Wallace reportedly joins QB mix

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Wednesday, April 10th, 2013 at 1:29 pm in Oakland Raiders.

Veteran quarterback Seneca Wallace will join Matt Flynn and Terrelle Pryor in the Raiders quarterback room, according to both CBSsports.com and NFL.com.

Wallace, 32, is a nine-year veteran with 17 NFL starts. He played the last two seasons for the Cleveland Browns after playing seven with the Seattle Seahawks.

Wallace reportedly is preferred over Tyler Thipen, who also worked out for the Raiders.

The Raiders typically don’t announce deals until the signed contract is at the facility and general manager Reggie McKenzie approves release of the news.

Only on this blog do people bag on the GM for signing the wrong third-string QB…
    ——

To be fair, only on this blog would people hoist Reggie on their shoulders for signing Seneca Wallace
    ————————–
What are you talking about, beloved? Reggie just replaced Carson Palmer AND DHB with one stroke of his pen. At least at 1/15th of the cost.

You ever see the play where Super Sen takes the snap, airs the ball 60 yards down the field, then makes the diving one hand catch in the end zone?

    Raiders are back, folks.

Trading down twice means you go from a 50-50 Pro Bowl player to a 20% chance at a Pro Bowl player.

WHY on earth would you do that?

To pick up extra 2nd and 3rd round picks that hit at about 12% chance???

    Silly.

  • Football Coach

This play at 1:05 in this tape signifies why Ziggy is a legit top 8 pick at worst, despite his lack of history in the game. Not many guys can physically do this on a football field. It is directly linked to the play.

Different positions require different skillsets, and different skillsets are required for certain positions in college than in pros.

Bottom line, does athleticism out-weigh production. At any level. Not anymore.

Why do you love Oakland so much anyway?

    Cordova Highs finest.

If our QB’s going into camp are Flynn, Pryor, and Sen, it is going to be a very interesting battle.

None of these guys are world class QBs. But Flynn and Sen are not bums either. Pryor on the other hand is probably the most athletically gifted QB in the NFL today, but is raw in development.

I’m not confident that we have a hands-down #1 QB right now. Ugly as it sounds, any one of these guys could f#ck around and win the starting job. This one isn’t even about talent. It’s going to be about who wants it more, prepares themselves the most, and works the hardest for the job. This is going to be real interesting.

    Yes, thats the plan. THEORETICALLY.

But Lefty, in your heart and mind, do you really feel like any of these guys are that much better than one another? I’m hoping all 3 look at this as a chance to be a starter in the NFL, and push the hell out of each other.

Do you think Pryor or Wallace think that Flynn is all that much better than them? Even if he truly is, in both of these grown men minds, do you think THEY believe that? I dont know, man. I think it will be a closer comp than we are imaging right now. But thats a good thing.

Obviously heard people saying Wilson was too short, but I can’t recall anyone bringing up his athleticism as a weakness.

Wilson and Brees are big time outliers at QB. But they have the head, the heart and the hustle, combined with leadership and throwing accuracy to be great QBs. How many QBs match their HHH and throwing ability? Few.

Exactly. There has to be a balance between talent and production. When someone is a football player, it shows. When someone knows how to play, it shows.

See a good athlete, try to make him a player. Thats backwards to me.

Find all the guys that show major production, look at tape of them playing, THEN find the guys out of THAT pool with the height, weight, speed. Thats how it should be done.

I admire and respect all athletes, but still, let me see that you know how to play football.

Reggie will likely not touch Jarvis Jones.

Outstanding pass-rusher, productive in SEC, array of moves…

but out of shape for biggest job interview of his life (Pro Day) and not someone who loves to work hard.

J Hill,I do see it that way.I have said this many times even though most don’t agree-Pryor is not ready to be a starting QB in the NFL.He needs at least 1 more year of grooming.I hate to get this started-AGAIN.We aren’t wasting our time on Pryor, the guy has a lot of talent. We are trying to coach him up into being NFL competent.Look at Reggie’s background.Rodgers sat for years.Flynn sat for years. It seems logical, just as looking at the roster, seeing few to zero players at certain positions and believing those positions will be filled with new players. There is a possibility Pryor wins the job but I’d bet it is very slim.

Finished Southern Miss LB Jamie Collins. Athletic, better as blitzer than pure pass rusher, can hold point of attack vs TE’s. Late 2/early 3

Pryor and Wallace are competitive they may not think in those terms but Pryor has to be wondering about the reason Wallace is here. There’s a Holmgren connection with the signing of Wallace. That doesn’t bod to well for Pryors chances of starting any time this year.
    Flynn got the bigger contract.
Pryor is a work in progress.
Wallace has don’t fair enough in some games as a backup.

    Flynn,,Wallace..Pryor as I see it

players later in the draft are just not as good as the players up top. Common sense. Why risk it that you’ll find the 1 in 20 2nd round picks (even if you get two 2nd rounders) that actually balls?

Why run that risk? What’s the upside?
