Raiders used seven draft picks on QBs since 2006

The Raiders have looked far and wide for a long-term solution at quarterback since Rich Gannon retired after the 2004 season. Here is a glance at seven draft picks used on quarterbacks since 2006:

2007 – The Raiders selected JaMarcus Russell with the No. 1 pick of the 2007 NFL draft. He was released after only three seasons and posted a 7-18 record as a starter.

2010 – The Raiders traded a 2012 fourth-round draft pick to the Washington Redskins for Jason Campbell. He enjoyed moderate success in his two seasons.

2011 – The Raiders used a 2012 third-round draft pick so that they could select Terrelle Pryor in the third round of the NFL supplemental draft. He has started one game so far.

2011 – The Raiders traded a 2012 first-round draft pick and a 2013 second-rounder to the Cincinnati Bengals for Carson Palmer. He posted an 8-16 record as the starter.

2013 – The Raiders traded a 2014 fifth-round draft pick and a 2015 conditional draft pick to the Seattle Seahawks for Matt Flynn, who has made only two starts in his five-year NFL career.

    You’re right Civ James Trapp. We should just fire Reggie and Dennis Allen RIGHT now and re-instate Huge Jackson as our GM/HC. I’m sure he’ll be able to get an awesome coaching staff in place and will be right up to speed on the draft and such since he’d been doing the same job for another team since he got canned.

    Oh wait…he’s been a clipboard holder for the team that uses Mel Kuiper Jr’s draft board literally? Special Team assist, NOT a Head Coach or GM at some level?!? How can this be???

    ————————————

    Hue was directly responsible for them acquiring TWO premium draft picks and all he got was the special teams job.

    Not much of an endorsement of his abilities.

  • SnBG

    what you should be doing is stop raving over players not on the Raiders and start rooting for both of our qb’s
    ;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
    Why should I root for Flynn. He’s a 7th rounder with a average arm when we could start Pryor and let the excitement begin. Flynn, yawn

  • JLofty

    If you are being compared to Mista and Debo on this blog, you have gone seriously wrong somewhere.

    And those you don’t question the flynn move, you are the one’s who are clueless.

    We are paying starter money to a backup. Thats what Flynn is, a backup. But because we don’t have any other option he will be the starter. If he’s not and Pryor beats him out, then Reggie is a f’ing idiot because we didn’t save sh*t in the salary cap by grabbing this guy.
    ———————

    maybe not this year, but next year we’re free and clear. If they’d have kept palmer we’d be dealing with this debacle again next year and even more dead money would be flushed down the crapper.

  • irjonny

    ======================================

    We increased it this year and cut it next year. Basically, we moved his money up a little.

    ======================================

    Well, there goes that competition angle RM and DA keep pushing. Flynn is getting paid like the starter. He would have to be horrendous to lose the starting job. Given RM’s proven pattern of being a penny pincher, he would NEVER pay a non starter that kind of money.

Reggie’s job is to keep the players he has and convince them to take less. Players should NEVER leave for less money. He either lets them walk, or can’t sell what he is trying to do. Second: DA’s winning percentage last year was .250. Hue’s winning percentage the last 5 games of 2011? .200.
    ————–

    so you count Hues last 5 but DA’S entire season. Hue SHOULD have been 12-4 DA SHOULD have been 3-13 they dont even compare and Hue faced much more adversity and thats non disputable but the spinmeisters keep spinning.

    =================================

    If Hue SHOULD have been 12-4…why wasn’t he?
    ————–

    Simple, the D. I know you remember those Buff,Den,Det,SD games the D cost us all 4. Now do the math 8-8+ 4 in the win column and -4 in the lost column and you get 12-4 its really that simple I know you will spin this fact in your favor but it is what it is.

    Noone answered how many new players will be on our roster. Im thinking like 40new plauers. I also thought palmers contract would have went on 3 yrs. so flynn def. Helps there. I
    I dont think the flynn signing says much more than palmers was not gonna be here, we needed a qp and flynn was the best option at a reasonable price. I really dont think they will be able to play favorites if they both get playing time. So I am happy knowing we go into next season, knowing rm is doing whats best fofor the present and future
