Update: Raiders waive McClain

The Raiders will waive middle linebacker Rolando McClain Friday, according to an ESPN report.

UPDATE: The Raiders confirmed they have waived McClain.

McClain’s departure was a foregone conclusion ever since his two-game suspension last season for conduct detrimental to the team after he got into an exchange with coach Dennis Allen after being informed Omar Gaither would be the starting linebacker.

There was no immediate confirmation from the Raiders on the transaction.

Earlier in the season, McClain was removed from the field in the nickel defense, with rookie Miles Burris taking his place.

The Butkus Award winner from national champion Alabama never became the playmaker or defensive presence the Raideres had hoped after making him the No. 8 overall pick in the NFL draft.

While often invisible on the field, McClain made headlines for the wrong reasons off the field, most notably an in-season arrest in 2011 on charges that he allegedly fired a gun near the head of an acquaintance following an argument.

Misdemeanor charges of third-degree assault, reckless endangerment, menacing and illegal discharge of a firearm within the city limits of his hometown of Decatur, Ala., were eventually dropped when the victim in the case declined to assist in prosecution.

Most recently, McClain was arrested for failing to citation after being pulled over for illegal window tint.

The Raiders signed three linebackers during the free agent period, Kaluka Maiava, Nick Roach and Kevin Burnett. Roach is the likely starting middle linebacker if the Raiders retain a 4-3 defense.

Mcfly–interesting that u seem to want to protect missdick. Well, maybe pretty obvious.

I have fun being a know-it-all but in reality, I might be the only one here who not only played and studied the game at a great program, but also have designed an implemented successful schemes and taught those schemes to numerous players. Every position. Ground up. Put people in position based on strengths and weaknesses. Evaluated players and used those evaluations to win games.

I can tell u the responsibilities of every player on the field. And it will make sense.

I guarantee people like missdick never played. Certainly not past pop Warner.

They are Internet/Wikipedia football gurus who would be laughed out of any realt football meeting. And I’ve been in those meetings. And u haven’t.

Football is a great game and its awesome that everyone can sit on their couch and debate and discuss. It’s fun.

But when u dont know anything and a person with actual knowledge tries to enlighten u, it would be intelligent to listen.

There’s a reason why my opinions match so many professionals. I know what I’m talking about.

Some of u get it and that’s cool. Voices of intelligence.

But some of u are Squealing Rodents of Illogical Moronicness (SRIM’s) (c).

Raiders agreed to terms with CB Mike Jenkins, formerly of the Cowboys, on a one-year contract.
Jenkins, 28, was the 25th pick in the 2008 draft. He made the Pro Bowl in 2009 and his career has been spiraling downward ever since. Beset by shoulder injuries in 2011, Jenkins was demoted to dime back in Dallas last year, behind Mo Claiborne, Brandon Carr, and Orlando Scandrick. Pro Football Focus graded Jenkins as the 94th “best” cornerback out of 113 qualifiers. He’s now projected to start opposite fellow frequent burn victim Tracy Porter in Oakland

Maybe it’s just wishful thinking, but it’s looking more and more like we’ve GOTTA be targeting an edge rusher with our first pick. Preferably Dion Jordan or Ansah. Just basing that on the premise that most other positions of need are being at least somewhat shored-up in free agency.

and we have a winner. or at least a guy who understands what he’s seeing.

it all becomes so clear when the blinders are off.
