ********************************
I agree with DE but do you think Ansah is really better than Werner? I think he is defenitely in top 3 pass rushers in this draft though.

in 2008 the Green Bay Packer’s picked Matt Flynn at number seven .

He is now in Seattle the salary of 7.5 million

MATTF FLYNN a good quarterback’s . Reggie has set an enough draft rooms and know what to do

I tried many times to tell the know it alls in here that this team was not nearly as void of talent as it was being reported and Shane cosigned my concerns. I’m watching quality talent just walk out without so much as word. And everybody all the Reggieites yelling and cheering his name as if this guy is some genius. I’m thinking are these guys joking or serious?

Reggie allowed 2 very talented Olineman just walk, young kids. Then the HB and corner and WR doghoused RB and DB’s it was some of the stupidest decision making imaginable. Like who is this guy?

But all the Reggie worshippers just act like no prob. reggie will fix it………lol crazy!

Simple trade Palmer to Cardinals for a 2nd rd pick and a 2014 conditional 1st or 2nd if he passes for 3500+ yds =1st rd pick if not 2nd rd pick!

Second stay the hell away from geno smith ! Smith= JaWalrus !!! Seriously this idiot folds under pressure and big games! Also he cannot read defenses, very stupid qb! He is ALL HYPE!

Third either trade out of 3rd pick or simply draft top cb since we have nothing but garbage on roster!

Forth draft a qb prospect such as Tyler Wilson or Mike Glennon! These two qb’s have the upside!

By the way Mike Glennon five yrs from now under right coach will be the best qb of this yrs crop!

  • RaiderRockstar

It looks like T Newman, M Jenkins & T Porter all have other options …

If Reggie can manage to bag a pair of these guys, the secondary should be ok for a year, pending a patch to slap on the hole at free safety – which may result in just a cheap 1-year deal for Mike Huff since the Ravens have soured on him

  • realtruraider

I too can see Reggie takin Geno with the #3 pick, I have ben sayin it for a while that its obvious this new regime wants “their own” guys and they could be lookin at Geno as the center piece of this new rebuild. Palmer and Pryor are not his guys, but Pryor is young enough and talented enough he might have Reggie second guessing himself. I cannot wait for the draft.

Bryant has lawsuit pending, again a nice role player, paid pro-bowl money

    Shonasty, never healthy

Lechler is not a concern in our cap situation, he coming off career worst punts avg 39 yards, King will star tfor 480,000k

Hands down it aint close, Werner has a nice floor you know he will be a decent player at worse. But when it comes to just all out talent, it isn’t close. Werner is a base end ONLY. He is NOT an edge rusher supreme while Ansah can do both. His athleticism and strength are ridiculous the kid played everywhere on the Dline even zero technigue and was just damn near unblockable then he goes to the senior bowl and you’d think a kid as green as he is would be average at best. No this kid steals the show just dominates the top talent in this draft it was awesome. He still doesn’t know what he’s doing he does it with natural talent justw ait until he actually knows what he’s doing.

I saw us take a kid named Howie Long who was just as green but not nearly as athletic and how did that turn out?

I’m reserving judgement on Machete McKenzie.

But, for the true anti-McKenzies out there, this is the most troubling aspect for you peeps: Mark Davis keeps Reggie employed.

As long as Davis is fine with McKenzie, we all have to roll with it. No amount of typing on this site will change that.

There is no way the Cards trade anything more than just a 2nd for Palmer. Even that is likely too much.

We disagree on the way that Geno is bad. I see him more as Alex Smith bad.

The top CB is not good enough. Take the value and get a pass rusher or OL.

I’m fine using a later pick on a QB.

I’m not sure being the best QB of this years crop is going to be saying much.

Agree on DE but this is where I get off the bus. Who are the two Olinemen? Is one of them the the workout warrior we traded to Carolina? If one is Satale and then the move Wiz to center I am with you on that one but I think the other you are talking about is Barksdale and he is not that talented either.

Who are the CBs? DvD and Routt or CJ two of them are barely holding roster spots and the other can not even get on a team. I also have no idea where you get Tawain Jones as some sort of Chris Johnson or something.

I mean RM has made some mistakes but purging this roster of all its great talent is not one of them. Allowing Knapp hire and allowing the changing of the offense come to mind as mistakes, Brisell does not look like a good signing either. Keeping Seymour was not so great either. But I honestly do not get some of your takes at all.

Was reading a Forbes story about NFL owners and their net worth.

Mark Davis is rated in the bottom 5 in terms of net worth. He’s probably all good with the McKenzie frugal plan. For all we know, Davis could be the one saying don’t spend big.

Another interesting fact from the Forbes’ article, 17 teams are owned by billionaires. Seattle’s Paul Allen is the richest amongst the 32 owners.

I like Steven’s passion but if we dump Carson then what? Another year of suffering? I agree, I wish he would take a pay cut but come on. If you want to see a really cool SAA rant look up his discussion about Jamarcus Russell. Oh and then came the great Skip Bayless commentary about bringing in Vince Young as a mentor. If we do cut CP bringing in Vince Young might be our best option. I would say LOL but I do not even find that funny.

I’d say, on it’s face, this is the worst signing of the offseason (this team doesn’t need another penalty-machine on the offensive line). However, he’s just another camp body and probably won’t even make the 53-man roster. Nothing to write home to mom about and nothing to get bent out of shape about.

  • irjonny

There is at least one QB in this draft that will make it in the nfl. Even if pundits say its a weak class. Palmer isn’t going anywhere unless we get an offer or the QB we evaluate as that guy falls to us where we want him. If neither of those things happen I expect QB free agents and a Palmer cut after June 1st to spread out the cap hit unless he takes less money to start

  • 1960AutumnWind

Yea it is really a non-news item. The curious part is Raiders did an interview and fanfare for it. Also anoying that this site trumpets it as something significant. I mean did they go crazy like this when they signed Coye Francis? Coye has a better chance of making the team than this guy. They did not interview Barnes either and he is slated to start.

In fact, the best thing about this signing is that it gives a few people something to do:

    1. It gives a castoff NFL player a job, for the time being.
    2. It gives Corkran something to write about.
    3. And it gives us something to talk about.

    Other than that…………
