Live blog: Inside the Oakland Raiders, Wednesday at 2 p.m.

NFL writer Steve Corkran will take questions and provide insight on the trade for quarterback Matt Flynn and the Raiders’ other offseason moves.

Flynn’s introduction was about as informal as it gets, a man alone, standing onstage, surrounded by a dozen reporters and a bank of cameras in the team auditorium. There was no sign of the grand exhibitions of past glory – the polished Raiders helmet, the massive black table, maybe even a football – so often associated with news conferences presided over by late owner Al Davis.

Neither McKenzie nor Allen was present, so the 6-foot-2, 225-pound Flynn flew solo.

Monte Poole is a funny guy

  • ron69

Reggie should take a good look to fs Kerry Rhodes and grab an stud TE in the 3rd round, Flynn would apreciate that.

Dion Jordan is the player I wanna trade down and draft

    ——————————————————-
No need to trade down for Jordan. We could get him with the pick we just got for Palmer.

All jokes aside, Jordan is that Goldston bust from Ohio State that was picked by Jets after DMAC.

  • RaiderRockstar

    @Charlie

yeah – we can designate McClain a post June 1st cut and reduce his cap hit to $3.3 this year and the same amount next year

question is .. can we sign all our draft picks and a few more vets with our remaining $1.3 mil in cap space ??

    me thinks not!

  • SilverNBlackPA

    Dion Jordan = Jarvis Moss

  • Plunketthead

    Amen Charlie

Its all about those books being brought into the 21st century. Now Reggie can build the next great Raiders team.

I plunkdict Reggie will be every bit as good as Ozzie is at GMin.

    And the best part

Reggie is a Raider, a real honest to goodness Raider

  • RaiderRockstar

Are we really willing to cut Seabass or DMAC just to have the cap money in order to cut McClain, too?

makes more sense to just let the turd rot away on the bench until next year when we’re swimming in cap space

  • Plunketthead

He’s being made a clear example and I love it.

Dion Jordan is a mortal Top 5 lock but then senile Gil Brandt says that Jarvis Jones isn’t even a 1st round talent.

    WTF do these people watch?

    Plunketthead

Agreed. Many on this blog do not realize that we had the worst cap situation in the history of the NFL in the cap era in 2012.

It is not just the value of the contracts given to bad players but also the NATURE of the contracts.
That is how Mr. Davis “lured” FA to Oakland the last ten years. He gave contracts no one else in the NFL would even consider-to really bad players.

    EXAMPLE:

Most NFL contract guarantees contain language which allows a club to reduce the amount they owe a released player by the amount of his new deal with another club (an “offset”). Since Routt’s contract doesn’t have this language, he has been getting paid this year from both the Raiders and the Chiefs. Routt counts $10,785,334 in dead money on Oakland’s cap. Without the restructuring, his dead money would only be $3,333,334. Routt made $15 million for the one season he played under this deal.

  • RaiderRockstar

Look, you gotta have like 8 inactive players each week during every game of the reg season..

McClain will be one of them. He’ll get to showcase his “talents” in the 3rd & 4th quarter of preaseason games and if a team loses a starter and finds interest in Slo i’m sure we’ll be willing to trade him and #55 will more than likely accept a reduced contract with new team loaded with incentives and no guaranteed $$$

  • Plunketthead

    Charlie Says:

McClain’s situation has a lot to do with his contract.
    &&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

And a lot more to do with him going gangsta on DA on the practice field.

Can Jordan handle the point of attack at DE?
    *****************************

He is 6′7 248…..certainly we can get him to the 260-265 range right to handle that? Still the main things from a RDE is his blind side rushing ability

    ==============

He’s a DAWG that LOVES to eat……..Don’t put him on a chain by making him drop into to coverage constantly. Turn him loose, and watch QB’s start pissin’ their pants and getting happy feet.

    ——————————————————-

Yeah I’m sure he had those Pac 12 QBs pissin their pants too. What was it? 5 sacks? NFL Left or Right Tackles will take one look at this guy and immediately go help the Guard and Center deal with the DT.

Mingo and Jordan are both all hat, no cattle as far as I’m concerned. Soft as Charmin on tape.

Both need to play in a 3-4 to have any hope of success. Mingo also needs a coach that will light a fire under his azz. Might be a good choice for the Colts and Chuck Pagano.

if Dennis is fighting Rolando, I got my money on Dennis

sorry guys. “gangsters” are all talk. they use weapons

DA is only 40 and he’s in shape. a former football player and Texas A&M alum (where they dont take crap from anybody)

You don’t pick a fight with a little guy who doesn’t talk that much. Usually the guy with the big mouth is the one who gets knocked on his can after the first punch

  • RaiderFredinDallas

Sharrif FLoyd at number 3 if no trade down available.

  • SilverNBlackPA

    Plunketthead,

    I don’t get it.

The big knock on Jones that I have based on what I saw is he can have trouble shedding blocks and seems to wear down as the game goes on.

Get his azz on a cardio program and give him some coaching and there’s no reason he shouldn’t be a monster.

Perhaps Raider Alex has not been paying attention the last ten years.

9-51 against playoff teams losing by an average score of 30-13.

What do you want Reggie to do, keep these same buffoons on the roster and pay them big money?
Too many on this blog keep thinking we are one OC or DC away form the playoffs.
Wake up!!!!! Our players were really, really bad!!!!!!
Regular season over the last ten years UNDER SEVEN DIFFERENT COACHING STAFFS; 49-111.

Clean the mess up and get rid of poor performing players.

    >>

If the players were really that horrible, Hue should have been coach of the year when he got us one defensive stop from the playoffs, huh?

The team should have been 0-16.

  • RaiderFredinDallas

Move on from Hue and the last ten years. New Regime. New plan.

  • guest123

    lol Rockstar,

Rolando has to have Dennis by 45 or 50 lbs. He’d tear him a new one if there weren’t security or players to peel him off. Dennis would literally cry to like a kindergartner get shoved in the sandbox.

  • RaiderRockstar

    hey Gdog,

    whats up buddy?

now that Palmer is gone – what can we talk about?

Ty Branch being trash or PFF being a worthless website?

how the Raiders should re-sign both Higgins & Morrison?

  • guest123

    ^^^^^^

or Star. toss a coin and I’m fine with either.

  • Charlie

    Fred

Perhaps not if we have already used our two June 1 desigantions.
I know we used one of them on Huff. Not sure if we have one left. If not, McClain will be on the team till 6/1 to minimize cap damage.
    See my 1349 post.

I know we are already at a dead money NFL record. If we cut McClain now you can add $7 million to my current estimate of $41 million.

Bad situation all the way around.

  • Gdog

I am done debating what player the Raiders are picking with their top ten pick because I think Reggie will approach the draft the same way he approached free agency… with ultra caution, cheapness, and a premium for under-achievers.

I wouldn’t be surprised if we don’t even end up with a first round pick… Reggie will keep trading down. Those first rounders want MONEY ya know!!

  • guest123

Once he’s cut, who will we have to pick on?

I wonder if PFF does metrics on college players? Cuz you know he’ll trade down and trade down again until he gets at least a dozen draft picks with all negative numbers on the PFF rating scale.

    See my 1361 post.

You do not seem to understand that we had players that could not compete against good teams.
They were average players getting paid like All Pros!!!

Cable got fired because 8-8 was not good enough given Mr Davis payed an NFL record salary (see below) for that team.
Hue made the probelm worse with the Palmer deal.

“In 2010, Al Davis went all out for his football team in an uncapped year and spent the most money in the league at over $150 million in player salaries. THAT IS EASILY THE MOST MONEY EVER SPENT ON A TEAM IN THE HISTORY OF THE NFL. One thing we know for sure is that Al Davis made his own bed here and whether that is good or bad, he must lie in it. At the other end of the spectrum are the Bengals, who have only $83.5 million in commitments for 2012. The Buccaneers, Titans, Redskins, and Broncos also are under $100 million.”

Rockstar you usually make good sense on your posts but you’re way off on this one. Although I would be pulling for the DA knockout, saying he is in shape and can do it is like 12 year vets still getting credit for the 40 time they ran at their rookie combine. DA has Tits. McClain would probably yank on them and send Dennis crying to Reggie.
