Jennings says he’s joining Raiders

Latest write-thru of ever-changing Raiders moves . . .

The Raiders appeared close to adding Rashad Jennings as a backup to running back Darren McFadden Tuesday as well as the confirming the addition of safety Reggie Smith.

The only announcement made by the club was the signing of cornerback Joselio Hanson, who started five games for the Raiders last season and is the third cornerback added to the roster in the past week.

The NFL Network and CBSsports.com have reported the Raiders are nearing a deal with quarterback Seneca Wallace to join Matt Flynn and Terrelle Pryor.

Jennings has gained 944 yards on 228 carries over three seasons for the Jacksonville Jaguars as the primary backup for Maurice Jones-Drew. He averaged just 2.8 yards per carry (282 yards, 101 carries) in 2012 for a Jacksonville team that went 2-14.

Jennings tweeted Wednesday evening, “It’s official, I’ll be rocking that Black and Silver this yr.’’ and implored Raider Nation “let’s go make it happen.’’

It wasn’t official enough for the Raiders to make an announcement however as they worked on contract details.

Considering McFadden’s propensity for injury _ he’s missed 23 games and has never played a full season _ running back is a position where the club is in need of depth.

Smith tweeted he was returning to California and included an instagram photo of himself working papers with a Raiders insignia. Smith played four seasons with the 49ers before signing with the Carolina Panthers as a free agent, but didn’t make the Panthers roster out of training camp and didn’t play last season.

Hanson, who had five starts for the Raiders last season, joins Tracy Porter and Mike Jenkins in a position group that includes Chimdi Chekwa, Brandian Ross, Phillip Adams and converted running back Taiwan Jones.

Wallace has 17 starts in nine seasons, having played two seasons with the Cleveland Browns after playing seven years with the Seattle Seahawks.

With salary cap space dwindling, the Raiders are at a point where it will be difficult to make many moves for players other than those at or near minimum wage _ Hanson probably qualifies _ unless they restructure McFadden.

The Raiders primary focus is on adding players through the NFL draft, April 25-27.
At present the Raiders have selections in the first (third overall), third and fourth rounds, three in the sixth round and one in the seventh round.

is there a bigger punching bag on this blog than Dennis Allen who was a rookie HC last year and is well respected around the league?? did well as a position coach & coordinator – these guys don’t always make good HC’s (ask Norv Turner) but DA wasn’t a questionable hire

he would have got a shot elsewhere, if it wasn’t here
    …………………………..
I agree although Norv got the Chargers to a AFC Championship game. Norv’s downfall was A.J.Smith.
I don’t think you can really evaluate HC whom coached under Zar Davis

DA is to head coach what Matt Flynn is to the QB position. Stop gap until proven otherwise.

You know Reggie would bail on either if there was a clear upgrade available for the money.

… my biggest criticism is that he should have done this last season instead of wasting a year trying to win with somebody else’s team and fitting square pegs into round holes.

    ************

    @ Marley,

That and trusting a rookie HC to choose his own staff. Even if it sends a message that the HC has authority, for his own good and DA’s good, he needs to be collared a bit. DA doesn’t have the institutional knowledge or perspective to clearly understand the type of men he needs to surround himself with. Reggie seems to be correcting the poor hires by bringing in guys like Sparano who can potentially mop up DA’s mess mid season if it comes to that. Reggie gave DA more than he could chew and it showed. Needs to tighten the reins and choke him up. Needs to be driven from the top. DA’s not ready and I don’t think he will ever be, and Reggie needs to be ready to cut the cord when the time is right.

    =====

    Very well said ^

And #449 DJ Johnny…agreed. And can see Sparano as a plan B if DA messes up.

    Nnamdi 250K guaranteed

Huff less than 2 million a year

Stanford Routt ZERO I think he is out of football

    Rolando McClain 700K

There is about 50 million dollars of Al Davis money for a measly 4 million dollars in the bargin bin!

    Did we over pay?

There is no denying it now!

There running the story right now on NFLN showing Peyton and Welker already working out together.

He’s looking for that “edge” already for this season.

I guess that’s one of the advantages of knowing who “the man” is during the offseason.

It remains to be seem what will he do with all that money since he has to comply with the cap-spending rule, meaning he can’t sit on the cap-space and has to spend what I believe to be at least 89% of the cap room according to the new labor deal.
    ******************
Hey Marley, he has to spend 89% of the cap in CASH. For example, if 89% of the cap is $109M then has to spend $109M in cash, but that doesn’t necessarily mean he will have to use $109M in CAP space. You get a few big signing bonuses, even though they get prorated for cap accounting, they still count in full towards being at the salary floor.

That is what I have been saying since 2007.

In the cap era overpaying is just as bad as not having talented players.

We managed to overpay many bad players.

When was DA ever hypocritical or two-faced? I think you’re talking about Huebris.

    ====

Hypocritical about accountability and starting roster.

Two-faced in the week 17 Pryor episode, as well as him looking for excuses often thru the entire season, always blaming the players (even it was half true or true) you dont do that, you own it. Hue was two-faced. But Hue owned it. He had much the same roster and more obstacles in his HC year (lockout etc etc) and the Raiders werent a complete rabble like DA’s first year last year.

DA also regarding the scheme last year.

DA already starting the year in the same vein with his “cream rises to the top” comment — if you construe that as him pegging Flynn as starter.
    ;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
Even if you are right about Allen that’s not an obstacle to him being a great head coach, check out Harbaugh and the Smith/Kaepernick situation. Harbaugh just flat out lied to Smith. I could name a lot of coaches that were not outwardly fiery… Landry for one…that were successful. Why shouldn’t he blame the players, it’s about time someone did. That’s holding your players accountable.

He fired Cable because Mr. Davis spent more than $150 million on that 2010 team (uncapped year) and felt it should be in the playoffs.

    Guys.

DA is a rookie head coach.
Given our roster it is far too early to judge whether he will be good or not.

When you’re making love to your woman, do you want to see/feel/hear her groaning and squirming about, sweating, scratching, talking dirty, really getting into it grinding her hips…or do you want her to be a dead fish?

As a coach, I want to see DA grind on the field, marshaling, rallying, on top of the field and ahead of the curve. Doesn’t have to be shouting and screaming, but being ACTIVE, moving around, talking to his people on the sideline, stressing, etc.

He’s not ahead of the game enough to be like Belichick. A General up on the mountain, silent and still, watching and pulling strings. DA has to in the meantime (till he masters the game) really SHOW himself to the players, to Reggie, to Mark, to the fans.

It’s true what I say because even Mark publicly admitted he didn’t think or know Allen had any fire about him until he sat on the plane ride home from the Saints game (week 13?) and grilled him.

Allen needs to own it, show it, and grind his hips.

that makes the most sense. Gotta give Allen a chance with a reloaded roster in 2014, not just the 2-years of scrubs because Reggie couldn’t afford anybody else after purging the “out of whack” contracts which lead to dead money #caphell

Some of you guys say Carson Palmer couldn’t win last year because of his garbage teammates aka supporting cast and compare him to Drew Brees & Peyton Manning

DA was in charge of coaching those same garbage players (including Palmer) so he gets the same excuse imo. You clowns can feel free to compare him with Belichick if Carson is Tom Brady
