Oakland could potentially look at safety Usama Young. He was cut by Cleveland. Oakland coach Dennis Allen was his position coach in New Orleans.

    ***

Raider O played under DA with Saints?

no wonder he’s always calling Dennis names like “titty monkey” or whatever. I think Dennis was probably pretty hard on him, made him do extra work after catching O smoking trees after practice. Plus when DA left and took that promotion in Denver the Saints secondary went in the crapper and he landed in lowly Cleveland. Now Dennis is a Head Coach and Raider O is a free agent on the street looking for work

    @ Raider O

for a guy who claims to be religious, you need to learn a thing or two about forgiveness. Come to Oakland and makes amends with DA. His boy Jason Tarver can take your game to the next level

Perhaps Raider Alex has not been paying attention the last ten years.

9-51 against playoff teams losing by an average score of 30-13.

What do you want Reggie to do, keep these same buffoons on the roster and pay them big money?
Too many on this blog keep thinking we are one OC or DC away form the playoffs.
Wake up!!!!! Our players were really, really bad!!!!!!
Regular season over the last ten years UNDER SEVEN DIFFERENT COACHING STAFFS; 49-111.

Clean the mess up and get rid of poor performing players.

    *****

thanks for the wake up call Charlie. You hit the nail on the head. We are a minor league team right now, and it seems Reggie’s mission all along was to gut the whole thing till the blood ran dry. He’s filling up the roster back with a bunch of one-year blue light special deals and castoffs.

This team is really going to be bad, I fear. And all the pundits who are publically lauding Reggie now are going to be crucifying him in November.

  • guest123

Last “outta wack” contract standing is Slolando Mclain. Reggie could go all in and trade DMAC for draft picks and Matt Flynn and Jano would be the last big money guys standing.

Why not cut Slo already? We need to mark the rock bottom point. No way to gage how far we will go until we identify just how far we fell.

  • Just Fire Baby

What do yall think about picking up Kenny Stills from University Of Oklahoma???

    *****************************

Would love to, but we don’t have a slot to pick him in.

IMO, he goes in the 25-45 range in the draft.

Could be the most polished WR in the draft. Between him and Woods.

  • Just Fire Baby

The Raiders are going to humiliate Slo even more then the green beanie, by using him to trade up like 4 picks in the 7th round and then drafting a punter.

  • nycraider

in 8 days hue jackson traded for aaron curry and cp3. he gave away 4 draft picks and called his cp3 the greatest in history.
18 months latter both players are gone and cp3 had to be given away. the cp3 trade is the worst in Raider history.

  • Violent Hands

I dont mind which QB wins this competition, either one is better than that tin-hearted interception-machine called Palmer,he had no balls for a fight even with TP ,so happy the organisation did this deal,we need players that have balls heart and fight.not 3 and out players.cant thank Reggie enough for seeing through that mercenary Palmer i could not take another season of watching him,so happy

Would be nice to trade back a few slots giving up the slots for ‘free’ to get the rights to “Mr Irrelevant” of this year’s draft. Just give him away and make it symbolic.

  • Just Fire Baby

I ragged on DHB over the years, but I am going to miss him I think.

It was like being a parent or something everytime he jump-caught a first down.

Great in YAC situations……but so difficult to get TO those situations with his bizarre tendency to want to cradle catches in his bread basket instead of using his hands.

Be safe out there DHB…..on the field and on the highways.

Guys, seriously, have you seen all the Flynn highlights? Go look at them from his days in GB to last year in Sea. There isn’t much, but what’s there can show you what to expect. At least from the things that are consistent through out.

    He gets sacked a lot.

    —————————————-

Highlights from his two career starts? Did you watch the Pats game? I posted the youtube link above that shows every single passing play from that game.

The blocking was terrible. The Pats front four brought it every play, and the pocket collapsed immediately every time. I honestly don’t know how Green Bay was even a competitive team (much less a Super Bowl winner) that year with that poor OL.

But of course, they’re bad every year. Look at how often Rodgers gets sacked. You gotta be a tough QB behind that line.

  • Myopinion

Our defense was already pitiful, iyts not like were revamping the ravensall time great s.b. Team. Our team was in need of a whole new cast. I find it refreshin, were a team full of underdogs, guys with something to prove. imagine every player going at it withthe intensity of wheeler.
In my opinion , pryor has that intangible, seemed everyplayer had a little more edge. To me hes a player that just adds that warrior mentality, makes every player step it up a bit. Something u cant measure on practice field.
Biggest dissapointment last year to me,didnt seem anyone really carwd, and I think that directly relates to cp3 lay back attitude

    ——————————-

Never questioned his commitment. He worked hard. He was just never going to live up to his high draft pick. You have to be an immediate impact player – a receiver taken that high must be a #1 receiver.

  • RaidingTexas

    Nycraider Says:

    —————————————–

Depends on how you define “worst”. That trade to Tampa Bay back in 2002 also hurt in a really bad way.

  • RaidingTexas

DIRT, if you mean just the Raiders QB activity, I would say they aren’t picking him – assuming he even fell to them. QB is not their biggest need right now.

I think Jax may still take him.

  • RaiderRockstar

    @G123

After the Flynn & Palmer deals finalized yesterday we had $7.1 million in cap space

then we signed TPorter for 2.5 mil

according to my Podunk math we now have $4.6 mil in cap space & ROMAC is a 6 mil cap hit

in short, he hasn’t been cut yet because we can’t afford to cut him!

I think he might be a Raider this year and just be inactive every game

Our only other options to save cap space are to adjust the contracts of DMAC & Seabass – be it restructure, cut or trade

Matt Flynn in preseason last year threw a ball about 54 yards on a rope (the TO dropped TD), without maxing out as far as windup and stepping into it. It was pretty effortless.

He can easily throw the ball 60+ yards if need be.

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    That right?
Jamarcus could do that too. That’s why Al wanted him.
And Flynn was Russell’s back-up at LSU.
We’re getting the guy who was Russell’s back-up.

    ********************************************************

Yep, and that guy won a National Championship for LSU, which the two guys that were supposedly better than he was weren’t able to do.

He’s also still in the NFL, and will most likely be one of only 32 players in the world to be a starting quarterback there. The other two aren’t even in the league.

The Jamarcus Russell bidding war could start at any moment though, so that could change.

  • guest123

    @ RRS,

    thanks for the explanation.

Make Slo wear the green beanie all year then!

  • SilverNBlackPA

RoMac for the Mr. Irrelevant pick. I freakin’ love it, Guest123. I hope this happens.

  • Just Fire Baby

If Al could have lasted just a few more weeks, Campbell would have got hurt and Al would have insisted on playing Pryor and letting the trade deadline pass.

And I bet we would be no worse than picking 3rd overall two years later.

    LMAO. Love it.

Must be Reggie’s number for CB’s. Heard that’s all that Terrance Newman got in Cincy was 2.5 mil.

I don’t believe for one second Newman’s claim that Reggie offered more.

We had no choice to do what Reggie is doing.

The root of the problem is a decade of horrible drafts.

It has been proven time and time again that the core of any winning team must come through the draft.

FA’s can be used to acquire some niche pieces but that is it.
The Raiders were doomed by bad drafts.
The problem was compounded by overpaying for bad players and then blaming coaches for bad results.

There is a greater chance of him starting at ILB then of that happening.

Slo-Mania has come to a grinding halt, so his best bet would be kissing The Reggie’s pinky-ring right now and talking about a “minor pay-cut” and a new slate to work with.

  • Charlie

Not sure if you saw my post yesterday about the minimum spend against the cap. I believe it is an 88.8% rule but it applies over four year periods, not just one season.
As a result Reggie is getting our payroll to where it should be given our talent for 2013.
Clean up the NFL record dead money that at my unofficial count is about $41 million.

That will allow us to build this “the right way” and keep good players at fair market pricing in 2014.

There is simply no quick one year fix given the ridiculous player friendly contracts awarded to poor performers like Routt, Wimbley, Seymour etc.

  • SilverNBlackPA

Someone asked Vic Tafur why McClain hasn’t been cut yet and he answered “Same reason he was the scout team running back last season.”

He’s being made a clear example and I love it.

    @JFB

you think #55 would restructure for Reggie & Dennis?

Browns release Chris Gocong, Usama Young

Posted by Mike Wilkening on April 2, 2013, 4:34 PM EDT

    AP
The Browns have released linebacker Chris Gocong and safety Usama Young, defensive regulars in Pat Shurmur’s tenure as head coach. Cleveland announced the moves Tuesday afternoon….

Young, 27, started 11 games a season ago for Cleveland, with the bulk of those starts at free safety. He was a 2011 free-agent addition for the Browns.

    ****************************
Should we bring this guy in for a look?
    ——————
Yes. Usama is a good, young player and will be inexpensive. We need as much DB help as possible right about now.

5′11, 195, 4.4 speed. Played solid in his starts last season. Young would be a nice pickup.

    ————————————————————————————————————–

Young was drafted by the Saints and spent 3 or 4 years there under Allen as his position Coach. Might be in play for us.

  • Charlie

McClain’s situation has a lot to do with his contract.
Very confident he is gone. Simply a timing issue to minimize cap damage.

There are two major exceptions to this general rule. With players released or traded after June 1, only the current year’s proration counts towards the cap while the proration from the remaining contract years doesn’t accelerate until the next year. A team can also release two players each year prior to June 1st that will be treated under the cap as if they were released after June 1. This is commonly referred to as a post-June 1 designation.

  • edward teach

I don’t know if Flynn is going to come in here and save the day. He hasn’t played a whole lot, in college or in the pros. What I do know is that every time he’s had the chance to play he’s played very well. He won a NC at LSU and he certainly showed that he belonged on the field when given a shot at the next level.

I just don’t understand downgrading the guy before he’s even played a down for the Raiders, I just don’t. Nothing he’s done on the field warrants that.
