Wallace reportedly joins QB mix

Veteran quarterback Seneca Wallace will join Matt Flynn and Terrelle Pryor in the Raiders quarterback room, according to both CBSsports.com and NFL.com.

Wallace, 32, is a nine-year veteran with 17 NFL starts. He played the last two seasons for the Cleveland Browns after playing seven with the Seattle Seahawks.

Wallace reportedly is preferred over Tyler Thipen, who also worked out for the Raiders.

The Raiders typically don’t announce deals until the signed contract is at the facility and general manager Reggie McKenzie approves release of the news.

although pryor not gettin run at qb when we were out of it was the biggest gaffe, taiwan not getting run at rb was bad coaching as well

by all accounts he was dynamic in practice, give him a shot during the games, don’t bench him for the season for one fumble

unfortunately Reggie like Taiwan at cb, so we’ve probably seen the last of tj running the rock

    ======================================

The accounts I read said Taiwan was fumbling all the time at practice, including in non-contact drills. Can’t have someone at RB who can’t hang onto the ball.

Probability of drafting a Pro Bowl player:

    top-5 pick: 49%
    top-15 pick: 42%
    picks 16-20: 22%

Not every elite beast athlete for the position of DE/rush OLB will be good in the NFL (see Vernon Gholston).

But it sure helps (Aldon Smith, JPP, Ware, Orakpo, Von Miller).

Out of the top 10 young edge rushers in the NFL, none of them came near the lack of speed showed by Moore, especially in the key 10 yard split. He does not even register in the range. I have not seen Jarvis Jones’ 10 yard split, but his 40 is so bad, it is hard to see him being in the range on the 10 split as well. Productive players in college who simply don’t have the athleticism to carry it over to the pros, are not likely to productive in the pros, especially at a critical athletic position such as edge rusher.

Don’t believe the press release. The Mayor of Toledo sold a prime piece of water-front to the same group in 2009 on the Maumee River opposite dtwn called the Marina District. To this date, despite groundbreaking on the site for hotels, a marina, condos, and retail, not a shovel of dirt has been moved. The Chinese got a sweet deal and are sitting on it.

Yes, you must have game tape that verifies the athletic ability.

However, WR is very different than DE. There are so many savvy intricacies to the position of WR in route running, adjustments, and especially ball skills.

DHB was a truly elite physical athlete, but he lacked in every area of key WR skill set. If he was even mediocre in routes, ball skills and hands, he would probably have easily justified his draft slot. He might have the worst hands of any 1st round WR in the modern era.

    Terrell suggs?

Broke record for sacks in a season. Had a horrible pro day/combine (actually numbers identical to moores. Got dpoy in 2011 and has been a beast since the day he got in the league. Production means more than measurables in any position. I personally dont think the raiders can afford to spen a #3 pick on a potential guy. They need guys who can go in and produce right away
    —————————
Great, and how many more current NFL high production pass rushers aren’t elite athletes? How many of them had comparable production to Jordan and Ansah? How many high production college players do nothing at the position in the NFL? How many elite pass rushers are not first rounders? How many are not top 15 picks? College production (stats not backed up by evaluation of tape) are mostly irrelevant at the college level.

This is the draft you want to trade out of top ten

alot of GMs only truly have 15 guys graded as a 1st round prospect and only the OT graded as TOP 5 pick

Raiders have alot of holes to fill and could get some solid players later 1st round and a few in the 2nd round

  • John David Booty

    Cordova Highs finest.

If our QB’s going into camp are Flynn, Pryor, and Sen, it is going to be a very interesting battle.

None of these guys are world class QBs. But Flynn and Sen are not bums either. Pryor on the other hand is probably the most athletically gifted QB in the NFL today, but is raw in development.

I’m not confident that we have a hands-down #1 QB right now. Ugly as it sounds, any one of these guys could f#ck around and win the starting job. This one isn’t even about talent. It’s going to be about who wants it more, prepares themselves the most, and works the hardest for the job. This is going to be real interesting.

easy with the Cleveland Browns castoff comments.

Seneca Wallace wasn’t with them last year!

he failed to make the 53 man roster over there and was released after the final preseason game last offseason. Was out of the NFL

he lost out to Brandon Weeden, Colt McCoy & Thaddeus Lewis

If you trade out of the top 10 it isn’t worth it. In the Raiders case I wouldn’t want to trade out of the 8th. There’s to much D talent there to take a chance and not get. Yes we have a lot of holes but those holes need to be filled with talent. Better to be patient that trade to far down.

All you have to do is look at the top pass rushers in the NFL and their college production. Maybe even take a look at the top college pass rushers with limited athleticism and see how they turn out in the NFL.

Different positions require different skillsets, and different skillsets are required for certain positions in college than in pros.
