Trade for Flynn being consummated; Palmer on way out

By Steve Corkran
Monday, April 1st, 2013 at 8:45 am in Oakland Raiders.

The Raiders and Seattle Seahawks agreed on the parameters of a trade that will send quarterback Matt Flynn to the Raiders in exchange for two future draft picks, according to a report Monday morning.
Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer said the deal will be consummated some time this morning, with the Raiders acquiring Flynn for late-round draft picks in 2014 and ’15.
The Raiders also are working on a trade that will send quarterback Carson Palmer to the Arizona Cardinals.
Palmer came to the Raiders in 2011 via trade with the Cincinnati Bengals. That trade was engineered by former coach Hue Jackson, to the tune of a first-round draft pick in 2012 and a second-rounder in this month’s draft.
Flynn will compete for the starting job along with second-year player Terrelle Pryor and whichever other quarterback the Raiders add this offseason.
Flynn, 6-foot-2 and 225 pounds, burst onto the scene when he passed for 480 yards and six touchdowns in the Packers regular-season finale against the Detroit Lions on Jan. 1, 2012. He passed for 251 yards and three touchdowns in his only other start, in 2010 against the New England Patriots.
Last season, Flynn appeared in three games for the Seahawks. He completed 5 of 9 passes for 68 yards and no touchdowns in those games.
Flynn has two years remaining on the three-year, $19.5 million contract — $10 million of it was guaranteed — he signed last offseason.

“and our record since 02 with Mr Davis is what?”

That had absolutely NOTHING to do with what I was talking about. How you twisted it to be about that is beyond me but Stop twisting my post little brained man.

I was talking about his ability to sell FA on coming here. Not how effective players are or our win loss record or was it the right way to build a club or the million other things it could have been about.

Next time shut it and don’t interrupt.

Raiders give the #3 and palmer

AZ gives the #7, their 2nd, and 5th.

We still get Milner at #7 and hopefully Woods in the 2nd.

    ^^^^^^^^^
That would be a decent trade actually. Rather see the Raiders get AZ 4th rounder instead of their 5th though.

AZ can get their Tackle in Joekel or Fisher at #3. Raiders get more picks and can take whoever falls to them at #7 between the pass rushers Jordan or Ansah or DT’s Star or Floyd, or CB Millner. They can even look at dynamo WR/PR Tavon Austin or anotehr trade down from that #7 spot.

Former Raider getting paid peanuts from pft

Per a source with knowledge of the terms, Huff’s three-year, $6 million contract carries a cap number of $1.35 million this year.

Huff received a $1.5 million signing bonus, and he’ll earn base salaries of $850,000, $1.75 million, and $1.9 million in each of the next three seasons. Escalators could expand the base deal in 2014 and 2015.

Of course, if the salary escalates too high, the Ravens could decide to move on. For now, they’ll move forward with a former top-10 pick under a contract that, relatively speaking, pays peanuts.
    +++++++++++++++++++++++++

Huff is willing to take anything to ensure he doesn’t have to come back and play for the worst fans in football.

I hope Mark sells the team and they move to LA. Playing for fans who at worst will be indifferent and not villify the players who are bustin their butts out there.

You want the Raiders to stay cuz they’re your fun little toy but u don’t wanna invest anything in them. You think Raiders owe u something so they should stay regardless if you guys don’t even sell out the stadium.

You say the Raiders “deserve” to not have sell outs; well you guys don’t “deserve” a pro football franchise with that attitude and “deserve” to be schytt on by Mark Davis.

The whole team should flip a collective bird at all you over critical fakers and let u root for the niners, which is what 90% of you do anyway.

dumping palmer is essential, and must be done post haste

The sooner we ditch that loser the better off this team will be.

We now have two guys that are hungry to prove their worth.

They will essentially be on one year try outs. If they flop, we draft bridgewater or boyd next season.

My money says that pryor is going to eventually take the starting gig this year and the raiders never look back.

pryor already has the advantage if you think about it.

Flynn has to get here and learn the guys, pryor has been working with them all off season already, and the locker room is behind him.- advantage tp6

Flynn doesnt have a vertical arm, pryor is built to throw the long ball. Are wr group is built to run down filed. -advantage tp6

the o line isnt a power house, and flynn is a statue. he is best when he gets the ball out fast in a dink and dunk offense. pryor can extend plays and he and the wr group already have a feel for how to improvise together . – advantage tp 6

Flynn is expected by most to win the job, nothing is expected of pryor by most outside of alameda and few knowledgeable fans here. There is no pressure on pryor.

    advantage tp 6

This looks more and more like a an opportunity for pryor this season, and I for one cant wait

    Romo deal controversy is telling

The Cowboys signed quarterback Tony Romo to a shockingly controversial contract extension Friday. The shock is that it is controversial. The inalienable truth about the NFL is it is always about the franchise quarterback. If you have one, you overpay him. If you think you have one or the possibility of one, you pay him. If you don’t have one, you are constantly scrambling. This most resembles 1:30 a.m. at the bar. Last call is long gone. The lights are about to come on and your friends already left. This is how Buffalo ends up signing Kevin Kolb, a failed bit in both Philly and Phoenix. And this is why Cowboys owner Jerry Jones recommitted to Romo even as many screamed he could do better. Soon after details of what is now a seven-year, $119.5 million contract for Romo emerged, none other than Donovan McNabb took to Twitter to vent his spleen. “@donovanjmcnabb: Tony Romo 6 yr 55 million dollar extension. Wow really, with one playoff win. You got to be kidding me” The 55 mil referenced is guaranteed money; second only to Tom Brady in size and more than Super Bowl MVP Joe Flacco just pulled down in Baltimore. This feels rich coming from McNabb, winner of exactly zero rings and losing QB in Romo’s lone playoff W. The man also has a point — quarterbacks (himself included) often get paid out of fear and desperation, hope and belief. It is a scary world without a franchise quarterback. Or it has been. The thing is the franchise quarterback might be dying, or is dying if Colin Kaepernick and his read-option brethren have anything to do with it. Yes, expect to be pistol-whipped by copycats next season. The read-option quarterback is the new hot thing. What they are not is the next generation of Brady, Manning, Brees. They either will be a fad, or kill the idea of the franchise quarterback altogether. And this is not just my opinion, this is exactly what Saints coach Sean Payton intimated when we talked at the NFL owners meetings. For the read-option style of quarterbacking to take over, the idea of the franchise quarterback has to die. “I think (injury attrition) is the question,” Payton said when asked about the longterm viability of the read-option in the NFL. “If the offense continues with the curve and success it has had, you may see a team with that style with one or two quarterbacks.” If this sounds crazy or impossible, remember there used to be a time in the NFL where teams believed they had to have a franchise running back. This is how the Cowboys (OK, mainly Jimmy Johnson) got the Vikings to give them all of those picks for Herschel Walker. What has happened in the ensuing 20 years is a devaluation of the position that is almost complete. The position is no longer viewed as it once was. You can win without a great one. You can overpay for it. You crave depth more than anything. And all of this is because injury is so prevalent there. The best guy going at the position, Adrian Peterson, is proof of why there are franchise quarterbacks and running back by committee. It is damn near impossible to stay healthy there. They take too many hits, and in an increasingly faster game, played by increasingly bigger and stronger men, this is death. This is also the reality of guys like Kaepernick and Cam Newton and Russell Wilson, to name a few. The challenge is twofold: How to keep them upright? And how to replace them when they aren’t? “The challenge is long-term quarterback health because he is not technically a ball carrier,” Payton said. “I get all of that. But you see running plays with holes as big as this table that are not there when you are playing a conventional under-center attack. I don’t think it’s going away.” It’s not. And if not, what is is the franchise quarterback. You will need two in that world, and in that world Romo never gets that deal.

    @@@@@@@@@@@

Think I’ll go with Sean Payton on this one.
