Trade for Flynn being consummated; Palmer on way out

The Raiders and Seattle Seahawks agreed on the parameters of a trade that will send quarterback Matt Flynn to the Raiders in exchange for two future draft picks, according to a report Monday morning.
Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer said the deal will be consummated some time this morning, with the Raiders acquiring Flynn for late-round draft picks in 2014 and ’15.
The Raiders also are working on a trade that will send quarterback Carson Palmer to the Arizona Cardinals.
Palmer came to the Raiders in 2011 via trade with the Cincinnati Bengals. That trade was engineered by former coach Hue Jackson, to the tune of a first-round draft pick in 2012 and a second-rounder in this month’s draft.
Flynn will compete for the starting job along with second-year player Terrelle Pryor and whichever other quarterback the Raiders add this offseason.
Flynn, 6-foot-2 and 225 pounds, burst onto the scene when he passed for 480 yards and six touchdowns in the Packers regular-season finale against the Detroit Lions on Jan. 1, 2012. He passed for 251 yards and three touchdowns in his only other start, in 2010 against the New England Patriots.
Last season, Flynn appeared in three games for the Seahawks. He completed 5 of 9 passes for 68 yards and no touchdowns in those games.
Flynn has two years remaining on the three-year, $19.5 million contract — $10 million of it was guaranteed — he signed last offseason.

I’m very pleased we didn’t lose any of our picks this year. I wasn’t too concerned in the first place considering how much we here about Reggie loving his draft picks.

Hopefully it’s truly an open competition in camp, so at least we know we got the best out there. (Whether its good or not)

“You think Raiders owe u something…”

    BADA-BING, BADA-BOOM!

Exactly. Team is going to make the moves it feels are right no matter what we fans think.

We as fans have to either roll with it, or, stop being fans.

The Raiders could move to England and I’d still be a Raider fan.

I’ve been through too many ups and downs to give up now. Might as well keep on rolling.

The most recent decade of losing (8-8) is mediocre and not a winner hasn’t lessened my love for the Raiders.

Some of the posters here dont have a clue.

Palmer is still a productive QB numnuts. If he goes to a good system, he will win.

Give him a good offensive coordinator, a good OL. last year the raider O was one dimensional because of the Krapp Offense…

Bunch of numnuts in this blog.

Good luck to Carson in Arizona. Bruce Arians and Fitz should be good for him and his career and help disguise his weaknesses I think it says a lot about what Carson thinks of DA and/or Reggie by pretty much forcing his way outta here. Huff and DHB also turned down pay cuts here to earn less on the market

Its not about one single move you really need to expand your brain or your thought process to allow for open minded thinking.

Yet, he was constantly antagonized by the fanbase.
    ======================================================

I didn’t see very much of that anywhere but here. There are those that wanted to see what Pryor might have and saw Palmer as an impediment to that, but nothing as vitriolic and incessant as the Anti Palmer Looney Brigade that was vastly over represented here by the sheer volume of their posts.

    Palmer + Pryor + 2 draft picks is > Flynn + pryor

    “build through the draft”
    “its a rebuild”

Reggie what are you doing, you are paying more for a QB with 2 starts versus a qb who threw for 4000 yards last year

    ========

can’t use that logic on the Reggime knee pad gang.

    ********************************************************

You can’t use that logic on anyone, even those dumb enough to take it at face value. Carson Palmer cost us a first and a second round pick, and several million dollars. Reggie realized he was the only viable option he had at QB this year and wanted him to stay, that much is obvious. If he didn’t he wouldn’t have offered him 10 million. If Palmer didn’t want to be in Oakland anymore, McKenzie had to move on.

Matt Flynn is costing us two late-round picks and his salary for the next two years at least is less than half of what Palmer’s would have been over the same period.

How in the world does that equate to paying more for Flynn than for Palmer?

And for those of you questioning the trade itself, please provide a recommendation for the QB we would have drafted in the fifth round this year that is better than Matt Flynn.

  • dr_robert

Well at least the daily Palmer/Pryor nonsense is over. Palmer will go kill it for another team and prove yet again he’s a good qb on a bad team.

And we can all get behind our new qb.

Wait. What? Some of u already hate Flynn?

That’s interesting. He’s not a “quitter” or a “loser” and has never thown an interception for the raiders or “lost”.

And for some reason, many of u already want him gone.

    What color is he?

Something to think about with a little extra cap money:
    From PFF:
“Safeties: Kerry Rhodes (+16.0) and Quintin Mikell (+15.3)

Despite being our fourth-highest-graded safety in 2012, Rhodes was cast aside during the Cardinals’ secondary makeover. He particularly shined in coverage, where he notched six passes defensed and allowed just a 64.5 quarterback rating on throws into his coverage. Mikell may no longer be the reliable cover safety that made him our top-graded safety in 2008 and 2010, but he can certainly help a team looking for a thumper to play in the box. His 14 quarterback pressures in 2012 were tied for most among all safeties, and his 21 run stops (when lined up within eight yards of the line of scrimmage) were second-most. Honorable Mentions: Charles Woodson, Ronde Barber, Jim Leonhard

Also depending on how/if Flynn restrucured can look at CB’s and how about John Abraham at DE?

  • dr_robert

This just in: Pryor completed an amazing 14 passes in week 17 for 150 yards! That’s right. For the ENTIRE game.

And this is the guy u think is a “winner” and ur mad we brought in the guy who passed for 600 yards and 6 Tds in one game.

I think its more important than ever now for Reggie to firm up the o-line now that we for sure have an inexperienced QB taking snaps. If we trade down and pick o-line, or simply pick one at #3 is fine by me. But Flynn is going to need more time than we gave Carson.

Wrong yourself. Cap is not that simple. Palmer costs 15.3 million against cap. With trade he will cost us 9.3 million in dead money. We save 6 million but pay 5.25 million to Flynn = 775k. Flynn probably restructured though so there may be more savings than this. We do not know that part yet.
