Wallace reportedly joins QB mix

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Wednesday, April 10th, 2013 at 1:29 pm in Oakland Raiders.

Veteran quarterback Seneca Wallace will join Matt Flynn and Terrelle Pryor in the Raiders quarterback room, according to both CBSsports.com and NFL.com.

Wallace, 32, is a nine-year veteran with 17 NFL starts. He played the last two seasons for the Cleveland Browns after playing seven with the Seattle Seahawks.

Wallace reportedly is preferred over Tyler Thipen, who also worked out for the Raiders.

The Raiders typically don’t announce deals until the signed contract is at the facility and general manager Reggie McKenzie approves release of the news.

    2012 2nd round picks:

    Brian Quick Jeff Allen
    Derek Wolfe Jerel Worthy
    Mitchell Schwartz Vinny Curry
    Andre Branch Ryan Broyles
    Amini Silatolu Devon Still
    Cordy Glenn Isiah Pead
    Reuben Randle Brock Osweiler

    BLEH.

Notables: Janoris Jenkins (no doubt 1st-round talent), Bobby Wagner, Zach Brown, Lavonte David, and Courtney Upshaw. FOUR linebackers.

Its a crap shoot.. especially this yr at the top. I’d rather spread out my money.. trade back

    ansah…big questions..
    Jordan.. durability?
    The Lts….move to rt?
    Star…heart?
    Floyd. .production? Explosion?
    Geno…small hands..
    Milliner..no hands.. smallish

    ^^^^^^^^^^
    Yup!

    It’s all a crap shoot.

That’s why I hate the term “safe” pick in the draft or “safest”.

I think picking Dion Jordan would help this defense significantly. He can play all 4 downs and can be used all over the place as a pass rusher and he can pursue and tackle. He can also cover.

I’m anxious to see where Jarvis Jones and Barkevious Mingo get picked. Jones far superior on tape, Mingo far superior in shorts.
    —————————–
    This is a good example.

On the field, every day of the week, Jarvis is WAY more skilled and just a better football player than Mingo. Its not even close. Hes a skiled enough football player to play LB or DE in the NFL. Is he athletic enough for that? We’ll see.

On the flip of that, if Jones had Mingos athletic ability, hed be unstoppable.

Mingo is gonna be a mean pass rusher, but hes gonna be a one trick pony in the NFL. And thats fine, if thats what you need or are looking for. But if Mingo had half the football skill of Jarvis Jones, hed be closer to being Jadaveon Clowney.

Jarvis is a top prospect on talent and production.

Mingo is a top prospect on athleticism and potential.

Its always a gamble. Million dollar gambles.

Trade back if you have a guy you are solid on. Right now Reggies board is pratically set.

This might be the only draft u have to trade back to make up some of lost picks.

This is the draft you want a 2nd round pick. Alot of good safties out there

  • alex7

there is ZERO concern with Floyd’s production or explosion.

His explosiveness, quick feet, and dominating SEC talent is what MADE him a top-5 talent in the first place.

    All-Freshman team year 1.
    Dominant starter year 2.
    Stud year 3.

“The 6-3, 303-pound junior… stepped up his play. Though his tackle numbers remained the same (46), Floyd’s big plays multiplied. He posted 13 tackles for loss in 2012, including 6.5 sacks, earning First Team all-SEC honors.

“…Sugar Bowl vs Teddy Bridgewater and Louisville, Floyd was dynamic, sacking the mobile sophomore quarterback twice, leading scouts to wonder what could be in store for 2013 and beyond.”

    Like those short arms huh?

Like that inconsistency and him getting tied up and completely washed out of plays most of the time huh?

We have seen players like Floyd many times before in every draft the draftniks overhype and overrate a quick 3 tech DT and they almost always end up being a high pick and then be a BUST!

Much rather see McK trade down and get more picks than choose Floyd at #3.

  • Marks hair

But I’d guess our chances of using pick 3 is at about 15%.. we need extra picks.

In 9 non-Aaron Rodgers drafts, the Packers went 1st round defense 7 times, and OT twice. Both OTs, however, were in the final few picks of the 1st round.

Two ways of seeing Wallace signing:

Missdick: yes!!! We are heading to the read option and this is proof! Wallace was never used correctly and he will mentor Pryor and help him be string against the inherent racism built into the nfl. The hybrid space age offense is oakland! (Pay no attention to the six million dollar man standing over there going over plays with Greg Olson)

Dr Robert: yes!!! Wallace will mentor Pryor on life in the NFL as a “package” qb/wr! After all we did sign Flynn and DA said Pryor would especially be looked at in “packages” and Wallace’s career has been that if qb/wr. Even if he was out if the league last year.

    U decide raider fans.

Pryor has to be wondering about the reason Wallace is here. There’s a Holmgren connection with the signing of Wallace. That doesn’t bode well for Pryors chances of starting any time this year.

fast on the outside, but weak in the middle – McClain, Huff

Read option is not going to be anything big in the NFL. All of the read option guys will get their butts kicked until they learn to drop back and pass. RG111 had his bell rung last year. You can bet he’s going to think twice about running down that sideline again. Give me a drop back passer that moves around in the pocket over RO QB’s
