GM McKenzie addressing the media today

By Steve Corkran
Tuesday, April 23rd, 2013 at 1:37 pm in Oakland Raiders.

Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie is scheduled to hold a news conference today in Alameda to address the NFL draft, which begins Thursday and runs through Saturday. The Raiders hold the No. 3 pick in the draft, and McKenzie certainly will shed some insight into whether the Raiders intend to keep that pick or trade down in an attempt to acquire more picks.
Soon after the news conference, we will provide some stories on what McKenzie said, what it means and where the Raiders stand moving forward.
We’ll also post the entire transcript from the question-and-answer sessions with Bay Area media. There also will be Tweets from the news conference, so follow @corkonthenfl and @jerrymcd

Five teams that could be on the move from Albert Breer:

    1) Oakland Raiders (No. 3 pick): Devoid of their second-round pick — thanks to the Carson Palmer deal — the Raiders are taking their best shot at dealing down, like many others in the top 10. Unlike some others, though, they offer suitors a clear shot at one of the top three offensive tackles. And don’t get this part mixed up: The tackles will dictate the highest level of the trade market.

    ^^^^^^^^
Breer, telling us stuff we already knew!

He gets paid to do this also!

    Wow!

Honestly, picking at 3 I would only be comfortable taking Star or Fisher. Other than that I take the best trade down offer I can get.
    **************************

I’m not really big on taking a RT that high but he better than taking lil man Floyd or weak ass Ansah

Star we agree is the man

  • DKnight007

Please…please KC be stupid enough to take alligator armed DT Floyd #1 overall….PLEASE!

Any ody else a lil weary of dion jordan? I mean he looks good and conbine was cool. Decent numbers in college. A lot of ppl comparing him to aldon smith. When i see jordan i see a guy who could end up being like aldon smith, but at 6′6″ 239 with a bad shoulder, not being able to show if he is ben strong, could just the same be aaron maybin. It doesnt help me, actually it bothers me even more, how my cousin who goes to oregon isnt sure about jordan in the top 5.

    ^^^^^^^^^
Oregon folks that I know, say Jordan is the real deal.

He just needs to get stronger and bulk up a bit.

Come on man Jordan is #3 in tackles for Loss! Wait that is #3 on the Oregon ducks. Talk about a hyped up media creation of the combine. Making a good player out to be the next Jason Taylor. Not a top 10 pick in my mind let alone #3. Why not Werner, Mingo or even Ansah before him.

ALAMEDA, Calif. — For seven straight years starting in 2004, the Oakland Raiders had a top 10 pick in the NFL draft only to end up disappointed in the outcome.

Six botched selections and one misguided trade later, the results from those years add up to no playoff berths, no winning records, no Pro Bowl invitations and only oft-injured Darren McFadden left on the roster.

There were perceived safe picks like Robert Gallery in 2004 that never developed. There were reaches like Darrius Heyward-Bey in 2009 who failed to prove the critics wrong. Then there was JaMarcus Russell, perhaps the biggest draft bust ever with seven wins as a starter for his more than $39 million in salary.

The simplest explanation for a decade during which the Raiders lost the second-most games in the NFL is that late owner Al Davis lost his touch when it came to the draft.

With so many holes, the philosophy for McKenzie and coach Dennis Allen will be finding the best player and avoiding the busts and disappointments that have done the Raiders in so often of late.

From taking Gallery over Larry Fitzgerald in 2004 to the decision to draft Russell over Calvin Johnson in 2007 to the injuries that have limited 2008 first-rounder McFadden throughout his career to the ill-fated decision to value Heyward-Bey’s speed so much to take him ahead of Michael Crabtree and Jeremy Maclin in 2009 to the disappointment of Rolando McClain in 2010, high picks have hurt more than helped the Raiders.

Fisher can’t only be looked at as “taking a RT with the #3″. He is also a “step right in at the blind side with no drop in production” if the Hulk goes down. That’s big too. When a team’s starting LT goes down, it hurts! If we have Fisher available to shift over, it wont hurt us. Injuries happen. That type of stuff has to be considered. And in the mean time, it never hurt anybody to have two badass OT’s. Having said that, Star would still be my #1 choice.

    LOL!

    They taking Joekel or Fisher.

If Joekel or Fisher falls to 3. Reggie will have a deal to trade down.

Even if Johnson is there at 3, I think Reggies phone will still be ringing to trade.

I don’t think Reggie will be scared or too greedy to do so either like the old man Al was of trading down in the 1st round.

Lamarr Houston – Shariff Floyd comparison (combine numbers for physical traits):

    Houston 6-3 305, 33 inch arms
    Floyd 6-3 297, 31.75 inch arms
(Houston slightly larger man, much longer arms)

Houston 4.84 forty, 1.68 ten yard split
Floyd 4.92 forty, 1.68 ten yard split
(Houston faster in 40 and tie in key 10 yard split)

Houston 114 inch broad jump, 33.5 vert
Floyd 106 inch broad jump, 30 vert
(Houston much better explosion in legs)

    Houston 4.71 short shuttle, 7.61 3-cone drill
    Floyd 4.75 short shuttle, 7.40 3-cone drill
(Floyd gets a slight nod in agility drills)

    Houston 30 reps at 225
    Floyd did not bench

Houston final college year stats: 60 tackles, 17.0 TFLs, 7.0 sacks, 4 batted balls
Floyd final college year stats: 46 tackles, 13.0 TFLs, 3.0 sacks, 0 batted balls, 1 forced fumble

Both played at top BCS schools/comp.

Now, tell me why Houston cannot be a pro 3 technique and Floyd can? And tell me why Floyd is an elite #3 pick when Houston was bigger, faster, more explosive and had more college production and went #44?

Floyd is a good kid who should have a solid career. But he is an 8-15 pick in the draft. #3 big reach.

Houston has been playing DE for the Raiders because the most well paid players on the team (Seymour and Kelly) were DTs and they also had a solid 3 tech in Desmond Bryant.

Now all three of those DTs are gone, and Houston can slide to his more natural 3 technique position. Why have him continue to be a decent LDE when he can be a disruptive penetrating interior presence? And especially why keep him as an OK LDE and draft a slightly lesser version of him at pick 3 to be the penetrating interior player?

    Makes little sense.

Jerry McDonald @JerrymcdFor what it’s worth, any time Raiders look for volunteers for community work, Terrelle Pryor’s hand is the first one that goes up.

    Good to know….

Ever notice b@uce thinks all the pros are “idiots” and then he laughs real loud? Isn’t that the clearest sign of the moron? He stopped playing 8th grade but he knows more than mayock and cork and pretty much everyone. And laughs and laughs about how “smart” he is.

    Houston plays DE. Always has.

Floyd is and always has been rated as a much better player.

Beech–I posted a description of my defense yesterday. Not a peep from the retards. Why? They probably don’t understand it. And it’s easier to laugh like a hyena while pretending u know stuff. And ridicule people with actual knowledge.

    Morons be morons.

    Irish Boozer…

I’ve had many a “loser” shot after the games, of late..

Worried that I may have to start downing them before kick-off this season. Hence, the idea of buying in bulk…
