Raiders sign free safety Young

UPDATE: The Raiders have confirmed the signing of defensive end Andre Carter.

The Raiders finally got around to signing a safety Tuesday, announcing the signing of Usama Young about five hours after closing a deal with cornerback Mike Jenkins.

Young, who started 11 games for the Cleveland Browns last season and had three interceptions, becomes the prime candidate to start at free safety alongside strong safety Tyvon Branch. The Raiders are listing Young as a strong safety on their web site roster.

A veteran of six seasons and 25 starts, Young played for the New Orleans Saints for four seasons, where his defensive backs coach was Raiders coach Dennis Allen.

Woods is a beast…just a flat out baller built for the NFL.

Like Wes Welker, but add the jets to his quickness and sharp routes.

He’s 1st round talent to me.

  • rediaR

I like Woods, he helped fool people into thinking Barkley could go #1 overall last year. Still, he was the 2nd best WR on that USC team.

B@uce–all u do is smack ur gums. Tell us rock head.

U want star for ur NT (in a 4-3!).

So tell us where the elite RDE is coming from.

And u want Houston to move to DT.

    Who’s the LDE?

And u don’t want Barnes to start.

    Who’s ur RT?

Don’t run ur mouth. Tell us ur plan.

    B@Uceman

No…everyone is quite aware that Usama Young is a position filler. A guy who can start and get us through the year but that’s all we can do for the moment with our situation. In time…we will improve that position along with all the others. We’re simply happy that we have somebody over nobody because we can start to look at other positions that need to be filled as well.

They were somewhat multiple last year. All the coaches have said is that they will implement more of a multiple style this season.

MLB’s and ILB’s are VERY similar. B@uce thinks a position label means that’s what u are no matter what.

He thinks if u stand 8 feet away from the center, that’s a huge difference from standing 8 feet away from the guard.

Tell us moron. What SIGNIFICANT SKILLS are different?

One should be more stout, since he’s alone inside.

Roach fits just fine as an ILB.

U act like its the difference between a qb and CB.

Yeah b@uce. U had a personal convo with Houston. I bet he was loving that.

No evidence (outside of ur inside info) that Houston is moving inside.

Bet the convo went like this:

“Hey Lamar, Lamar! Hi! I was wondering how come u don’t play DT since in my 8th grade football education, I think ur best suited there!”

“Oh. Well. We have some pretty good DT’s right now. Take care.”

After signing 3 linebackers, I just don’t see the Raiders drafting an OLB that would likely be a better fit for a 3-4 defense. I still think we’re primariy a 4-3. We haven’t been signing many offensive guys, which only leads me to believe that we’ll be drafting offense or defensive line.

    ^^^^^^^^^^
Still Jordan could be the BPA on some boards on defense.

He can put his hand down in the 4-3 and rush from the two point stance standing up. Versatile.

Raiders don’t have a pass rusher. Might as well get the best one available in Jordan IMO.

They get him to add about 10-15 pounds or muscle when he comes back in May or June.

So crazy thought… What y’all think of trading our first and DMAC to the niners? Niners draft milliner to fix their backfield, and get DMAC who while injury prone, is still a big upgrade over an aging frank gore. The niners keep gore as DMACs backup and use gore to keep DMAC healthy and fresh all season. Their offense gets even more dynamic with DMAC and kaep, and they fill a big defensive need. We get a shiz-ton of the niners 14 draft picks, use one of em to get another RB. One who can make it through a full season. And use the rest on a rebuild and possibly get a good return for DMAC who is heading into a contract year, and A) might get hurt and be worth a whole lot less in a trade, or b) has a breakout year and becomes to expensive of a commodity for a rebuilding team, and we lose him in FA to a team willing to spend more. Thoughts? I know its probably way off the deep end crazy and unrealistic but what if?

Rarely. Usually the DT in a 4-3 lines up on the guard or shifts to the center/guard gap. If he’s on the centers nose, there is a huge gap between him and the DE. Also there is a bunching of the other DT and DE.
